Debemos advertir al lector los siguientes puntos sobre el método de transliteración para una comprensión cabal del texto hebreo transliterado.

1. La transliteración se basa en la obra de los más eruditos rabinos Sefaraditas de México y de Estados Unidos, por lo tanto esta pronunciación del hebreo es la más pura pronunciación Sefaradita.

2. Se ha adoptado la combinación “kh” para representar la Kaf sin dáguesh, por ser ésta la forma más precisa y la que se utiliza en las obras eruditas. Tiene la ventaja de que hace una diferencia clara entre la Khaf y la Jet, la cual representamos siempre con la Jota española.

4. Una comilla sencilla representa siempre la letra Álef (la Áyin se representa con una diéresis encima de la vocal correspondiente). Excepción de esto es la comilla sencilla entre dos eles. Por ejemplo, en hal’lel hemos añadido la comilla para indicar la separación de las dos eles en la pronunciación; de otro modo algunos lectores tenderían a pronunciar hallel como se pronuncia en castellano hallé o valle, lo cual sería incorrecto. Obviamente las demás consonantes reduplicadas se transcriben sin comilla, pero las reduplicamos en la transliteración castellana.

5. La Guímel suena siempre como la G en gato, nunca como la G en gente. La hemos representado siempre con una G sencilla (sin “u”) por sencillez, pero debe dársele siempre el sonido fuerte.

6. Es imperativo que se observe cuidadosamente la acentuación de cada palabra hebrea, pues la acentuación correcta es indispensable para el entendimiento apropiado del Texto. En esta obra, toda palabra que no tenga acento escrito es aguda, se acentúa en la última sílaba. Toda palabra llana, esdrújula o sobresdrújula lleva su acento escrito.

7. Hubiéramos preferido poner todo el texto transliterado en letras mayúsculas, para imitar la uniformidad del hebreo, que no tiene letras minúsculas, pero el ponerlo en minúsculas tiene la ventaja de que podemos poner inicial mayúscula en los nombres propios para una identificación más precisa de los mismos.

Sin embargo, no hemos puesto mayúsculas en ningún otro caso, ni signos de puntuación. Esto se reserva para la traducción.

We must warn the reader of the following points about the transliteration method for a thorough understanding of the transliterated Hebrew text.

1. The transliteration is based on the work of the most learned Sepharadite rabbis of Mexico and the United States, therefore this pronunciation of Hebrew is the purest Sepharadite pronunciation.

2. The combination "kh" has been adopted to represent the Kaf without dáguesh, as this is the most accurate form and that used in scholarly works. It has the advantage that it makes a clear difference between the Khaf and the Jet, which we always represent with the Spanish Jota.

4. A single quote always represents the letter Aleph (the Ajin is represented by an umlaut above the corresponding vowel). Except this is the single quote between two eles. For example, in hal'lel we have added the comilla to indicate the separation of the two eles in pronunciation; otherwise some readers would tend to pronounce hallel as it is pronounced in Castilian halle or valle, which would be incorrect. Obviously the other reduplicated consonants are transcribed without a quote, but we reduplicate them in Castilian transliteration.

5. The Gimmel always sounds like the G in the cat, never like the G in people. We have always represented it with a simple G (without "u") for simplicity, but should always be given the loud sound.

6. It is imperative that the accentuation of each Hebrew word be carefully observed, for correct accentuation is indispensable for proper understanding of the Text. In this work, every word that does not have a written accent is sharp, it is accentuated in the last syllable. Every plain word, esdrújula or sobresdrújula carries its written accent.

7. We would have preferred to put all the transliterated text in uppercase letters, to imitate the uniformity of the Hebrew, which does not have lowercase letters, but to put it in lowercase has the advantage that we can capitalize the proper names for a more accurate identification of the same.

However, we have not capitalized in any other case, nor punctuation. This is reserved for translation.
