I will say that it has a more coherent storyline than The Room series, so far. The game can be frustrating. Clues allover the place and it feel like some things just don't connect or make sense. I got ahead of the game in the room where you do the moon positions. The game would not let me move ahead and I had to start that chapter over. Still a problem. Put the game down for a month. When I came back to it, it seems the game reset itself and I finished. I had to use the walkthrough at times.

Pretty fun. Beautiful scenery and artwork, and a great tactical feel to the machinery. A lot of hunting for that "one missing thing," which gets frustrating. Some puzzles I solved by brute force or accident, but there were a few gems in there. Felt pretty derivative of The Room with the lens mechanics. But still a lovely experience.

Update 3. Other problem, some mechanisms very unresponsive and Oculus randomly stops working and you can't see anything. I'm less happy then when I began this game. Disappointed, as all bugs should be gone by now Will have to reconsider buying the next in the series. Also , some clues have no logic attached and only solvable by trial and error. This are definite weaknesses in the game compared to the Room series.

  4. Karl Kurz-avatar

    Karl Kurz

Loved the story, artwork, sound and variety. I did find a few of the puzzles too difficult for me to figure out without copping out and looking at a walkthrough, but I am not the most visual-spatial person. Looking forward to more puzzles!

Addicting! Struggled with some of the clues but thought it was well done otherwise. Like many others, started this after completing The Room series and found it to be somewhat comparable! The ending left me scratching my head a bit but I'm assuming it will take from there with 2. Or at least hoping.

This game is beautifully designed, but as some have mentioned, not all the puzzles are necessarily intuitive, leaving you to try and solve them by trial & error. Then, another issue is that any given puzzle does not necessarily lead you to the next. In other words, you may find yourself picking up pieces/clues to the various puzzles outside of the required order. So, you may find yourself solving puzzles as you get further along into the chapter, then you come across a puzzle that you are certain you are performing correctly, but it just won't work. As it turns out, there was some piece that you were expected to already have in your inventory that you somehow missed, and there is just no telling where that piece may be, and the hints are not always so clear. For example, the hint may call for you to go to a specific location or object, calling that object or location by a name that you may not be able to identify. So, you go to one of the online tutorials to help you find your way, only to realize you would have NEVER found that object on your own. I’ve read some reviews where some players have complained that not all the mechanisms work; they do, but can be very specific in regard to what they need, where things can be found, and what exactly to do with these things once you have them. I would say that this is probably what makes the game so challenging, if not impossible, without good references. You will need a lot of patience to get through this game, even while using all the hints. Still, I think it is a particularly good game, but the sequel is much more intuitive and does a better job of making sure any given puzzle leads to the next in a more coherent manner, and is easier to understand where you are supposed to go and what you are supposed to do.

I tried this one after finishing The Room games. It's good for what it is, and in a similar style, but I found it much more fiddly, often having to make several attempts to manipulate an object to complete a task. Also I needed to increase the screen brightness quite a lot to be able to see what was going on. So, reasonably fun and challenging, but with some frustrating issues.

  8. Sienna Riehle-avatar

    Sienna Riehle

As narrative-driven puzzle games go, this one is okay. Nothing to write home about, but enjoyable enough, if you're looking for something to do. It's more difficult than some other games out there, which may be nice for some of you, but the gameplay and story are not as good as other games, in my opinion. I only unlocked 3 out of 6 Achievements, and I may not go back to find the other 3.

  9. Brian Frisbie-avatar

    Brian Frisbie

Feels and looks like 'The Room' but despite the similarities on the surface, I really prefer the science-based story line. You get emotionally involved of taking sides of "supposed" good vs bad. It's a nice balance of challenging but logical puzzles that follow a story, not just puzzles for the sake of puzzles. Nice work Dev's!

  10. Maggie-avatar

I loved all four The Room games but I hate this game. Super frustrating controls. I am constantly frantically tapping and swiping trying to get things to move, when I eventually ask for a hint it turns out I'm in the right place but wasn't pulling in quite the right direction. Feel extremely limited in what I can look at. Game looks beautiful but is just too aggravating to play.

