Google Play Reviews

Overall, I really like this app. Great selections of music, ability to download songs to play offline and the abilities to make playlists (though i am actually to lazy to do this). Improvements needed, or things I have not figured out how to do: 1 - the ability to easily find duplicate songs in a playlists 2 - the ability to sort music alphabetically by song title, album or artist. I am able to do this with my Google music app 3 - the ability to permanently delete a song from a playlist while it is playing, not just remove it from the queue

  2. Simon Iversen-avatar

apk Worse than the Play Music app, which was already bad. Doesn't seem to add anything new. Instead, some things are worse: - There's no way to scroll a long list anymore, it loads in chunks and there is no scrollbar. - Interface is ugly, looks like it's made by children, for children. - No way to listen to a specific artist, without also listening to songs you have removed from your library. I could go on, but I'm running out of space. Never been closer to cancelling my subscription than I am now.

  3. Alex Pirseyedi-avatar

apk download It would be nice to be able to organize downloads in playlists instead of having them all in a long linear list based on their download time only. I (as I'm sure many others) like different genres of music and my download list is now a hodge-podge of different types of music instead of being able to listen to a group in the same category. You'd think this would be a basic function mid 2020. And yes, I know online playlists exist, but I'm referring specifically to downloads.

  4. Thierry F.-avatar

download My overall experience with the app has been good. Not great, just good because of 2 features that changes my whole experience. 1) Single repeat a song while streaming to Google home (mini in my case). 2) Repeat a playlist while streaming to Google home (mini still). I use both features a LOT and it's a shame that they are missing on this app. Google music had it so I don't understand the logic behind removing them.

  5. Sergey-avatar

app Getting better and better, especially after the most recent new updates. However, YTM still needs a significant amount of work. Particularly when it comes to app stability and performance. Lyrics is still not available for most songs. Desperately needs "swipe" music track gestures (forward / backward). Starting to see it's potential, just needs far more attention to detail. Finally see the light at the end of the tunnel with YTM. Only took two years to here, so I suppose it's better than never.

  6. Joe Dondaneau-avatar

youtube music stream songs music videos Absolutely horrible replacement for GPM at this point. Why you would release an app with LESS feature then the previous one is beyond me. I have tried to switch to this app a few times now and I always end up back on GPM. It is not as intuitive, it's full of bugs and it is a PITA to use. I don't want to watch music videos, I am so fed up with the music just randomly pausing for no reason, it won't auto play when it connects to my car like GPM always has and it keeps telling me I need to connect to WiFi to stream music I HAVE DOWNLOADED. This app is literally trash and if there are not SERIOUS improvements made by the time GPM is phased out then I will just go elsewhere and cancel my sub.

  7. Won Ju-avatar

    - apps on google play Disappointing. As a Play Music user, the forced switch is not a surprise. But YTM just feels like a cheap copy of Spotify at this point. Crucially, the app is missing fundamental functionalities like persistence and song info display (stock Pixel 3 and 2019 MBUX). As an earlier review mentioned, I like Play Music because of the "old school" UI. If I wanted a Spotify-style UI/UX then I would use Spotify. In fact, this is probably what I'll do, reluctantly, if and when they pull the plug on PM.

  8. Mark Trejo-avatar

تحميل It's a great app but the YouTube algorithm I think it uses to figure out what music I like is weird. It always plays the same song over and over which is great sometimes but sometimes you want to hear different music can you put on the station but then that's all that gives you the same song. But other than that it's really good.

  9. Jason Kent-avatar

Modern looking, but functionally limited. Even if/when I'm able to transfer my library to the app, I am not sure if I'll be completely fine with the move. Google Music way of organizing your music just makes a lot more sense. Something about the way you go about navigating your music just feels off. I'm not even sure how to explain it. I mostly hang around for ad-free YouTube at this point. If these two ever get ever get separated at some point, I'll most likely be out.

  10. Tim R-avatar

App doesn't run in the background it has to be active to use like YouTube. I do not like the dark theme, no option to change to a light theme. If you select a single song to play it will be followed by "suggested songs". There is a toggle to turn this off but it is not intuitive. The app will try to play videos instead of songs, you can turn this off but again it's hidden. Too much wasted space in the interface, there seems to be no way to clear the music queue? Shuffle is complete garbage.

  11. Dinkles-avatar

I switched to YouTube Music from Spotify. And I can never go back. Both apps do have their flaws, yes, but honestly I feel as though YouTube Music is an overall better experience. One feature I do want to suggest is on a shuffle or playlist, display the previously played song's album art as well as the upcoming song to be played. That way you know what's coming next. I do like the current up next feature, although I do wish YTM would add that feature in the future.

  12. Karan Bhatia-avatar

UPDATE June 2020: I must say, this has gotten a lot better overtime, especially recommendations. UI has also seen a significant overhaul in the last year. While it's still far from where Spotify is today, they're headed in the right direction. One thing where YT music beats Spotify hands down is in it's library of International music. Giving it 4 stars! Original review: For the love of God, stop recommending the same songs over and over again!

