is the next generation astronomy star map app. It combines a realistic and accurate night sky simulation with a gigantic amount of online imaging and sky objects catalogs.
Made by the original creator of Stellarium, the award-winning open source planetarium, this
version was designed from the ground up to show a potentially unlimited amount of data through an intuitive and minimalist user interface.
• All known stars: Gaia DR2 catalog of over 1.69 billion stars
• All known planets and their natural satellites, including very high multi-resolution imaging for the major ones
• Most known deep sky objects: a combined catalog of over 2 million nebulae and galaxies
• All known comets
• Many minor solar system objects (10k asteroids)
• Many visible artificial earth satellites (including the International Space Station)
• A full-sky very high multi-resolution background image
for experimented astronomers it also includes:
• Telescope control module: drive any telescope through an application compatible with the Stellarium Telescope Server protocol.
Please note that the app works perfectly without internet connection, but with a reduced set of data (2 million stars, 2 million Deep Sky Objects, 10k asteroids).
Beside these features, it also includes most features already present in the standard Stellarium Mobile app:
• show the sky at any time and place
• sensor control to identify a star in just a few seconds, just by pointing the phone at the sky!
• asterisms and illustrations of the constellations for dozen of sky cultures
• realistic landscape and atmosphere with sunrise & sunset
• accurate simulation of atmosphere refraction
• night mode (red)

App ChangeLog

  • New features:
  • - Add time speed settings
  • - Add a global brightness slider (advanced settings)
  • - Allow to adjust the number of DSO hints/labels (advanced settings)
  • - Clicking again on the telescope goto button now cancels telescope slewing
  • - Show detailed star types
  • - Add experimental support for On-Step telescope controller

Google Play Reviews

  1. Jake Henderson-avatar

Overall this app is fantastic. One feature I wish it had was the ability to look at a star chart for the entire night sky, as well as the live view that you can scroll through. Once you have the settings in the place you want or need them to be for your location, finding constellations/stars is incredibly easy with this application.

  2. chris james-avatar

I really do love this app. But I wish the deep space objects were more apparent when zoomed out. It would be nice to see what you can look at in a section of sky. A bulk tour if you would. If you know what you are looking for, it will definitely point you In the right direction. It's full of information. It's a great app. The best star app I have tried by far. Edit* Well the app already did what I wanted. I just wasn't using it properly. Changed rating to 5 stars. Buy it!

  3. Robert Frank-avatar

This app is excellent if you're looking for an easy-to-use guide to finding planets and deep sky objects. The telrad reticle and red backlight means that I no longer have to carry a red flashlight, planisphere, and star charts. I would recommend downloading a red and black qwerty keyboard to preserve your dark adapted eyes when searching for objects out in the field. All in all this is an excellent app for those who like things simple.

  4. Willie MacDonald-avatar

    Willie MacDonald

This is much better than the previous version of Stelarium, except for when you are moving your time and most of the screen is taken up with the clock screen. At least in the old version you could see the sky when advancing through time.

  5. Sean Davis-avatar

Pretty good app. Would recommend adding an inclination in degrees in vr mode and adding a compass calibration button so you can calibrate the compass at will. Another nice feature would be adding the ability to overlay stellarium on a 360 picture of the area you are looking at, so you can easily see obstructions etc.

  6. Johnny Eyeball-avatar

Detailed star chart in my pocket. Interactive, with great features. Super easy. I let the kids mess with it while I set up the scope, have them find something interesting and then we find it and look at it through the telescope. They love it and keys them out of the way for a few minutes. I really like this app. It had everything I need.

  7. Daniel Barry-avatar

Save yourself some money and just get the free version. Free version is much more configurable and easier to use. Grid lines in this app are overwhelming. Deep sky objects are not highlighted like they are in the free version. Overall, if you want to look at constellations, and that's it, this app will do a mediocre job at best.

  8. Carla Perez-avatar

The app interface is simple and well designed, shows the stars, planets and the galaxies when you point your phone, however beyond of that there is not much too do. It doesn't offer space news or info, very basic. Location is not accurate and hard to calibrate using the numeric tool. For almost $10 dollars, I find it extremely expensive and no really useful.

  9. Richard O'Neill-Roe-avatar

    Richard O'Neill-Roe

Though the free version is excellent, the PLUS version opens up all the settings. These settings take it from being very good to excellent. I use the 'magnitude limit' to easily adjust the number of visible stars to match the current conditions. This alone makes it so much easier to pin point what you are looking at.

