DISCLAIMER: Before downloading this app, please make sure you have read through the documentation on our website, https://wemessageapp.com, about what this app specifically does and you know the requirements needed in order to make it work.

weMessage is a unified messaging solution that brings one of the world's most popular messaging platforms to your Android device and unlocks many features that today's current messaging solutions lack.

In order to use all of weMessage's features, you will need to download its companion app, a messaging server called the weServer. For more information about setting this up, check out our website: https://wemessageapp.com/setup.

■ SMS and MMS Messaging - weMessage can act as the default messaging app on your phone, providing a clean user interface and a powerful alternative to other apps. In addition, you can send MMS message attachments that are up to seven times larger than your carrier limit!

■ Group Chats - weMessage allows you to send and receive group chat messages. You can also create, rename, or add and remove people from group chats (renaming or adding and removing people is not supported for SMS Group Chats).

■ Attachments - Built-in support for image, audio, and video attachments! You can also send voice messages or pictures taken straight from your camera!

■ Comprehensive Contact System - weMessage includes an in-depth contact platform, that allows you to customize contact names and add contact photos. In addition, you can sync and import contacts from your computer or directly from your phone. You can also block contacts and set them as Do Not Disturb.

■ Read Receipts - weMessage shows you when your message has been delivered or read by the recipient.

■ Encryption - Your messages are sent and delivered using AES cryptography, the encryption standard for the U.S. government. This ensures that your messages will not be intercepted over public Wi-Fi or a cellular connection. If you are using the weServer, it does not store your messages on a central server. Instead, you have full control over the messages you send, as you host it on your own computer. Note: SMS messages are not encrypted, only the ones that are sent to your weServer.

■ Even More! - weMessage includes a built-in video player and web browser, supports notifications and notification counter badges, big emoji messages, and more!

Through weMessage, you will have a powerful, comprehensive messaging solution that will connect you with your friends.

The bottom line is: it works. It takes about an hour to set up with port forwarding and all, but it is definitely worth it. Group messages work great, and all the texts seem to go through with very little delay. There are a few bugs though, such as getting a notification for a text but it not actually showing up when you go into the chat, however if you go out and back in, it usually shows up. But what do you expect? Your getting imessaage on Android so for what it is, it works.

windows It seems fine. I am running a 24/7 server form a Mac at home, but I am having a lot of trouble with server connection issues. Sometimes it thinks I am already connected when I am not and blocks my incoming connection, sometimes it thinks that two devices are connected when in fact it is the same device and I get double messages. Just a lot of server connection issues. UI is okay, but it could use some work. I am also very willing to help your iron out these issues and I have a good technical background.

android Pretty easy to set up if you follow the youtube video (and have some level of computer/router tinkering skill). I'm a bit dissapointed it does not support the ability to "like" , "love" , etc. messages. That was the whole point of this... otherwise SMS is just fine. Hopefully the dev (or open source contributors) will be able to add functionality to this solid foundation.

  4. Cabalex-avatar

spiele There's a bunch of little annoying things, like the things that should make a swipe back animation (like back buttons) actually swipe forward, and one big thing, which is that the photo selection from the gallery doesn't really... work? Like, the same few images just duplicate over and over between blank space, unless you scroll fast enough, in which the images change, but the bug still persists after you stop scrolling as fast. PLEASE fix this, as it almost makes the app unusable. I know it's only a small developer working on this, and massive props for that, but it's just... the little things.

pew pew This is AMAZING! It took my quite a bit of time to configure, but it's completely worth it! I use this to communicate with my nieces and nephews, and I don't always have my MacBook or iPad with me to respond to them in a timely manner. It took me a while to configure because this doesn't appear to be compatible with MacOS Mojave, and I needed to get a virtual machine going, running High Sierra. It's working on LAN and WAN. This young developer is gonna go places.

  6. Antoine Lafond-avatar

    Antoine Lafond

löschen I set it up for both LAN and WAN and it works pretty well. I did not send any duplicates or anything. The only thing that is not working for me at the moment is the notifications.. I am unable to get notified at all. It also seems that when you close the app, it doesn't run in background as when I open it back up it connects back to the server.

gruppe Great app in principle but with a little more work would be amazing. The main issue is contacts not working as they are not syncing with phone or Mac. App crashes on my S9 regularly. I expect these are small bugs. Would be great if the developer continued to develop the app but looks like no work has been done on this for a year.