  13. Richelle P-avatar

I thought I'd give this app a chance after finding out GPM was shutting down, It was a mistake. If you want to do anything you have to subscribe. You can't cast audio without a subscription, you can't listen to your music offline without a subscription. I don't want a subscription I just want to listen to my music on my google home, but now I can't. The home page is a mess of music I'm not interested in and all my radio stations that I loved are playlists that are jumbled into one huge mess.

  14. Emanuel Macina-avatar

Clearing the recent apps, shouldn't also stop the music. The app isn't bad at all, but the fact that the music goes whenever I hit the "close all" button from the recent apps screen... this thing it's annoying...very annoying. Just do something about it. Makes it impossible for me to use it as 9 out of 10 I need to reopen it and start the music again. And again and again and again and again...and so on. .

  15. Brett Meesen-avatar

I wouldn't have this app if Google wasn't getting rid of Play Music. I think this app is not fully ready to replace what most of us are probably used to. If you get all your music from YouTube, it's actually not bad. For me, it's a big drawback that you can't merge your uploads and YouTube music into the same library. It also seems that it doesn't use uploaded music to recommend other music. I don't always use the same apps to get music, so it doesn't really work for me.

  16. Barbara Perry-avatar

It needs to be brought into the 21st century. My Google Music Library of over 10k songs and playlists transferred over, but many are dupes. I know they weren't like that in Google because Google would alert you that a song was already there. I had asked about alphabetizing songs in my playlists (some have between 500 - 1000 songs) and was told they don't have that feature yet (we're in 2020, folks. How hard is it to add a sort a-z feature and why is it not there?)

  17. Craig Palme-avatar

Lacking in a lot of areas compared to GPM. One plus are the downloads at the normal settings seem to take up drive space. The downloads though are separated between YTM and the device, so you can't see them all in one listing. When you click on a saved artist, it doesn't list what you have either on the device or YTM. It's kind of a pain. I would say it's not ready for prime time.

  18. Jimmer NZ-avatar

Not a fan; forced to use this as Google are planning on phasing out Google Music, which is great. I like to purchase an album and songs then listen whenever and where ever I choose. This app is obviously aimed at streaming and wants to pick music for you....how annoying! Another down side is now I have to sift through my music each time I want to look on YouTube. Soon I won't have to make any choices about anything as Google will have done it all for me (based on something I watched a week ago...).

  19. Alex Kogon-avatar

Basic features such as searching through downloaded songs while offline are missing. A great deal of unnecessary communication through the server is required to interact with your library, wasting your limited mobile data, and greatly reducing the utility of the service you are paying for. One can only imagine this is by design as even when you have paid them for the service they still just want to mine your data.

  20. Craig Marston-avatar

This is not a replacement for GPM. The interface is poor, slow and seems to buffer a lot. The search offers such a bad experience considering this is made by Google. It's not organised in a logical way, for example if I go to an artist I would like to see a list of albums, not a list of songs - even if they are in order. In short I can't get to the music I want quickly and easily. GPM is not the best app in the world but it's so much better than this.

  21. D-Rock Esquire-avatar

    1. I miss my curated new releases section from Google Music. It used to be a tight group of relevant recommendations, now i have to look through 50 new releases each week to find anything of interest. 2. I miss being able to see how many times I've listened to a song. YT Music is a huge step down from Google Music, in general. It even looks aesthetically worse.

  22. Gavin Richards-avatar

Would not recommend. I have just transferred from Goggle Play Music to YouTube music and already I want to go back. Moving all my music over was fine, but working the app is really difficult. When I try and search, my songs aren't showing up; it is not clear or obvious where my music sits as Premium and music I don't own is always pushed first. In the end, I resorted to scrolling through my library which is IMPOSSIBLE. There is no fast scroll, so I manually had to scroll to W (the first letter of my chosen album) and I have 13000+ songs in god knows how many albums so this took a long time. Then when I want to play the music that *I have already purchased on CD and then uploaded* I have to sit through adverts! I understand why adverts are there, but why is my music interrupted when I have already paid for it? Also, the video for released songs is the default, so i have to listen to that instead, like a TV as some videos have intro of a few minutes before the actual track starts. The album art doesn't always show, and there is no way to edit any data or artwork. Settings are hard to find as the general interface doesn't make sense and the layout is confusing. I'm dreading when Goggle Play Music is discontinued as this player is almost the opposite of what I want: an app that just plays the music I have bought over the past 30 years. That's it. That's what I want. Just that.

Revised review after some days of usage: after being a subscriber to Play Music for many years, I'm no being asked to use this here. Unfortunately, especially compared to Play Music, this app here is a complete desaster. It looks like an attempt by the developers to show the world how much worse they are in developing applications thatn their colleagues who had been workin on Play Music. This is the only task in which they succeded. 1. Uploaded albums don't show up in the list of albums of the artist. But in some cases unrelated albums show up or lots of "albums" which appear to be single songs... basically a real album split into many separate albums with one song each. This alone makes this app almost impossible. 2. The search results are very badly layed out. I mean, seriously, guys, don't you have any UI designers or people who even remotely know anything about usability? 3. Yes, you really need a light them. In fact, if you had anyone working on this who knows anything about user interfaces and human perception, you would know that light themes put a lot less strain on humans and thus should be the default. 4. Even on tablets, the app always stays in portrait mode. Apparently it doesn't support landscape mode at all. Are you serious? Have you even tried to look at your own interface design guidelines? And the depressing bit is that all this is working fine on Play Music. The amount of incompetence displayed here makes me think that the only reason for having us switch to this app is that you want to get rid of your paying customers.