  11. Bee Bentall-avatar

    Bee Bentall

Compelling game, took me a good 4 hours to get through it so I consider it good value. Did have to use a fair few hints as some parts involved a little guesswork. The bit that stumped me the most was a 3x3 sliding puzzle! Would recommend for fans of escape and puzzle games, lots of variety!

  12. William Cheng-avatar

    William Cheng

Enjoyable puzzle game with great graphics and animation, interesting puzzles that aren't too frustrating (and with helpful hint system), and cool tidbits about the real Leonardo and his inventions.

  13. Ian P-avatar

    Ian P

It's a blatant ripoff of The Room series, but the puzzles become infuriating due to the clunky and obtuse game mechanics in later levels. With The Room series I would try to avoid using hints, but in this game you'll use all of the hints and still be tapping and swiping everything until you discover something moveable. It has high production value, but struggles to provide unique puzzles that aren't stolen from The Room series.

  14. Reket Something-avatar

    Reket Something

Great concept but the execution is very bad - the touch controls are not good at all and I find that I have to keep tapping or swiping multiple times to get something to work. In the end it's more frustration than it's worth. So far, the puzzles are just ok. I would not recommend unless better controls are included.

  15. Saurabh Mandal-avatar

    Saurabh Mandal

I loved this game, very nice quality of gameplay mechanics, and I love the sound design, it feels great with all the moving gears and handle sounds... Makes the gameplay even better!

  16. darklyger64-avatar

Good puzzle game. Some puzzles are tricky and I am still wondering why you have to use or switch between 2 separate lenses. I haven't finished it yet, but I'll give it a 3.5. I like the Room series better, but this is also a fun (and a bit frustrating - control wise) puzzle game.

  17. sandra allen-avatar

    sandra allen

The game is fantastic. Plenty of puzzles to solve, but the hints are well timed to prevent giving up. Does it have to be so dark?? I no longer have great eyesight and struggle to make out what is there a lot of the time. Love tge game and will do next one. Just too dark..

  18. Lauren McCoy-avatar

    Lauren McCoy

Great puzzle game. Some puzzles are really tricky at the end, but in my opinion, they all make sense even if you can't figure them out in the moment. The graphics are great, story is interesting, beautiful artwork. I knew after one chapter I'd also be purchasing the second one - so worth it!!

  19. Slivress Sliver-avatar

    Slivress Sliver

In the same category as The Room series. I rarely give 5stars. This barely made 4stars, though as the probable first in this particular game series, I expect improvement with further sequels. Kinda clunky in areas, but not a bad puzzle game, worth the buy to me, only because now there is a 2nd Da Vinci out to continue the tale!

  20. Graeme Morgan-avatar

    Graeme Morgan

Best mobile game I've played. Some real head scratches! Music reminded me of the game The Talos Principle - beautiful and peaceful. Guessed some of the challenges but never read online to finish. Similar to The Room series without the demonic undertone. Looking forward to the sequel. Well done Blue Brain Games for this gem !!

  21. Erik Ketcherside-avatar

    Erik Ketcherside

It's gorgeous, and worth it if only for that. The solutions are sometimes repetitive, there's sometimes a bit too much hand-holding (and other times, not enough!). It's not "The Room," but it's close.

  22. Amillia petrea-avatar

    Amillia petrea

Its a little challenging, but who don't like a great challenge. The game has a great story. Good hints, interact with lots of stuff and awesome puzzles.

  23. Karmina Kilayko-avatar

    Karmina Kilayko

Controls are not great. The camera/view would move to much when I was trying to manipulate something. I mean narratively great game. The puzzles are great but its irritating when your trying to solve a puzzle then your camera angle shift so you have to reposition and start processing what to do again.

