Das Einzugsgebiet reicht von Görlitz bis Glauchau, von Bad Brambach bis Hoyerswerda. Rund 860 Ärzte decken im Universitätsklinikum Dresden das gesamte Spektrum der modernen Medizin ab. 1.860 Schwestern und Pfleger kümmern sich um das Wohl der Patienten. Neben seiner zentralen Bestimmung, der Krankenversorgung, erfüllt das Universitätsklinikum Dresden auch Aufgaben der Aus-, Fort- und Weiterbildung des medizinischen Personals sowie im öffentlichen Gesundheitswesen. Seit dem 1. Juli 1999 ist das Universitätsklinikum eine Anstalt des öffentlichen Rechts des Freistaates Sachsen. Entscheidungen können somit schneller und direkt vor Ort getroffen werden.
