Reviews From google play store

It is a useless app it only eats up memory!

I bought 2 Nexus7 tablets and my S4 BECAUSE of Currents The fact that it would update all my news automatically so it could be read offline made it unique. Now that is gone with this auto update to Newstand. P.S. Newsstand is working well offline now. Only thing, one needs to press the back button to switch magazines, but overall close to Currents now

The app was okay, but it never captured my attention for very long. I always found myself going back to a normal RSS reader. Newsstand works better for me as a kind of RSS supplement, so I'm glad the latest update removes Currents from the app drawer. It was a good first attempt at a graphically inspired reader, but Newsstand is much better. So long Currents.

Google Currents was the nicest reader I've used, very clean minimal visuals. I'd previously used Google Reader. But the replacement, Newsstand is nowhere near so good. Yes it looks great on a 7 inch tablet. There's no way to stop it bringing up a random stream of articles. Many perfectly valid feeds don't load properly when I try to add them. It doesn't have the simplicity of Currents. The only reason I'm still using it, is that Newsstand lets me read articles offline - although not with the ease that Currents enabled it.

There is a huge amount of sites I see that you are pulling info from. I was so happy to see great articles posted, where pulse fails google excels! My only complaint is when I download what says "google currents", I open the app and when im done I find my shortcut gone. Its being replaced by Newsstand.

Newsstand came as a preinstalled app on my phone yet I still discovered, downloaded and kept Currents. Why? Because I hated newsstand. But now Google decided to combine the two very obviously so that it becomes easier for its users to purchase subscriptions. But I was very informed with just the free news I received easily and quickly with Currents. Now I will find it much more difficult to read the best news stories on a regular basis. Not satisfied with this "replacement" one bit.

Currents was THE BEST news app. This is a nostalgia rating. Still keep the icon. A reminder of how Google can screw things up. Newsstand is not bad, but it lacks in customization and actual readability. The UX is simpler, true, however the enjoyment of really getting into what you're reading, especially on a tablet, is completely gone. Sad... I don't particularly like Flipboard, but that's what I'm using now.

Dear Google, I was very happy when someone put Microsoft under pressure. But lately I'm more and more disappointed with apps and services. Apps keep coming and going without any notice. Bye bye, there is nothing left for just lost one client BTW: why I can't give zero rating? this move would deserve nothing else....

Google Currents was an amazing app which downloaded great content automatically for reading on the plane or train or any offline location:. Why on earth would you kill such a fantastic tool in order to try and sell more electronic magazines? Tried for last hour to download anything; total fail not worthy of even 1 star

Currents was better than Newstand and here's why: Currents had my very favorite home screen widget ever that let you thumb through different article headlines right from the home screen. Seriously, it was fun. Currents paginated all the articles so you actually moved through them rather than scrolling. Much more enjoyable and makes big articles less intimidating. I didn't even mind the ads. There doesn't seem to be a single stream you can see all your "My News" feeds in at once. You have to pick them individually to see their articles. The best thing about Currents was being able to pick the most interesting articles, from several sources, quickly. Most insulting, Newstand automatically adds a bunch of junk magazine and news subscriptions even if you were an existing user from Currents.