  8. Jeff Byers-avatar

    Jeff Byers

kosten Finally was able to switch from my iPhone to Android because of this app. Setting it up with a free DDNS service works perfectly (using No-IP). My only gripe is that the contacts sync one-way. It would be ideal if contacts added in weMessage sync'd the other way back to the main contact list. Is it possible to run a constant two-way sync so it doesn't need to be triggered manually either?

hacks Nice idea, unfortunate functionality I've just made the move from IOS to android and this was my go to for imessage. I was quick to find out that the functionality of this app just isn't what I need it to be. Kudos to the developers for trying so hard to make it work, unfortunately there are some issues. Due to the word limit I won't go in to any further detail. In summary, WeMessage is a fantastic concept which I really appreciate however it just doesn't replace iMessage like I need it to.

games works ok for the imessages. but as an SMS replacement it's very lacking. when a new message arrives I get a notification, but clicking the notification or even opening the app shows no new message. I have to fully close the app then relog in before I can read the new message .

Not working correctly on Android pie. I am able to send messages to iCloud address from phone over public IP. Conversation show up in iMessage on iMac, but not showing up on phone or receiving new messages. Will try private IP when I get back in town.

This is a great app with some bugs to iron out. Fix the bugs before introducing and more features. I'll easily give 5 stars when the software bugs are fixed but for now it's a bit too buggy. It crashes and the screen has to refresh before seeing new messages. Keep up the good work. Will wait for the next update which I hope is soon.

  33. A Google user-avatar

This app is great! It got me to switch over to Android. It's not perfect, however I can live with the bugs. I would give five stars if I could use it as my primary messaging app, however it is just a little bit too buggy and laggy to do that. I use it for Imessage group chats and it works well enough. Suited my needs perfectly!

  34. Mike Graikoski-avatar

    Mike Graikoski

App works okay for a few minutes on my Note 8. Putting the screen to sleep disconnects the phone from the server and won't let me reconnect without resetting the server. Can't connect to the server unless the phone is on WiFi. My mac is hardline connected to the router so there shouldn't be any issues on that front. Overall if the functionality improves it could be a great app, but for now it's too buggy to use.

  35. Tracey Jefferson-avatar

    Tracey Jefferson

I was very excited about this app at first as I switched to an Android and my family still has iPhones. My issues are with my Note 8 constantly disconnecting from the server, port forwarding, notifications, and the no. of messages showing on the icon. I thought I had the kinks worked out with port forwarding but it started back acting up today. I really want this app to work and I hope the developer will work on the bugs

  36. Adam Levy-avatar

    Adam Levy

Super effort. Very appreciative to be able to communicate with apple users in their own ecosystem. I may still be convincing a fair number of people to start using Whatsapp and Skype, but this will just make the interaction easier and may ease the pressure a little. One issue that I think could easily be resolved with a little update. When you open the app, it doesn't display the iMessages, only the SMS/MMS. You can quickly press the settings button and home button and it will display all of it (presumably after resuming the connection with the server). So, it isn't seemless. If the app stored messages on the phone or was able to load them quickly to display, it would be much easier. My data usage has also skyrocketed, and although I don't know for certain this app is the cause, I suspect it is downloading messages over and over again when it could download them only once anything then store it on the phone. In all, impressed and happy. Thank you!

  37. A Google user-avatar

    A Google user

Really great app. Every update it gets better. One major issue is if you exit the app without going back to convo list u don't get notifications of new message. If it's an iMessage sync issue maybe offer a settings option to always return to the convo list on app exit. Also would love proper gallery support and Bitmoji. Amazing work so far.

  38. Richard Makarewicz-avatar

    Richard Makarewicz

Full of bugs. Won't send to non-iMessage numbers unless you sign out and switch to SMS mode. You simply can't use this app for your default messaging app. Keeps signing in and out, texts show up in blue then orange. Txts from the same person show up as separate messages: one blue (iMessage) and one in orange (SMS). Utterly unreliable

  39. Marcus Lindgren-avatar

    Marcus Lindgren

It's very buggy. If you write e message, and close the app it won't save it so you can continue writing. I don't get notifications about new messages at all, and if I open it, I can see the new message in the overview but have to restart it to see it in the conversation. It's hardly worth using.

  40. Matei Mandoiu-avatar

    Matei Mandoiu

I enjoy using the app very much, and port forwarding works really well. There are a couple of issues, but they can mostly be overlooked. The texts always show up in the list, but sometimes the iMessages don't so I have to go to the app settings and then back to make them appear. And my main problem, though a little one, is that I can't change the ringtone of a message. Otherwise great app!

  41. Zachary Hui-avatar

    Zachary Hui

It's a really nice application that I have used since the first week of release. Has a major crash bug for 1.2 that creates an error when connecting or disconnecting but other than that I love it. People also don't seem to understand that you need an OSX computer to set the thing up to begin with.

