Yuka scans food & personal care products to decipher their ingredients and evaluate their impact on your health.

In a world of incomprehensible labels, Yuka provides clarity in one quick scan so you can make clear-sighted purchases.

Yuka uses a simple color code to inform you of the product's impact on your health: excellent, good, mediocre, or poor. You can access a detailed info page for each product, to help you understand its grade.

◆ 600,000 FOOD PRODUCTS ◆

Every product is evaluated according to 3 objective criteria: nutritional value, additives, and the organic dimension of the product.

The scoring method relies on analyzing all of the product's ingredients. Every ingredient is assigned a level of risk, based on current scientific research.

For any product with a negative grade, Yuka will recommend in total independence a similar product that's better for your health as an alternative.

Yuka is a 100% independent application. This means that product evaluations and recommendations are completely objective: no brand or manufacturer can influence them in one way or another. In addition, the application does not advertise. Find out more about our funding on our website.

Very nice app. Helpful. Informative. Planning to use it during my shopping to make better choices.

  2. Angela Badoiu-avatar

Slightly annoyed with the app. I paid for the subscription, as it said you'd have access to search for all the products without having to scan them. Well, it doesn't seem to work. I searched for several products by name and brand, not found. But when I scanned the var code, the results were available. So why make us pay for a service that doesn't deliver? Be honest about it, it's not the price, it's the ethics.

  3. Keiko K-avatar

Tried to use for a few months but still don't like it. All I scan is bad or poor because additives and salt are priority for this app and I don't care about those. You need to scroll down and find that everything else is great. I want to know if the mix between ALL ingredients is healthy, good or bad. So unless one can choose what's important for THEM I will uninstall and use other apps.

  4. marah holland-avatar

Really nice app, just wish you could buy a monthly not a yearly subscription.

  5. Tessa Russell-avatar

I thought this app may be better than ThinkDirty but it's not. I've scanned 4 things and of those 4 only 1 was already in the library. The other 3 I had to take pictures and so far it's given a wait time of 4 hours.... It took 4 days for the first to come through. Overall though, the app is very easy to use

  6. Cal Alaera-avatar

Wasn't even able to sign up, I typed my email address and it just said "Incorrect email address". So, to make sure, I copied it from my email app, pasted it in, and still this app said it was incorrect. It didn't even try to send me an email. Useless.

  7. Amber D-avatar

Skincare fanatics; this app is not for you. The app rates cosmetics based on the 'potential risk' of certain ingredients, but in a complete biased opinion. I came across many bad skincare products filled with denatured alcohol and perfume high on the ingredient list that got a 100/100 rating.. Please revise your idea of 'good' and 'bad' please!

  8. Caitin Haswell-avatar

Absolutely no fault, I LOVE, LOVE LOVE this app!! It has helped unlock soo much information that's been hidden from me for years. Thank you so much Yuka, you've helped me live a happier and healthier life. - Caitlin. H

  9. J Oliver-avatar

There is only an option to scan; no searching!? They make you do the work by entering in missing products. Also, it doesn't tell me how to remove my account and data.

  10. Daniel Roy-avatar

Essential for anyone who cares about what they eat! With just a quick scan of any food or drink item's bar code it tells you what you need to know about it. Does it have too much sugar or salt? Any dangerous preservatives? It even makes suggestions for healthier alternatives. Love it. I can see myself using this every time I go shopping for years to come.

  11. Sofia G-avatar

Great app! Really useful and needed so that we have greater awareness of what we eat.

  12. Molly Barton-avatar

Nice app which is easy to use. I just wish it would give detail about whether or not the product contains animal products and whether it is cruelty free.

  13. sam ebrahimi-avatar

Great app! I changed my eating habits based in this! I was eating so much junk. Thank you Yuka!

  14. Ava Riv.-avatar

This app is great motivation for me to eat healthier foods!

  15. Luc Esplin-avatar

Great app! Easy to use and great info on there

  16. Jaclyn Walsh-avatar

Overall I enjoy this app. However, my biggest concern is when I scanned a type of protein bar it told me it was a poor choice but it gave me better recommendations. One of the recommendations was a "RX bar chocolate coconut protein". It said it was rated 90/100 and an excellent choice. Later I went to scan that exact RX bar the app recommended and it was rated a poor choice at 39/100. Makes me nervous about what other mess ups there are.

  17. amada ero-avatar

So this app is a good app because l use it for gym like things l was eating so anything l was eating the app juste show me the good food and bad food so l eat the good food and l reduced.

