view network connections
Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected.

view Wi-Fi connections
Allows the app to view information about Wi-Fi networking, such as whether Wi-Fi is enabled and name of connected Wi-Fi devices.

change network connectivity
Allows the app to change the state of network connectivity.

allow Wi-Fi Multicast reception

Listen, we buy your products and that should be that. Updates to 'how we collect your personal data' shouldn't even be a thing in the first place. All these promises about 'securing your data, not selling your data' etc mean nothing to the user. You're still holding it and using it for YOUR gains. Don't treat us like idiots, we've had enough of companies harvesting our personal data for monetary gain and manipulation. This has to stop somewhere, but so long as there's money in it, it won't.

  2. Ralph M-avatar

I use this app almost daily! One major flaw with photo backup feature; I cannot select DCIM/Camera directory as the source. Only top level DCIM is allowed. This may have worked fine for older versions of Android but not now. Unfortunately there are screenshots, facebook, thumbnails directories inside of /DCIM folder. This would cause a lot of junk to be backed up to my NAS. Please add option to select /CAMERA Sub folder inside of DCIM. I would like to replace my DROPBOX photo backup with this, but can't because of this issue. Other then that great app!! Thank you

  3. Rushyang Darji-avatar

I don't give 5 stars easily. Have been using this app since couple of months now. Does efficiently what it is for. Only annoying thing is it keeps asking for directories one of one whether to enable sync, sometimes same directory as well and it won't take yes/no selection input from status bar notification.

  4. Eskimo Burns-avatar

Should have the option for direct connect and quick connect. When I'm connected to my home internet it would be way faster to direct connect and typing in a new address everytime sucks. Preferably it would save both and give you the option of the style of connection on login. This way you could also have multiple drives saved to connect to.

  5. Elad TeymaN-avatar

i really LOVE the synology NAS and all its features, but I'm also very disappointed that i need to use 3 different apps just to manage files btween my devices. ds drive - to browse most files and folders. ds file - to browse folders that are not team folders. ds cloud - to sync folders from my device to the nas. It would be ideal if users could use ONLY the drive app. or at least add an option to schedual automatic uploads of folders on the android device in the ds file app. ✌🏼

  6. Boudewijn-avatar

Has annoying bug: when you try to scroll down during a search, the results list always jumps back to the top. It is not very difficult for the developers to fix this, but it has been like this for years... Please make filtering and selecting work together. Now you cannot select files in a filtered list nor filter files in select mode.

  7. Laila Wahedi-avatar

Never works. I can't log in on my VPN. When I do manage to log in photos won't upload. It's completely unusable. I might as well not have a backup at all. I wish there was an alternative. Never buying synology again. They don't actually support their products. This app has been terrible for years and I've had it.

  8. Tony W-avatar

Generally works but I opened a ticket a long time ago re: app hanging and crashing when deleting over 1k number of files (a few years ago). Surprised no one fixed this. Easy to reproduce.

  9. Andrew Penfold-avatar

It works fine for the primary purpose of transferring files between NAS and Android device. Photo backup works great BUT need to turn off Battery Optimization for DSFile in Android app settings. Maybe this could be fixed in DSFile by using wake timers or something. EDIT: just found the "move file" button!

  10. Duncan Cranendonk-avatar

    Duncan Cranendonk

Slow app despite being on my own wifi (100mbit), the photo upload crashes regularly and can't manually be restarted. Only uploads photos when you physically have the app open, it doesn't seem to run in the background.

  11. Eric Tan-avatar

For some reason, videos selected to be played on the phone's video player stopped working. Used to work before.

  12. Andrew Wallwork-avatar

    Andrew Wallwork

Despite entering all correct info, this app refused to allow access. The info works on the desktop but not the mobile app. Rubbish and now uninstalled. Not worth the bother.

  13. Dez Rae-avatar

Works in the fact with this app I can access files on the NAS remotely using Internet. Yay. However, it needs better integration thru the Android OS. Eg : if I open Google Docs on my phone I can not tell it to open any doc's directly from the NAS. I need to down load them to the phone. Edit it, then upload again. Frustrating. Should be able to do the same in MS word , etc.. or anything else that lets me choose a source file to load something from.fix that up and we are on a winner ;-)

  14. Oskari Petas-avatar

Slow and sometimes doesn't work. Doesn't show photos and downloads fail without any proper reason.

