Catholic Rosary The Holy Rosary is a Marian devotion of religious practice widespread among Roman Catholics, who pray both public and individually. It consists of the serial recitation of prayers with the aid of a chain with beads or nodes, that has the same name. The rosary also includes the contemplation of certain passages of the life of Jesus and his mother Mary, who, according to the doctrine of the Catholic Church, are of particular relevance to the history of salvation and are called "mysteries". The rosary was traditionally divided into three equal parts, each with fifty accounts and that they correspond to one third were third calls. Each third includes a special set of five mysteries: the joyful, painful or glorious. Pope John Paul II, through the Apostolic Letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae, of October 16, 2002, added a new series of mysteries, called the Luminous Mysteries. This new series of mysteries available for contemplation did not change the format of the Rosary, which remains 150 Hail Marys, or three Thirds 50 Hail Marys.
