Why does CellMapper need so many permissions?
"make and manage phone calls" - This is required to get low level network data from your device
"access to device location" - In order to map and contribute, we will need to know where the data was recorded from your device.

Older versions of Android:
android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION - To get CellID information
android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION - To get GPS location
android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE - To get Cellular network information
android.permission.INTERNET - To connect to server to download map data / upload data
android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE - To write external CSV file if no internet connection
android.permission.READ_LOGS - To read Samsung Field Test Mode data on Android 4.1 and earlier (despite what the dialog says, the app cannot read your browsing history unless your browser write it to the system log)
android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE - To read info about airplane mode / network settings
android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED - To start at boot time (if enabled)
android.permission.VIBRATE - To vibrate on CellID change (if enabled)
android.permission.WAKE_LOCK - For phones that do not support 4.2+ CellID Support, to ensure they report correct data
android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE - To write external CSV file and debug report

Reviews From google play store

Used to be good, not so much now. When I first started using the app, it added the data liked they advertised, within a week. Sometime during the summer, my data stopped showing up. I complained, and they suggested I try the premium service and data would show up within hours. All it did was return the weekly updates for the first month. By the second month, the data is taking about a month. I've now cancelled, and I'm not sure I'll do anymore collections.

It has a few minor issues. But it's great for showing you exactly what cellular signals you're getting. But my favorite feature is that it shows you where your towers are, on a coverage map, along with where you need to go if you need a signal and don't have one. (The big drawback here is that you have to have a signal to even see the coverage map.)

Have been using for about two weeks and uploading data but it doesnt seem to be appearing on the map.

Says in rural area that no towers exist and yet i have sinal for internet and cell calls!

Loved this when i was using tmobile now on us cellular no maps or towers

I want to like this app. While I can log in to the website, I cannot log into the app. not sure if it's my account or the app itself.

Great for finding towers and see what coverage is in the area for your cellphone.

Cells tab isnt working and the app is crashing a lot

Doesn't show cell towers on the map, just your location. Useless app

Find nearest tower + check other providers 👍 perfect

Seemed OK at first. But didn't explain enough to a person with limited operational knowledge. Needed to be able to actually input my carrier. Also, I just wanted to see the closest towers to me to decide which provider I would like to switch to. I am on Total Wireless and it seems to not be a good choice for my locality. I think this app is great for very knowledgeable people but, I think for a newbie, not as much. Great job for who it is designed for. Wasn't a fit for me. 😕

very interesting app with a lot of options; however, the stupid ad at the bottom annoys the heck out of me. It reminds me of android from 4-6 years ago. Give me the option to donate, pay some money for the app, etc (non subscription) and i will give 5 stars and re-install. until then i will use other apps.

if the app is running it's pulling all the data it can. I can't make the app idle in the background without it sucking down my battery heavily. Even if i turn off data logging. I like the idea of this app but it needs to be less aggressive with how its done. opensignal does this much better (albiet less detailed data)

Completely Useless! It's like a toy. It pretends there are cell towers where there are NONE! Itcan NOT locate the towers when you park right next to one. If we, the users, must map them ourselves what's the use? The FCC map, available online, is accurate.

The app is great does what o want and does it well. However, the battery drain is crazy. Which make sense because it use so much GPS. However, I cant find a way to turn the app off, even when not recording it drains my battery just as much. There should really be a way to turn it off besides turning my GPS off. Edit:12/6/18 found out how to kill it, there is a drop down menu in the notifications bar, one option is exit, this makes my experience much better!

Awesome for mapping coverage and showing advanced info like the tower ID, sector, band info etc... -1 star because it occasionally forgets my login and have to re login but not a big deal. Awesome app and better than all the other coverage mapping applications like Sensorly or OpenSignal etc...

Edit: Changed from 1 star to 5 stars as the developer articulated the reasoning behind the requested permission! permission of "make & manage phone calls" is ridiculous!

Love this, some people need to understand that the app needs to be mapped and it won't be accurate with just one pass, but if you know where the masts are you can add them which I have done it's also fun mapping lol.

For some reason I was able to change my password to one that didn't have a capital letter. it allowed me to login on the web but not the app. Figured it out now and otherwise a great app and interesting resource.

the first cell mapper app which can show the tower positions correctly.

I have tried several similar apps, and Cell Maper was the only one which correctly showed the location of my local cell sites, and which one I was using. Very satisfied.

