is the next generation astronomy star map app. It combines a realistic and accurate night sky simulation with a gigantic amount of online imaging and sky objects catalogs.
Made by the original creator of Stellarium, the award-winning open source planetarium, this
version was designed from the ground up to show a potentially unlimited amount of data through an intuitive and minimalist user interface.
• All known stars: Gaia DR2 catalog of over 1.69 billion stars
• All known planets and their natural satellites, including very high multi-resolution imaging for the major ones
• Most known deep sky objects: a combined catalog of over 2 million nebulae and galaxies
• All known comets
• Many minor solar system objects (10k asteroids)
• Many visible artificial earth satellites (including the International Space Station)
• A full-sky very high multi-resolution background image
for experimented astronomers it also includes:
• Telescope control module: drive any telescope through an application compatible with the Stellarium Telescope Server protocol.
Please note that the app works perfectly without internet connection, but with a reduced set of data (2 million stars, 2 million Deep Sky Objects, 10k asteroids).
Beside these features, it also includes most features already present in the standard Stellarium Mobile app:
• show the sky at any time and place
• sensor control to identify a star in just a few seconds, just by pointing the phone at the sky!
• asterisms and illustrations of the constellations for dozen of sky cultures
• realistic landscape and atmosphere with sunrise & sunset
• accurate simulation of atmosphere refraction
• night mode (red)

App ChangeLog

  • New features:
  • - Add time speed settings
  • - Add a global brightness slider (advanced settings)
  • - Allow to adjust the number of DSO hints/labels (advanced settings)
  • - Clicking again on the telescope goto button now cancels telescope slewing
  • - Show detailed star types
  • - Add experimental support for On-Step telescope controller

Recently moved into a small PA town with really terrible street and other dusk-to-dawn lighting. This app provides an excellent and quite accurate indication where in the sky to try and locate guide stars. Also accurately maps planets and deep sky objects. Really useful for the small telescope user. Very nice as a hand-held. Not sure how to choose whether app continues to track sky as I zoom in. Default seems to be lock position when zooming, so user can easily examine. Both models would be good

  2. Warwick-avatar

Great. Although I keep the old Stellarium as well because it has an icon to show all satellites in the sky where the new does not.

  3. red-avatar

It works great on my old phone. I just installed it on my new phone few moments ago, and the 8-shape calibration didn't work well, the ground turns out to be. Is there anyway I can redo the 8-shape calibration? Tried resetting (under settings) and reinstalling, it just never asks me to do the calibration again.

  4. eric riley-avatar

    eric riley

At 1st I rated this at 5 stars. It worked great and gave good flightpath of ISS. Now it is not accurate ond doesnt show ISS correctly. Some of the other features work good, but lost its accuracy. For 10$ app I expected more since online is free.

  5. Peter Truscott-avatar

    Peter Truscott

Great mobile version of the PC/Mac application and very useful for beginners and amateur astronomers alike.

  6. Tom Sauder-avatar

    Tom Sauder

I get a splash screen, then the screen goes blank and stays blank until I force the app to close.

  7. Steve Fleming-avatar

    Steve Fleming

works great no matter where I've used it. Helps finding things for astrophotography or just learning what's visible in the night sky.

  8. Alex Kitay-avatar

    Alex Kitay

Good app but is always fairly misaligned with the night sky in my region even after compass calibration.

  9. C Phillip-avatar

    C Phillip

We love using this app every night! My kids will ask for my phone to see whats in the sky or to see if they've correctly identified a planet or constellation.

  10. Tim-avatar

Been enjoying this app for a long time on PC lot of fun exploring the universe. Wish there was option for resolution packs

  11. GEM GamesNstuff-avatar

I've been using the PC and mobile version for years. Great system to use.

It is a handy, easy to use tool for sky watching.

  13. Matt Silvers-avatar

This app is simply amazing! I'm a nerd for anything above and around earth. Thank you for this.

