RadarScope is a specialized display utility for weather enthusiasts and meteorologists that allows you view NEXRAD Level 3 and Super-Resolution radar data along with Tornado, Severe Thunderstorm, Flash Flood Warnings, and predicted storm tracks issued by the US National Weather Service. It can display the latest reflectivity, velocity, dual-polarization, and other products from any NEXRAD or TDWR radar site in the United States, Guam and Puerto Rico, as well as reflectivity and velocity data from Environment Canada radars. These aren't smoothed PNG or GIF images, this is native radar data rendered in its original radial format for a high level of detail.

Whether you are scanning reflectivity for a mesocyclone's tell-tale hook echo, trying to pinpoint the landfall of a hurricane's eye wall, or looking for small features like velocity couplets in the storm relative radial velocity product, RadarScope gives you the power to view true radial NEXRAD weather radar on your Android device.

When there are any Tornado Warnings (outlined in RED), Severe Thunderstorm Warnings (YELLOW polygons), or Flash Flood Warnings (GREEN polygons) in effect throughout the US, tap the warning button in the top right corner to browse the list of current warnings, view the details, and even zoom to the selected warning on the map.

Pinch or stretch to zoom in and out. Drag your finger around the map to scroll. Tap the radar sweep button in the toolbar to switch radars. Select one of the 156 different NEXRAD radar sites and 45 Terminal Doppler radars in the US, 30 other radar sites in Canada, and 2 in the Republic of Korea. Plot your current location by tapping the location button and optionally report it to the Spotter Network. Tap the play button to download and animate over recent images. Display the names of over 25,000 cities and towns on the map as you zoom and scroll. Tap and hold the color legend to see the data values.

Meanwhile, RadarScope will retrieve and display updated data automatically and intelligently (approximately every 2 to 10 minutes, depending on the radar scan strategy).

You can display data from NOAA's public access web site, our optional WDT feed (the default), or your AllisonHouse subscriber account. Spotter Network members can report their location and view the locations of other spotters.

The RadarScope Pro subscription is an optional auto-renewing subscription with two different tiers to choose from. Super-res products are still available to all RadarScope users without purchasing a subscription.

RadarScope Pro Tier 1 provides access to real-time lightning data that animates along with the radar loop and up to 20 frames of radar data, including *extended loops* of Super-Res Level 2 data. Tier 1 subscribers can also access a data interrogation tool to quickly determine data values for specific radar pixels and an optional dual-pane mode for viewing two radar products side-by-side.

RadarScope Pro Tier 2 combines all the features in Tier 1 with more advanced features, including a 30-day archive of all radar products, estimated hail size contours, rotation (azimuthal shear) contours, and the ability to use subscription features across multiple platforms.

If you choose to buy the RadarScope Pro subscription, it will be charged to your Google Play account. Subscriptions renew automatically, and you're charged at the beginning of each subscription period. Subscriptions may be managed and auto-renewal disabled via your Google Play app after the purchase.

I love this program. It has everything you want and a lot more. THANK YOU FOR ADDING THE SPEED CONTROL for the loop! This program is loaded with features and I'm sure you'll like it. The initial cost and the yearly subscription of $9.99 which includes lightning data is more than reasonable. Thank you for your continued work on this paid radar app! Samsung Galaxy S10 + with Android 10 .

  2. Mike Escalante-avatar

for windows free The best radar product out there. It's encouraged me to learn more about how radars work and how to read/interpret the various radar data products provided. There's a user guide in the settings for beginners like me - I learned about some nice long-press shortcuts by reading it. It's well worth the $9.99.

review I loved it , until it was time for my subscription to be renewed, i paid it and have not been able to use it for like a week, i have uninstalled it, and re installed it, ive done everything i know to do, im paying for this and it IS NOT WORKING

canada So far, great app. Saw this recommended for enthusiasts and got it. One thing I noticed is my Spotter Network locator dot does not show on the map 9/10 times opening the app. Have to close/reopen the app several times to get it tp show up.

user guide Best one out there (so far) Even the (quite expensive) pro versions of the app leave much functionality to be desired. As of now, though, there are no better apps on the play store-- one could do much worse.

  6. Chris Brown-avatar

apple watch I'm shocked I haven't reviewed this app. It's been fantastic keeping me alert of what's around me and allowing me to save others from bad weather events as well.

  7. Michelle Morawski-avatar

definition I mean, there's a reason we all use this app. I absolutely love it; it has an easily navigable UI and no weird bloat with ads or other unnecessary features or permissions.

android Absolute best radar app ever, love it so much. If you're a weather nerd you want to marry this app, it's incredible for every need.