The latest version seem to have a bug. You have to turn on GPS just to see which band your phone is connected to. Otherwise, it displays blank data

Has the best mapping interface of all the cell mapping apps out there.

Database queries do not match up with website. Many towers show on the app that do not show on the website, both 'Low Accuracy' towers settings match.

Works great but upload is hit and miss experience. No retries on failures, sometimes shows uploading in progress without any data actually uploaded.

Stopped working all of a sudden and doesn't show any data at all any more.

You do not need access to my contacts nor to make phone calls! Uninstall since I cant use it. I have way too many spam calls using unique names in my contacts tricking me sorry not risking it.

Doesn't work with Intel processors phones (ex. ASUS Zenfone 6)

I blocked the install when it insisted that I allow "game tools" and risky permissions. I don't allow such junk on my phone or computer.

still getting adds in app after paid for premium yes tried logging off and back in

Maps update fast. Battery drains faster.

It cannot locate Verizon towers at all.

Demands permissions without proof it works. App demands to know who I'm calling and where I am, and won't provide proof it works without violating my privacy.

Great app for finding band info.

This app needs to manage phone calls? No

Could not register.

Didn't show up in my list of apps. Sketchy!

Very detailed app.

Works great most accurate our there.

Need to organize this app better.

Works as advised

TDadadadaaaa im loving it

waste of time

it is awesome...Great work !!!

is this app works flawlessly with Samsung's s9+ Oreo?

tnx for this tool

i can track parallel deminsions

On my S8 plus and on my note 10 plus data was not accurate showing towers where no tower is (I'm a professional radio tech, so I know where towers are at in my area and even drove to a location it said a tower was, no tower) . Other problem is it would override my screen timeout so it was always on. Tried many things, screen stayed on till I uninstalled this app. That solved the problem. Hope that helps people.

Непонятно, что означают цвета на карте. Как понять, где есть 5G?

Excelente Aplicación

Please create a version that has no ads. They're so annoying. In 2017 you mentioned that you could create a pro version. I don't want to be tracked by advertisers. The app has stopped using my uploads so it's not working for me.

Shuts down without warning. Oneplus 6. Edit - there's many apps that behave fine in background. Stop the excuses

MyMobileCoverage #1. CellMapper #2. Sensorly/OpenSignal tied #3. RootMetrics no longer recommended. Use ALL to create evidence of good/bad service.

Hood Good.

This app works fine and it gave the technical data fine... but the cell locations are inaccurate, the information it shows while technically correct is wrong, mapping doesn't work. Traveling with the app does nothing towards updating the map. There are better apps for the information you can get from it. If the mapping was accurate it would be worth it, but every tower I looked at is in the wrong location and the app cannot update the map or location on the map. I tried the app again, it is s battery hog and doesn't allow the screen to fully dim and still does not give accurate tower locations

App was great but is not stable on OnePlus 3T or 6 on Android 8 / 8.1. Stops recording. Only indication is the "Cell" view is blank. Have to exit and restart to get things moving again.

I had previously tried to use this app on a Galaxy Express in 2013 and the map didn't work. However, it works wonderfully on the S6. Thank you for having accurate locations for the towers!

Not showing cell towers. Shows little green squares along our road where other cell strength maps display red. Red agrees with my experience as our area has very poor signal. Buying a Samsung signal booster for Verizon . Otherwise 1 or no bars here.

Best cell tower mapping app I've found. And I have tested a lot of them up to now. Very, very useful information and filter functions.

Please make geofencing setup via menu, because it's very easy to accidentally reset it while viewing the map.

Much better that other apps that never seem to update their coverage maps at all.

Force closes after running for 10 minutes or so since last updated. One plus 5t

It used to show the cell towers around me and it accurately show which tower I was connected, but not anymore it only shows red dots that I think they are wifi spots (private wifi) but the cell towers dissappear now, it was excellent, now its useless.

I don't know who this app is for. I just wanted to know what tower I'm using but I would need a manual to interpret this app.

Why is this app showing porn ads?!?!!

Car mode don't support dual SIM. Otherwise will be a perfect app.

Excellent App for mapping... Cells!

Drains battery

Not working on Lineageos 14.1note 3 info shows then quickly disappears

This is an amazing app for mapping cell coverage. However, the app "what's new" says the field test screen reader removed by Google demand? Does that mean there was privacy issue? I enjoyed using it as the map got the Bands and Bandwidth immediately in the data, and helped for deciphering which towers had which frequencies rapidly. I would be happy if it can return, as it was great feature that other cell coverage mapping apps don't have.

