I have started using this app for various purposes. I think it should get integrated and become a part of google home app. Because not many people know about it. Still it has a lot to improve to be at par with Siri Shortcuts app

google Works great for what it does, but it's strange that we can't use our Google account to backup the app. Needs fresh setup of all widgets on every new device.

ev3 Was good. Now sucks, like most Google software. Pointless app. If you're looking for a multi-step hassle, just use Assistant. This app serves no real purpose anymore. Just another layer to bloat up your phone with more Google.

action blocked instagram Hi guys, I love the idea of the app, but I wish it had direct access to my apps (instead it using Google Assistant) so that even without internet connection, I could do stuff easily. Just by the way, I ❤ this app!

Please make blocks synchronizable within a google account. Also, I'm trying to use my old phone as a control panel with action blocks, so it would be more user friendly to not show assistant window at all. Especially now when we have vibration as a feedback.

Please upgrade the UI. It's so boring and plain, and doesn't have a dark mode, too. And also the widget's UI, make it round just a little bit. So many Android devices have a round screen corner, so it will be good if the widget have a round corner, too. Overall, 5 stars for the idea of this app, and the simplicity in the UX. It would be awesome if the UI is upgraded.

  37. Emanuel Alexandru-avatar

    Emanuel Alexandru

Really useful but EXTREMELY SLOW. Can't it switch the lights in the background instead of opening the assistant? it needs more icons. "toggle the lights" works but "toggle the smart socket" doesn't work on Google Assistant. The latter needs two action blocks, each one dedicated to the ON and OFF state. Also, text on small home screen action blocks is located on the bottom and doesnt fit, it should start on top to fill the whole block. Finally, I wish action blocks could be grouped in folders.

  38. rhys heenan-avatar

    rhys heenan

Great app, love that routines can be completed from the homescreen. Some suggestions: Make the buttons look more like app icons Complete routines without showing the Google assistant popup For buttons used as a toggle, show the toggle state on the button, for example whether lights are on or off. This can act as an easy way to see whether lights have been accidentally turned on or were left on.

  39. danny Cobb-avatar

    danny Cobb

The return to action blocks button gets in the way a lot I think it be great if it disappeared for several minutes then reappear like on a timer or something and it didn't place a shortcut and it can't bring up my Google assistant it keeps saying check internet connection and my internet connection is fine

  40. Khaled Taleb-avatar

    Khaled Taleb

Great idea, sometimes one doesn't feel like shouting the commands at the phone, when one button press could do the job! However some actions just end up giving a blank assistant UI with no actual result ( see for example : show me my shopping list )

  41. JellyKit-avatar

Actually I wanted to tried this application and to be honest this was actually a mistake, the application is really sucking my creativity out to my mind because to be honest this isn't necessary and no one asked for it. No one need this application if you have Google voice and you just hold the home button and you can use Google, this application is really for the person who's lazy and wanted to be a product of Google advertise. This isn't necessary Google.

  42. Badshah Iqbal-avatar

    Badshah Iqbal

I see so much potential with this app. I recently started investing heavily on smart home and decided to go with google home as my choice for voice assistant. I used like talking to google assistant but the novelty is wearing off same with others in my home. But this app could totally fill the gaps and talk to assistant on behalf off me. While I understand this was intended for people with special needs, having the functionality to not hear it talking to Google assistant would be great

  43. bish s-avatar

    bish s

Huge potential, long way to go. Cons: only single-step-routines, no importation of existing routines, when icon is clicked the screen goes to the assistant mode and never reverts back to the home screen, really ugly icons! I don't get it: with highest quality engineers that work for Google they couldn't dedicate a couple of days to make this app really useful and nice looking? This app feels like a half assed attempt that someone tried before going to bed late at night. Hope it will improve.

  44. Kushagra Doshi-avatar

    Kushagra Doshi

Needs improvement. When I use a widget placed on the home screen, it says "Can't reach the internet!" even though the connection to the internet works well. Edit : After reading the comments, it's due to Battery saver enabled. Disabling battery saver makes the widget work just fine. Edit 2 : After the update on 28th May, it works well without the need to disable Battery saver mode

  45. Benjamin Wilkinson-avatar

    Benjamin Wilkinson

Works as expected, easy to setup and use in conjunction with all my smart lights. The icons and the way they work with the homepage definitely need some work though and in their current state really let down the entire app and make it very unappealing. My issues include the size of the icons - why so big? Why so ugly? Resizing the icons is useless as it cuts off the action title. Why aren't the action block icons compatible with folders? The app has huge potential, but really feels half-baked.