  18. Ashkan Ahmadi-avatar

Great app. Missing Compare feature. Sometimes I pick up two similar items (for example two types of milk) and although I can scan and analyze each, it would be great if there was a Compare feature where I could scan two items and it would show me their analysis side by side. Right now, I have to memorize the numbers of one and then compare to the other one. Thanks

  19. Angela Y-avatar

Just installed the app, scaned a few items, I keep getting a message: the product's language is not supported. I don't know if it is because I use English and the products are puchased in French speaking countries. I searched everywhere in the app and couldn't find a language settings in this app, please fix this, thanks.

  20. Cec-avatar

Pretty annoying to have to enter the data yourself whenever you scan something, when the original purpose of the app is to provide the kind of info it's asking you to input. I really don't find any added value within this app compared to others such as MyFitnessPal. If the main argument is "well our service is free" then you did not target your audience properly. Currently, this app is a waste of time.

  21. Ashley Butcher-avatar

Since the app requires you to sign up, either by email or Facebook, it's not for me. Since the reason stated previously for this is just so you can have a history,it seems illogical to me that there can't be an option to continue without signing in unless there really is some more data capture going on behind the scenes. What a shame.

  22. AntwanFuzznips-avatar

I really appreciate the concept. More people need to read labels and understand what is in the products they consume. However, i became frustrated with this app. Out of the 12 things i scanned only one was already in the database. Common branded toothpastes werent even listed? Update product list so i dont have to manually enter everything i use.

  23. Thibaut Lambrey de Souza-avatar

    Thibaut Lambrey de Souza

Very good so far. One bad point: when deleting an entry it does not delete the photo, and I cannot find the folder in my phone where the photos are stored to delete manually. Can you please include an option to delete media/photos associated to each entry to avoid clogging up phone memory?

  24. Diana Samson-avatar

I love this app! When you add a product you have the result in less than 12h and It's very informative, providing links with the source of the infornation regarding the ingredients (cosmetics) I also really appreciate the feature with recommendations for alternative healthier products!! Definitely deserve 5 🌟!!

  25. Angel-avatar

Several languages not supported. For example, french installation does not show German products. WHY? I want to be able to select what I can and I cant see. What if I travel? If this is fixed then I am considering premium. Why some ingredients are bad? Some background knowledge would help. Also the licensing model is somehow strange. You are charged for the whole year. What if I want to test one month? Search only for premium, but I cant see what search brings. Needs general improvement.

  26. Krista Burte-avatar

Don't waste your time with this app. 95% of the products I scanned were not in their system. I really don't want to have to add everything I scan to be registered. I understand not all products will be in the system but out of the 18 things I scanned only actually came up. Frustrating.

  27. Jacqueline Hall-avatar

    Jacqueline Hall

Amazing. Provides much confidence when shopping and selecting produces, as a mum, this is crucial. it is also fun to check out all the beauty products and food in your cupboards! Hoping that it will increase my knowledge of components too.

  28. rog-avatar

Dangerous app. They recommend sunscreen Aptonia from Decathlon with ingredients that are not true. On their score is Good, but this product has Octocrylene which is a high risk ingredient they score bad on other sunscreens brands. I have sent emails but they dont fix this. Their database is not reliable. Beware. El Coco app is much better.

  29. Raffi cgi-avatar

Great app, gives you a new perspective of what you eat and alot of useful info on harmful chemicals found in your daily products. Just be sure to use it with reason and not have it as your "product" bible.

  30. Carla Marie-avatar

It's a nice app but there are too many products that aren't listed so I can only get the info 1/4 of the time

  31. John Smith-avatar

What's the point of signing in with email-I wouldn't even touch Facebook-if it's a phone app which you can only install by having a Google (or Apple,I suppose) account? More stars when you justify it. Your reply is idiotic: I'm signed in with Android. The first part is just cut/paste from any website

  32. Alf Onico-avatar

Suggestion to developpers: for the additives, add a link to a site describing the negative impacts of the additive. No adds. Free. Fast scans. Good info. Keeps info of scanned items. Proposes alternative products.

  33. Alejandro Alguacil-avatar

    Alejandro Alguacil

It's my most important app when I go to the supermarket.

Excellent tool for day to day. I was surprised of how different can nutritional values be from to quite similar products. Now I can choose the healthier product and this will make good makers become better

  36. Remo MORO-avatar

A very interesting and useful app. Above all the comparison and suggestions with better products.