  14. A Google user-avatar

Not only is this the best astronomy program out there, this company's customer service is beyond reproach. It's refreshing to see a business that is as responsive and helpful as this one.

  15. Jesus Avila-avatar

    Jesus Avila

Bad. I can't run the app in my two android devices , like any other device.

  16. Don B-avatar

    Don B

    Awesome app! Worth every penny!

  17. Joe Vielbig-avatar

    Joe Vielbig

One of the most recent updates really brought this up to 5 stars. The search and filtering function is fantastic, and in general, it runs incredibly smoothly on my pixel 2. All you could want in a stargazing app and so much more for those wanting to really dive in with a telescope. Appreciate all the hard work that has been put into it. One of my best purchases on here, by far.

  18. Simon Davis-avatar

    Simon Davis

    Excellent display easily controlled

  19. Cesar Pun-avatar

    Cesar Pun

The app seems to be pretty decent all-around, I rated it a 3 because I have problems calibrating it. If I use the built-in calibration, it never gets past 10%. I calibrated it using the Google Maps method but no joy. I have tried it in a Pixel 2 and a S8+ and still the same problem. It almost looks like it is pointing to Magnetic North not True North. I used the Moon and a point of reference.

  20. Andi Illsley-avatar

    Andi Illsley

Initially, I was unable to install this app on my Tablet without being asked to pay again. Contacted Google online chat support and my issue turned out to be a cache and data issue on the play store and download manager. Once these were cleared, the app was available to install on my tablet also. So revising my rating from 1 star to 5 stars cause the app itself is awesome!! 👍

  21. Bruce Michael-avatar

    Bruce Michael

Seems like it could be really cool, but it is WAY OFF from my location. long/lat are fine, but sky is not close to real. Centering my phone on the actual moon, the moon on the screen shows all the way to the right side of the screen. Too far to be practical

  22. Kür bis-avatar

    Kür bis

Installed the app because of the comet "neowise" c/2020 f3. Was able to locate it pretty quick. I'm not sure if i would have been able to spot it without the app, since the conditions where not perfect last night. You could barely see it using your eyes only. Once located i used binoculars to get a better view of it. Can't wait to learn more about all the constelations you can see at night. App also works perfectly, if you want to find out what star your looking at. Defenitely worth it's money!

  23. Scott Bley-avatar

    Scott Bley

Wow! I'm in love with this app. So easy. So many features. My first night using this, I could finally locate and identify more constellations than just the Big Dipper. I probably learned 20 new constellations that night. And I've learned the names of some of the more prominent stars. The next morning, it helped me locate 5 planets at the same time. This app is awesome!

  24. Old Dog Zero One-avatar

    Old Dog Zero One

The free version of Stellarium was great, but "plus" totally blows it away! So many additional features, up to date list of comets, you can select, go into the future and see where & when it's visible. You can display apparent fields, and other info. The starfield data allows you to starhop to anything, an adjustable mag limit 0-25! It's well worth the $! One feature I would like to see, is a user definable horizon. Terrific app!

  25. Hot Flash Foto-avatar

    Hot Flash Foto

Finding objects is fairly simple. When time is popped out, it can't be put back. Big controls for most items, but small for time and play. Long press on some works, but not consistent. Overall, I'm glad I got this, but Android has changed and I can no longer share this purchased app across my other devices.

  26. Adam Hart-avatar

    Adam Hart

BUY NOW! This app is AMAZING! $9.99...seriously? I would have spent $100 on this app. I've been using it for about 5 minutes, I haven't even started tweaking the settings, of which there are a ton. They've thought this one out very thoroughly. After you purchase & download, check out the Layers menu & pay attention to the pop-up tips to delve deeper into each layer. I only wish I had a telescope to link up with because of this app, I am going to research & hopefully find an affordable 1!

  27. Colissa Pollard-avatar

    Colissa Pollard

Love it! It's especially awesome that you can zoom in on every little dot in the sky and search by name (except for the Tesla Roadster 😉).