  15. J D-avatar

Not sure why people give this such poor ratings. I just set up my DS218+, and DS file works great. The app is very quick to load the folder structure and all list all files. And I have about 1.5TB of mixed data (pictures, office documents, music, movies) for work and personal use that I've accumulated over about 10 years.

  16. Aaron-avatar

Great NAS access app! I've been using this app for a few years now and never given me a problem. Fast access to ALL my NAS files where ever I am.

  17. Locksley Chang-avatar

Fails when uploading files via mobile network. Works fine when on WiFi. Have the same version app on my Android 6 device (single SIM), no issues. Bought a new Android 9 phone and started experiencing these issues. If it helps, I'm using two SIM cards. I tried disabling SIM2 but problem persists. Please fix! Update: Synology went above and beyond and fixed the problem for me after I raised a ticket. Their actions proved they really care about their customers. Thumbs up!!

  18. Кирилл Кушпель-avatar

    Кирилл Кушпель

Overall a good app, but a couple of last updates broke file sharing. When i click "copy share link", i don't get canonical URL, just the file sharing path, e.g. /sharing/xyz

  19. Alberto Egami-avatar

The photo backup feature does not run automatically for some reason, I have to manually open the app to start the backup process...

  20. Simon da Costa-avatar

Great when it works. Can no longer download media to my phone. Can still access nas by web browser and download on a PC just no longer works on android.

  21. Shawn Poirier-avatar

Works great most of the time. On my android version 9 phone when I download a file, there should be somewhere that you can see you file is currently being downloaded from Synology to my phone and when it has completed. Otherwise, work well.

  22. Nash Onez-avatar

Brought my Synology 218+ to replace my WDmycloud. I cant even use this app or any DS app to remotely connect .i can only connect locally on wifi. I've tried everything. Port forwarding you name it. Smh

  23. Patrick Fadden-avatar

Great app that makes files access and photo back up from your phone a breeze. Have it set up on both mine and my wife's phones to keep all the pictures of the kiddo safe.

  24. Laurens Speenhoff-avatar

    Laurens Speenhoff

Great application for checking and editing folder structures. But I would like to see an advanced file and folder renaming methods. Ie. Changing file names, in a batch. Like the renaming feature from MacOSX. :)

  25. Alexey Makhrov-avatar

Photo backup doesn't work as I expected it to. The initial backup process finished and reports the 'backup complete' status. However, it didn't back up a number of more recent photos (~300 files). I found no way to tell the app to continue syncing. And when I take a new picture, it doesn't sync up. I cleared the app cache and restarted it. Now it started to sync up the whole folder from scratch - creating duplicates in the NAS shared folder.

  26. Anton Korotkov-avatar

Fairly, unstable client. Not reliable, file transmission may be failed and retry does not work.

  27. Alex Unnervik-avatar

I like the app but I removed one star for having to log in to view the offline downloads (how is that logical? If I need it offline it's because I can't login and now if I can't login I can't view my downloads). And one star for not integrating the downloads in the main folder structure with simply files available offline being marked as such. Would be much more logical to me. Otherwise, works well.

  28. andrew mcgregor-avatar

    andrew mcgregor

Takes too long to try and authenticate when offline.

  29. Bill G-avatar

I did used to like this app, however since the latest update it no longer remembers where you were in the file tree. So if you are in a directory looking for something, and click into a sub folder, if you go back to the previous directory, it places you in a different location than where you clicked in from, making manual searches nearly impossible in a large directory structure.

  30. Ricky Sidhu-avatar

I would give this app 5 stars if it had the option to enable a full Android backup rather than just photos.

  31. Matt Fitt-avatar

I'd like this app a lot more if it didn't have these ridiculous, frustrating failures of logging in. Even worse, is the part where the automatic photo backup rarely works, at all, and even when it sort of works, it's *never* automatic (have to open app & log in). Also, the backup function inexplicably requires you to log in, even though you're already logged in, but mostly it just returns an Error/Connection Failed status on the backup, and no amount of resetting or restarting makes a difference.

  32. Elliot Jenner-avatar

Keeps cutting out randomly, forcing me to restart operations, videos, etc. It just can't seem to hold a stable connection for more than about 20 min.

  33. Smiling Advocate-avatar

    Smiling Advocate

It's a really good app, fundamental part of having a NAS. Uploading pictures from my phone is my biggest interest. The only flaw with this app is that it will not connect to my NAS on WiFi.. Whether its my personal WiFi same network the nas is on, or someone else's WiFi.. It just doesn't work, so the photos will only upload using me 4G data.