  24. J. Swish-avatar

Fix the customization ability to playlist. It's a joke we can't organize them by song title. It's 2020 Google, I don't understand how no one thought of that... Unless you all don't even use your own apps. The fact that it lets you add duplicates without notifying you is a joke, then it takes forever to even find them because you can't sort your playlist by song titles. Fix your app.

  25. Mark Nidenko-avatar

Useless when streaming at home. I can't believe that you are killing Google music for this. The minute I start streaming to a device connected to Google home I can't see the play list. The interface is clunky and the recommendations are iffy at best. This is really frustrating, I hope I see progress before my next bill, otherwise I'll subscribe elsewhere

I switched over from play music so I had alot of songs, there is no option to download all for offline listening, but you can download playlists, but you can't multi select songs to add to the playlist (or download). So if you want to download your songs you have to download them 1 by 1 (find song>options>download). The "download" button is right below the "remove from library" button, so get ready to lose some songs in the process, because there is no undo like there was in google play music.

If this is an upgrade from Google Play Music then I'm sorry but you've failed miserably. GPM was fine. Moved my library over and it's all messed up and unorganised. For example you can't select an Artist and see all their albums like you could in GPM. And to upload new music you've made it way harder than necessary. I'm sorry but I'm never paying to use a service to listen to music I've already paid for! Make it more like GPM was and then I'll be interested or just keep GPM. It works fine as is!

  28. Albert Issa-avatar

Only signed up for the free trial. There is hope but I'm using a Google pixel 4 and it's just one app. I can't find a separate app for music and switching between YouTube and the music and it can get very confusing. When you play a song on the music app, the box pops up and that's annoying. You want it to just appear at the bottom. It just doesn't feel as intuitive as I am used to from Google products

  29. Ashley Bell-avatar

Once you have YouTube music premium it's hard to go back to any Music app. It's always been my favorite Music app and I have tried many others. Whorth every bit of the $10 a month it cost. I have the family plan and have added all my favorite friends and family which is only an extra $5 a month so it's much more reasonable than all 5 people paying $10. Very User friendly.

  30. Daslynnter-avatar

music mixes are repetitive, and boring, just use youtube. music is pulled from youtube exclusively, so i cant listen to JIMI HENDRIX. Just use play music. until that gets axed cus google realized people will pay monthly to get what was free. the music has no filter from youtube, so you'll inevitably randomly listen to some pirated low quality music. This offers no benefit above youtube or google play music, and when GPM goes down im just listening to my music on vlc.

  31. VoyagerUte-avatar

Not really a "Premium" experience. The UI is confusing and you can't choose to shuffle a playlist once you are already listening to part of it (I like starting a shuffle on a particular song, but it's impossible with this). Additionally the "Desktop Application" IS NOT what you are thinking it is. It's not like Spotify at all. It's just a dedicated Chrome tab that sticks around in your start menu that you can't even cast from (seriously....). Half baked in general.

  32. kovidomi 0207-avatar

Lots of songs are unavailable, even songs that were available prior to deciding that it can't be played. Downloading songs to make sure they won't become unavailable is pointless, since youtube will delete it anyway. Making playlists is a hassle if you aren't connected to the internet, even though one of the selling points is that it can play music offline. There was a feature to stop the music and just browse but now even that is removed, so you can't just refresh a playlist that way. The app just gets worse and worse as time goes, and the available music becomes less instead of more somehow.

  33. A Google user-avatar

Horrible search and integration with other Google products like home and auto. Clunky playlist and repetitive playback. Please allow shuffle to shuffle all, not just the most recent things I've liked. It becomes repetitive really quickly. The equalizer settings no longer work. Can't get my Google home speaker to play my liked songs playlist in a shuffled order with voice command or any of my created playlists. Complete trash!

  34. Yulia Potekhina-avatar

    Yulia Potekhina

Horrible and buggy. Randomly pauses mid-song and freezes for a while, about 30% of the time it finishes the song, gets onto the next one and pauses it at a first few seconds, always when I'm driving, doesn't respond to "play" button on the car screen, I have to take the phone out and press "play" on the phone itself otherwise it won't work. Songs are sorted not alphabetically by song but SONGS are sorted by the ARTIST alphabetically which defeats the purpose of the "songs" tab. Widget also buggy

  35. Dave Alexander-avatar

The migration from Google Play Music is building up, as my libraries/uploads and billing have now switched to YTM. Sound quality seems about the same, possibly slightly inferior. The user interface is functional, if not a bit dull. The big disappointment is the frequency of grayed out tracks e.g. track 2 of the first Eagles album. And worse, that album is no longer on GPM. Jury's out, and time will tell. Not thrilled.