  37. Eric Orillat-avatar

Great app to check out the ingredient and general healthiness level of almost any food product in shops. I constantly use it while grocery shopping.

  39. Francisco Verenciano-avatar

    Francisco Verenciano

Very good and easy to use app scoring healthy food and health products (scans barcode) giving alternatives if not.

  40. Sergio Busato-avatar

Very helpful to find the best products for you according to what ingredients you wish to avoid

  41. Ioan Rusu-avatar

I bought premium but offline mode still doesn't work and it only downloads about 15mb out of 50, why?

  42. Eva Gomes-avatar

Love the app! Only thing missing: information, whether a cosmetics brand is cruelty free or not!

  43. Orlaith Finn-avatar

Absolutely love this app !! Makes me question what I buy and helps me take care of my health. Thank you

  44. Stanislas Laurent-avatar

The loading issues were actually AdGuards fault, so 5 stars. Salt and Honey analysis is a nice bonus

  45. Ivan Gutierrez-avatar

  48. Vladimir Steiner-avatar

    Vladimir Steiner

It's a great app, it has quickly become a habit to use while grocery shopping

  49. Michael Hooper-avatar

Fantastic app. Amazing to learn about the harmful things in many products. Highly recommended

  50. Sofia M-avatar

Amazing! It changed my life and it's sad to find out that these big brands out there don't care if the components they use will cause cancer or any other harm. They only care about selling and making money!!! I hope it becomes available in every country or with products from other countries sold in the UK. I also hope that improves with all the stuff already sold here. Some of them it does not recognise. Thanks once again for making my life better.

  51. Delphine Maren-avatar

Love this app. Use it everyday!

  52. Ainara Eguidazu-avatar

    Ainara Eguidazu

Very helpful way of identifying harmful ingredients that otherwise go into your food or cosmetic products inadvertently

  53. John Smith-avatar

Very convenient app, potentially life saver. Yet how can products be rated as excellent despite having potential carcirogen additives listed? (Ie sensodyne) i have thrown 5eur to trash due to this.

  54. Sven Leifsson-avatar

Great app! Should give more information about the additives

  55. vince b-avatar

works well, doesn't force adds on you, gives you a general idea about the product you are about to buy

It seems to be informative but does not recognize like anything. Is there anything jn the database? Bored so quick with it. Useless.

The app forces you to create an account.. what if I don't want to give you my email ? Uninstalled. Answers to Yuka's comments below: 1) You don't need an account to store data locally on Smartphones. SQLite or other databases (relational and non-relational) work fine. An account would make sense if you want to "permanently" store data, in case you change your Smartphone. Scan history is not unlimited anyway. 2) Then why not forcing the account creation, only for people that want to contribute ?

  60. Ahmed Alghamdi-avatar

5 stars with a big fat smile. Keep up the fantastic work, guys.

  61. stuart edwards-avatar

Early days but no problems, can only see it getting better

  62. patriotsongs-avatar

The last thing I want is to have to sign in to an app. This is supposed to be a scanner so why do I need to identify who I am? As soon as it asked me for login, I deleted the app.

  63. Lena Kuzner-avatar

Really useful app! I have scanned all my items at home and I'm surprised that some of them has not good ingredients as I thought . It is useful that app shows alternatives (and I hope in future it will show more alternatives).

    Alexandros Frnagiadoulis

Amazing application, even if you thought that you know a lot about the things that you consuming z this up helps you to understand more! Just scan your shampoo and check how many chemicals you are putting to your head without knowing!

  65. Flower Thistle-avatar

None of the items I've scanned show up in the database. :( I purchase and use very common items so there should not be such a lack of information in the database for everyday items and extremely common/popular brands available at most major retailers

  66. Diego Villaron-avatar

I like the way it's rating the products

  67. Jordan Hicks-avatar

Some false/outdated claims made with certain ingredients, especially artificial sweeteners like Aspartame ("suspected of promoting the risk of cancer", even though numerous studies have found no association, and the EFSA, who they cite, actually support the position of no link and have done since at least 2013).

  68. Bernard A-avatar

Great way to check if a product is healthy. The subscription is a kind idea but pretty expensive just to have the offline Modus. I canceled the subscription for next year, 100mb for the data (without pictures) is too much for my use. And the update for offline use lasts ages .my last update runs already 4 hours .this cannot be ...