  24. Adam Klinger-avatar

    Adam Klinger

More like 4.5, but I'll give it the extra .5 because I can tell it was done as a labor of love. The ending obviously makes you have to purchase the 2nd, if you don't plan to buy that, don't play this as the ending will leave you scratching your head. Sure, mechanics were clunky, but there were only a few puzzles where the flaws really bothered me. The pipes in the pipe room were the WORST!

  25. John Oberly-avatar

    John Oberly

Cool puzzle game to play when bored. Took me about 3 hours to complete casually. Graphics are great. Some puzzles are a bit random but clues will help you out if you just can't seem to tap on the right place. Definitely hoping for a sequel.

  26. MilosYoung-avatar

I loved the story, it's really immersive and interesting. The graphics are amazing, and the puzzles are challenging. Really enjoyed playing this game, good quality thought! Recommend to anyone who enjoys puzzles and escape room type of games!

  27. Bonnie Boyd-avatar

    Bonnie Boyd

I thought this would be The Room games. It was at first but then I got to an unbeatable puzzle with too much zooming in and out involved. It is one thing to make a game challenging and another to make it so aggravating that it is no longer fun. Don't waste your money or time on this game.

  28. Tracey-lee Featherstone-avatar

    Tracey-lee Featherstone

Brilliantly challenging, yet not frustratingly. The graphics are stunning. Well worth it... Thank you.. I am going to go from here straight to get the 2nd one 👍👍👍

  29. Jessica Bodily-avatar

    Jessica Bodily

I might have rated this higher, but playing it after playing The Room games makes me really see how glitchy it is and hard to move things. Disappointing for me, but I can see how people might still enjoy it. I personally would rather play The Room games again, than play this one.

  30. Sebastian Sienra-avatar

A few puzzles I had troubles with but overall it's a good game and the second installment is even better. I have no issue giving them my money as it seems to be going into improving the quality of the games. Hope they end up making more :)

  32. Robert Atler-avatar

    Robert Atler

I love this game. I've recommended it to a number of friends who also enjoy the Fireproof "The Room" series and i see it as their main competitor. Genuinely great gameplay and well constructed narrative...and the sequel is a banger too.

Great game! Fun, absorbing, challenging. Maybe lit just a bit too dark? I know about mysterious & atmosphere & mood lighting, but sometimes I couldn't even see the focus of the current search. Please make more! I will play whatever the lighting!

  34. Arthur Adams-avatar

    Arthur Adams

Similar to The Room series of games. So far, the puzzles have a similar level of difficulty. Parts of the game take place in quite dark areas. I found that turning my screen brightness to its maximum setting helped to see all of the detail.

  35. Cliff Shields-avatar

    Cliff Shields

Awesome game. Didn't mind the difficulty at times moving mechanisms. The game is to well crafted for petty criticisms. Not quite through with the first one yet as the game is satisfyingly long. Can't wait to begin DaVinci Ii

  36. sue pokornik-beyer-avatar

    sue pokornik-beyer

beautiful graphics but very unintuitive controls if you miss by a millimeter you can't complete the puzzle and if the door/case isn't opened all the way you can't finish the puzzle either basically it's a locked room puzzle . the slide puzzles are the worst cause it doesn't like letting you slife the pieces

  37. Richard Hain-avatar

A similar game to The Room series. Great graphics, challenging puzzles and an interesting sroryline. I haven't decided whether it's better than The Room games but so far it is worthy challenger.

Amazing! 7 hrs 52mins (with breaks in between). I'm only said the puzzles are over. i was hoping to actually be able to catch up to Leonardo, but the game was super addicting nevertheless. I loved it!

This is a stunning game. The graphics are beautiful and the puzzles are challenging but solvable. I also like how the music has a renaissance touch to it. It is also a good length for the price. Kudos to the designers and creators!

  43. Jumbo Jym-avatar

Astonishing, nothing less. Very complex puzzles and very atmospheric. You are completely drawn into the game, I am left wanting more games of this quality.

  45. Lee C-avatar

My only complaint is I have to turn the brightness on my phone right up to be able to see anything. That is my only complaint. Great game. Challenging, and the hints are not dead giveaways.