  36. Ashley McMahon-avatar

I only downloaded this because Google Play Music (which I loved) is shutting down so I transferred my music so I wouldn't lose it all. I am not a fan of the set up and how it organized my playlists and the stations all together, making it difficult to find what I'm looking for. I also didn't like that I had to transfer my podcasts to a separate app instead of it all being together and organized and categorized in an efficient and clean looking manner.

  37. Mike Taboryski-avatar

My music is not my music anymore. I paid for a few full length albums on the old Google Play Music app. It was cool, I could listen as I pleased with no interruptions. Now that I've been forced to migrate to You Tube Music I have to suffer through ads in my music that I AREADY PAID FOR! If I want to switch apps and keep my music playing (don't forget I'm talking about albums I've already purchased) I would have to upgrade to a monthly subscription. Really disappointed in Google!

  38. John Dillon-avatar

Like the expanded library. Astounded that there's no way to properly browse it. Totally unusable. No scroll bar, no way to search only my library or only downloaded titles, no ability to scroll by album art (since the image is miniscule). Most of this you can do with GPM but not the replacement for it? Mere months away from being forced to use said replacement? Like I said, in its current state, totally unusable for anyone with more than a dozen albums or artists in their library. Disappointed

  39. Mark Saunders-avatar

Please fix this broken app. Radio doesn't work anywhere near as good as on Google Play. When you search for artists or albums on Google Play you get a comprehensive list and can usually find what you're looking for no matter how obscure, not the case with YouTube Music. Unless you bring this appalling app more in line with Google Play you will most likely lose a lot of subscribers, including me. I don't like moaning about apps but you will be forcing us to use this garbage later this year :(

  40. Bill-avatar

Compared to Google Play Music it's a major step backwards. User interface is basic & counterintuitive - it's just a vehicle to push potential purchases at me. I just want it to default to album/artist view of my uploads, I'm not interested in your suggested playlists! UPDATE: *WHAT!?* to listen to my own music with the screen off or while using another app I have to pay you for premium!? Are you kidding?? Uninstalled!

  41. Thelonius-avatar

I really tried to give this app a chance since GPM is going away. The whole navigation system and UI of this app runs counter to how I like to browse music. Recently played on GPM was perfect. History on YTM is tedious to browse. The only reason I haven't cancelled my subscription is because I listen to so much YouTube in the background in my daily life and I like having access to a huge library of songs on demand. Google should have just added video playback to the existing GPM app.

  42. Marc Hoogstad-avatar

Overall a bad replacement for GPM. Correct metadata in GPM changed in YTM, and is no longer organized properly. I can't find my albums! EDIT. 3 days in, what a mess. Album sorting takes forever to load. Some files don't have any metadata at all. Artist sorting only shows a small handful of my collection, and doesn't show albums. Casting works only for premium accounts?! This app is a disaster compared to GPM.

Long pauses with music on my phone I heard that Google Play Music is going away to be replaced by YouTube Music so I thought I would give it a try. I didn't have any problems streaming music but when I tried to play music stored on the phone there is a long pauses (30-60 seconds) and sometimes the first few seconds of the new song do not play. Anything that needs to be done should be done in the background while some other song is playing. I am going to look for some other way to play music.

  44. mannyo1221-avatar

Thought I would give this a go because of the forced switch from the perfectly good play music Cant believe how bad the interface is, and how difficult it is to find a whole album. I don't want videos, just music, the search and UI are a minefield to navigate. Things that spotify offer on their free service you need to pay for with this. As it stands I will not be renewing my monthly sub, I am currently trying spotify and that is soo much better, easier to find albums by artists, background play. Just what a music app should be. A truly terrible decision by google, forcing users to youtube music in an attempt to make a terrible service more popular. Just like the now defunct google+ for youtube comments.

  45. Jon Sykes-avatar

Terrible. Can't cast to Chromecast audio Downloaded music on my phone has to be downloaded again, this alleged replacement for Play Music can't access those downloads. Downloaded songs get dumped in a download folder and can't be viewed alongside uploads Downloaded albums can't be played from the Albums screen without a network connection, even though the tracks are on the bloody phone. Downloaded albums can't be searched without a network connection.Oh wait, they cannot be searched AT ALL. Only YT Music and uploads can be searched. Viewing by artists doesn't show albums, just tracks. Without a doubt the worst thing to happen to music on Android. Which idiot agreed this was a good idea? This is in no way a replacement for Play Music, it has none of the functionality I use. Not everyone wants to watch videos, some of us LISTEN to music whilst doing other things. Not everyone has unlimited data plans, Not everyone listens to music where there is a data connection available. If and when Play Music is discontinued, I will not be using this stinking pile to play my music, it is totally unfit for purpose.

It's mostly solid. I like the UI, but I've been using Google Play Music for years and despite the transfer of my playlists and library over to YTmusic, it just doesn't do as well. Whatever algorithm YTmusic uses is weak compared to GPM. It's like every station is the same. GPM regularly gave me awesome stations with family songs and new ones in the same genre. I discovered countless artist through that. YTmusic seems to think I only like one sound and the same few artists.

  47. Matt Morrison-avatar

Charging for premium just to play music in the background. That's so pathetic. I am willing to pay for added value. Telling me I can't go to the gym and out the phone in my pocket, or even going for a walk, without paying a subscription.... even for music I already bought!!!?!!! Pure greed and many other options like Spotify or Amazon Music. Even your own (being deprecated) Google Play Music gave me that.