  46. Wiktor Poczatek-avatar

    Wiktor Poczatek

I was pumped for this app, but it lacks so much. I wish it would just integrate with my existing routines, I mean that's what you'd expect from what is basically an Assistant Add-on... Also, the widgets are just horrible looking, their scaling is a joke, you can't NOT have image on your block and the symbols provided look like they're from 2011. I really wish I could use this app, but right now it's awful. Looking forward to future updates to fix those obvious drawbacks.

  47. Jacob Mason-avatar

    Jacob Mason

I want to like it but it's buggy. Google gets a idea and rushes it out. Using us as a beta. Wish they didn't take their customers for granted so. Reminds me of Microsoft, there is linux! Hoping they just don't up in abandoned the project("google it"). This app has potential if the programmers put a little effort into it, we shall see..

  48. Naval Chauhan-avatar

    Naval Chauhan

Great step towards automation of routine tasks! Few inputs to developers - 1. should have option to set chain of commands or multiple commands in sequence eg: when I enter my car I would like to toggle few switches (Bluetooth, data connection etc) open an app and play some music. Won't like to press 3-4 action blocks for this2. Should have option to set defaults for respective actions like messaging to number(contacts may have multiple numbers), sending number (in case of dual Sims /dual apps)

  49. Edward Anthony R. Baronia-avatar

    Edward Anthony R. Baronia

Almost there. Huge potential, but not quite there yet. One annoying thing is that to control something like a light in the kitchen requires different phrasing than controlling a living room light. Same type of device, two totally different user experiences. Also, requesting external apps like LG to perform an action works only a small percentage of the time when the exact same spoken request produces a different result.

  50. Florian B-avatar

    Florian B

Great idea, I don't like having to speak aloud to turn on and off my lights, especially at night, so in theory it should be faster than having to wait for Google home to load. The creation of the widget is really easy, however the app crashes every time I try to place in on my screen. It is then useless... Maybe in a few more updates.

  51. Eric Peterson-avatar

    Eric Peterson

This has a lot of potential for kids in the home. I wish it was compatible with Family Link so my kids didn't always have to struggle with Google Assistant to change the color of the lights in their reading room. Allowing parents to create the blocks and preventing the kids from editing them would be perfect. Until then it seems to be just for experiments instead of practical use.

  52. Name-avatar

Works as advertised. Button triggers assistant and runs typed saved command. Handy if you want to turn off lights but don't want to shout at connected speaker or talk to phone. Widgets are ugly, and glaring white. Not enough icons or button pictures.

  53. Carlos Aguillón-avatar

    Carlos Aguillón

Great idea. Needs improvements. For my lights I need to have 2 widgets, one for on and another one for off. It would be nice if you could arrange it so when I touch a light widget, for example the kitchen light, if it is on it turns off and if it's off it turns on. So I don't have to have so many widgets.

  54. emejuru daniel-avatar

    emejuru daniel

Wow! I'm really impressed by the ideas put into this app and the implementation. It's very useful. Rather than me shouting "okay google" or long-pressing my home button, I just have to simply tap on my screen. However I would just like it if you guys could make the widgets a little more fun. Rather that we just having boxed or rectangular widgets, other shapes may be introduced. Nice work google 👏.

  55. agentlotek-avatar

Created Action Block to toggle my carport lights. It works about 2-3 times then crashes with error "A Problem Occured (Unable to reach the Google Assistant)" Have to tap "OK" on error popup then the back navigation button to exit onscreen overlay. Only way to get it to work again is to either force close Google Assistant or reboot device. This has huge potential and I hope is fixed soon. I will update review if app becomes reliable and worthy of reccomendation. Device Used: Google Pixel 3a XL

Automated 4 security cameras to view them at the touch of an icon on 3 chromecast TVs simultaneously. Easy as pie to do. It appears not to be available for chromebooks yet. Let me know if this happens. One problem i noticed is that on a galaxy s7 the blocks work in test mode but when the block is played it gives an error saying it needs an internet connection. Works on moto e6 fine.

  57. Ron Rieckenberg-avatar

    Ron Rieckenberg

Trying to set up a simple action of sending a text message only works if the messages app is already open. Otherwise you need to wait then click open messages app. I tried then to program it to first open the messages app then send a message. That cannot be done in one action block. The app has potential but it is not yet very good.