  9. hpaich-avatar

tier 2 Used to adore this app. After last night's update, I'm much less in love with it. Navigation on the radar screen is very jumpy and skittery, and I hate the different color of the water. The font on all of the wording also seems to be smaller; it's very difficult to read. I'm so disappointed.

weather I've been using RadarScope Pro Tier 2 for about a year. This 4.0 update addressed several issues I had. The map is much clearer than before, easier to read. It's nice to see something on a radar and be able to look up and see it in the sky above me. I've used it while traveling to stop and wait for a severe storm to pass, before continuing on.

I began using several months ago after seeing my Daughter using. I asked her to install it for me and I used it quite often. Unfortunately a few weeks ago my device fell to the ground and is no longer usable. I hope to be able to install it on my replacement device soon. I am a Travel Nurse and commute by Motorcycle the majority of the time. Real time radar views are important to me and help me plan my trips.

  12. Ben Sharp-avatar

Previous issues fixed. Some complaints were simply a learning issue. Sorry about those. Thanks. Love this app. it has been everything I had heard and more. EXTREMELY pleased with my choice to go with Tier 1 Pro. Wish I could afford Tier 2, but it's just beyond my price range since my County EM Dept switched to GC3 commercial software.

  13. Quinn Sedam-avatar

Looks like some sort of update happened overnight and not only changed the way the app looks it took away one of its best features! The directional view was one of the critical aspects I used this radar for. Sucks that I pay for the service yet they take features away. The directional compass on this app needs to be fixed otherwise it's worthless.

  14. adogarza-avatar

Problems after last update, the compass function and the cross hair does not work properly after the update. A gigantic cross hair shows when location button is pressed. The compass seems to be erratic. I hope they fix this great application in the next update.

Good update, just two issues...1. In the Houston area, the roads are not fully complete, some are just halfway done and 2. The Fort Bend and Harris County (Houston) line are not connected. Could yall fix this, just makes my OCD more bad lol. Thank you!

  17. Jacob P-avatar

This is the best weather radar app for people who want all the level 2 and 3 radar products. If you're looking for a radar app just to tell you where it's raining, this app isn't for you. It's geared toward weather enthusiasts and hobbyists, and it's very good at what it does.

  18. Gunnar Wye-Rodney-avatar

Great app, I use it all the time. Recently though, there was an update or a bug that makes the map background grey. Since then the panning and camera zooming has been much more laggy and shaky and buggy in general.

I really like this app but it seems that every time I click on a different tower on the map the radar image won't show till I press play which annoying but it used to not happen, but that is the only problem I'm seeing so far.

  21. Seth Keeling-avatar

Alright, so I tried this app. I found it completely counterintuitive. I have used several of these apps. They all generally make it easy to switch from city to city and allow you to retrieve a weather report for the area being researched. I'm out $10 and cant get a fuggin weather report? Please refund my money. Your subscription prices are insane. Ill stick with the weather apps I have. Do your homework before you download this. There are other weather apps that make a lot more sense to a first time user. Thanks. Rick

Extremely high resolution. As a storm spotter/photographer, it has done everything I need it to, and then some. Couldn't be happier with this app as a whole. I have the 10 dollar a year version which is totally worth it. I highly recommend this to anyone who just wants to keep tabs on the weather, even if not chasing.

My wife uses the app, she bought it for the lightning tracker. At the time she only had to pay the $10 for the entire package. I purchased the app and now I have to purchase the lightning feature for another $10, not worth the money if you have to purchase additional features.

Best weather app I've ever used. We live in Florida and own horses. In the summer we have daily thunderstorms which can be deadly to horses. We use this radar app to get the heads when an approaching thunderstorm is near and we bring our horses in to their stalls.

  57. Roberto Torres-avatar

Great app. Not worth the $10 just to get into the door, though. I would expect something as important as lighting would be included in the $10 initial purchase, but that courtesy is another $10 for the year. Lost me on that, so I requested a refund. Lightning should be included in the $10 download. Other than that, great looking radar and very accurate and detailed.

Great weather radar app! Very useful and helpful to watch storms coming towards you. Lots of options in the free version. Perfect for amateur weather enthusiasts. Thinking of paying for the paid version bc it's useful to me since I live in a tornado and hurricane prone area. Helped me to get into my safe place before I got tornado warnings from watching the radar signs. Seriously can't say enough good things about this app!

  61. Andy Jones-avatar

    Andy Jones

Its an awesome tool. The only thing I can think of at the time of this review is that, if a Tornado warning and another type of warning are overlapped then there needs to be an option to get info either warning. It won't let me chooses which one I want to see. So, if I need to know about a tornado then the severe thunderstorm warning keeps popping up, not the tornado.