  48. Frederik Nagel-avatar

It is ALWAYS LOADING. Go into artists? Loading. Scroll down? Loading. Open an artist? Loading. Local files? Loading. Play a local file? 5 seconds delay before playback. Skip to Next track? Gap. Even if file is downloaded, or transferred directly from my PC? Gap. Not even seamless playback between tracks! And this on a Pixel device, which should be all optimised. AND this after you practically forced me to switch from GPM? No thank you. I'm taking my family subscription to Spotify.

When playing locally stored music from my phone, YouTube Music frequently stops playing due to "lost connection". Why does a connection even matter in this situation? Please resolve. Also, why doesn't the app recognize playlists previously created using Windows Media Player and synced to the phone. The playlist title is recognized but shows no songs in the list. Please provide better support for locally stored songs and playlists.

  50. Alex Fomenko-avatar

Unfortunately this can't replace Play Music. It still has a lot of strange decisions: 1. where is scrollbar in the lists? Where alphabet to fast scroll? 2. Why I can't select to play uploaded music, music on device and YouTube music at the same time? 3. Why links for artists from uploaded music aren't connected with artist pages in the YouTube Music library? And so on...

  51. what-avatar

I liked this app at first and would always listen to music in the background while drawing something, but recently the free trial ended, and it would stop playing in the background. Like, I kinda find that stupid that you have to buy premium in order to listen to your music in the background. And no, i'm not about to ask my parents to buy premium.

  52. Andreas Maly-avatar

I'm coming from Google Play Music (like so many others) with all my uploaded (and now transferred music) and I really have a hard time liking the YTM app. I can't believe that some basic, basic features, I'd expect from any decent music player app, are not available here. Two things I'd urgently need are: viewing music by genre, and viewing albums by artist. I'd highly appreciate if these features could be added.

  53. Some Rando-avatar

Upon switching from Google music, there was the addition of new artists in my library that I have never heard of, along with the app automatically adding every artist who appears on a track with multiple singers (such as a movie track - Google used to file the entire album under 'various artist's' instead). This would just be a minor inconvenience, except I seem unable to delete anything in my library: artists, albums or songs. This makes the app extremely frustrating to navigate and use.

As if it weren't bad enough that I'm being forced to migrate from the Play Music subscription that I've had for several years, or that I still haven't seen the option to transfer my playlists over appear on my app, I also have to deal with losing functionality, like the ability to have a playlist that mixes music downloaded onto my phone with music I'm streaming. Nothing about forcing your *paid users* to this new service makes any sense.

Have potential, but need more improvement. Recently I chose to move from S**ify premium to Youtube and YT music premium. Here is what i feel after 1 month: On the positive note, the song library is more complete. You basically can found everything in YT music. However, i think the apps are laggy and hard to load compare to the previous apps that I used. It really bothers me. Hope you guys fix it.

  56. Babox Wathier-avatar

I love the app, I've always bin a user of youtube, if you don't have the YouTube music app you should download it, but lately I've bin having an issue with 2 things that I'm not really happy about. (1.) Can't search songs that's already bin download within your own playlist (Find In Playlist). (2.) Duplicate, it doesn't tell you when u have multiples of the same song in the same playlist. Those are my concerns simple and easy fix PLEASE DO IT!! I might have to change back to Spotify 👎

  57. Chris H-avatar

Worse app compared to Play Music in everyway! I have a HUGE Library and the only way to interact with is to download it. What! Why? Update: 6/26/20 After a month of use my opinion is even worse. Trying to interact with UI is painful. Using this has mixed my Music Library with my YouTube videos. Sound quality is awful. Trying to steam to my Pixel 3 or car is chancy at best. Volume has to be at least twice as loud to be able to hear the music.

  58. Crucial One-avatar

I was finally able to transfer my music library from GPM into YTM, but it's a mess. It needs to be better structured/categorized like it was in GPM. That aside, in YTM if you do a search for an artist you'll find there's other artists that use the same moniker in different regions around the world and some tumbnail pic is shown on others music profile. This data has to be cleaned up. Music uploaded/transferred from an old library should come up as other music sources on artist profile page.

  59. Kelly Simmons-avatar

    1. Why does the app close when you close all apps? Play music never did this. 2. Why are the search result album covers so small? 3. Why is the radio section not more obvious? 4. Why are all the album's available in Play Music not available in YTMusic? 5. Why can I not ignore something so I don't have to see it all the time? Thumbs down.

  60. adam thomas-avatar

This is just horrible. I made the switch from Google music and this program sucks. My playlists don't work correctly and the options to randomize the music is horrible. It keeps on not wanting to play my songs and mixes songs with music videos. I have YouTube for videos. The playlist does not clear and I have to clear it every time I want to listen to a new playlist or just a song. I may have to cancel and move back to Spotify. Please make this more like Google music

  61. Randy Peck-avatar

The transfer tool didn't maintain my uploaded and purchased organization from Google play music. All the artists are scattered and albums with multiple artists are not together. I meticulously organized artists on Google Play Music, now it is junk. Getting to music you own is buried in menus, several clicks deep. It's hard not to feel like this is a firm push to say you have to get the paid subscription. Let's hope Google listens to feedback from its users.