If the signal strength does not refresh on your Samsung phone without restarting this app on the "old api"; insert your main SIM as 1 or 2; insert another SIM; set other SIM as default for calls, SMS, data, 4G(LTE)/3G(WCDMA or UMTS)/2G(GSM) auto; reboot(restart); remove other sim. The main sim will be set as default automatically, and the signal strength will refresh for that SIM. Disable the other SIM because it might share the signal strength. If those margins are incorrect set this app to non-game, or the resolution at 100% in the game tuner. Use the "new api" if available (signal strength not -51 or 0), disable dual SIM support, LTE only. It takes hours for the data to process, this is normal.

This app overtime does guess where the towers are with pretty good accuracy. I am the only person uploading data right now and with just my contribution s it does a really well job.

Waste app. This app is not showing the Tx and the Rx frequency in my Samsung Note 4 SM-910G.

I best app ever, so actuate and really easy to use, I've logged over 300km now

Excellent data visualization

This app works well but once it gets removed from the battery optimizations as it instructs the battery drain is unbelievably high. I'm going to have to remove it because of that.

Not showing tower and coverage deatil. Just my location only.

Wanted to have permission to access my files/photos and make phone calls. So I said no and uninstalled.

Useless app. Asked for all permissions in the world and crashed 5 times in the first run. Don't download.

Wanted to find towers in France from Belgium stupid location demand by small minded programmers only show Belgium.

Fake weather alert ad... disruptive confusing ad

Only just downloaded it but so far it seems very good, I can't wait to root my phone so I can provide more data 😊

I don't get it. No towers displayed on the map.

Disconects me from my cell providor, also tryed to make an accout and it failed,

I LOVE that it utilizes second screen but I'd like to be able to swipe it out of the way so I can access other stuff. The ability to enable/disable this functionality would be good as well. I hate ads. I'd pay $1-$2 for an ad-free version.

The app was totally useless to me. I wanted to find Verizon towers and Verizon isn't even one of the choices you can search for. I couldn't see any Towers on the map and didn't have any better luck on the PC either. I realize it gets data from users and perhaps in the areas I'm looking users haven't supplied data. It was basically a waste of time to try this one.

Worked okay on my Snapdragon devices. But does not work at all on my Huawei Kirin processor. Any plans to support this chipset?

Very nice

App says that there is a cell tower in my house that serves half of the city. I don't think so

Ever since the Nougat update, my Cells page has a ton of Phantom readings. Also, I get logged out often & my readings don't log sometimes. I would have the app running & go to upload and there's nothing to upload. Love this app but these 7.0 are downing the experience. Is there anything I can do? VZW S7 Edge

Can we get a paid ad-free version? I think the ads are a bit annoying. I'd gladly pay a few dollars for this program. Would rate it 5 star without ads. Edit: A monthly subscription would also be an acceptable alternative to ads.

Love the app, use it all the time. WIND/Freedom Mobile in Canada has a new LTE network running soley on band 66 (AWS3) but the app recognizes it as "B3" instead of "B66". Need as many people as possible to upload data as the network is so new towers haven't been mapped out well yet but more data is coming everyday, need more people to use the app on Freedom LTE!

not work with P9 and anroid 7 Emui5.0 earlier emui Ok. I colect much of data from western finland but not any can't do this now

Distracting and deceptive ads. Don't bother suggesting I report ads, what a joke. Please produce a non ad version. Please don't turn on collection automatically.

Unsure what this app does. It did not find any cell networks near me.

5.0.9 does not work. are uploaded points but nothing appears on the map.

requires following permissions on your android device.

approximate location (network-based)
Allows the app to get your approximate location. This location is derived by location services using network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine approximately where you are.

precise location (GPS and network-based)
Allows the app to get your precise location using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine where you are, and may consume additional battery power.

view network connections
Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected.

Allows access to the list of accounts in the Accounts Service.

full network access
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.

read sensitive log data
Allows the app to read from the system's various log files. This allows it to discover general information about what you are doing with the phone, potentially including personal or private information.

read phone state
Allows read only access to phone state, including the phone number of the device, current cellular network information, the status of any ongoing calls, and a list of any PhoneAccounts registered on the device.

run at startup
Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allow the app to slow down the overall phone by always running.

control vibration
Allows the app to control the vibrator.

prevent phone from sleeping
Allows the app to prevent the phone from going to sleep.

modify or delete the contents of your SD card
Allows the app to write to the SD card.

read Google service configuration