  34. Dan Markoff-avatar

Works great when opened in the foreground, but unfortunately it does not run in the background. I would give it 5 stars if this was fixed.

  35. Chuong Le Pham-avatar

Uninstall and forget all DS apps and others similar offerings from Synology since they neither work 100% of the time against Synology's own NAS hardware. Just use a powerful file explorer like Root Explorer, etc, that offers connection via SAMBA. Sure, you may not be able to auto sync content with file explorers (you can do it manually though). You do, however, get everything else working with your Synology NAS like in-place editting, etc, and it works 100% of the time with a file explorer.

  36. Chris NPB-avatar

Doesn't work. Doesn't connect. I tried to contact customer support, but they take days to rrspond (email only). When they did finally respond, their instructions didn't match options for settings on my DS1. I submitted request for clarification and am still waiting for a response. Being able to access my files is the main reason I bought this rather expensive system. The app is useless.

  37. T B-avatar

works great for updating my phone photos. Sometimes goes a couple days without uploading any until I open the app. the most annoying thing is I selected upload DCIM folder only and it still uploads photos from other folders on my device like screenshots, downloads, and custom folders I have for memes even though they are not checked. And if you upload a folder containing subfolders it just dumps all the images into one folder on my NAS which is a sorting nightmare

  38. Peter Olds-avatar

It's not pretty but it's also not glitchy. Gets the job done.

  39. Bobby S-avatar

Used to work great, now it's completely broken. just constantly says connected and then reconnecting. Photo backup doesn't work at all becuase of this. Also when photo backup worked it couldn't find some of the folders on my phone where my older photos were stored. so some are backed up and some are not. Even manually trying add the folders doesnt work. NAS is great, but god you guys really suck at software. Every app is a dumpster fire.

  40. Rob Andrews-avatar

the latest update has an annoying problem in that when you are browsing files from your phone and you press the back button it goes back to the first file on the synology, where as before it went back to where you were on the Synology, not good if you have a lot of files stored on the ds, a lot of scrolling down to find it again, not sure why the developer would make it harder to browse and use files

  41. Noel Caffrey-avatar

I expected better from Synology. Does no one test programs anymore? Login works. Viewing thumbnails sometimes works. Viewing jpegs sometimes works. A poor effort.

  42. Axel Höffer-avatar

has some useful features but is draining battery because it is constantly checking for the DS to sync content even when the DS is turned off. There is no possibility to disable auto syncing and just do a sync manually when needed. please add this feature in a future release. I love the photo backup function but I only need to backup my data once in a while when the DS is turned on and I am in my home wifi. The constant search for the DS is draining the battery quite a lot

  43. David Mayer-avatar

I would love the app if only: it were able to resume failed downloads instead of failing miserably until I delete the partially downloaded files manually; it had a dark mode.

  44. N Albertsson-avatar

An invaluable app if you have a Synology NAS on your local network... I use it daily (often many times a day) to shift media files around the NAS, rename them, organise files, folders etc etc. This app is so good, that when my Synology NAS needs file maintenance etc, I reach for my Android phone or tablet to use this app, rather than use my Desktop or Laptop applications... and that is quite an achievement by the Synology devs.

  45. A Google user-avatar

Looks like your Software can not synchronize Pictures with Phoito Backup from a SD Card on a Nokia 7 plus running the latest Android 9 with feb 2019 patch. Can sync if i tell my camera App to write pictures on internal memory but can not if it be written on the SC card. Any help how to get rid of this annoying problem would be highly appreciated! thx

  46. .-avatar

Edit: It works as designed by the developer 👌🏽👌🏽 & thanks for considering to add the feature 'skip existing files' as an option for the copy process 🤝🏼🤝🏼 ___________ A long awaited missing feature is if you copy files from local to remote and files exist, then the option 'skip existing files' should be added. The result is without this feature, you have to delete all the *-1* files manually...

  47. Stephen Angell-avatar

This app used to work great but after recent update, it can barely do the basics. Sign on failures constantly, sign ons very slow when working, transferring file total failures, file uploads slower than normal when working, streaming files is slower, interface changes are less intuitive, etc. I have had to resort to restarting my NAS multiple times due to sign on failures locking up everything. Come on synolgy, do some quality checking.

  48. Florian Goldschmied-avatar

Why is it not possible to backup received telegram images?