  42. Craig Nelson-avatar

    Craig Nelson

I'm giving it 5 starts just because the developer put in the effort to make this happen. It's still pretty buggy but I know the hurdles you must have went through just to get it to work. Keep it up. We appreciate it

  43. Austin West-avatar

    Austin West

Love the app and have been using it for a few months now, but with the new update that rolled out adding SMS support the app has become buggy and slow. Constant refreshing as it looks for more SMS texts and many times I have to click on a text 2 or 3 times to get the new one to show up for a person. Hope this can be fixed soon because this is an awesome app. Also the notification badges are messed up too. It will usually say there's more than there really is for example I have one text I haven't read yet and the app shows there's 4. UPDATE: The app seems to get more and more buggy everyday. It's a 5 star app but I'm giving only a 2 now because it's beginning to be unusuble.

  44. Vaughn Goy-avatar

Tried to run this on the mojave 10.14 beta and get an error when starting up the server. It tells me there are no recent messages that are associated with iMessage account. Guessing something needs to be updated. Months later and still no update for mojave really loved the app unfortunately haven't been able to use it for a long time.. hopefully the developer can chime in and give us an update.

  45. David Etheridge-Bartow-avatar

Overall I love this app. Got it working pretty consistently from a PC running a virtual machine with macOS & kept my phone number. It does have a few bugs / missing features as others have stated but I'm sure these will be ironed out in future updates. Some bugs I noticed when sending messages: 1) Messages that start with quotes (") will not send whatsoever. 2) Sending a message with '$500' in it gets truncated to '00' every time 3) Sending attachments doesn't seem to pick up videos I have on my phone Just wanted to flag these for whenever you have time to look into them, but you've done an AMAZING job with this, Roman.

  46. Theo Stephen-avatar

This is amazing! What a brilliant solution. It's certainly not perfect or ready for everyday use, but I love using weMessage to send & receive large attachments with people who have IOS devices. No doubt there's bugs to work out, but this really is super simple if you think about it. And I love that there's no middleman aside from my home computer. Maybe, if we're lucky, the monopoly of cell carriers will figure out a universal upgrade to SMS, but this is the best option for now.

Greatest app ever for Android users! Round of applause goes to the developer. Though there are some minor bugs and glitches (e.g. badge app icon not refreshing, newest message not showing up at once, etc.), I still love the freedom the app provides. It even supports multiple devices! I hope Apple won't start bullying as they always do...

Great app, quite impressive for a single 16 year old developer. Has great things coming his way. Would have given it 5 stars if it had native texting and calling support. Message to the developer: if you need someone to help test or bounce ideas off let me know. Message to others wanting to use it: if you have a server or NAS just create a KVM of OSX high Sierra and use clover to make a 'hackintosh' with a serial uuid. Working great so far on my VM. edit: brought sms support

Only thing I don't like is the fact that you gotta have an apple computer to set up wemessage to your android.

Just installed this yesterday. It worked for a moment and then started to get buggy. Here is a short list of things that it does. My current Android device is an Essential PH-1 running Oreo 8.1. 1. iMessage and weMessage message threads are not synced (iMessage shows everything and weMessage only shows some of the texts) 2. When I send a message from phone and then go back to the message thread, it takes a very long time to refresh and all messages are out of sync 3. Not able to see any of the additional features (or where to access them) 4. Also there seems to be some issues initially logging in saying that my IP address does not match. Upon entering the same IP address again, it seems to work. 5. Messages in the threads are out of sync in the order they have been sent/received. Man I really want this app to work. It will fix some of the issues that I currently have with some group messaging threads with iOS users. Maybe someone can point out what I am doing wrong. Thanks.

Follow all instructions, you need to be a bit tech savvy to set it up correctly but once it's set up, works great. I do wish you had gallery sharing options though... You have to scroll endlessly through your entire gallery to find what you want to share in-app...

This is a great feat in solving the iMessage on Android, job well done. The app is pretty buggy and could use some clean up, but for being the frist real app I have found to solve this "issue" I applaud you. If the app stabalises, I will improve my rating.

5 stars purely for the fact you have created this app. I am unsure of exact numbers, but I am pretty sure there is a huge amount of people sticking with Apple devices strictly because they are tied to iMessage messaging and are afraid to drop that. As for the server app, fairly straightforward to setup on the Mac as long as you got a proper Java version installed and ensure you have setup your port forwarding in your router. The phone app, couldn't be easier! Hat's off for the contact sync! After that, I thought I was texting on an iPhone (helps when your phone is a Xiaomi MI A1 - an identical iphone twin ;) So far no real issues. I can see when a connection closes down, you may have to make a few moves to get the convo back in the screen. To me that is peanuts compared to what this app offers. I truly hope weServer will stick and that Apple does not close this down! You have made a gem!