  46. Aradhana-avatar

The game progress gets deleted after sometime and one has to start again from the beginning.

  47. Sarah Price-avatar

    Sarah Price

The mechanics of the puzzles are good, but a number of them suffer from "I know I have to do a thing here. But the item I'm poking isn't responding. Ooh I had to drag *that* way and not this way." Other stuff feels very pixel-hunty to find the correct place to tap to zoom in so you can interact with a scene.

  48. Sandra Taylor-avatar

    Sandra Taylor

I enjoyed the game, but at times it was very difficult to understand what I needed to do. I had to look at online walk through's a number of times otherwise I would have given it a 5.

  49. Laura Howard-avatar

    Laura Howard

Over too soon, but great game to waste 7 hours on over a weeks time. Hints helped a lot when I was stuck, but sometimes even those didn't help. Needed online help twice. Beautiful game with easy controls and inventive puzzles.

  50. Geri Doyle-avatar

    Geri Doyle

My fave game genre; 🤗 full of mysterious gadgets and contraptions that you have to find parts for in order to make them work, and so discover another puzzle to solve! all in weird and grand industrial/steam punk/medieval settings. And you can take your time, move at your own pace, but necessarily slow, and thoughtful of you'll miss another discovery of clue 🤔 Plus there are handy hints for when you get stuck which I inevitably do from time to time 😅 Game heaven for me! 💜

Great game. Mostly. Twice during this game I had to turn on hints because you just don't know what the heck the programmers were thinking when they design puzzles, and it's not always obvious what to do or where to look. Once the frustration sets in, it's time for the hints. And two puzzles I solved by complete trial and error, too, not completely sure how, but accepting it as a win. But for the most part it was a really enjoyable and super addicting game.

Nearly impossible to clear with a guide. Most of the puzzles are spin or tap things and hope they work, the direction is garbage, the path is almost never clear for more than a few seconds, and the puzzles that aren't guessing are bottom of the barrel scraping that I could play in a million other better games. Dont waste your money

Not quite on par with The Room, but very close. Puzzles were a little too disconnected at times, and controls were a little clunky at times (as others have mentioned) but never unplayable. I just found myself needing hints more than I would have liked, and often found that I would never have made the connection because there just wasn't really a logical thread connecting things. Overall a great game though.

Cheap rip-off of the room games. Controls are really glitchy. You have to tap a lot because you could do the same thing 100 times and it will only work if you touch the screen just right. Story line so far wasn't to bad. Really disappointed!

The game is great but it's filled with bugs. Many times the have doesn't respond to the actions needed to go further. Either the inventory won't fit in the right place where it's supposed to, or the actions needed to move items will not happen no matter how much you try! Currently stuck at chapter 6 because how much ever I try, I am unable to move the gems on the locker table in those rotating wheels. Every time I try to slide the gem, the wheel rotates.. it's frustrating!!!

As good as (if not better than) "The Room" series. The graphics are stunning, gameplay is gripping and exciting. My only issue, and it's a small one, is with the touch controls. It's almost as if you're playing on a PC and your mouse sensitivity is too high. Also requires you to be meticulously accurate when placing, rotating, or sliding different puzzle pieces. Like I said, this is a minute problem and should not stop you from buying this brilliantly executed game.

Having played all of "The Room" games to date("Old Sins"), one can tell that this game borrows heavily from that series...but falls short in its execution. The good: The graphics, the story, and backdrop are very good. The bad: Painfully delicate controls makes it hard to navigate or solve some puzzles, and some puzzles are so absolutely devious and layered you wonder how you could have figured them out at all. (At least hints are unlimited.) Overall, good, but not a 'must play'. 3/5

A fairly good mechanical puzzle game. There were a number of instances where I "missed" an object or location or action because there was no response to my tapping and sliding. The shiny, reflective textures in dark environments are also visually confusing - I had to crank brightness to max. It often felt like groping around in the dark, which isn't much fun (if you're playing a puzzle game.)