  69. Bruno Greco-avatar

Useless you can scan 1 out of 12 items if ...

  70. Jesús Rodríguez-avatar

    Jesús Rodríguez

Recommended in general. Easy to use and really useful. However, even though the process to add unknown products seems easy and straightforward, there's a big but, identifying ingredients from a rounded shape taking two pictures returns disappointing results. My camera app takes much better pictures of close objects than Yuka's. In addition, important parts of the previewed pictures get cropped automatically. Please consider investing more resources in improving this aspect.

Useful to avoid having to decipher the list of ingredients on items, and check for harmful additives. However I find the ratings are very biased, and mostly exclusively dedicated to overweight people . For example, I'm underweight, so not bent on losing weight and the glucides rate in my blood is under average, so I get annoyed when I see a product rated as mediocre/poor, not because it contains harmful additives but due to being "too sweet" or "too salty". Too single minded.

  74. Ian Kensington-avatar

Excellent impartial and detailed health and safety advice on a myriad of products with some useful suggestions on alternatives. Refers to scientific research articles to back up evaluations. While the free version is already excellent, I recommend to upgrade to the reasonably priced premium version to support the developers and also for the ability to use offline and build up a list of favourite items. I never shop without this app now and can't rate it highly enough!

  75. Vincent A-avatar

Buy or not is better. Yukka miss often some bad ingredients !

  76. Alexandre Teixeira-avatar

    Alexandre Teixeira

Nice and easy to use but the scoring is not very scientific... They ignore one of the basic principals of toxicology that "the dose makes the poison" i.e. they don't account for how much ingredient is in the product.. if you were to follow there advice then you also shouldn't eat apple's or pears because they contain formaldehyde!! Also they classify MSG (an amino acid!!) and Aspartame as high risk when there is no scientific evidence to support this...

  77. Jane Shaw-avatar

The app itself is great but I paid to subscribe and it still doesn't work in shops. I've given up altogether now because it keeps wanting me to sign in and then doesn’t recognise my password and wants me choose a new password and then that one doesn't work. So I won't be paying again next year.

i Love the app. its quick, enables users to add products and gets uploaded after validation, gives alternatives to poor quality products.. I would like if the developers can add a feature of adding a 'note' or something to a product so that users can add information like price or something for their info.

  79. Yurii Horwight-avatar

bug1: if you make a change according to the valid info and you capture that table of nutrition values that looks different from one the app used to parse you won't be able to commit it. bug2: when you make a picture, crop it and then want to get back to recapture it will return to the edit page with picture loading forever. removed the app because of the bugs and wrong or absent info of products

Good idea but recommendations for similar products seem highly BIASED depending on brands. Reply: This is my experience and not only with one product but after seeing this pattern repeatedly, I decided to post my comment. I understand apps developer's reply is genuine, but the matter of fact is that more often than expected one can find different ratings for VERY similar products. I can provide a few examples if needed.

  83. Tatiana Sato-avatar

I loved the app! Ever since I've starting using it, I have scanned most of the products inside my bathroom and fridge. Mainly I thought it super interesting for the options if gives to replace the poor/bad products.

  84. Don France-avatar

Great app. A score indicating what the buying public thinks of the result would be a nice extra. Otherwise great for what it does.

  85. claire b-avatar

good app, but it would be nice to have prices on the recommended products. and there should also be better suggestions because sometimes they propose hair gel instead of hairspray.

  86. David Robson-avatar

The application will not run without my email and password or my Facebook account. I do not want to provide either. I could understand if the appication wanted my name, but not my email and definitely not my password. If it's to finance development, I'm happy to pay a few dolars once I've tested. Uninstalling.

Very useful the app everyone was asking for. I think can be improved by making possible to personalize adding your personal allergies or special diets. And the location of the production to boost the local consumption.

I think it's a fantastic app. I would give it 5 stars but it's not recognising many own brand products like sainsburys and waitrose...Once it does it will deserve 5 stars. It's really amazing.

  94. Arturo Cortijo-avatar

Apps like this one (independent, altruistic, informative, absolute useful, and ethical with user data) are very difficult to find. A true treasure!

  95. Mireia-avatar

It's excellent. In order to be perfect I would love if the app could consider containers as well (i.e. cans which might contain bisfenol vs glass containers, etc)

I love the application, but to make it much more satisfactory, I would love to see if the product is vegetarian or vegan. It is a small gesture that saves many hours of purchase.