  58. Zak Caley-avatar

    Zak Caley

Brilliant idea I remember working in a call centre environment many years ago and I managed to automate almost the entire job by creating macros. There is huge potential here but the app is buggy. Currently any block I click just freezes the home screen and displays a message 'cannot reach the Google assistant'. Galaxy S10+

  59. David Goehring-avatar

    David Goehring

I am glad for this accessibility feature, but it doesn't work. I created an action to change a light and tested it, and it worked perfectly. Then added a button to home and when I tap it it then searches for red cookware. A bad, unreliable accessibility app is worse than no app at all.

  60. Geoff-avatar

A lot of potential. But.. other automation accessibility tools execute so much faster. And, considering you have to spend significant time correcting the sentence structure to work with The Assistant, the other apps learning curves seem very little different. The execution time, I think, is the biggest drawback of Action Blocks / Google Assistant.

  61. Sam Laane-avatar

    Sam Laane

This is so useful and necessary that I'm giving it 5 starts despite a lack of polish. I would like to see more icons (is that can also appear better on variety of devices), better way of listing actions, and return codes that allowed conditional execution. This is basically the closest thing Android has to shell scripting so I would hope they make it turning complete and give it better delays and UI interactions. A must have for smart home and phone power users

Complains about no internet connection after clicking on button even though internet is on. Widget shows text too small. Requires lots of improvement. Update: the above issue seems to have been fixed. Thanks Google LLC. Please make the home screen text font bigger as well as the ratio of symbol to label is quite big.

  64. Boris Lipschitz-avatar

    Boris Lipschitz

Finally, widgets for Google assistant! But why does it have to speak the replies out loud, even when the phone is in DND mode, without any option to disable it?! Also, no way to customize a widget in any way, always black unhidable title on white background, icons background can't be transparent etc. And i am not even talking about less trivial features, such as actually presenting light state and color, thermostat temperature and mode, etc, on the widgets. PS: good start, but not there yet.

  65. Cristian-avatar

I have no idea why the rating is so low... I wanted an automatic voice command on my home screen to close my door with(August lock) and this works perfectly. Thank you so much!

  66. Gary Shekleton-avatar

    Gary Shekleton

Great idea for quick accessibility and actions. But when I create a "block" and try to launch it from homescreen. It gives me an saying I don't have an internet connection and this action can't be performed. This makes the app unusable. Please fix and I will update my review. Galaxy S20+

  67. Dave Silva-avatar

    Dave Silva

Subpar app and pretty useless!!! - Commands are executed very very slow. - Puts the phone/tablet screen on to the Google assistant, and WORSE, leaves the screen on the Google assistant so it is very bright and distracting and annoying. - Very time consuming to setup with little payoff. - Can't folder widgets so it is a home screen real estate pig. - Can't transfer setup to other devices - No backup option. - Few Icons/Symbols in app Only reason it gets a star is because it is free.

One issue is that it triggers Google assistant then I have to manually press the voice/record button to continue my task. I want to add a calendar event but I have to set my time and date by voice. So now I have to press the button at the bottom before it takes my voice

  69. Aasrith Reddy-avatar

A very nice idea! Can be improved. 1. More icons needed in the symbol library 2. Ability to combine multiple icons would be amazing. Say, music and tv, so that I know it means, 'play music on living room TV' 3. There is no default lights off symbol available in the library. It only comes up as a suggestion.

  70. Josef Torkelsen-avatar

Love it. Having widget's to perform Google assistant actions is awesome. I just wish the widget scaled better to 1x1 or even went to 1x1 by default. The images that I select don't scale well. It would also be good to have nested Google actions so you can say one thing and have like 6 things happen.

  71. Leo G-avatar

Pixel 4xl. This is a desperately needed app but at least on this phone is absolutely useless. One button works and then all buttons seize more frequently than not. Assistant windows open but should also automatically close. Error message "can't reach Google Assistant" could be this programs avatar. Like Pinocchio, waiting for this to become a real worthy app. Please don't abandon this effort!

  72. Ted Voltolina-avatar

    Ted Voltolina

This app should be a standard part of the Google Assistant, not just an afterthought accessibility add-on. Creating home screen shortcuts for Google Assistant Routines should be an out of the box feature. To enhance this app, please allow users to import their existing Google Assistant Routines. When creating new Action Blocks, please make the full Google Assistant Routine interface available, so users can add multiple steps and more customizations. And from a design perspective, the icons and home screen widgets are very ugly and should stick to Google's existing visual language.