Well-done and challenging puzzle game. Decent length and worth the $. Only feedback is that the controls are sometimes difficult on a mobile phone. Like you are trying to manipulate/change an object an it just keeps moving...then you think there's nothing you can do with it. Then a clue tells you to do something with it. Grr. But overall great.

The easiest way to describe this game is a less enjoyable version of The Room series. It seems everything good about this game comes with a caveat. The places where the user can move are not intuitive and can hinder your chances of solving a puzzle. The lens mechanics work fine, but the first one is badly implemented (you can't always see when it works) and the second is used as a call and response device - barely a puzzle. I wish I could like this game, but it's issues mean that I can't.

Skip this, play the sequel. It's clunky, the controls aren't smooth or user friendly and won't accept stylus input at all - in a game where you're sometimes not sure if you're touching the right thing having it not work can waste a LOT of time. The graphics are great (though dark - don't play this outside) but the story doesn't make a lot of sense and the puzzles don't work very logically at all, there's too much guesswork and no brains at times. Game 2 solved all of this, spend your money there

  129. Ruth O'Connell-avatar

    Ruth O'Connell

Some really challenging puzzles and a great aesthetic. The only thing that prevents it from being 5 stars is it can be quite physically difficult to interact with the objects. My smartphone has a large screen, but there were still lots of moments where wheels would rotate the wrong way or I'd be zooming in and out uncontrollably... It's not quite as good as The Room, because you don't explore the spaces in such a naturalistic way, but it's still a very enjoyable few hours for a couple of quid.

I finished The Room game series by Fireproof Games (go look them up!!) and didn't think there was anything else like it out there. When this was suggested to me I was delighted to find another complicated puzzle game that was challenging and compelling. The controls are occasionally off and the hints sometimes annoyingly obvious, but the overall game was fantastic!

The touch locations are too specific. I've had to use hints multiple times because although I've tapped on a location previously, apparently I wasn't precise enough. It's irritating.

Good, nearly great. Interesting puzzles, beautiful graphics, good soundtrack. Story is a bit thin, maybe it will play out in 2. Problem is some of the puzzles are really tricky to manipulate using a smartphone (pipe 1 in final chapter is a pain!!) and the game was too dark at times, as in not enough light to see. But great value, long play time if you don't rely on hints all the time.

excellent puzzle game. i only wish the writing on the letters could be enlarged as it was very hard to read the size of the script...also the script for the hints was hard too for me....and I have 20.20!

I agree with the complaints about the controls, puzzles, etc, that are in the comments here. Nevertheless the art and the cleverness of the displays and machines of da Vinci rendered here is overwhelming. I definitely will buy the follow-up. So much represents da Vinci's work in an accurately historical way. I'm now reading Walter Isaacson's recent biography of da Vinci and see more tie-ins that I had missed.

Fun though more challenging than I anticipated at times. I'm a fan of 3D/mechanical puzzle games so this was right up my alley but some clues were a bit too obscure/out of sight, which was quite frustrating, but that's part of the game I suppose! Nice/fluid graphics and movement. (3h40m, played intermittently)

Fun and Challenging as EXPECTED Beautiful graphics, sounds and overall gameplaykept me coming back until completion. So sad refund are being given to people like Oliver Burksfield, for being beaten. Or, is it outfitted, I'm not sure. Either way, if the game runs all the way through to a specific point, then it's not the games fault.

Yeaaaaah. Not a great game. I've played The Room series and this is just not half as good, sorry. The idea is there, the implementation is poor. The controls are not great, some of the puzzles are not logical, the ending is pathetic. And I paid for the game. Not worth it to be honest. I'd rather replay The Room. To the game's credit, the length is good. It is quite lengthy.

Menu Style & Game Play Mechanics seems be copied from "The Room" series, but the puzzles aren't as creative and innovative as The Room games. Just finished the game, a decent effort but the puzzles aren't very challenging and the over use of Oculi feels like the game is holding your hand throughout. Lighting is a bit poor, controls feel weird at certain places.

