When it opens and it has found my stereo without any trouble, then it WORKS!! Yes, actually works. I can turn volume up! Turn volume down! Choose song from music server! Play song from music server! Absolutely amazing!! ++++++++++++++ The interface is a bit strange, clunky as if designed by some backward convict who never had any education nor saw the light of day for so many decades he doesn't remember how to think with the slightest coherence! or is he blind? Sort this out, it is abominable!!

  2. Tony Farrell-avatar

    Tony Farrell

Really happy with my Denon Ceol N9, a real pity that this app, which should have enhanced the user experience, is so frustrating to use! Difficult to work out what the various controls do. Doesn't play any albums on my music server past the 2nd track. After some time experimenting I worked out that adding tracks to a playlist does then play them all. However, creating and using playlists is so complicated, why can't it just have normal play, pause/stop controls?

  3. Adrian Hay-avatar

    Adrian Hay

Was working great until the recent update and now I can't run the app, it just shows an error when trying to open. Really frustrating as I can't find the original remote for the HiFi so have to use the buttons on top of it. Not great when needing to adjust the volume while watching a movie.

  4. Jason March-avatar

    Jason March

Works most of the time. Some of the internet radio stations no longer connect. It would be good to be able to find out what streaming site the unit connects to so it can be changed if required. Considering the age of the unit the fact the app is still being upgraded is a strong postive

  5. Peter Kozlowski-avatar

    Peter Kozlowski

Shame on you Denon - App crashes constantly an is unresponsive. That company is 20 years behind in regard to software.

  6. Skander Frikha-avatar

Instead of fixing bugs, this last update turned up to be THE bug, it ruined it. I'm not anymore able to see my CEOL system! While other brands are constantly developing their apps in matters of UX and visual aspect, the Denon Hi-Fi Remote got frozen in time and the experience is getting worse. Fix this please.

  7. Rocco van Zyl-avatar

    Rocco van Zyl

Very poor magic app. Can't do what most car Bluetooth apps do. can only control volume. Can't skip forward or back and does not display track info. Very disappointed with CEOL too. Sound is fine, but radio often cuts out as if it is a DAB but it is FM. Also Bluetooth is very erratic, sometimes hard to get it to connect and other times connects when I don't want it to such as when I am listening to radio. Won't but Denon again.

Good when it works, but it gets stuck way too often. My main use case is to play content from my local DLNA server.

Disgraceful!! Ive owned Onkyo AVR's all my life and I so wish I didn't get this X440h model, nothing works as it should it's not worth the money I Paid for it and the fact they can't get a app to work is nothing short of a joke! I even put the IP address in manually and it tells me that's wrong!! It's a pile of steaming you know what! Easter weekend I will be selling my Denon and going back to Onkyo as this is nothing but issues!

  10. John Geddes-avatar

    John Geddes

Can't change internet radio station - the menu design shows that this was intended but it looks like they gave up - any attempt to find a station results in an invitation to visit a website to find out more - and that takes you to a third party service apparently unfunded by Denon as it asks for donations. Shoddy stuff: I had clearly overestimated the capability of Denon to deliver a fully working product and their integrity in fixing problems once a product is in use.

  11. Agnius Meškauskas-avatar

    Agnius Meškauskas

So surprised! Perhaps worst off apps I used. Bought new Denon network player and after two evenings of bad tries to use Denon Hi-fi Remote, I downloaded BubbleUPnP and Hi Fi cast. Right now no problems to listen good music. I hope one day Denon will fix the problems.

Keeps on crashing before it opens... It was working fine before, what happened? I tried uninstall and reinstall but it doesn t change anything. Please fix it, it is the only app that s working with my Ceol N9. Thanks!

This app is slow, and it is very un-intuitive. It is difficult to know how to do a certain function. It does un-expected things. Airplay does not work anymore.

I have a network media server, all my TVs, PCs, phones and tablets don't have any issues plaing media content. But this app and CEOL N9 are a constant pain. Adding songs from the server to the queue works for maybe 2-3 songs and then the connection is lost. I have to manually start playing songs again and I'm lucky if it works for another song or 2. Firmware updated on regular basis but no improvement. I just don't get why Denon can't fix this for such a long time. Not a happy camper.

  32. Jonathan Lomax-avatar

    Jonathan Lomax

Almost never recognises my player (Ceol N9) and when it does it can be relied upon to crash within a few minutes. Given its importance to things such as streaming from NAS and Internet radio it's making me consider returning the whole system. UPDATE: have now returned the system because of the poor app.

  33. James Steeds-avatar

    James Steeds

When playing music from phone via DLNA, it disconnects from ceol n9 after a few mins of the phone being not touched. The Music app included with Android can play music via DLNA with no problems. There is no benefit to using the Denon app. It's a big disappointment.