  10. Moon Think-avatar

Frustrating and confusing app. No documentation or guides anywhere. Starts full screen with no clear way to exit app. Finally figured out how to get out of full screen so that I could close this or get to other apps, but now when I start it the screen is distorted, so I have to switch to full screen and back every time to fix that. It CONSTANTLY asks to recalibrate for AR functions, and the AR viewing of the sky is the #1 reason I purchased this. For nearly $10, I expected MUCH better. Data hog!

  11. Chris Turchin-avatar

Markarian's Chain is marked wrong, placed right in the middle of Virgos chest. I did not explore much else, but I know that M86 is part of it and that is definitely not in the round marking in the app. For the price I'd expect a bit more accurate coordinates.

  12. David C. Drake-avatar

Fantastic, versatile app for stargazing and learning more, in an intimate and visually appealing way, about the visible universe as well as many of the different cultural interpretations our species has concocted for various features of the gorgeous night sky above us.

  13. Kirstie Joan-avatar

This is such a wonderful app. I've never felt so close to the cosmos/universe until now. I can see their actual movements (planets, satellites, moons, etc), also see and name stars, galaxies and more. This is so great! Thank you for this amazing experience in this app. 😊

  14. J Mrazek-avatar

Simple and still strong. I recommend. Deep space objects photos are in PC version. However, satelites, nicely displayed do not too much correspond to the actual sky, hard to say where is the problem. Sometimes it starts to download 200MB sky update with mobile data, i cannot block that.

  15. James Brown-avatar

Excellent app. Very detailed sky map and very useful features. I use it all the time now. Just needs a few small tweaks to the ocular settings to be perfect. Changes I believe are on the way.

  16. Zeeshan Shamshuddin-avatar

    Zeeshan Shamshuddin

It's a fun and practical app. Really helpful for even occasional star gazers. It would be fun to have a description or story of each constellation available when one wants to read about it though.

  17. Brock Trumble-avatar

Wish it had some sort of lock on to the night sky to make it easier to navigate the night sky in what were looking at. Just point the phone at a star and tells us what it is or what not

  18. Mike Barber-avatar

Outstanding app for astronomy, fully customizable to my exact location and very accurate. Love the way it looks and how easy it is to use. Really cant think of any negatives.

  19. Richard Gardner-avatar

    Richard Gardner

Improvements on the original Stellarium mobile app. Much more detail on objects. Full screen night mode without the blinding whit light of the soft keys on Samsung One UI. Other features not yet explored. Looks and feels good though.

  20. Kelly FitzHugh-avatar

Wonderful app that has a plethora of useful astronomical data for stargazing and in my case astrophotography. Worth the price to me for a handy astronomical observing tool. Thank!

  21. Dean Carlisle-avatar

I would love to see current and future astronomical events displayed on the app. Just like Skyweek for Sky Safari and astronomical events on Mobile Observatory. This would be very useful for catching future astronomical events and not missing out.

  22. Wil Dobson-avatar

This is exceptional. I appreciate having so many options available, and it looks wonderfully on my tablet.

  23. Andrea Lamiac-avatar

One of my favourite apps, finally on a mobile device. Great user experience, perfectly crafted visual content with a few handy features.

  24. hudson464-avatar

Exactly what I wanted. Easy to use, intuitive, and loaded with information. Excellent app!

  25. Verity Stannard-avatar

    Verity Stannard

Great value for money. Loads more powerful than the free version. Particularly like having dimmer stars visible. Very useful.

  26. Sjoerd Van Keulen-avatar

    Sjoerd Van Keulen

Extremely useful. If there was a device with the same possibilities as stellarium in pre-smartphone times, amateur astronomers would probably pay over $100 for it.

  27. Borislav Bozhidarov-avatar

    Borislav Bozhidarov

Absolutely great app. I love it. I would only recommend more chart detail for DSOs and some observation planner, assistant and log.

  28. Nordin T.-avatar

Awesome app, really easy for beginners and very very helpful for cheap price. Great job by the developers and design team!!

  29. Thomas Meyer-avatar

Superb navigation and data. My only gripe is I wish I could change the date and time settings like the desktop app.

  30. Jim Wheatley-avatar

Stellarium is useful to my studies in astronomy. This app has a great cartalogue of heavenly bodies to track. I DO wish the constellation artwork would display more brightly.

  31. Jun Rui Ting-avatar

Even though it's paid but Stellarium is amazing nonetheless and is a convenient and useful mobile companion during stargazing and telescope observation sessions!

