requires following permissions on your android device.

view network connections
Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected.

Allows access to the list of accounts in the Accounts Service.

full network access
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.

read your contacts
Allows the app to read data about your contacts stored on your phone, including the frequency with which you've called, emailed, or communicated in other ways with specific individuals. This permission allows apps to save your contact data, and malicious apps may share contact data without your knowledge.

read the contents of your SD card
Allows the app to read the contents of your SD card.

run at startup
Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allow the app to slow down the overall phone by always running.

control vibration
Allows the app to control the vibrator.

modify or delete the contents of your SD card
Allows the app to write to the SD card.

Tutanota is better than ProtonMail from my experience, it let you create more 📂 folders keep up the good works tutanota team. I'm not sure about custom support services in comparison and I have not contact tutanota about any issues yet. ProtonMail customer support services are suck👎 slow slow like snail 🐌... mail ✉ from my experience, it took them like a week, I almost forgot about the issues. Tutanota are my regularly use email for privacy, keep the govern-mind stop spying on all of us.

  2. Kris A-avatar

Uh, guys, your latest update on Android 6 has rendered the app login a 100% failure. I can't login due to an error popping up at the login screen. Will uninstall to see if that helps, but my experience says it won't help.

  3. J.R.-avatar

Love the interface. Very clean. Has every feature I need. Appreciate that even subject lines are encrypted. And I like the option to send encrypted messages to those that don't have Tuta -- great for sensitive financial docs at tax time. 👍

  4. Mario Scooby-avatar

Tutanota deserves all of the stars for being much better than protonmail (tried latter but horrible customer service) because it's simplistic, easy to login (unlike problems with Google) & lightweight. But problems like no notes feature (can be easily implemented) (yandex has through mail and drive app), no notifications whatsoever, no dark mode (actually its black mode) (like neon mode like Twitter), least recognition by web companies for sign-up like Xiaomi, Spotify. Please look into these 5⭐.

  5. Ralph DeVaney-avatar

I've been reporting for a few weeks now that the Notification Service is still sticking on my Android phone. Until a few weeks ago I never had a problem...had never seen Notification Service running on my device. But now it shows constantly and never actually reports the arrival of new mail. I've been using Tuta for over a year but unless the fix comes soon I may not be much longer. Update: After uninstalling the app, then rebooting my phone, then reinstalling the app it seems to now be working!

  6. Christos Kopidakis-avatar

At first, when I touched the 'new mail' notification, the app would launch with the sign-in form, and my email address already filled-in. This saved me a lot of time, since I only needed to type my password. Recently however, this behaviour changed, and now I need to type my address every-single-time which is quite tiresome using the phone's keyboard. I'd like the app to always remember my email address. That's -2 stars for me.

  7. Daniel Zhou-avatar

I appreciate how Tutanota respect privacy and would pay for privacy, but the poor user experience makes it far from a legit productivity tool. Here are the most prominent pain in the ass for me: a) it takes 10--20 seconds to launch and show my inbox; b) after reading an email, it will apprise to me in another device after hours, then I click it, wait for 10 seconds, and turns out to be an email I read hours ago. It waste my time everyday like that but it is supposed to be a productivity tool.

  8. Steve Mc-avatar

Simple navigation, uncluttered, quick yet relaxing to use. Mail with calendar - watch out protonmail!

  9. iaman liveborn-avatar

App seems to be working fine again after this update, as previous ones were plagued by synching jams. Thank you to developers for their direct communication hepling find and issue i was having trouble with. Tutanota email itself cant be faulted either way. Will return to 5* rating for the app after allowing some time&use to see if the synching error is fixed for good now.

  10. Simon Kruspe-avatar

It seems like this application might be trying to ICMP ping the server before actually connecting. This is a TERRIBLE idea, as many types of proxies (HTTPS, SOCKS, including transparent proxy scenarios) that we are using here in Russia do not support ICMP at all. Please fix this.

  11. Mike-avatar

I can't send emails anymore. I've received a message saying that I exceeded the limit of allowed emails. I've tried for a couple of days, it still doesn't work. What's happening? I think I know why but I don't know why Tutanota considers it to be spam. I received an email from a colleague of mine who had sent the email to a large group of people including me and when I clicked on reply to all, that's when the problem started. So I hope you can take this feedback into consideration

  12. Kevin-avatar

Great! Easy to use and understand menus and options.

