Mohammad Iqbal Lahori or Allameh Iqbal (18 Aban 1256 Sialkot to 1 May 1317 Lahore) was a Pakistani Muslim poet, philosopher, politician and thinker, who also wrote many poems in Persian and Urdu. Iqbal was the first to introduce the idea of an independent state to the Muslims of India, which eventually led to the creation of Pakistan. Iqbal is officially called a "national poet" in this country.