  28. Karin Burghardt-avatar

    Karin Burghardt

It's such an amazing and helpful tool. Loads of information about the different objects in the sky. The timing and finding of the objects is a peace of cake.

  29. Vincent MALZIEU-avatar

    Vincent MALZIEU

Love the app, on mobile it's great and allows to spot objects in the sky easily. I had some issues offline where a lot of the deep space objects were not present (neowise or ISS for example), would be great if the downloaded additional data about the sky could last a little longer when the phone is offline (a few days).

  30. Tanya S-avatar

    Tanya S

Tonight I wanted to see Neowise in the sky. I was playing around with the app's clock to see if I could see Neowise when it got dark with nothing on my horizon blocking it. And lo and behold the app showed the space station would be flying over it at just the time there would be best viewing. Serendipity. I watched that glorious blue smudge Neowise, and for the first time in my life I saw the space station knowing it was the space station flying over it. This app was 100% accurate.

  31. Alex Istrate-avatar

    Alex Istrate

So far, awesome. The only thing I miss from the desktop version is the ability to change easily oculars and telescope previews.

  32. Sir Chan-avatar

This is a fantastic app. I prefer the pc version due to options available, but for a quick look while out imaging the stellarium app works wonderfully.

  33. Fergal Tierney-avatar

Great app with a tonne or detailed information for both the beginner and more advanced. Excellent interface makes identifying object so easy. Well worth the small fee.

  34. Hari Krishnan Sundaresan-avatar

    Hari Krishnan Sundaresan

The app is overall great, but the UI is not very smooth, especially the scrolling in menus and information boxes. I'm using this on a OnePlus 7T for reference.

  35. Sleepy-avatar

I love this app for when i decide to whip out the o'l telescope, worth the money for the services it gives. 5 stars for the best sky map i've ever had.

  37. Tinko Bartels-avatar

    Tinko Bartels

Awesome app, just like the desktop version. By taking the location into account and having a easy-to-access search feature, it helps me to find objects in the night sky almost instantaneously, which is what I bought it for.

  38. Rosa Fadden-avatar

    Rosa Fadden

Exactly what I was looking for in star map. It has nebulas, galaxy's and, to my surprise, satellites on top of stars, planets and constellations that you get with the others star apps. It's worth the $9.99 USD. Thank you..

Asking for a rating before one can make a reliable assessment. ...and the second ask came with a bribe for a 5star: very sad that this is our path to self praise. So far I'm impressed with the app, I'm not sorry I spent my money - but begging for a rating, is so beneath the quality of the app.

I didn't know I could see Saturn and Jupiter from my porch, but I pointed my Tscope at the two "stars", and was amazed by Jupiter and its moons, and Saturn's rings. I do not regret buying this.

It looks nice graphically but i wouldn't delete my previous Stellarium app just yet as I find the access to the previous controls very convenient and the controls for this version pretty vague. I hope it gets better in regards to learning these controls. Update. I was used to the controls of the older app as I have used it for so long but now I've come to enjoy this great version. WONDERFUL!

I've been using Stellarium for 5 months now. I don't regret my purchase. The sky map is really impressive, responsive, move perfectly with your phone, and is so detailed! Love the drawing showing what it represents. I'm so glad to be able to turn my phone and knows which stars is which. protip: It's perfect for dating too. Go to a place beforehand, and pretend you know which stars is which.

  90. Kevin Austin-avatar

This app really helps me present to the night sky. I can choose a time and watch the sky rotate at any rate I like. I can choose a date and see what the sky will look like then. Point to an object and get information about it. The only thing I would add would be the color of each prominent star as a verification. Right now, as far as I can tell, color is only given for some stars. This app is a jewel.