Coming from GPM, using only my personal, uploaded library, some key things are missing: You cannot play using Google assistant on Google home. It instead plays a station. You cannot edit metadata, and the app messed up my organisation. The UI is poor: no way to view an artist by album. This app needs to be fixed before it replaces GPM for good. It is also inexcusable that you have to subscribe to cast your own music.

  63. Muimoridin-avatar

Long fan of Google play music, purchased songs despite being as expensive as hard copies but was convenient. Being forced over to this, to then not be able to download music you've paid for, without paying more. Plus getting ads thrown into your music, unless you pay more. Oh & can't play music you've bought in background, unless you pay more. I don't use music streaming services so it may be on par with others, but for stuff I've already paid for, nope. Will probably stop buying movies now

  64. Tim Midgett-avatar

I HATE this app. Google should've stayed with Play Music. The shuffle function replays music that's already been played, turns off when you exit the app, and plays music in the same order when you turn it on again. The Liked play list includes stuff that you've liked on YouTube, not just songs from your own library. Very irritating. Oftentimes the like button doesn't even work. If you hit the thumbs down button it auto skips to the next song, then plays other tracks you've previously disliked.

  65. Brandon Mario-avatar

Extremely frustrating and annoying that you cannot disable auto play... at the end of an album or playlist... some random music you never asked for will start playing... I enjoy setting a playlist to fall asleep to... after 20-30 minutes I'd like for the playlist to end while I'm asleep. what does youtube music do? Plays some trash I never asked for! I didnt ask for it dont play it! Going to just use spotify again. small feature that makes a big difference to me. 1/5 for missing a basic feature.

  66. Dave Phinney-avatar

Trying the switch from GPM and still getting used to the app. However a complete non-starter is being unable to cast from the app to my Sonos system. The Sonos app is pretty limited and I want the features of the YTM app, but I can't see the Sonos speakers in the cast menu (my Home Mini and Android TV show up). GPM supported it, why not YTM?? I can't switch until that's fixed, or I guess I'll have to start looking for a new service. I'm not getting rid of my extensive Sonos setup.

  67. Myk Bice-avatar

Was getting better, although a couple of updates back removed the warning option of duplicate songs being added to a playlist. Now unfortunately, I can add the same song in a playlist several times over without informing me that I already have it. Please correct this issue as I don't care to have several duplicates in a playlist. Will rate higher when corrected.

  68. Geo113 Gaff-avatar

I searched up 3 of my favorite songs and the only things that popped up were remixes, covers and other songs from the series! This app is not very good for that reason and I dont recommend it to people who don't like covers or remixes. For the average rating for the app should be a 2 or 1 because of how many of those I saw in reveiws

  69. daniels 0056-avatar

The library feature doesn't show your library, if you add albums from an artist they don't show up when you navigate to the artist, but all albums without knowing which albums you liked. Library is terrible and unusable. GPM had "in my library"! A lot of bands with the same name gets mixed leading to different genres when playing an artist... UI has potential but this is basically YouTube without video, no organization - playlist "stations" is the only usable thing about this app.

  70. Ferdinand Lobo-avatar

Horrific experience. Wish I had Spotify. Needs to add gapless play and fade in to the next song like Spotify. I can't believe this will replace Google Play Music. It went from bad to worse going from Google Play Music to this. Going to be using Google Play Music until this is dealt with. And if they do not add these key features, I will delete the app and just get Spotify. Very disappointed.

  71. Drew Walsh-avatar

Inferior to Google Music in every way. Massive disappointment if they actually think this is ready to replace it. Can't even select multiple songs on desktop to add to a queue. Sorting is different and a lot less intuitive, all the "items" now group together. (the Beatles and the beastie boys now under T). Uploaded music and YouTube music dont group together, which was the entire reason I liked Google music to begin with. Without the ability to see my whole library at once I may just cancel.

  72. Roman Kolisnyk-avatar

After months of using, the app still doesn't know what music I like. That recommendations sucks, so I don't wanna use the main screen, especially "explore" tab. I don't know where to find new releases...they constantly jumps in one place, then in another, then disappears altogether. And cache...Play Music has a great cache system. CopyPaste that code and everyone will be happy.

The user experience here sucks. Especially annoying when you search an artist, go to songs and start playing one. It doesn't play you the songs of the list you see, but creates some random playlist of similar songs. Also have a bug with car's display. It shows some random values of artist, song name. Values are when playing from Google Play Music or Apple Music. Been trying to report it via support but they refused to file it. Wrote an email to developer and got no-reply answer.

  74. Ian Wye-avatar

I pay for the subscription on Google play music which was pretty good, I've tried going to YouTube music twice now and gone back. It's shite, when I connect it to the car stereo via Bluetooth it auto pauses, why? Also it doesn't send all the info to the stereo, I only generally play my play list so get really annoyed with having to go through different menus, just have it on the top on the home screen, also my home hub doesn't work with YouTube music! Hope they sort this.