  32. zachary bragg-avatar

App will not close once I open it. Difficulty navigating back to home screen within app once it is opened.

  33. Ron Ockwell-avatar

I have used various versions of this app and find it is very good when I can't get outside it gives me great pleasure I am seventy years old I just wish I had started veiwing the shy at a young man

  34. Allan Jones-avatar

A wonderful app which has helped me identify stars, galaxies, and constellations with helpful resources to compliment this.

  35. Bernhard Boehm-avatar

great app and very useful, in particular when being out to explore the sky ...

  36. Wieslawa Hancock-avatar

    Wieslawa Hancock

Stellarium Plus is fantastic view 👏 the best👍 You can find everything and very fast what you wanted on the our beautiful sky 🤩

    Michael Pienaar

This is a top planitarium app. The depth and detail is staggering.

  38. Junayet Miah-avatar

Love how smooth it is! Most pictures I find are super pretty.

  39. Netera Alchemy-avatar

Really nice, massive improvement on standard version. Thanks

  40. Anthony Aguino-avatar

I use this wonderful appt to help me find stars and deep sky objects to look at

  41. neil holt-avatar

Great app i also have it on my PC great info on planets stars etc a must have app for star gazing

  42. Rebecca Nash-avatar

Super useful in helping me plan my astrophotography projects and just fun to find and read about DSOs!

  43. Denny Jude-avatar

The best app of it's type. It's that simple. Thank you!

  44. Jacob Bingham-avatar

I love finding Deep Sky Objects in style.

  45. Janinka Tyc-avatar

I give 5 stars coz I love this app but it's not working (paid version). Just empty black screen. Can you help me?

  46. Prakash K.B.-avatar

My eyes welled up with tears of joy when the star the phone was pointed at revealed its identity. It was Arcturus. Close to it was Spica and diametrically opposite was Sirius. The light pollution consumed Polaris and the Big dipper was barely visible. This app is a true blessing for an occasional/amateur astronomer like me. Well done!!!

  47. Levi-avatar

My favorite app. A great companion for stargazers and astrologers!

  48. Nalin Pithwa-avatar

Stellar ! It is an excellent beginning in the journey of astronomy, physics, mathematics and computational stuff

  49. Adam Williams-avatar

The only night sky app you need, very impressed

  50. Joe Bao-avatar

So far seems very functional, with the exception of one very annoying bug: whenever I try to search for an object in the free-look mode, the screen will flicker/stutter constantly with some random still frame and is extremely frustrating to deal with. Don't know if it's something wrong with mine personally because I don't seem to see anyone else having the same issue but it's very annoying. Hope it gets fixed soon.

  51. Jayendra Parmar-avatar

    Jayendra Parmar

Awesome app I am using this frequently for stargazing, however I think the rendering the object names in regional language is a missing feature. The desktop app have an option to display the regional names for stars and planets which is missing here. The names of the object are fine but the script is still English.

  52. Argus Nike-avatar

Could not be better. Connected to the scope first time. Up and running in seconds. Easy and intuitive to use without too much that isn't all that necessary.

  53. Johnny Olivares-avatar

    Johnny Olivares

Update: turns out the built in Celestron wifi is not compatible. You need to use a serial to wifi adapter and I now understand why. But this should be stated somewhere. The app itself works great but this should be stated somewhere. As a sky map it's great. But I got the plus version for the telescope control which I can't get working.

  54. jason baca-avatar

Stellarium Mobile Plus is amazing!! i have tried other free/purchased astronomy apps, and this one has superior functionality, larger catalog of objects with a user friendly search feature for clusters, messier objects, stars and planets. i love the zoom in/out and was able to locate objects like ic1101, and view objects names from various historical cultures. the only thing I asked for was the ability to toggle kilometers to miles, and my email received a reply within a few hours. i have

  55. Philip Wright-avatar

A perfect companion to my Sky-Watcher AZ goto mount. It is much easier using this app than the Synscan hand held controller. No prob getting the app working with the mounts built in WiFi (via Synscan pro also running on my tablet). Great communications with the developer as well when I needed to understand a connectivity issue I had, now all sorted.

  56. FabFem Project-avatar

I've been an occasional amateur astronomer since the 1980s. This is my first use of an e-Star Atlas and I must say that this app is amazing, very well thought out, extremely easy to navigate with very responsive zooming and an intelligent menu system. It's also a wonderful mobile teaching tool for introducing newcomers to celestial and planet motion, (using the time slider), constellations, DSOs etc. On my Samsung S9 phone the active tracking after calibration works perfectly. Very well done!