  93. Neil Wimmer-avatar

    Neil Wimmer

There are some nice things about the paid for version but unfortunately they changed some things and lost some nice features in the free version. For example, you lose the outlines of constellations when zoom out or move around in the screen. Also in the free version you can tap on the date/time and then nicely scroll the screen to moved forward or backwards in time - gone in the paid for version. This is the first app I've paid for where the paid version is less useful than the free one

  94. Jeff Shepherd-avatar

    Jeff Shepherd

I'm an old school "star-hopper" when wanting to find an object in the sky, using multiple binoculars & my telescope at the same time. This app is amazing with it's ability to be able to zoom in & out, & also provide many low-magnitude stars as your field of view shrinks. I also love being able to choose a star in a constellation & potentially get to learn it's name. It was very handy to have this app during the recent passing of comet Neowise in the sky (July 2020); Stellarium had its location!

Good feature on app but can you include comet shower schedule

  96. ME Secor-avatar

    ME Secor

Garbage. The gyroscope settings on this app made me pull the trigger on buying a new phone, yes, my note 5 was way overdue, but the battery still got me through a day (there were other hiccups). Brand new galaxy, gyroscope says 10% accuracy one second, 100% the next and jupiter and saturn are a full phone rotation away. I pull up stellarium on my laptop vs phone, not even close. It's the app, not my new phone. Google sky is spot on.

Just awesome. Use it constantly and love it more all the time. One suggestion - I'd love to have the ability to save a "wishlist" of objects so that I can have reminders of the things for which I want to search the sky.

Best $10 I've ever spent! I love the calendar, the options, the whole thing! The history of different sky cultures is also fascinating! Thank you so much! The only thing missing, for me, is the ISS. Since you have all those satellites labeled, it seems like the ISS should be too.

Great app. I've been looking for a way to know what stars and constellations I see at night, and this app is just perfect! Had a bit of a problem to get it installed, but that has been solved and I've already learned a lot more about what's above my head than I have in years! I highly recommend this app!

This is a great app! It has more information in it than Star Walk 2, which has been my main astronomy app until now. As far as suggested features, I would love some stargazing music, an astronomy news feed, And most of all, Google cardboard support! Thank you so much!

Mostly good. I'd like the same ocular FOV functionality as the pc version. Trying to use the slider in the app is difficult. It would be much simpler if one could just type in their FOV numbers.

I had used the PC version of Stellarium years ago, and always found it to be overwhelming. I just bought this Android version to find the passing comet, and am amazed at how easy it is to use. The only thing that took me a while to figure out is how to get it to follow my phone again after zooming in - you just aim the phone straight up (this fact was probably shown in some tutorial box that I ignored...)

I am trying to download/install the Stellarium Mobile Plus but it is not installing/downloading. It has been indicating "Waiting for download " message for the past hour, I checked my internet connection and it is fine. Please assist, I believe it is Google not your app.

Great App! Probably the single most important tool in advancing my enthusiasm as an amateur astronomer. I would have given up with just a telescope and a star chart. This is all the difference in the universe. Excuse the pun. I couldn't help myself.

I had other apps alike, but this one is my go-to for everything. Its fun even to just zoom in on objects and more objects and stars will appear in any pinpoint in the sky. Very thoroughly thought out with attention to UX. great.

Really pleased with the seamless transition from PC to Android. I'm yet to use all the features but overall I'm happy with Stellarium and have no issues. It's a great substitute on cloudy nights too!

Feature rich. This app is incredible. Whether you're just a star gazer or an astro photographer, this app will help you plan how you pursue your hobby or obsession. The night vision mode is a really nice plus for using it out in the field. I do wish the developer would change one thing. In order to exit the app, you have to turn off full screen mode to display the screen control options, which causes subsequent problems upon restarting the app. They should just have an exit option in the menu.

Can't stress enough how awesome the UI of this app is! This is a must have for every stargazer. Was a bit skeptical before paying 600+ for this. But within 5 mins of use I uninstalled all other apps. This is all I need.

