Getting Started

This document will help you get started with the Modern release of Touch Modern Air Power. The instructions here are associated with the Getting Started scenario. You can display this help file at any time by selecting the Getting Started option from the Help Menu at the bottom of the screen.

You interact with the Main Chart at the top of the screen using these gestures:

You interact with the Flight Information Area at the bottom of the screen using these gestures:

When the scenario first begins, you'll see a flight of F-22s on the Main Chart surrounded by a red circle with a picture of that aircraft in the Flight Information Area. You also have a flight of F-15s that are at the air base nearby.

To see the flight of F-15s, double tap the airbase icon shown here. This will show you a list of flights at the air base. Select the flight of F-15s and it will appear in the Flight Information Area. Tapping the flight of F-22s on the Main Chart will return them to the Flight Information Area.

Your target in this scenario is an enemy nuclear facility that is to your northwest on the Main Chart as seen here. You want to use your flight of F-15s to bomb that facility and inflict as much damage as you can on it. Your F-22s will provide escort and can be used to protect your F-15s against enemy fighters. The enemy air base shown here is where the enemy fighters will scramble from and so you should watch it closely. Also be aware than intelligence has determined that there is an enemy SAM site protecting the nuclear facility which currently is unseen by your assets but may become visible as the scenario progresses.

You need to issue two orders for your flights, one for the F-15 flight to attack the nuclear facility and another for your F-22 flight to escort the strike. Let's start with the F-15 flight. Double tap the air base icon on the Main Chart and select the flight of F-15s so that it appears in the Flight Information Area. To issue an order for the flight, do the following:

In the same way, tap on the flight of F22s to select them, then press the Main Chart towards the northwest and hold your finger on the screen for about 1/2 second. When you release it you will create a Fly To order for the F22s.

Now you are ready to start the simulation. You have the option of running the simulation from 1x real-time up to 10x. To get started, a run-time of 4x is a good pace. You should notice your flights proceeding to the northwest based on the orders you gave them. If you want to, you can speed up the run time initially, but be ready to slow or pause the game when the action starts.

At this point the most important task you have is to use your F-22s to intercept any enemy fighters that scramble from their air base. If you see a red icon appear as in this image, then fly your F-22s toward them. Your missiles will automatically fire when you are in range of the enemy fighters.

It is also possible for you to issue an Intercept order to your F-22s which will cause them to pursue the enemy fighters wherever they go. To do this, first select the flight of F-22s by tapping on their icon on the Main Chart. Then press your finger in an empty spot on the Main Chart, hold it there for 1/2 second, then drag your finger over the enemy flight and let go. This will give your F-22s the order to intercept the enemy flight.

Watch the victory indicator in the lower right hand corner of the Main Chart. Initially it will be all red, but as you make progress in the scenario, it should start to become blue as you see here. If the blue flag appears as in this example, then you are winning a Minor Victory. If the entire bar becomes blue, then you have won a Major Victory.
