The Sailing Expert application supports navigation, racing, helps sailors to keep their logbook accurate and up-to-date, keep maintenance log for different boats. The device's sensors are used to fill the log (location, COG, SOG, temperature, pressure). If a WiFi NMEA provider is available the boat sensors will be used instead. Supported NMEA Sentences: GGA, GLL, GNS, RMC - Positioning HDG, HDM, HDT, VHW - Heading VBW, VHW, VTG - Course, speed VLW - Trip log DBT, DBP - Depth RPM - Engine revolutions MDA, MHU, MMB, MTA, MTW, MWD, MWV, VWR, VWT - Meteo/weather conditions This application does not require an internet connection nor any registration for its function. While sailing you can use routes to navigate, fix a concrete bearing or target point of interest (POI) you want to sail to. The application will tell you the target course or alert if you are off course, calculate the remaining distance and estimated time of arrival (ETA). On regattas the application helps you to cross the startline on time and with optimal speed and time. While on anchor the app monitors your location and alarms you if drifted outside the set area. Scanned maps can be imported and setup up as a map source for your trips. Custom map servers can also be used with this application (OpenSea maps, OpenStreet maps, etc) Trips or their parts can be exported to CSV and GPX for use in other applications. Logged data can be synchronized with https://sail.expert where it can be edited and a printable logbook can be generated. See https://sail.expert for more details. worked great until it didn't. I was loving this app and features like the automatic logging and adding pictures, but on the 5th day of the voyage it just froze. no more log entries. it would act like it was accepting the entry, but didn't. I couldn't end the voyage either. it just froze. not even closing app could I get it to work again. too bad.

The app need the location permission all the time to work, don't know why it's need it when the app is closed

Lots to learn, but well worth the effort. This is not a bot post. This is one of three apps that I consider to be the most useful and best presented. Best used with NMEA data if you have it ( I am seriously considering buying the wind system in their suggestions, simply because it will mean I don't have to fork out for a wind-vane autopilot as well as my Navico ). Bloody good app.

Very buggy and not intuitive.

Edited my review from a negative one to a positive one - issues I reported have been answered with instructions and details of fixes to be included in future releases, will definitely be able to use this more constructively, a useful app made by helpful people! I keep finding more features the more I use it.

This App is looking promising. It clearly has a potential. But pretty useless for me until it gets support for NMEA via UDP. PS. Added 4th star for beta version with UDP support. Not sure how to install it.

I like the app, but syncing between my tablet and my phone only works partially (e.g. Cash accounting is not synced)

I am trying to find a simple sailing log book app that has no issues. Maybe it's time I make my own... This app has potential, but for a couple of issues. When the app first opens it makes an annoying sound.. Which can't be turned off!!??.. Second issue is the maps are upside down and the compass is completely wrong. I am in Australia and you have me facing south when I should be facing north!.. Uninstalled, sadly, as it has potential.

I tested this application in real condition and it works well. There are nevertheless a few points that would need to be added/modified to be fully operational for me: * Should add the notion of reef for sails * Would be nice to be able to set up the sail types for each vessel. Multi mast yachts, with several front sails or several spinnekars are not rare. * In the narrative section, add "hoisted sails" and "dropped sails' * In the narrative section, add "took reef" and "shook out reef" * In the narrative section again: "started drill" and "stopped drill" (instead of just "drill") * Just a detail: would be convenient for engine rpm field to highlight the previous value so that we just have to type the new one, instead of removing the old one before typing the new. Also I add problems adding photos because the app couldn't set the GPS position quickly. It took each time up to 1 minute to be allowed to save the picture. It is very strange as GPS was up and position showing ok in normal log section. Maybe the photo feature require a new GPS full acquisition? Also, would be nice to be able to make a donation to help the developer :-) Hope all this information helps

Been using for a while and really like it. I use nmea data for monitoring, the anchor alarm and maintenance logs. It would be nice to do more with the logs if they could be exported as a formatted text file I could import it into other applications to report, search and analyse. UPDATE after developer reply. Exporting would be useful to reproduce traditional paper logs to document the vessel history so PDF and CSV would be most useful, one to just print or email, the other to manipulate.