Personally, someone else pays for my tier two sub so that's always great but my gripes are as follows. No level 2 storm relative motion data. A lack of some derived products you will find in gr2analyst. admittedly, it's understandable as this is a mobile app but the addition of level 2 storm relative motion data would be helpful for people who are spiders and or so-called chasers. Still, without a doubt, the best radar app available.

Finally found it! Wow after going through app after app of trash weather radar apps I finally found a fast, reliable, accurate radar app that just works. Years ago I feel in love with Raindar but the app feel to the wayside like almost every weather app out there! This app is worth every penny! I don't understand why they have made it so hard to find a good free radar app, but I'm glad someone offers a decent paid one!

I had been using MyRadar which is very good until my local NWS office Skywarn trainer recommended this app (it's what he uses). It is superb and professional level. But it's really $20/year for the Pro Tier One service that most serious users will want. A bit pricey. Only 4 stars due to cost.

It is amazing, best radar app you can buy! The base version is all that I use (you can pay a yearly fee to upgrade to different tiers), and it has everything I need/want! Reflectivity, velocity, correlation coeffecient, accumulation, GPS positioning, storm relative motion, and more! The images are very high-res and easy to understand. Well worth $10!!

Awesome app! I have used this app for at least 3 years. It's always great when you're out and about and cant pull out a laptop. I would like to see this with Android Auto so I can pull the radar up when driving down the road and not have to use my phone while driving. (Is this in the works or have been thought of? Currently Android Auto does not have any weather apps, it would be cool to see this be the first app.)

  76. Curtis Wells-avatar

This app is amazing and I'd consider it a lifesaver. As the tornadic storm was developing before it hit Lawrence, KS and linwood being able to look at the velocity in this app you could tell something serious was going to happen. The views this app will give you is far more better than what live local television will show the public. Luckily this tornado missed us by a few miles.

Would be my go to radar app it it had the ability to view more data than just one radar. Living on the West side of Michigan, just a few miles from the lake, being able to see what is going on in Chicago, where most of the storms come from, is very important. This ability to zoom out and see more is available in every other radar app. The app for my watch is a joke. Always shows the radar multiple states away from me, then crashes.

  79. Alexander Barber-avatar

    Alexander Barber

It's worked flawlessly for me so far. I used PYKL3 before this, and I definitely think that this has a better feature set, is easier to use, and has a nicer overall design. The pro subscriptions seem to be a point of contention here, but given that they are providing non-standard services (requiring server costs), I think the prices are very reasonable. Even if you don't need/want to upgrade, the coolest thing is that the developer made it possible to remove the buttons of unavailable features. That's really cool for UX, and I hope more apps follow suit.

just purchased this app yesterday worked very well i was aware of rotation in a cell that passed by a good 5 minutes before the warnings were issued last night by watching the radar. only bug in the program i see is locking in an area using area code it shows my town on it about 15 miles north of where it actually is. a very minor glitch cuz you can still see your town on the map if its big enough

RadarScope is my favorite weather app out there. As a weather geek, I always wanted to find an up-to-date, by the minute, accurate radar, and that is exactly what RadarScope offers. Not only that, but you can see radar from the US, Canada and other countries. You have access to many types of radar sweeps like Reflectivity and Velocity mode, used by all meteorologists. You can even see a storm's track and estimated intensity. Overall, RadarScope is worth the money and my favorite weather app.

Absolutely stunning! For a weather geek, forcaster, and safety stickler like me, this app is 5 star hands down. This app has high-res reflectivity, velocity, correlation coefficient for tornadoes, and many more features that aren't in ordinary weather apps. I'm only a kid and I still get a kick out of the app. So if you are a meteorologist, storm spotter, weather enthusiast, or want to have your life for a long time, then please get this app.

Improvements: Since the discontinuation of Pykl3 I have been forced to purchase a new professional radar viewer. This is a nice app and has all the same feature as PYKL3, however I am disappointed in WDT for charging for hail indicators and vortex signatures. Now some may argue that WDT needs to make money for itself, but there is other apps that include this for free I have seen. I would happily pay 20$ or more for the app and have this all in it then pay a yearly subscription. Just my thoughts. I think there can be some better organization to how you market stuff. What I love: In regards to the app, I don't have one single complaint about it and the design gets a 5*. I love it just like I loved Pykl3. I am happy with all the information that is presented for the weather professional in this app. It is a clean interface that is easy to use and even has some other added radar products for the professional to use. Recommendations: Can we get spotter network integration? Kudos on including MPing reports!

Excellent app for storm tracking. All products work about 95% of the time. I wish there were a little more geographic detail and options for including road names, etc. The biggest issue I have is being completely unable to login with my Spotter Network credentials. I wish this would be fixed!