I really don't care for the fact that you cannot control the opacity of the Sky Cultures. It's very easy to see the Arabic, but the Western are far too transparent to see without zooming so far into each constellation. 👎

Very easy to use. A fantastic app to help you learn the night sky, from star names, to constellations and more. Packed with simple yet very useful perks, such as the ecliptic tracker, and an easy and comprehensive tool to locate planets, stars and when they will be visible in your sky. Over all an amazing and easy to use app, absolutely worth the price tag!

It is really helpful. There's one difficult to use: Pluto, Neptune and Uranus are too small, if they could be bigger to see obviously similar to other Solar planets, it would be much more helpful!

Had to uninstall this app because there is no exit button. But then they got back to me and helped me out. Swipe up from the bottom and the regular android controls appear. There is a lot to this app so now it is a 5 star.

I love this app! I tried many similar apps. One of the things I like most about this app is I can easily adjust what I see on the screen. For example, I can show or hide labels, or I can choose whether constellations are only outlined or whether there's images overlaid on them. I also like being able to have the display follow the motion of my phone or have a static display.

Updating my review to 4 stars (from 1) after the 1.5.3 update. It now points to North correctly. Thank you for pushing the update! It would be 5 stars if the web app, mobile app, and desktop app integrate. Examples: you need to configure your telescope in each app separately. Observation notes don't sync.

  118. Jake Henderson-avatar

Overall this app is fantastic. One feature I wish it had was the ability to look at a star chart for the entire night sky, as well as the live view that you can scroll through. Once you have the settings in the place you want or need them to be for your location, finding constellations/stars is incredibly easy with this application.

This app is excellent if you're looking for an easy-to-use guide to finding planets and deep sky objects. The telrad reticle and red backlight means that I no longer have to carry a red flashlight, planisphere, and star charts. I would recommend downloading a red and black qwerty keyboard to preserve your dark adapted eyes when searching for objects out in the field. All in all this is an excellent app for those who like things simple.

Disappointed, does not have the AR mode that others have. I.e overlay camera input on to the map. Tried doing a refund after 5 minutes because of that and was not allowed. Good potential but falls flat unfortunately...

Great app. Easy to use. You can search for astronomical objects, you can view sky real time or change date to plan future simulation. Sometimes I cant tell what object or planet, but this quickly solves that problem. E.G. Im familiar with Andromeda Galaxy but its so faint I'm not sure if Im looking in the exact spot, but this helps. Ive been able to peak other peoples interest which is cool

The most realistic graphics among all planetary apps of play store. I have seen many past eclipses with my kid as one can view night sky, stars & planets and even eclipses for any time, date & location. I really love this app....Thanks to the developers for such a fantastic app.

This is awesome, helped me get pictures of Jupiter and Saturn so far. The only issue is that everything is offset a little from where it looks like it should be. This kept happening, even after it asked me to recalibrate my phone compass. It would be nice if we could manually set an offset to correct it.

I purchased the app but I wasn't able to install it. I tried twice and no luck. I would really be interested in this. I have two telescopes and this would be a perfect addition. Will be happy to give more stars if I'm able to install and use it. I have a Galaxy Note 10+

I had high expectations in regard to Stellarium. It does everything that it is supposed to do.And it is user friendly. The best thing is the support. I have o my needed them twice in right months, but they were right there. There is nothing to be worried it afraid about. Actually it is one of my favorite apps. Ever since childhood I have been a stargazer.I really love the stars. But the thing is that the best time is very late at night. With Stellarium you are in control. You can simulate it all.

Great app, devoted development team with a great story. Love the cultural side, be sure to look at the other constellations from various civilizations not just the western ones. Can be used to create a plan by moving the date and time forward to look at potential targets.

Pretty good app. Would recommend adding an inclination in degrees in vr mode and adding a compass calibration button so you can calibrate the compass at will. Another nice feature would be adding the ability to overlay stellarium on a 360 picture of the area you are looking at, so you can easily see obstructions etc.

This is much better than the previous version of Stelarium, except for when you are moving your time and most of the screen is taken up with the clock screen. At least in the old version you could see the sky when advancing through time.
