La Biblioteca Digital Hispánica es la biblioteca digital de la Biblioteca Nacional de España Desde su creación en 2008, proporciona acceso libre y gratuito a miles de documentos digitalizados, entre los que se cuentan las grabaciones sonoras.

Contiene grabaciones procedentes de discos de Aristón, cilindros de cera, rollos de pianola y discos de pizarra. Comprende desde finales de siglo XIX hasta mediados del siglo XX. 

Cerca de 20.000 grabaciones divididas en 23 categorías:
Blues, Boleros ,Conciertos, Cuplés, Jazz, Flamenco, Fox-trot: grandes voces y orquestas, Frédéric Chopin, Hermanos Gershwin, Maestros de la copla: Quintero, León y Quiroga, Maestros de la zarzuela del XIX: Barbieri, Chapí, Chueca y Bretón, Música coral, Música para cine, Música religiosa del XVII y XVIII: misas y motetes, Músicos italianos en España, Registros sonoros no musicales: discursos, recitales, cuentos, humor..., Sinfonías, Tangos: Carlos Gardel, Wagner, Óperas, Discos de cera, Discos perforados y Rollos de pianola .

Colección de Cilindros de Cera
Son documentos de gran valor histórico por ser las primeras grabaciones de sonido y voz de finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX, siendo considerados como el equivalente a los incunables de la Colección impresa.

Rollos de pianola
Los primeros rollos musicales de papel perforado aparecieron hacia 1880. Pueden escucharse por medio de un instrumento mecánico de teclado denominado “pianola”, que funciona con un sistema neumático accionado por el pedaleo del “pianolista”. Las distintas notas musicales se producen al tiempo que va desenrollándose el papel, que lleva codificadas la posición de las notas del teclado en la colocación de las perforaciones.

Discos perforados 
Los primeros discos que se utilizaron para la reproducción del sonido en el siglo XIX empleaban aparatos reproductores (los “tocadiscos” más primitivos) basados en mecanismos neumáticos similares al del organillo (como en los modelos Ariston, Ariosa o Herophon) o de caja de música (como en el Symphonion). Al girar los discos sobre el plato, accionados por una manivela, las perforaciones activan los mecanismos de producción de sonido. La duración de cada pieza es siempre muy breve y coincide con lo que tarda en girar el disco una vuelta completa; a partir de ese punto, la música empieza a repetirse.

El repertorio grabado por este procedimiento consiste sobre todo en fragmentos muy populares de zarzuela (por ejemplo de La Gran Vía, de F. Chueca), valses, himnos nacionales, pequeñas piezas pianísticas, etc.

4. Discos de pizarra
Desde la invención del gramófono por E. Berliner en 1887 hasta mediados de los años cincuenta del pasado siglo, se editaron cientos de miles de grabaciones en discos de pizarra (también llamado “disco de piedra”), abarcando todos los géneros: música clásica, flamenco, zarzuela, marchas militares, música popular, ligera, óperas, archivo de la palabra, etc.

La colección de discos de pizarra de la Biblioteca está formada por más de 21.000 unidades de distintos sellos discográficos españoles y extranjeros: Compañía del Gramófono Odeón: Pathé, MGM, Regal, La Voz de su Amo, Columbia, Decca, Philips, etc. 

Entre sus temas: Blues, Boleros ,Conciertos, Cuplés, Jazz, Flamenco, Fox-trot, Coplas, Zarzuela, , Música para cine, Sinfonías, Tangos, etc.

El autor no mantiene ningún tipo de relación con la Biblioteca Nacional de España ni con la Biblioteca Digital Hispánica.

Collection of Wax Cylinders
They are documents of great historical value for being the first sound and voice recordings of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, being considered as the equivalent to the incunabula of the printed collection.

Pianola rolls
The first musical rolls of perforated paper appeared around 1880. They can be heard by means of a mechanical keyboard instrument called "pianola", which works with a pneumatic system activated by the pedaling of the "pianolista". The different musical notes are produced while unrolling the paper, which has encoded the position of the keyboard notes in the placement of the perforations.

Perforated discs
The first discs that were used for the reproduction of sound in the nineteenth century used reproductive devices (the most primitive "record players") based on pneumatic mechanisms similar to the barrel organ (as in Ariston, Ariosa or Herophon models) or music box (as in the Symphonion). By rotating the discs on the plate, driven by a crank, the perforations activate the mechanisms of sound production. The duration of each piece is always very short and coincides with what it takes to turn the disc a full turn; from that point, the music begins to repeat itself.

The repertoire recorded by this procedure consists mainly of very popular fragments of zarzuela (for example of La Gran Vía, by F. Chueca), waltzes, national anthems, small piano pieces, etc.

4. Slate disks
From the invention of the gramophone by E. Berliner in 1887 until the mid-fifties of the last century, hundreds of thousands of recordings were released on slate records (also called "stone disc"), covering all genres: classical music, flamenco, zarzuela, military marches, popular music, light, operas, word archive, etc.

The collection of slate discs of the Library is made up of more than 21,000 units from different Spanish and foreign record labels: Odeón Gramophone Company: Pathé, MGM, Regal, La Voz de su Amo, Columbia, Decca, Philips, etc.
