Apps require full access to your Android device's file storage as a matter of course, and who really knows what they do with that access? Secure Storage provides secure on-device storage for documents using Android's Storage Access Framework (SAF). You can use your apps to save files to or load files from this storage using Android's builtin secure file browser. For additional security, the optional "file-wall" feature prevents apps from accessing your files without your explicit permission. Secure Storage can NOT be opened directly. It is for use from other apps. For example, the builtin GMail app will allow you to select attachments from your secure storage. You can also import documents into secure storage using the "send" or "share" feature of many apps, such as Google Drive. Tips: * When saving to secure storage from the "save as" feature of compatible apps, or renaming files using the "rename" feature of compatible apps, Secure Storage automatically appends an appropriate file extension as necessary. However, for advanced users, SDS also supports the Windows trick of suppressing this behavior by typing your desired filename in double quotes. * The "search" feature supports operators for conducting more advanced searches. Supported operators are always listed at the end of your search results. If you're not sure how to use an operator, just give it a try. Helpful feedback is displayed if your search is not understood. Makes its own app file storage available for reading and writing over SAF; in spite of there being loads of so-called "vault" apps on Google Play, the only other app I'm aware of that does the same thing is Termux. The practical upshot of that is that you can use this app to get around the fact that Android only lets you have your documents and media in emulated storage on either internal or adoptable but not both; map this app as a custom location in Total Commander or other file managers.

The "focus is on protecting user files from untrusted *APPS*, not protecting user files from other users..." BRAVO!! FINALLY, someone gets it! THANK YOU! (If this works as advertised, I'll be sending you *MULTIPLE* contributions)

Interesting idea. I would like more technical implementation details. I'm assuming it's relying on mode_private storage in the /data partition? I suggest adding password based encryption to prevent the files being recovered by rooting the device. This could also open up the possibility for secure automatic backups (exported in encrypted form, reimported and unlocked by a unique user aware key).