This app is a poor substitute for Google music. The music volume dims when I get a notification, the app stops playing when my phone goes to sleep. The algorithm finding new music totally sucks: good luck finding any little-known gems. It's obvious some companies pay to get played. Does not have a protocol for Chromecast which is so dumb it boggles the mind. Total garbage. Two stars instead of one because it allows me to play music from MVs

  76. Caleb Hoffmann-avatar

The app is not a bad replacement for Google play music. However I'm consistently experiencing playback issues with the app whether on data or wifi. It will stop and pause multiple times or the app will just stop all together. Not happy with this issue. Play music could also play in the background at all times. If you clear this app it stops the music.

  77. Adam Purnell-avatar

Yes it plays music. But it is not a patch on Google Play Music. I love Play Music so much. I've transferred over to YouTube with a full family premium account and now it wants £2 more a month from me for a less enjoyable app. My favourite feature of Play Music is that I can close the app and still have the music playing. If I do the same with YouTube music, it just stops playing all together. Also, the colour scheme and functionality is hideous compared to Google Play Music. Such a shame.

  78. Riley Cook-avatar

I really like how YouTube is directly attached to it so I can listen live music on here that I couldn't get anywhere else because of that. Also, how with every song it shows lyrics, related music, and you can easily change to the music video mid-song without any disruption. However, my problems with it are that it doesn't have the best organization. It doesn't show music in my library from each artist page on their page, all of my albums in my library, and they only have one Jimi Hendrix album.

  79. Martin Perry-avatar

Dear YouTube music, I think it's very poor on your part asking me to transfer my albums and songs, from Google music to YouTube music, knowing full well that I wouldn't be able to cast it to my Google home speaker without a subscription. I feel locked out, unable to listen to the music I bought. Song writers and artists will suffer because of this. As people like me who don't stream music will seek alternative options to acquire digital music that isn't locked behind a door.

Had it a few days now. You can add songs to a playlist, but NOT remove them. Finding uploaded albums is a faff. It drains battery life, the interface for uploaded music is awful, it's slow, you cant edit music files details on the web app. I hate it. Google play music was simple and had MORE functionality. This is a step backwards.

  81. G S-avatar

Love the new app, can't wait until I can move my music library over from Google Play Music. Only issue I hate about this app (and why I'm only giving 4 stars instead of 5) is when I have my ear buds in, the music stops as soon as I lock my phone or close the app to switch to another one. In other words, it doesn't work in the background. And looking through the specs of the app here, it's intentional unless you subscribe to their premium service.

  82. jude riley-avatar

I have just transferred from google play music and this is much less accessible. Finding my own music is so cumbersome, having to scroll down an endless list of artists, the interface is awful. I'm not sure who this is aimed at but its not me. Junk. Hope this gets sorted out or as soon as you end google music, I'll switch to Spotify

  83. TheRams Hup-avatar

Being forced to use this to listen to my purchased and uploaded music is a pain. I don't like the interface compared to play music. I've installed this app 3 times previously and tried to get in with it, but removed it because for music alone, Play music is better!!! Simple! Updated. downloaded app again. The menu makes no sense. The are listings in my music artists for music and channels I have never seen before! Basically once Google play music goes then so my subscription!

  84. Mike Morley-avatar

So got email to transfer music from GPM to this, but at the moment I've staved off due to the fact I have 100's of albums on GPM both purchased on physical and via Google Digital Purchases and I can listen to these from my phone via BT to my headsets, car radio or cast to another device while using another app in the foreground or the phone is switched off. With GPM you CAN'T DO THIS unless you pay a monthly fee to listen to your own music in the background as this is classed as a premium feature. Also Family features are then no longer available so if you have a family plan and have children on this, you can no longer share the features with them. Overall not recommended if you use background playback, casting, family plans with children. So look elsewhere until Google sort this shambles out.

  85. Daniel Thomas-avatar

So disappointed in Google for this forced change from Google Play Music to YouTube Music. I am no longer able to stream my own music library previously uploaded to Google Play Music storage in the background without paying for a subscription. It was one of the primary reasons that I used Google Play Music. Being asked for payment to listen to my own music is somewhat ridiculous. Google Play Music was vastly more user friendly for this reason. Unless this changes I will continue to use Spotify.

  86. A Buddy Guy-avatar

If this app truly has to be a replacement for Google Play, it will have to add the simple features Play had that is causing YT Music to be less superior such as clearing a queue, or allowing external devices to playback. YT Musics UI takes a little longer to navigate, I feel like the focus is less on my personal music, and more on the explore and reccomendations. It would also be helpful not to mix YouTube videos and playlists with YouTube music. Personally, I'd like to keep those separate.

  87. Nick Krznarich-avatar

Terrible Forced "Upgrade". Play Music was WAY better. I now have to listen to an AD after EVERY song of my purchased music which was transfered over from Play Music. I repeat PURCHASED licenses which I now have ads for between EVERY song. I'd stay with play music then this forced "Upgrade" It's not like I'm trying to use free streaming, this is purchased music I'm talking about here, it's absurd. Also cant minimize the app and continue to listen to my purchased tracks like play music. Garbage!