  57. Ian Parr-avatar

Exceptional update. Only issue is enabling compass mode The icon is there from time to time but does not switch between modes although calibration appears if I wave my tablet around hard enough. Depth of background is excellent and vastly improved catalog. Add an interface to DSS and I can probably remove Sky Safari. Bravo. Well done.

  58. Bill Kranz-avatar

I have the Plus version on a Galaxy S8 but cannot see an "exit" button or menu pick to get out of the program. Is it designed this way? I have to power off to get back to my home screen, etc. Can we upload extra data to the mobile version like the ISS track or the new interstellar comet's position? Hope someone can help me.

  59. FOX _X-avatar

Looks like a nice app but the gyro sensor or compass of my Samsung S7 is not working. I can wave my S7 in a figure 8 for hours for nothing. Calibration process does not proceed. At the moment the app is only working 40 percent for me. Sad Update: Even after the update the developer mentioned, gyro Sensor on Samsung Galaxy S7 is still not working.

  60. Arjun Dawn-avatar

Okay but need more frequent updates about the new objects in the sky

  61. Ryan B-avatar

Definitely a neat app. I wish it had A.R veiw so you can your landscape and see the stars through your camera phone. I wish the devs would make clear which "edition" does what, like why is this one around 10$ vs the other $3.50 and the free one. Mainly just want to know the difference between them.

  62. Dan M.-avatar

VG! I'm an amateur hobbyist in astronomy & astrophotography. I have used the functionally limited "FREE" Sky Map & Star Tracker apps to learn and pin point what I'm looking for. This Stellarium app with its near infinite zoom & library blows them out of the SKY! This is the GOLD standard of astro maps! Buy it!

  63. Serena Enzersdorf-avatar

    Serena Enzersdorf

Love it so much! Will have to get used to after a free version but it's a good upgrade. It would be really interesting if there were photos from space telescopes.

  64. William Ortiz-avatar

It looks nice graphically but i wouldn't delete my previous Stellarium app just yet as I find the access to the previous controls very convenient and the controls for this version pretty vague. I hope it gets better in regards to learning these controls.

  65. Nick Stringer-avatar

Really impressed with this version! It's much closer to the desktop experience than the previous app, and aesthetically a step up too. Happy to pay to support its development.

  66. Star Knowledge-avatar

Beautifully updated, but I am having trouble deactivating the gyroscope feature. I have tried moving the screen manually. This temporarily stops the gyroscope, but it eventually reactivates while I am attempting to use the menu. Please assist. Thank you.

  67. valery hatalski-avatar

    valery hatalski

for any people having trouble calibrating.. You need to move your phone in a 8 figured motion while it's pointing up.. then it will calibrate. I was having trouble with it as Well.. but then I tried it and it worked.

  68. Rudmer Hoekstra-avatar

    Rudmer Hoekstra

Just bought the app, great improvement! Unfortunately, tapping UTC offset in the Location menu kicks you right out of the menu instead of choosing the offset. Hope you can fix this, thanks very much!

  69. Graham Gutierrez-avatar

    Graham Gutierrez

Great astronomy app.It will flicker when you select an object and you have to zoom and move the screen manually to get it to stop. Other than that this app is great. Used it last night with my scope

  70. Gu zer-avatar

Wow thats what I was ever looking for! Detailed info about every important star ! Awesome thanks for your amazing work, that makes worth to use a smartphone and with awesome zoom! Worth more than 8€!

  71. Gabe Maiberger-avatar

This app is great! You should add the known angular diameters of stars for which such data is known. You should also decrease the minimum field of view.

  72. Alan Finkle-avatar

Excellent information. Compass doesn't work, faces South no matter which direction I face. UPDATE, now seems to be working fine.

  73. Ian Cutler-avatar

Excellent works seemlessly with Synscan & AZGTi controller. No need to align scope etc. on a regular basis as this App does the search and find better and controls Telescope perfectly.

  74. nigel herbert-avatar

Not half as good as it was. I thought updates were supposed to improve an app, not so

  75. Jim Sullivan-avatar

Planetarium in yer pocket! But compass is off about 30 degrees and recalibration hasnt helped on Android Moto E5. Shows sunrise way far north of true location.

