Are you having trouble falling asleep? Are your kids hyperactive when playing with the tablet before bed time?
Are you using your smart phone or tablet in the late evening? Twilight may be a solution for you!
WARNING: Android O does no allow the app to cover your notifications any more..
Recent research suggests that exposure to blue light before sleep may distort your natural (circadian) rhythm and cause inability to fall asleep.
The cause is the photoreceptor in your eyes, called Melanopsin. This receptor is sensitive to a narrow band of blue light in the 460-480nm range which may suppress Melatonin production - a hormone responsible for your healthy sleep-wake cycles.
In experimental scientific studies it has been shown an average person reading on a tablet or smart phone for a couple of hours before bed time may find their sleep delayed by about an hour.
The Twilight app makes your device screen adapt to the time of the day. It filters the flux of blue light emitted by your phone or tablet after sunset and protects your eyes with a soft and pleasant red filter. The filter intensity is smoothly adjusted to the sun cycle based on your local sunset and sunrise times.
Get more from Twilight
1) Bed reading: Twilight is more pleasant on the eyes for night reading. Especially as it is able to lower the screen backlight far below the ability of the backligt controls on your screen
2) AMOLED screens: We have tested Twilight on an AMOLED screen for 2.5 years without any sign of depletion or over-burning. If properly configured Twilight causes less light emission (by enabling dimming) with more equal light distribution (dark areas of the screen such as the status bar get tinted). This may in fact increase your AMOLED screen life time.
Basics on circadian rhythm and the role of melatonin
- location - to find out your current sunset/surise times
- running apps - to stop Twilight in selected apps
- write settings - to set back-light
- network - access smartlight (Philips HUE) to shield you household light from blue
Automation (Tasker or other)

I have insonmia so I'm willing to try just about anything to help me sleep. After reading about blue light & problems it can cause, I decided to find an app but there are so many! I tried sone others but Twilight's tutorial & layout made it so simple.I've only used it about a week but I can tell I fall asleep faster & the quality of sleep seems better. Thanx Twilight! Any more suggestions for a good night's sleep???

I actually forgot I had this app for the longest time, even though it was running and doing it's job. When I realized I still had it, I did an update and for a brief period of time the filter was not on. It was in this moment I realized how great this product is. My god smartphone screens are just brutal on the eyes in a dark environment. Twilight really does help mitigate blue light from phone screens. Kudos to the developers. I may be considering buying the paid version soon.

I like the fact that i can solve the whole "blue-lights keeping my brain active" deal, but I've had an issue with my home and lock screen staying deep red all the time despite being set for sun times. The app works okay besides that but it's a huge bother when my family picture is blood red when i hand it to ppl.

Great app! I've been using it for awhile now, and it really helps my eyes (and prevents headaches) when using my phone at night and/or before bed. It's also amazing because the transition from regular screen to filtered screen is really smooth and a gradual shift, so you can ease your eyes. Very customizable as well! Love everything about this app!

Great app. Not just as a blue light filter. As a screen light modifier. Multiple main settings. Color temp in Kelvin & description as relaxing/energizing. Percent adjustments for intensity and screen dimming. Customizable filter settings including sunrise/sunset. Full screen, other options. Ability to pause. There is a real distinction between use and nonuse. The free version has worked well, prevented glare, eye discomfort.

It used to work fine on my old phone, so I installed it on my new one too. Seems like it forgets it's supposed to be running every now and then. Also it does not cover the notifications panel, and the lockscreen. Why? It used to apply to the whole screen on my old phone. Currently looking into alternatives.

I wasn't aware of how much the blue light was hurting my eyes, until after using the Twilight. Now, when my husband is setting night time alarms, etc on his phone @ bedtime, the glare will hurt my eyes & I'll say can you please put on twilight. He does & there's an instant ease! Thank You twilight 😊

Really great app! I can use my phone right up until I go to bed and it's all good. Only complaint is the bar at the very bottom as well as my notifications when I swipe down from the top do not havr the filter on them, so that wakes me up if I forget.

Works fantastic! Hey dev, can you explain why the right button does not work when Twilight is running? For example, if I try to install an app from my SD card with Twilight on, the on screen install button just won't work. Why does this happen? And how can we fix it?

I tried a couple other apps but this one has the best options and does what I want it to without being annoying. I had to uninstall and reinstall it after my phone updated to oreo though because it wasn't filtering everything like I wanted. I'm pretty sure that's on Google though. The app itself otherwise it's great and is working correctly now..

I like how customizable the app is, it's a great design overall and super user friendly. The one thing I wish were better is that the twilight-red-toned-light doesn't apply to the notifications bar when I swipe it down. As my phone's user interface has this as bright white, it is a blinding contrast to the rest of my phone whenever I swipe it down for notifications.

Small and simple app that's easy to use. And it does prevent you from staying awake for too long. There is one problem, though. The filter doesn't cover the home touch buttons on my phone, which could hurt the effectiveness of the app. And some settings (like accessibility settings) could be blocked from turning on while the filter is on.

Just wish there's a way to remove that annoying notification from xiaomi/redmi/mi that's kept on buggering the notification bar telling, you're allowing this app to cover the screen. I know darling, I give that permission. Other than that, this app is perfection. Although there's a lot of features I don't understand, but the ones I do is working as they should.

I've experimented on myself with Twilight - aiming for objectivity as far as is possible. With Twilight turned off I can stay up all night wasting my time on YouTube etc. With the app turned on, the yawns soon start and sleep follows shortly after. It is almost uncanny.

NEW: After a disappointing conversation with the developer, I'm uninstalling permanently. I hope Moto G5s can be compatible again soon. OLD: I have used Twilight since college, and I really love the amount of control over the brightness. As a migraine sufferer, it helps me to be able to use the absolute dimmest setting on both my phone and on Twilight so that I can use phone when I'm so light sensitive. Unfortunately, I have had to uninstall the app because it is slowing my phone down so much.

Wish I found this earlier! I wasn't expecting much but I can definitely see the difference it's making- no more headaches and strain when using it in the dark, overall just so much gentler on your eyes. Highly recommend. Takes a while to get used to the colour saturation since everything looks a bit duller, but I forgot I even had it on after a while. I can't stand having it off now, especially at night.

Really like the app but since I switched to Android 8 the notification menu doesn't get filtered. It's pretty annoying because I use this a lot to check notifications and everytime I get blinded by the light.

Perfect! There's nothing really to complain about. It does make me turn on screen overlay permissions every time I use it, but I can't be sure if that's the fault of the app or my phone. It's very customizable and simple, I'm very grateful to the developers for this App and helping you protect people's eyes!

Oreo 8.0 seems to have broken the app a bit. It does not work with the notification menu or the lock screen (does not filter them). Once that get fixed I can give the app more stars. EDIT: Well apparently it's Googles fault. How lovely!

After a brief tutorial you are presented a few options to setup. You'll need to set either your location or the conditions for activating the red shift (blue filter). 32k is the generic ideal number so pick either 30k or 35k.