At 1st glance it's like The Room, which is why I bought this. My issue is it removes player autonomy from the game and the complexity of tasks & explorability isn't there. The Room is such a success b/c is the tasks are rarely linear, multiple areas to explore & find artifacts and you're working on several tasks at once. In HDaV, you find & use an item immediately. The puzzles are great, but there's no dynamics. It's all one note. Pick it up, use it here. You're forced along a set path...Meh.

Well it kept me from sleeping because of the curiousity it brought. I will agree with some comments on the range of skills levels for the puzzles, however it's balanced appropriately and if you do get stuck, there are hints. The story for what it was is intriguing and I did find myself wanting to immediately know what the next part was like. This does fall into other games similar to the Room, however the depth of knowledge into a historical figure does change the way you think and interact.

Some of the puzzles are simple, whereas some make absolutely no sense whatsoever. I don't know if it's an issue with me just not understanding the game, but it's got to the point where I just wait for the hints. Even with the hints, I've had trouble. I whizzed through The Room series, so I'm pretty sure it's not a problem on my end. Otherwise, the game looks nice, could do with being brighter as I've failed to see a number of things even with my brightness up to full.

GREAT GAME FOR DETERMINED PEOPLE THAT LIKE BRAIN CHALLENGING PUZZLES! This game really works your brain. You must figure out where items are hidden & what order you have to do various tasks in. There are many levels & a great variety of brain teasers. The last chapter was a little too difficult imo. After all of the hard work completing the game, I was disappointed w/ the anticlimactic ending & lack of dialog explaining what happened to you at the end. That is why I gave 4 stars. Good job guys!

I was excited to play this because I loved The Room games and this kept popping up as a recommendation, but I didnt find it as fun to play as The Room. I feel like some of the puzzles you just had to guess at and not all of them had a clear way to solve them which made me have to find a website with a playthrough to help me when I was stuck. I really wanted to like this game but I found myself more frustrated with it than enjoying it most of the time.

Engrossing, engaging storyline with multi faceted puzzles of varying complexity, set in beautifully rendered scenes. Artwork enhances experience, making load time between new areas worth a few extra seconds. Movement is intuitive, hint system doesn't spoil gameplay, sound FX & music are well executed. Rare I buy app games (I'm a MYST kid) but enjoyed this so much was happy to wait for & purchase the next installment. Equally highly recommended.

Really great! Some puzzles are challenging, but not overly so, hints are very helpful and subtle. A couple of times I was stuck cause I knew what to do, but just couldn't do it, which I consider a very good thing for a puzzle, makes you concentrate and really think. Story is simple but interesting. Looking forward to the sequel.

Exceptional Game!!! Beautiful Graphics & Brilliant Puzzles throughout the inventions!!! I was in wonder just seeing into the genius of Leonardo Da Vinci's mind come to life!!! I would highly recommend this game ... It can be difficult at times, but with perseverance & a lot of brain work & the occasional sneak peak into a walk-through guide ... It was really enjoyable!!! Thank You for this ... Can't wait to play the 2nd game!!!

Wanted to like this. Graphics were good, and the DaVinci backdrop seemed interesting, but i found the controls EXTREMELY clumsy, and the game progression often unclear unless i used hints. Too much time wasted on bad zooms and adjusting found objects. A well-designed, difficult puzzle is enjoyable, but a sloppily-designed-and-therefore-difficult puzzle is upsetting. I played through all four The Room games without any of the phone-smashing frustration this game caused in the first room alone.

The House of Da Vinci looks like The Room series of games, but is not as fun and doesn't have their much more polished gameplay. The puzzles and controls are not intuitive and it's often unclear what in the game is interactive, or how you're supposed to interact with the various parts of the game. On the positive side, the game does look good.

Lost in this game was an understatement. I got so immersed in this once I started playing. Perhaps that's why I think it is too short. It's very dark, so I found it difficult to play in direct sunlight. Full price for a game I can complete in a weekend seems a little steep, but great value when found at reduced price. Need more games like this.