  13. Charlie hill-avatar

It's ok I suppose reason for my doubt is the time it takes to log in after a notification and the email is not there is a bit long wait for it and there it is .my inbox is reasonably small and I'm guessing the time to decrypt vs size will be considerable if the inbox had 1 gig of email ??! Most noticible on android ,

  14. Family Tab-avatar

Needs swipe to advance! I have to back out of a message to read next instead of a simple swipe left/right to advance or go back from within a message? Clunky. Look at K9, Aqua or any other mail client and get some ideas of how this should work

  15. Xavier Sanchez-avatar

Works great, only missing feature (at least in free version) is the ability to select all emails when I want to delete a large amount of emails. I need to select one by one and then delete.

  16. Logan Barnett-avatar

Decent app but the calendar is not updated enough. Easter Sunday is not put in there and it needs more reminder options and it needs more repeat options. Also needs a calendar widget.

  17. Jeremy Yachimowski-avatar

    Jeremy Yachimowski

I wanted to email you before I got a paid subscription, but you have to already be a paid user before you can ask a simple question via email (no, I do not want to post it to Reddit). Way too restrictive. I like the Aliases and that's about it. I want a paid email app w/aliases that fully integrates with my entire phone (I have over 600 apps that I would like a good amount of to communicate with my email; various wallet apps, Bixby, Google Assistant; I guess some want Tutanota, I don't.

  18. Brad Ford-avatar

Update:the app is still not fixed and now does not open from notifications? Still erractic behaviour as mentioned previously. I cannot recommend this service to others at this moment in time.

  19. PC-avatar

FYI. Been trying to update my desktop app for a week now but my virus scanner was blocking the update. I just tried to do it again today in my virus scan notified me that it was infected by a Win32:MdeClass virus

  20. Speiros-avatar

Great app. I appreciate the ideology to have a truly private email. I mean we don't send our letters without envelopes and with dirty organizations like Google and Yahoo selling our privacy...frankly you are stupid if you don't consider your privacy.

  21. Alex Howard-avatar

Love you guys and your persistent hard work. HUGE REQUEST: 1) Add ability to protect your mailbox with password/touch ID. To keep nosy people out of my mailbox. 2) Force/require a password when removing a registered 2FA, MFA, or U2F token from your account settings. Otherwise anyone can just open the app and remove all registered 2FA tokens from your account without any verification from the end user. Keep up the amazing job.

  22. sznmth-avatar

It is OK, but searching for folders stopped working and now I have to scroll to move a message to another folder.

  23. OKINYI PHILIP-avatar

Is tutanota app working? I just created account and I have to wait for 48 hrs for me to do anything with it. I need to use my account. The other one I created after a friend referred me also never worked. in fact its now months and it never worked. I don't even know if it was ever created on your servers. Is there a solution now or any alternative for secure mails? I can share with you the username. I need to use it.

  24. Recstore Mitchell-avatar

Try to sign in, but always have message that I'm offline. With lte, wifi and 3g. Nice...... UPD: Working with VPN)

  25. Ashwini Shah-avatar

It is easy to use and such simple functions, the UI are awesome.

  26. Beter Briffin-avatar

It logged me out and then tells me the credentials are invalid? I did save the password on my online password manager so how could it possible be incorrect??? I did copy paste it, it doesn't make sense

  27. Flavio Alberto Pinto Portela-avatar

    Flavio Alberto Pinto Portela

Simple, useful, straightforward. It's a keeper. It would be useful to have a fingerprint lock. ;)

  28. Eric Graff-avatar

Amazing love this and hate Google. Slowly moving away from Google to this platform and well as proton mail and mailfence. Done with Google.

  29. Mark B-avatar

The bugs in Tutanota are legion: endlessly & perpetually syncing; notifications not working properly; tortoise-like speed; etc. Worst of all, Tutanota aliases display YOUR REAL NAME – this defeats the entire purpose of having an alias! Yet Tutanota promotes the use of aliases to unsuspecting users, when they're fully aware that they provide no additional privacy whatsoever. And despite having YEARS to fix the bug, they've allowed this situation to continue. What a monstrous betrayal of trust!