  76. Claudio Nunez-avatar

Great app and superbe UI. latest update broke the GPS capabilities on my Google pixel 3

  77. Kaveis Aistadiala-avatar

    Kaveis Aistadiala

Been using stellarium on computers for over a decade. This mobile version continues to be amazing.

  78. Toby Surujnauth-avatar

    Toby Surujnauth

Very good but would have been better if could set date and time

  79. Paul Casey-avatar

Brilliant app. Intuitive clear and clean.

  80. eric eviscerations-avatar

    eric eviscerations

So far it's ok on my pixel 4 xl, but some search functions I find lacking: proxima centauri is mentioned but not searchable. Would like the ability to import a street view, if available through Google maps, of my current location as well. May revise my review in the future.

  81. Felix Underhill-avatar

    Felix Underhill

This app is a wonderful way to explore the universe!

  82. Sumit Parlikar-avatar

Would rate it a 7 star if there was that option..

  83. benedict culminator-avatar

    benedict culminator

Like the free one but with more made up stuff about space

  84. Marvin Abbott-avatar

Almost as good as the PC version

  85. Hilma Shipahu-avatar

AMAZING I love this app so much!

  86. Anne-Maree McComb-avatar

    Anne-Maree McComb

Its terrible. I wasted my money the free version is far better. Its not mobile phone friendly. You can't see past the huge time clock that takes up half the screen. You also can't see past the super illuminated stars. The nebulas are difficult to see and i found no way of scrolling through the time like you did in the free version. I've uninstalled.

  87. Nature's Rhythm-avatar

    Nature's Rhythm

Only app that actually pin points my exact location

  88. Dave Durland-avatar

**above avg android app** But would like to see added: a)ability to add an inventory of eyepiece/tele., etc. and see FOV match what is currently chosen. Now, you can only have 1; to see different f.o.v., you must edit the 1 eyepiece entry. b)ability to choose which star catalog is my default, but see synonym names from other catalogs. c)ability to see pics of entities when clicking on them for addtl info. i.e. similar to SkySafari but extended. d)ability to display customized extra info/notes.

    Excellent peice of Astro software

  90. Jeremy Moss-avatar

I like the features of this app. However, I bought it under the misapprehension that the "tilt" function would work with my phone. Unfortunately, my phone (Galaxy J6) doesn't have the necessary sensors. Would I be able to get a refund please?

  91. ombre jaune-avatar

    No other langages, why?

  92. William Zwirko-avatar

    Great app 5 stars.

  93. Sarah Beauchamp-avatar

    Sarah Beauchamp

The paid version of the app does not allow you to view the sky on any given date and time, only the present moment. It does allow you to connect to a telescope, which is cool, but I was expecting to be able to plan future skygazing nights.

  94. Rob Roberts-avatar

Amazing App! I initially had an issue with the app not calibrating properly and I contacted the developer. Fabien quickly returned my email and had me reboot my phone and recalibrate and the problem was solved! I use the app to locate objects for astrophotography and it is a necessity! Love the detailed photos of the deep space objects, the actual live tracking of satellites, the seemingly infinite database of information on almost every object in the night sky imaginable, etc, etc... I have used a multitude of different astronomy apps and nothing comes close to Stellarium. Highly recommend. Get it now!!!

  95. Zach Patton-avatar

Love how much information the app contains and the various cultures that can be used when viewing the night skies. Not happy with how off the system is however. Everytime I want to use the app it asks me to calibrate and I go through the motions but it doesn't work. The progression count stays at 0% no matter how much figure 8 I move it in. It probably has something to do with the calibration not correct but the app is off by about half a cardinal direction. This could be amazing if not for this

  96. Greg Gawel-avatar

Great app but very uninspired implementation. Number of the key features/infos missings. Double stars do not have key separation info, DSO missing key surface brightness, there is hardly any costumization allowed. I like to have ability to limit stars mag 14 and/or be able to have all star catalogue downloaded in case I go to remonte site without access to network. It would be much better if we had catalogues like in original software so we can get what we want not what dev think is good for us.

Fantastic app. It is like having Windows Stellarium on my phone. I love the Augmented Reality function using the camera and, have to also say that the support is fantastic. It controls my telescope, does GoTos just fine unlike some so called premium products for astronomy that I shall not name here. I am really impressed that the high quality images of astronomical bodies have made it across from the PC version too. An excellent app.

My husband has this app on his phone, and it is amazing! Unfortunately, my phone doesn't have a compass, so it doesn't work for me.