  49. Robert Eisenbrandt-avatar

    Robert Eisenbrandt

I can't log in. I've spent nearly an hour trying to get this app to log into my NAS. It won't do it.

  50. Rex Rose-avatar

Doesn't work, like anything Synology. Their apps are garbage. Save up and buy an NAS that isn't so finicky and with less impossible documentation. I have mine working with Windows and VLC, but forget about transferring files on Android or Mac. I had it all working with ES File but suddenly no. Same thing happens in Windows sometimes. This POS NAS just arbitrarily decides to become invisible. But you can run Synology assistant and it finds it again. No help for Android or Mac.

  51. stanley g-avatar

Constantly reconnecting and not backing up. Taken two days to back up 600 photos with 210 more to go. Just stops constantly. Only bought the nas for media backup, if this is as good as it gets then I've wasted my money. It amazes me how appaling tech and apps can be, this is 2019, all this should be basic but it isn't even useable.

  52. Michael George-avatar

Having problems logging in, used to log me in straight away, now it times out most of the time

  53. Philipp Stampfli-avatar

    Philipp Stampfli

A lot of problems with signing in or loading pictures. It doesn't matter which way I connect, external hostname, quickconnect or internal IP, often it doesn't work. At the same moment, connection in the browser works without any problems.

  54. Stefan Balan-avatar

Zero usability related to download tasks... You start a download and if you so much as try to move to a window or use another app... your download disappears and restarts... unusable... Really, guys, can we get download resume? so I don't have to restart from 0 every time a mosquito flies by?

  55. Ivan Ivanov-avatar

Does the job of backing up media files. You can select destination folder and types of files to backup. Seems to work fine.

  56. David Hepworth-avatar

Worse than useless. IF it decides to connect it fails to open any file. Also slower than a snail.

  57. Jan Bukartyk-avatar

Great for accessing files on Synology NAS as well as for automatic photo/video uploads (supports multiple files)

  58. A Google user-avatar

Keeps crashing when I try and upload files. OnePlus 6, Pie. * latest update seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks, but why have you added the " run at startup" permission? I dont need this running 24/7.

  59. Jeff Schmidt-avatar

Synology is so confusing, set backup but can't see what was backed up. Sd card on phone not showing up. That's really dumb. Synology makes great hardware but horrible software. DS file and ds photo appear to be same app, more confusing

  60. Danny MA-avatar

Can't choose specific SUBfolders to backup e.g. /dcim/camera, /download/documents etc. Can't send feedback without creating an account.

  61. A Google user-avatar

4 new permissions (run at startup, request install packages, phone status &id, receive data from internet) required for the update, no justification given and no new features in changelog that might use them either. So what are they for? I hate permission creep. I hate the arrogance of a dev who thinks, "they can suck up the permissions, no need to justify or explain".

  62. Art Scheel-avatar

If you play a video and pause/sleep your android device before the video finishes playing, it will then crash almost 100% of the time if you try to go back to ANY video until you reboot your device. Worthless until that's fixed.

  63. Alvin Exvanny-avatar

very useful app to access your synology nas from anywhere. But since the last update, whenever I go back to previous screen it will go up top, it's very annoying, please fix it like before, will give 5 stars.

  64. Jon Smith-avatar

It USED to work flawlessly. No more. All I see now is the spinning wheel while waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting to log in. So much for a useful tool. 👎

  65. Luke S-avatar

For what this app is designed to do, it does it well. Loses a 🌟 as I feel it would be handy to be able to select all files in a folder to upload, instead you have to select one by one which can be tedious.

  66. Mike Nguyen-avatar

The app was working fine since I installed it 1.5 years ago. Suddenly, the latest update doesn't allow me to connect using quickconnect or DDNS. It does allow me to connect via LAN. Please fix.

  67. Alex Palacios-avatar

The app is OK, but it feels unifished/unpolished. For example, why can't you resume a file transfer that got interrupted? It's a nightmare to get large files over unreliable networks

  68. Francis Kynaston-Pearson-avatar

    Francis Kynaston-Pearson

DS file, audio, video and picture all worked fine at one stage and now fail to get anywhere despite easy access to the synology via the web (including on my phone). What exactly is the point of this app if it fails to access files simply?

  69. Erik-Jan Koning-avatar

    Erik-Jan Koning

Am using this on a Chromebook. Connection should integrate in the native ChromeOS Files app. It shows up nicely, shows all my shares but when I open a share it does not show any file, "no files here" is shown.