Nov 2017... Hit "install" in Playstore on Samsung S6 and went back to dinner. Without hitting a button it had found my Ceol N9 and was showing current input. And I had full control. Doesn't get much better for first impressions and I may have to revise this later, but so far so good. .....Jan 2019..... One year on and app has disappointed me continuously. Connection to N9 is random at best and disconnects soon after. Never had a firmware update, it just hangs everyone I try that.

  39. Terry Gostelow-avatar

This app has potential, but is full of reliability and usability issues. It crashes a lot, is slow and unresponsive at times, and is just not that intuitive. Please improve it Denon!

  40. A Google user-avatar

Just installed a RCD-N9. It updated its firmware and then I installed this app. In fairness it is not the prettiest interface I have ever seen but it sees all my Samsung devices, my WD NAS drive, and I can access Internet radio channels fine. Spotify is still a mess because it wants a Premium subscription yet I managed to get it to work quite happily from the app. So far, so good!

  41. David Sloan-avatar

Terrific in principle but when you close the app on phone, streaming music stops on the hifi. Also very clunky. Has potential if they iron out the bugs.

App is permanently crashing. Not useable. The slogan "Flawless meets wireless" seems almost ironic Update: after update this seems to work well. Update 2: and not working anymore

  43. A Google user-avatar

Denon's tag for this app is "Flawless meets Wireless". This app isn't flawless - it's sh!te and the Denon Ceol N9 I'm trying to control it with is b0ll0cks as well!

  44. Tomasz Wasilczyk-avatar

Good app but buggy prefer the look and icons of other denon remote application some stations don't work eg bbc 5 live extra although these stations have no problem playing on tunein radio app ! Quite a few complaints about this app but denon don't appear to care. You can report crashes etc but no answer from denon

  48. Julian Cresswell-avatar

    Julian Cresswell

I have no explanation why this app is not excellent. I have the hardware and that's great, this however is wobbly and unstable, 20 crashes in 10 days; it lags so you accidentally double tap and that throws it into a flat spin; also it maybe intuitive but only to someone who plays 4 dimensional chess whilst tightrope walking . Shame it shouldn't be this hard surely. App updated to day so I'm crossing my fingers. It'd be useful when it does work which is about 50:50. No alternative :-( The update did nothing. I now use the app that came with the phone, different sound output which I cannot understand as the app is not a conduit. But at least it works more effectively & regularly than the one I effectively bought with the hardware. Very disappointed in a good brand like Denon.

  49. Yannis Constantine-avatar

Internet radio commands in particular are very poor. Once a station/song is selected the menu disappears and you are stuck with the selected song. Only way to go back go the menu is to close the application and re-start.

After recemt updates (app or CEOL firmware) It no longer Connects. My CEOL is playing music from internet radio. The web app does not discover the device. If I add the device IP it tells me that the device is unsupported. Update... I reset the unit and now it connects.

Generally works ok but don't seem to be able to adjust tone (bass/treble) from the app. Generally use the physical remote to adjust these kinds of settings then control music direct from Spotify.

Utter rubbish - now it says my device is not supported, but curiously it was, and this app is recommended for my device CEOL RCD-N9! From a manufacturer like Denon this is truly abysmal. It isn't in any way intuitive. Playlists are extraordinarily unpredictable and rarely if ever play to the end. As a major interface with the amplifier it defies belief that Denon are prepared to even put their name to it. It's slow; it hangs; it ignores commands - it's absolutely awful. I read many of the reviews and thought that it really could not be as bad as described - sadly it really is. The amplifier is excellent, but this app is a joke and helps towards spoiling the whole experience. A truly pathetic undertaking in an era when people expect better. By the time most people install this app they will already have bought the equipment and I guess that is all Denon care about. You can bet your sweet bippy they would have fixed it if sales depended on it! For music playback try BubbleUPNP Licensed version. It costs very little and IT WORKS!

Constant freezing and crashing renders this little piece of software a total misery to use. "Improved stability", "bug fixes"? Yeah right. How a premium brand like Denon can release this to its customers and expect them to use it is a mystery to me. Have deleted this app and have instead installed the Denon Remote App (which has less functionality but at least appears to be stable with fewer bugs).

This app crashes or hangs too often to be very usable. Especially the music server browsing is tedious. Also, it asks you to select your device on every app startup. I'm guessing that most people only have one of these, so it makes no sense. I'm using BubbleUPnP for my Denon Ceol N9 until Denon gets its act together.

Worked for 2 days, then couldn't find my piccolo despite being on same network. Controls are very slow when compared to other network remotes. UI is horribly designed. Love my denon, hate this app.

Seems to need network control enabled if you want to be able to switch on the Denon. Without network control all other functions seem to work once the unit is switched on.

Disgraceful that a supposedly good brand like Denon has such a terrible app. Worked ok, but after last Samsung Android update it fails on startup. Don't have this issue with any other app.

Was working fine.. now won't work over wi-fi with my s7. Pretty sure my network is fine and I've tried the unplug / reset.

I just can't believe this app hasn't changed in all this time. My Ceol 8 is not compatible with the app. So frustrating!