  30. Maximillianrex Carpediem-avatar

    Maximillianrex Carpediem

My one gripe is that there is no "select all" function. Otherwise it's a fine app.

  31. Rubel Khan-avatar

This is best secure email i ever seen. I like this mail for most privacy secured and easy to use. Thanks Developers for making awesome mail service.

  32. Et Taylor-avatar

Very good so far... app needs an alphanumeric password lock option though Edit...upgrading my rating because of dev planning to implement feature

  33. Ramesh Kumar-avatar

Good interface. I loved the free version of encrypted calendar.

  34. Shree Vathsa-avatar

After new update syncing notification won't go even after data is off. I tried reinstalling the app.

  35. Hamdy Obaid-avatar

With the most recent update, the app doesn't show notifications of incoming messages.

  36. Aurelian I-avatar

Is it possible in next version to zoom in page? Its annoying

  37. rb ursus-avatar

Still constant "syncing notifications" message. At least can log in now.

A very promising e-mail for anonymity and privacy centred e-mail app.

  39. N B-avatar

Great app, but sometimes notifications don't show up.

  40. Pat-avatar

Very clean experience. Secure and simple. Love it

  41. Jake Clark-avatar

Apriceate privacy google doesnt give. Just wish it was faster.

  42. MJ Habib-avatar

Just need a pin or password or pattern to protect the app when phone is unlocked.

  43. Martin Streďanský-avatar

Liking the app experience so fas, but I would like to see you guys implement some AppLock feature with a pin/biometrics.

  45. Jason K-avatar

please add a feature to check sender's full email address to prevent phishing scam.

  46. John Smith-avatar

Whenever I unlock my phone it starts showing a syncing notification that never disappears and on top of that it doesn't actually sync anything, ever. Only when I open the app it pointlessly shows a new mail notification and the syncing notification finally disappears, only to reappear a few minutes later after closing the app (while the phone is still unlocked) and again doesn't sync anything, ever. Since multiple people already reported this bug why don't you fix it instead of asking for logs??

  47. Oussama Wop-avatar

Best app ever, it does respect privacy i really use dialy.

  48. Humble Homie-avatar

*Update* It only took them 7 weeks to implement the request. They're are a great company that listen to their consumers. I'm glad I left gmail and found Tutanota. *Old review* The navigator bar upsate really made the application more fluent. If possible, I would like to see holidays added to the calander too, and an opotion to open the calander to calander instead of agenda on startup.

  49. B C Dautreuil-avatar

Can't get a better email service. Thank y'all.

  50. X L-avatar

Unfortunately the AES encryption is only 128 bit. They do store your email on their servers , yes encrypted but they are always in their servers. It's Germany there was a strong privacy but not anymore nowadays. Tutanota does not protect against MITM. I unstalled it unfortunately. Do not get me wrong I believe tutanota has a great potential but needs to improve a lot. Then I do not know how can you make quantum resisten emails?? Do you know how a quantum pc works? Do you know his potential?

  51. 'Markus' Harrison-avatar

    'Markus' Harrison

Great concept. Fix Bug and will give 5 stars. "Bug" is really just that the time delay for sensing a press and hold action is too short. So EVERY TIME I scroll through my emails, it goes into multi-message selection mode. This is annoying. Please fix. PS: And maybe get people of all ages to beta test, not just 26 year old programmers. Not doing this is probably how "bug" happened.

  52. Noseberg Shekelstein-avatar

    Noseberg Shekelstein

Buggy, slow and not secure anymore

  53. Google User Too-avatar

    Google User Too

Nice app that is very s-l-o-w opening. Some emails do not fit the phone page. Those emails run down the left side of my screen. Double tap to zoom, in hopes of making the page fit, equals a page way to big. Cant 2-finger expand page when needed. No way to advance to next email after deleting, or moving a mail. Could be a real nice app, love the security, just rough around the edges yet.

