"Decibel X" is one of very few sound meter apps on the market that has highly reliable, pre-calibrated measurements and supports frequency weightings: ITU-R 468, A and C. It turns your phone device into a professional noise meter, precisely measures the sound pressure level (SPL) all around you. This extremely useful and beautiful tool will not only be an essential gadget for many uses but also bring you a lot of fun. Have you wondered how quiet is your room or how loud is a rock concert or sport event? "Decibel X" will help you answer all of those.
- Trusted accuracy: the app is carefully tested and calibrated for most devices. The precision is matching with real SPL devices
- Frequency weighting filters: ITU-R 468, A, B, C, Z
- Spectrum analyzer: FFT and BAR graphs to display real time FFT. Those are very useful for frequency analysis and musical tests. Real time predominant frequency is also displayed.
- Powerful, smart history data management:
+ Recording data can be saved into a list of history records for future access and analysis
+ Each record can be exported as hi-res PNG graph or CSV text via sharing services
+ Fullscreen mode to give overview the whole history of an record
- Dosimeter: NIOSH, OSHA standards
- InstaDecibel to capture your dB report overlaid on photos and easily shared via popular social networks (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
- Support both Portrait and Landscape layouts
- Beautiful, intuitive and carefully crafted UI design
- Standard time weightings (Response Time): SLOW (500 milliseconds) and FAST (200 milliseconds)
- Trimming calibration from -15 dB to 15 dB
- Standard measurement range from 30 dBA up to 130 dBA
- HISTO graph for plotted history of the recorded values
- WAVE graph with 2 display modes: Rolling & Buffer
- Real time scale level chart
- Display Current, Average/Leq, and Max values with both nice and clear digital and analog layouts
- Quick reference text to help you compare with real-life examples
- "Keep Device Stay Awake" option for long duration recording
- Reset and clear current recording at any time
- Pause/Resume at any time
- Please do not expect a quiet room reading will be 0 dBA. The range 30 dBA - 130 dBA is the standard usable range and an average quiet room will be about 30 dBA.
- Although most devices are pre-calibrated, custom calibration is suggested for serious purposes requiring higher precision and accuracy. To calibrate, you will need a real external device or calibrated sound meter as a reference, then adjust the trimming value until the reading matches with the reference.

It's incredibly accurate, as long as you're holding the active mic upwards (away from your palm blocking sound). The problem with that is although they advertise "portrait and landscape view", there is ONLY portrait view, and no support for rotating when your phone is held upside down - making it almost impossible to read when holding it in a way that gives it accurate readings. If you advertise rotation support, then actually implement that feature please.

    Steven Hoggard

I was totally enjoying this app untill it started insisting I leave a review every time I touch it... However, an update fixed the issue and I am correcting my review to 5 stars. App is accurate when compared to my very expensive stand alone DB meters. Super convinent to have with me all the time on my phone. Easy to use and the UI is nice.

  3. Nick Nichols-avatar

Constantly asking to upgrade to premium services. It's an effing sound measure, not a photo editor.

  4. John Morrison-avatar

    John Morrison

The graphics and options are great, but the results are inaccurate. Calibration is only a linear adjustment, but it needs a slope as well to be useful.

  5. Timur Seitosmanov-avatar

shows "-infinity" all the time on my phone but works well on tablet

  6. Brian Kron-avatar

They updated the UI about a month ago and since then it's complete trash. It won't even open properly more than half the time.

  7. Mario Mendes-avatar

Scam - watch out! I paid for lifetime subscription year or so ago. But, now the app doesn't work any more. It asks for monthly subscription. Don't understand why Play Store tolerates this fraud.

  8. MikeNKarie D-avatar

Was looking forward to this app, but the moment you launch they want money and a subscription. Also their decibels are not accurate.

  9. Michael Gilbert-avatar

    Michael Gilbert

This app is nice, but the developer wants users to rent the app - you can't buy it - for an obscene $4 A MONTH! Don't support this despicable, greed driven trend. Only support developers that will let you actually own your software.

great tool. I'm learning a lot, and it is helping me enjoy music safely.