  70. Michael Arzillo-avatar

    Michael Arzillo

Excessive new permissions? Why does this app now need to run at startup and read phone status and call information? Release notes just say this is a bug fix release. Please explain.

  71. Matt Breed-avatar

Frustrating. App does not connect to nas. Like all synology things you have to be prepared to get frustrated and read help forums, or knowledge bases. They are not fans of making anything user friendly. Really disappointed to have bought a synology product.

  72. Will Berry-avatar

Does the job. Could be designed better for those who access multiple NAS' A dashboard with an icon for each of your NAS boxes would be much better than whats currently offered. That or support "parallel apps" allowing us to have multiple instances of the app available

  73. A Google user-avatar

I use it to back up my photos. Sometimes the backup is buggy, you need to delete the cache and start again. Overall very happy with Synology.

  74. Craig Lalumiere-avatar

After the last update, the auto photo backup does not work with out logging into the app and then going to the photo backup settings. Please fix that was a great feature.

  75. Silas de Rooy-avatar

It was working fine for my photo backup. But sinds a while i can't login because of a self signed ssl problem. Can not back up my images anymore.

  76. Robert Cheng-avatar

Overall it works with some delay here and there. Wish it would allow for gif support or at least let us choose which app to open files with. Really hampers the utility of this app!

  77. Richard Spenceley-avatar

Was great, but now whenever I download something to my phone, my phone grinds to a halt and is unusable (System UI crashes etc). Pixel 2 XL, Android 9

  79. Giovanni Chierico-avatar

    Giovanni Chierico

Excellent, it can make an automatic backup of the pictures and videos taken with the phone.

  80. Smit Thakkar-avatar

I was sceptical after reading low star reviews. Synology works like charm for me. Though it requires some efforts from user side. If you are dummy, you can't get benefit from this. If you're ready to google some stuff, trust me this is great

  81. Cheslyn Dcruz-avatar

After a recent update I can no longer move files to the NAS. once you select a file from your local phone and say Move to .. it goes upto the root folder but you cannot get onto NAS to paste it

  82. Dan Lowe-avatar

Failed to connect with my admin credentials. I installed Asus file manager and it auto found the synology nas on my network and connected with my credentials perfectly. DS File failed miserably.

  83. Rod César-avatar

Worked well until the latest update, it won't connect. Rather useless app now, hope it's fixed soon.

  84. Benoit de Chezelles-avatar

after using search function, the results keeps on refreshing until the app hangs and close then you need to run and log in again. just what the effin F dude!

  86. Ryan-avatar

Works well enough but could use some improvements like a dark mode, etc. Would also be nice if Synology Drive's functionality were merged with DS File's.

  87. carrie ko-avatar

Both DS Files and DS Photos have different problems logging in. Sometimes work, but mostly not. This bug should be fixed first😡

  88. Nano Mandrake-avatar

Very slow connection. Even though the files load fast through the web interface, the app is very slow in loading anything

  89. Bob Day-avatar

Loved the app in iOS but my android version crashes after EVERY single search. INCREDIBLY annoying! Could be a great app but PLEASE fix the android version

  90. Rinus Leeuw-avatar

Getting error "unable to connect to server" although I gave it all the rights. So useless and uninstalling.

Fingerprint login lost in 4.11.2 on Nokia 5 with Android 9. Worked perfectly before update. UPDATE: Works in 4.11.4-350. Thanks.

  93. Graham Hull-avatar

worked before update. The app gets stuck on uploading a file. Nothing else happens.

  94. A Google user-avatar

works fine unless you have a sd card. choosing all folders doesn't pick up folders on the sd card. all folders should be all folders on all storage devices.

  95. Hanea Ismail-avatar

So far so good. worked well with my Synology ds218j. backed up my entire phone photos. able to access my NAS folders remotely.

Works great compared to previous versions. Now I no longer need a computer handy or access it on a cumbersome mobile web browser.

  97. J J-avatar

It won't automatically back up photos unless I actually open the app so it's running

  98. Dmitry K-avatar

Icons of DS get and DS file have different sizes. DS file icon has correct size on my Nexus 6P with stock Android 8.1. While DS get icon does not fit.

  99. Shah A-avatar

Works well enough for me. Better than the iOS version but that probably more to do with the file system than anything else.

  100. Eric Goh-avatar

It is not working well in Huawei P30 Pro. It keep prompt for password which alway fail.