Great app. I always want to use iMessage on my Google phone and this works well. It will be perfect if you add costume notification settings, such as ring tone, vibration, etc.

App is a great idea, just some bugs to iron out. I dont get notifications for my iMessages instantly, a lot of the time I have to sign out and sign back in by closing the app just to see new messages. It is still recieving the messages because I can see new messages from the main screen, but then when I open the conversation it isn't there. This is by far the biggest problem and needs to be fixed before considering any other additions. But besides this, I would also consider adding the ability to like, dislike, etc. people's messages and be able to see other people doing the same rather than getting a new message that someone has liked a message. Also in the conversation screen it is kinda annoying because there is a blank line above and below the actual text, making the text boxes much larger than necessary and harder to read conversations. I would recommend making it like on the iPhone where if you swipe left it reveals the time of the message, rather than automatically showing the time and wasting space. I am really hoping the guy who made it reads this. From what I understand you're a high school age kid who did this all on your own, so props to you, you allowed me to switch to Android while still keeping iMessage, which was my biggest reason for staying with iPhone. This is a great app, just needs some bugs ironed out to be more user friendly. Edit: also it is really annoying that this app doesn't show up in the Share menu. Functionality for this is very needed as there is currently no way to add a picture besides screenshotting and saving it.

App works well for iMessage sending and receiving but when turning on SMS support I just get a giant unorganized list of my sms messages that seems to change order every time I go back to the main list. It also does not seem possible to determine which message is an SMS one and which one is iMessage. For now I have turned off SMS integration until some of the bugs are worked out.

Love it. For me the only thing left for perfection is gif and image insertion from keyboard. Would like to change the Orange to something else at some point.

No entirely bug free but a innovative solution to get iMessage on Android. Works well enough for "casual" use.

Congrats on what you pulled off with this app, but there are a ton of bugs: I cannot receive images, notifications are inconsistent, I cannot see new messages unless I leave then re-enter the chat (even after getting a notification), and whenever I try to send a video or voice clip I get an error message saying that the attachment type isn't supported in SMS even though I'm trying to send as an iMessage (I don't even have SMS turned on).

I was able to sync my contacts which populated all my previous text messages. however, because the messaging app continuously refreshes, my most recent conversation is never at the top so I have to constantly scroll looking for it. Bummer.

Update2: Now it doesn't work again. Restarted my phone and the app instantly crashes when I open it. Frustration is the right word here. The potential is there, but the execution right now is turning me away. I will check back a month from now and see where it is. If it's still breaking, buggy and frankly unusable, I might try to create an iMessage repeater that works myself.

Respect. This app is really terrific. 5 stars for ingenuity, design, execution. Let me know if you ever need a day job, kid! It's truly remarkable to be able to communicate with my imessages from my Android. A word of caution: as this app works in tandem with its MacOS app, be sure to always update both simultaneously, i.e. update while near your Mac. Also as this is still in prerelease testing, you may have to uninstall and reinstall the app rather than update, especially for major updates, i.e. switch off automatic updates so they don't happen while you're out and about.

Edit: to fix crash on launch on new version try allowing SMS and phone permission through settings, or clearing the data of weMessage through settings. weMessage does what it should (sync iMessage to Android) well, and nothing else at all. So far, it's been wonderfully reliable, and with port forwarding set up, it's flexible and seriously useful. Thank you so much dev!! Latest update makes it crash on launch tho :(

Great app! Messaging works with about 0.5 second delay, which is more than fine by me. I have yet to test with an external IP. It has all the basic features it says you can do. I'd love to see u add more minute iMessage features later on down the road, but otherwise this is great!

Very impressed. Even though there are some noticeable bugs, it works well for a first version. To the dev: if you can integrate normal SMS into the app alongside of iMessage, this would take off. Maybe attempt all msgs as iMessages first, then default to SMS if failed. Let me know if you need help!

Incredible. Very impressed with this app. Initial set up might be more than you're used to for an app, but it's so worth it. The only thing I missed switching to Android is iMessage, and this young developer has solved the issue. Keep up the great work; this is definitely ground-breaking stuff!

This is absolutely amazing. I switched from iPhone to the note 8, and hated not having iMessage. Especially because I use iMessage for work so I could only use my iPad or Mac for it. Took me about an hour to figure out the port forward, but once I got that, this works flawlessly! Would definitely recommend.
