Vespucci is an advanced tool for editing OpenStreetMap data, it is not a map viewer or a navigation app. You will need an OpenStreetMap account to use it .

You can download the map data for a specific area and edit the map. After editing, you can upload it directly to the OSM servers.

Any accidental change can be undone and all changes are listed for review before upload. Tag-autocompletion, JOSM compatible presets, links to the translated map-features pages and even auto-completing nearby street names help to find the right tags to use.

We recommend disabling auto-updates for Vespucci so that you can upload your edits before app updates.

More information and documentation can be found on and in the on-device help.

Please do not report problems here or ask for support, see why we can't provide support and accept issues on the play store review section. You can report issues directly from the app without a github account or go directly to the issue tracker.

Compared to a desktop with JOSM it's fantastic how full-featured an OSM editor this is on relatively low-spec Android devices. Naturally a few things are cumbersome to do with only a touchscreen but some features such as the POI templates and address autocompletion are actually more pleasant to use than on JOSM. Great work!

  2. Dallas Epperson-avatar

On pixel 4xl, long pressing on a node causes the menu to open and immediately close. This makes it impossible to open details on a node.

Not sure what happened on the last update but it takes forever to do anything now. Had to uninstall because it was too slow. Back to JSON... And I was running the newest version. I stated I just updated it.

  4. Savva Bogdanov-avatar

    Savva Bogdanov

Complicated to use and couldn't activate satellite mode so I can see where I am adding paths. It's easier to simply go on the OSM website by connecting a mouse and keyboard to your Android and editing OSM there.

Vespucci is a **feature-full** , and probably most **powerful** OpenStreetMap editing tool for mobiles devices. This maybe more difficult to use on smaller screens, but works great on larger ones and tablets. It's even usable this during mapathons with a tablet and a bluetooth mouse. This tool is designed to work with OpenStreetMap, and other data sources that are open compatible to ODbL. Don't expect this tool to work with proprietary sources. You can edit nodes, ways, and relations. You can also use it for some micro-tasking managers, and Quality Assurance tools. It includes features like presets to make editing more convenient. The project is actively developed, and the developers are responsive to issues. Definitely a tool you'd want to include in your mobile editing tool set.

As much as you can get on a smartphone. Great for collecting POIs and editing attributes of existing objects. Editing geometry is something I prefer to use JOSM for back at home anyway. Unlike some other commenters I don't have issues with performance and that on a very low-end device.

Took a day or so to fully figure out how to use it - it's clunky at first. But after getting used to clicking extra buttons to get to properties, and hitting a button at the bottom to upload a changeset, it's actually pretty great - comparable with the id editor online.

I still prefer to use old version of Vespucci, since new versions are very slow, even on new phones. Map paning and zoom in/out are slow with default settings of the app in atleast two latest versions that I have check. I currently use version 0.9.6 which is fast enough.

I installed the app to be able to edit OSM on phone, but unfortunately the doesn't support Google login, which prevented me from using the app. Had to install because of this reason. Else the app looked good and intiutive for a complex editing.

App is great. Does what it must and well! Sadly it overlaps my soft buttons with app menu buttons, but that is an Android issue. As a contributing osm mapper, Vespucci is the best I could find. Learning. Curve is fair for the power.

Good editing app, responsive and active development. Obviously, it requires an amount of OSM knowledge. if you wanted to contribute in an easy way you might consider StreetComplete or Osmand.

Great app, works well even with the worst mobile data connection. Something which would be really nice would be some additional information for some tags, not for such obvious settings like oneway, but for something like building, a short description when to use farm for example.

You can't download a map in this app. Another fake OSM editor. Just use the site, these "OSM" apps are just out for your info and don't work. "Error 400 message Bad Request" Edit: I zoomed in as much as I could, it still wouldn't download.

Great app. I could do the edits I wanted. Keep up the good work. Nice type-ahead also to help you on the run. I had a problem selecting nodes, but that seems to be fixed by enabling Settings Icon > Large node drag area

I use this rather than the online OSM editors, because they struggle to run on my laptop and it does fine on my phone. Obviously to use it properly you need to learn the app and read the OSM wiki for the tags you're using, but that's necessary anyway for OSM editing. I've had a few crashes on my S3, but—amazingly—without losing my edits. They're intact when the app resumes. I like the app a lot.

  55. Simon Dixon-avatar

    Simon Dixon

It's an impressive looking app, but the functionality just isn't there for general editing. Adding tags is very unintuitive and difficult to save, adding areas seems impossible. It is all complicated in that the way it works is different to other GIS systems, so things don't work the way one would expect, however the help/tutorials are not comprehensive. I am a GIS professional and have spent an hour with the app trying to create a new area feature and define it, and create a new building. I have been unable to accomplish either. I assume it's possible, but my review is based on the belief that in a good app a user with GIS experience should be able to do this, (with reference to help documentation), fairly easily.

Does weird stuff jumping in and out of fullscreen mode when the menus pop up, making it difficult to use. None of the icons have labels, and I couldn't find an undo option so I ended up with a broken map and gave up.

Not yet intuitive. support docs thoroughly lacking detail. can't see instructions on how to add turn restrictions for example. Still loses all unuploadedd points notes and even local gps traces (08/14). Also, map still doesn't auto centre on GPS location and zoom to that point even with Follow GPS enabled, nor can it get your location from network or WiFi, only GPS.

Many reviews are saying that it destroys relations. Its true, it's easy to screw things up. But the important use of the app is its usability in real situation. You don't have to take notes and photos. Its easy to add a point, needs some experience for lines and I haven't tried relations yet( and not broke any existing ones). I think it's a great app that has a long path to travel.