  73. David Mulder-avatar

    David Mulder

Terrible implemention of a good idea. Why is this using widgets instead of shortcuts? Why is this not just allowing you to add routines to your home screen? Why this is completely separate app? All that was needed was a simple 'long press on your routine in the home app to add to your home screen as a shortcut' and it would've been perfect. Incredibly disappointing frankly. PS. Shortcuts are better as they have wider launcher support in popular non traditional launchers (e.g Niagara)

  74. Erik Ušaj-avatar

    Erik Ušaj

Doesn't not work. Pressing action on Home screen doesn't do anything: Action isn't spoken aloud. Google assistant doesn't do a thing. In case a custom phrase is set no checking is done if action overlaps with existing Assistant logic. Pretty much useless another Beta project from Google. Install this if you wish useless gadgets on your screen. IMHO: Apps like Trigger - Task launcher or similar can do a better job and also have widgets for Android Home screen.

  75. Greg Driver-avatar

    Greg Driver

Easy to make the action block and test. However, very hard to add it to the home screen - just says "not placed."

  76. Zeke Schmois-avatar

    Zeke Schmois

Not well designed. Unfortunately the UX is not well made as it used the phone's assistant to run the commands. Since the Google home is not controllable externally, this app has more limitations than make it worth using. Not its fault, it's a symptom of the Google Home's security UX.

  77. Pranshul Shrivastava-avatar

    Pranshul Shrivastava

Great idea, and have amazing usage potential, however I feel rather than creating such large widgets it'd look much better and appealing if the widgets can be created in the form of icons such as the sound search widget of Google app or the new task widget of the Tasks app or the driving widget of the Maps app. It'd look much better to place such multiple widgets on the home screen as well as help better organize them in multiple folders and such.

  78. Goran Kirjakovic-avatar

Nice idea but need improvements. Need the ability to choose from already make routines in the assistant. Need option to select on which device you want to play certain music or perform certain actions for example want to play music on mini or on default speaker connected. Want to open YouTube on TV via cromecast and so on.

  79. Dilipkumar N-avatar

    Dilipkumar N

Tried it. I used a simple command. Call my wife using Whatsapp. Didn't work. I'm not sure if this app is incapable of this action or if there's a bug. It would be a great help if you'd evolve the app to work seamlessly with other apps in your ecosystem. If I have a widget which will help my parents video call me via their phone just by a single tap, that's awesome for me. I don't mind the initial setup if this app can automate complex tasks.

Error message after the test was conclusive. After it was added to my screen as a widget and I clicked on, an error message comes up : can't reach the internet. But my connexion works very well even Google assistant. So make it works before editing the app on the playstore. (Android 10).

  83. Rob Riddell Tìgeir-avatar

Nice shortcut builder. The limitations are really the limitations of Google assistant. The number of taps involved seems excessive for the purpose and there's some tiny text for optional stuff but if you can't read the tiny text you don't know it's optional.

Loved the idea, but not working right now. Widgets when placed on home screen and pressed gets the error "Can't reach the internet" even though my wifi internet is fine and action tested ok in the app. Edit: apparently I've to disable power saving mode on my phone.

Great idea in theory, but I can't get it to work with simple commands like navigation. You can't string together multiple actions. Examples show that you can but no matter what I do it only accepts one command out of the two or more given.

  86. Matthew Winfree-avatar

    Matthew Winfree

It's a great idea, but lacking in systems integration logic: these should be able to do simple toggling. If I can turn on a light, won't I want to turn it off later? Commands are not logic based at all. I'm betting you already knew this though....

The App is like Bixby routines. It's a nice App to start Google Assistant routines. But it's not working on my Note 10 Plus. It always says: Can't reach Internet connection. Please try again later if I tap on a widget. That is boring..... Fix it Google. Would love to use it.

Triggered Automation would be extremely useful, e.g. when connected to WiFi network A send a text message to Tom, David and Harry saying I have arrived at Building A. Etc. Rather than clicking an icon. Be able to have automatically triggered commands similar to Apples shortcuts.

  89. Duke Miller-avatar

    Duke Miller

This is an important thing to have, but is lacking in its integration abilities. Specifically I'd personally be wanting a way to call webhooks from Google assistant via a conversation. IFTTT can do this in a limited fashion, but doing it natively here would be a huge win.

Needs improvement. Theres an option 4 th assistant not 2 read th action out loud but theres no option 4 it not 2 display on screen whats happening. Once displayed it remains on screen until u manually clear it. Th widgets r terrible. Resizable but they automatically & excessively emphasise th icon rather than th action name. Th smaller th widget th smaller th text is until its illegible while th icon size is pointlessly maintained until its unrecognisable. Ther shuld b a TEXT ONLY widget option.

