Application "Sound Meter HQ" calculates sound level (noise level) of surroundings with the help of built-in microphone. Result of the measurements are displayed in decibels on the screen of you phone. IMPORTANT: This tool is not a professional device to measure decibels. It uses built-in microphone, which was created to capture human's voice. Such a microphone isn't able to capture sounds above ~ 90-100 dB. Maximum value differs depending on kind of microphone you have. Additionally some devices are equipped with AGC (Automatic Gain Control). This system can additionally disturb correct sound pressure level measurement. Calculated value of noise level is displayed with the help of indicator on the gauge. Range of measurements from environment is between 0-140 dB. Besides current measurement the application displays also minimum and maximum level of the sound. You can clear minimum and maximum measurements any time by using "Reset" button. Additionally the application displays noise power in descriptive way. Great App I love it. Bands playing on stage have a lot of trouble with excessive volume. I looked a lot for something like this that could be mirrored to another device with something like a traffic light with red yellow and green indicators of volume so we could look at actual noise levels. I think it would be great because seems like were always to loud or not loud enough. Be nice to know exactly how loud were. Actually playing.

I tested this with another app that I trust & this gives the same results. I like it gives min & max levels with real time data. Unlike others apps this one does respond when moving the mic closer & further away. I used pink noise, home audio, a quite room, normal convo, yelling w/male/female voice, all fall into normal range. It'll give good ball park level. Would like to see a weighting though & the other apps removed.

I would like labels for the (min)/(current-or-average)/(max) numbers, even in small typeface. I like the sound level examples moving with the meter. Would be good to have a toggle to switch to a moving graph. Good colors choice. Pleasant to watch.

This app has been helpful to me in documenting the loud music a neighbor plays three houses from me, in case it comes down to calling the police. However, it's the loud bass of the music that vibrates my walls and inside my brain that I don't believe I get a true accurate picture of on this app. But it has helped greatly when I called that neighbor and told him I was documenting his noise level.

I have hearing loss. Got new hearing aid and this meter reads sound in normal range, so now I know that sound is not blasting people out when watching or listening to music. This app helps me adjust volume on my hearing aid.

Excellent & accurate data, I would recommend to reshape the design, gauge is great, very realistic, but that legend on top make it too ordinary, functional speaking is a simple app that gets the job done.

Calibration ineffective. Meter is accurate only at calibrated SPL. Useless. Not unique problem though. I haven't found an SPL meter app that has worked well since Android 7. Can't anyone find a way to defeat AGC?

Only used it 2 days but it appears to work well. Responds quickly to changes. The look ofban analog meter is attractive. Then it crashed 2 days later. i checked for an update and thete was none. Uninstalled

absolute JUNK, as a dj i needed a quick way to check levels as i xan not see the meter from the booth, its not even close! everything is 80db even when im pinching 125db with it by the speaker, or silent, dont bother with this app