  54. D C-avatar

App always ends up as one of the higher battery drainers even when I haven't even opened it. Also regularly have delayed notifications (and yes I have turned off battery optimisation, I do know what I'm doing, and my device gets restarted every day). It has been pointed out many times by many users and you are in total denial! Moving to the other well known encrypted email provider, who's app doesn't drain much battery at all and who's notifications are reliable!

  55. Terminal Frost-avatar

Great app. Love the dark mode..thanks!

  56. mathias neumann-avatar

Tried it several times to make sure all is correct. The responds was every time the same. "Invalid Email credentials" of an account I have just loged in from a Browser to see whether it is true what you say. Uninstalled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  57. Melanie Green-avatar

Moving to a greener alternative, so far all good but I find the display makes email fonts tiny and there's no way to zoom in or enlarge them. I guess it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make at the moment but it is difficult to read and accurately tap links when the writing is so small and I'd rather not have to enlarge the font on my phone jyst to suit one app!

  58. Liam Lee-Hynes-avatar

I am enjoying using this for the most part, but notifications seem to have a mind of their own. Sometimes I will be notified when I receive an email sometimes I don't and very recently I have not been notified at all. I check my emails at least every other day, but working notifications would be a huge help.

  59. Ron Kocsis-avatar

The app is so secure that it opens to a blank screen and even I can't read my email! But seriously, it worked well until recently, and I can still use the browser to access my email. Since I uninstalled and reinstalled, the blank screen has prevented me from logging into the app. Thanks for the reply. I'm looking forward to using the app again.

  60. Thaddeus D-avatar

Sometimes the notification about sync remains in the status bar when Internet is off. But very good, keep up the good work. God bless. I have sent logs.

  61. Brooks Red-avatar

Tutanota is a phenomenal privacy-oriented email provider. It is a little less polished than Protonmail, but I like it because you can sign up for an account completely anonymously, and they never ask for a phone number or alternate email address. You can even sign up and use it with TOR. This is how it should be. Sometimes there are minor glitches, and the interface takes a while to get used to, but let me tell you: Tutanota really does care about privacy. They are not corporate sell-outs.

  62. Sushil Singh-avatar

Email body text is too small to read on my Galaxy S9 and it's not zoomable. Cant find any option to increase font size. This is a bummer for me. Also it takes about 4 or 5 seconds to startup, most other email apps like gmail, protonmail starts in 2 seconds or less. Otherwise great app.

  63. Raistlin Majere-avatar

    Raistlin Majere

App was great even at the free tier but randomly can no longer sign in even on the website! It seems as if somehow my credentials have change with no input from me or my devices and now am locked out of the account with no way back in. I had used the maximum length password permitted and so somebody cracking that much entropy is beyond any reasonable plausibility. Glad I did not have a paid account or I would be livid! Even the recovery code does not work. :/ +1 Star for devs responding.

Thanks for the effort put in by the developer, I have the app on my phone I installed it a few days ago, I haven't been able to get into it ever since, I'm thinking my device might also be a hindrance because it is running Android 6, anyway I'd appreciate some feedback... Thanks again...

The dark mode colours, the new UI, everything seems awesome as I wished. The latest update brings a down button which is very helpful. Thanks for everything in last few months. Only thing left - In terms of functionality - self destructing emails should be introduced.

  70. Corey W-avatar

Suggestion, please fix... Could you please fix so that I can Pinch/Zoom on emails, also please have the ability to always have Images in emails show.

    Doesn't work unless u want a @tutanota email, which I do not

  73. Franco Lewison-avatar

This is by far the best mail provider. Regarding contacts and calendars it is far behind Microsoft Exchange though.

  74. Uli Krischtan-avatar

This last update they wiped out all my stored passwords. Can't get into my email, huge waste of my time when they don't have access to sending the password reset to another email address. Do not use, once your password is lost your email is totally lost.

  76. David Bajt-avatar

Don't know how to cross check claim of Tutanota that it has encrypted & sent email securely, whenever I put password before hitting send. If claims are believed to be true then this the ONLY FREE PRIVACY EMAIL SERVICE, though comes with limited features. I respect Germans for their prudent, precious, privacy vision & values.

  88. Xavier Fonseca-avatar