Awesome! I rarely can say these actions without tripping up or forgetting something and if my phone is on me this really helps. Wish there was a dark mode though. Also the widgets could use a better look. Other than that it's awesome.

Wonderful idea. However each time I use a block on my home screen, a message tells me that I need an internet connection. (Which I clearly have, because it works via Google assistant) If I could resolve this, I would rate 5*****

  93. Steven Shadow-avatar

    Steven Shadow

Exactly what I needed to alter the state of my smart home without having to talk (thus waking the baby) or cumbersomely type the same commands every single time. This is a great way to have a 'remote' for a smart home on a homescreen.

  94. Olie Lacey-avatar

    Olie Lacey

Barely ever works, for example had a action to play a playlist. It would sometimes play it, sometimes play a different shared playlist, sometimes just say "assistant is unavailable" yet if I trigger the assistant it works. Uninstalling.

Tried the app and I am fairly pleased with it. Had the same problem with the internet connection Turning of the battery saving mode resolved it. But this, of course, needs a fix...

Functionality that I've been wanting in Google Home for years! All works pretty well, but I can't put the widgets in folders. This would increase the usability substantially. Keep up the good work.

  97. Micah Goldstein-avatar

Needs some work! As others have said, it doesn't just perform the action without much fuss, it consumes the screen with the assistant interface. Not quite primetime.

  98. Cody DOrazio-avatar

    Cody DOrazio

Apps ok... Yes it does do what it says, but it allows the assistant screen to pop up and it takes quite some time to register and do its job. I'd rather stick to talking to the assistant.

    Cyber Fame

Ohh look it's the budget tasker. Still can't trigger routines or the google assistant with my door sensor. I have now to click a button. You call that smart? That's a remote. What does the auto mean in automation. It's means pushing buttons, like a remote, according to gOoGLe. Alexa is so much better, can't wait till it has more languages, then byebye poodle

    Kristof Katzenberger

good app, but I'd absolutely love it if i could use those blocks as icons instead of widgets, so that I can put my most used routines in a folder so that they don't take up a whole page.

  101. Robby S-avatar

    Robby S

Love this app! I think it has a lot of potential over time to do more actions. Only thing I wish it would do is that when it does a command, that the Google assistant doesn't pop up and it just executes it in the background

  102. Kevin Stanislawski-avatar

    Kevin Stanislawski

Near 5 stars but one big issue imo thats making me knock off two. Every time you hit a square you create, the assistant takes over the whole screen for 5-10 seconds as the commands play out. I wish it either didn't pop up at all, or was more minimal.

  103. neurawolf-avatar

It's nice to just click on something instead of speaking it out loud. But it's not as fast as speaking. I would wish that the widgets get circular instead of bulky white boxes.

This app doesn't recognize requests to play music/playlists on YouTube Music. But it recognizes request to play music from Spotify. Hopefully Google will fix this in the future. Otherwise, it has promise.

  105. Randall Cochran-avatar

    Randall Cochran

It's a helpful app that frankly should be built into Android. However, it looks awkward when you tap a button and the Assistant takes over the screen. I feel like there should be more icons to choose from as well, such as emoji.

  106. Sean Cromwell-avatar

Great idea for the elderly. One suggestion, the widgets shouldn't be one tap to activate. It's too easy to accidentally press them by mistake. Maybe a long press or something.

  107. Benjamin Vogt-avatar

    Benjamin Vogt

App doesn't work, completes the task when I test it but once it is placed on my screen and I click it it just says "cannot connect to google assistant". This could be a great app of it actually worked.

  108. Billi Morgan-avatar

    Billi Morgan

Excellent being able to simplify voice actions and routines down to a single click. Feedback I'd give would be auto minimise the Google assistant overlay once it has sent it's command. And a dark mode version for the action blocks.

  109. Andrew Bailey-avatar

    Andrew Bailey

Desperately needs to run in the background instead of opening Google Assistant and leaving it open. Would also benefit from a bigger Symbols library. It would be cool to allow third parties to create Symbol packs.

  110. Gian Carlo Saldito-avatar

    Gian Carlo Saldito

The app is very useful and I love the way the shortcuts can be customized. But please add a Dark Mode feature and the widgets looks pleasing if it doesn't have sharp edges... roundes squares is nice. More support to this app.

All it does is substitutes Google's voice for my voice in the Google Assistant app. Also, it get stuck in the options that Google Assistant needs before it can complete a task. Not very useful so far. Tasker does a far better job.