  88. Mike Perryman-avatar

I have been forced to transfer to this app from Google music. Then I am asked to pay to listen to the music I own on my Google speaker when I cast it. I also find it clunky to navigate and the music I own very often doesn't play properly. This just another way for Google to make money and try and tighten the noose.

  89. Norman Arias-avatar

Is a bit stupid to pay a subscription using a huawei p40 when Google services is not available, I suggest Google to separate the business of applications from operating system, then you'll have an interesting set of apps independent of the platform the user decides to use. I'll have to go back to Spotify just for this reason and oh yeah, no more Google movies or maps, Waze and Amazon or Rakuten are perfect alternatives instead. Google should be more independent of governments. Bye for now until you offer new and fresh ideas for the services you offer. I'm pretty sure Huawei is already thinking about replacing the set of tools of Google right now, then it would be the end of an era, like it happened to some companies called Nokia or Blackberry.

I've started using this app more frequently since Google is going to eventually shut down Google Play Music and my experience has been mostly good. I knocked off one star because the wake screen controls don't work resulting in me having to unlock my phone to change tracks every time. I didn't have this problem with Google Play Music. Google please fix this! Note 8 user *****6/27/20 UPDATE The wake screen problem has been fixed! Thanks! 5 stars

Got this app only because the Google home mini doesn't connect to YouTube premium and I wanted to use it to listen to music. Downloaded it for that purpose. it does not respond to the names of my playlists playing a random song instead and the app itself that will not give you the option to stay on the playlist that you have selected so that it doesn't start using your data at random. By continuing to auto play and there is no option for that easily visible.

  92. Riccardo Papa-avatar

This is such a poor service compared to Google Play Music. The interface for accessing your library is slow and has to buffer your list of artists, albums etc. Making it virtually impossible to access your content efficiently. Google Play was quick and easy to use and I loved how it would group content from the artist with your own uploaded library. Google, please fix YouTube Music, especially as you are retiring Google Play Music.

  93. ivan palomera-avatar

Missing a search feature that displays only downloaded content like a filter. Also it's reasonable to expect an improvement on the queue system which is more trouble than it's worth including the upnext option, it's simply hard to line up a list of songs you want to play on the spot accurately 🤷‍♂️ I switched over from Spotify because it kept crashing no matter what I did to my phone and I still believe YTMusic app and system works great as an alternative. Hopefully it only keeps improving.

Wow, now there I have a big library of YouTube Music and Play Music merged together. Cool black UI, however UX needs some improvement, also there are some bugs (guess you know about them). Don't like your playlist always slides up when I touch to play track in library (especially on PC version). I prefer continue scrolling library/feed rather than viewing a track in single view. The second case is that I had two different philosophies of likes on YT and Play Music. Now they are merged in one folder and I need to remove likes from many tracks from YT. Also there is lack of functions on YT music. For example I don't have an option to "Open track in YouTube" from track options. Play buttons at left side are confusing to me after switching, but maybe I'll get used to it. I'd like there be an option to change cover of playlist like YouTube has

  95. Rick _-avatar

User interface is horrible. Either shows a vertical list of tiny icons or a just a few huge ones. Player controls are useless, stuck on narrow bar at the bottom of the screen. Play Music is much easier to navigate, makes much better use of screen real estate. No sleep timer. Major issue: Can't cast to Sonos.

  96. Laura Hilton-avatar

I want to love this app, but the search functionality is terrible. When I search albums it often defaults to non English language versions for no clear reason. Since I converted my Google Assistant basically can't find anything I ask for, even if I give very specific album names. These are all things that worked flawlessly in the Play Music app. Frustrated that this app isn't yet up to speed.

  97. P Bains-avatar

For everyone experiencing the problem casting music videos instead of just audio, CANCEL your premium NOW and then sign into YouTube with a new/different Gmail account and you'll be able to cast music videos again by default. Ads are honestly not that bad, I'd rather be able to cast music videos! Plus you're gonna save $12/month! You're Welcome! :)

  98. Shuk Hambalie-avatar

This app is terrible. From the start it prompt me to pay for full future. I don't think you need to download this app when all the song have in the original youtube. I install the app just because I want to play the music in background but I need the premium just like the original youtube. If I want to pay for the premium I probably choose the original one instead of this, there a lot more video and music I can find in the original. I would give It 0 instead of 1. Spotify is better than this

  99. Iain Pillinger-avatar

Moved from Google Play Music, but YouTube Music doesn't allow purchases made through Google Play Music, or purchases uploaded to my account, to be casted to a device or streamed through a Sonos speaker. The UI is confusing as any music on your account is made difficult to get to. I understand they want to promote the streaming service, but making it difficult to access purchased music from Google Play Music and uploads is stupid. I wouldn't be surprised if Google shut this part of the service down in the future as the priority with this service/app is paid streaming. I'll be switching to another service and making future purchases elsewhere.

As a premium google play music user, I transferred and found the app generally the same and like it. However, having changed my google assistant settings in my phone to use youtube music, I am told by google assistant when I ask to play a playlist, that I need to install google play music to be able to do this. BIG PROBLEM. Do not launch products which aren't compatible with your other products - SO FRUSTRATING (especially when I can set the default player to youtube music in google assistant!).