  85. Rick-avatar

I'm another Pykl3 refugee. Overall, RadarScope is a decent quality app. Super-res and dual-pol data is great. The one feature I really miss from Pykl3 is the zoomed out CONUS/national mosaic product. Being able to see all CONUS WX activity at a glance with the ability to tap on any site to load that particular site's local data was great. I would also like to see more options for GIS map layer products, map color/detail customization, more ability to fine-tune the displayed radar data, etc. 3.5*

It's pricey for the average user that just wants radar. This app is for amateur weather watchers and storm chasers. There is a subscription for some advanced features. The app gives me the best radar details of any of them I've had. It's a good app, but the subscription model is way too high priced to make it any more than a basic radar app.

My account does not allow me to report my position on Spotter Network, yet everyone else I know has no issue with it. I uninstalled and reinstalled, no luck. Also charges for basic things that Pykl3 came with for no extra charges or subscriptions. Cannot zoom in as far either.. I'm really let down being forced to purchase this app since Pykl3 is no longer supported or developed. If I could at least get SN reporting my location, I'd feel safer when chasing, and give at least 4 stars.

This is my go-to radar app now but it's not as good as the PYKL3 radar app that is no longer available. I'd greatly appreciate it if the developers would improve highway resolution to show secondary and smaller roads. I live just outside Prescott, Arizona and there are no roads shown anywhere near my home. This makes it extremely difficult to navigate around severe storms when they are frequent during the summer monsoon. PLEASE improve your highway resolution.

Best radar app for Android by far. Level II data is great. I think the $9/yr Pro upgrade is very worthwhile for additional features (dual-display, 30 frame history, lightning). I was a devoted PYKL3 user until development was discontinued but this app meets and exceeds PYKL3 in terms of ease of use, responsiveness, and data display. Although PYKL3 did have more view customization options.

Great app, I'm subscribed to pro tier 1. Two options I would like to see added: adjustable loop playback speed, and multiple radar selection.

update 3.9.2 did not fix the problem with this app crashing or freezing up. it was working fine prior to the 3.9.1 update. After several back and forth communications with WDT support it should have been fixed. I will be contacting them again in frustration. UPDATE 09/26/19 Most recent update fixed problem. APP is working again. It is truly the best radar app available and I am happy to have it working again.

The best radar app by far! I have used RadarScope for years and have tracked many powerful winter storms and severe thunderstorms with it, and it has performed flawlessly. When I had a few questions about billing, I got a quick, friendly and helpful reply from the RadarScope team. I highly reccomend this app.

  94. David Tshudy-avatar

Well worth the price! If you've tried other apps and are tired of ads, old, inaccurate and incomplete weather radar, RadarScope is what you need. I haven't tried the pro license. The non-pro version is just fine for a casual user who wants to see the local weather radar. Extremely satisfied with my purchase.

This app is amazing. I have been through multiple hurricanes and tornadoes. This app allowed me to track exactly where the storms are and general arrival time. I've used this app to wake family up in another state and it saved their life. I love that this app also works on newer Chromebooks. There is a learning curve and it would be great if there was a better users guide. This app has so many options to provide excellent information.

  96. Nathan Mills-avatar

    Nathan Mills

The app is fine, but the subscription model is just plain abusive. I have no problem paying a recurring fee for better data feeds, lightning, etc, but requiring a recurring payment for basic on-device features like the inspector tool when the app itself costs money is not OK. Do yourself (and the rest of us) a favor and skip this app.

  97. Pascal Leclair-avatar

    Pascal Leclair

i have to pay an EXTRA 10 dollars on top of what i already paid just to get a better frame rate? PYKL3 had this standard when you paid for the app. No smoothing of images too, its like looking at radar frame rates from the 90s. These are just basic features here, people. It is easier to use, but I'd take functionality over ease of use.

  98. Bruce Maki-avatar

    Bruce Maki

I don't mind spending ten bucks on a decent weather radar app, but this app only has one of the four basic precipitation reflectivity tilt angles, 0.5 degrees. There isn't even Composite Reflectivity, which is the standard for free weather apps. Modern weather radar has about 30 different images that can be viewed, such as Cloud Tops and four different Velocity (wind speed) tilt angles. I guess I got spoiled by the now-defunct PYKL3 Radar app. Bummer...

A true Doppler Weather Radar app! I just installed this app on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 with Android 9 Pie and the latest security patch, and everything works great with fast redraws, and very nice zoom detail in the app's Super-Res modes with my Note 8's screen resolution set to medium (FHD+, 2220 x 1080). I elevated to the RadarScopePro Tier 1 data subscription, which is very reasonable at $10/yr. This gives me near real-time lightning reporting integrated with radar animation, which is important to me since I work with SCADA systems using wireless digital narrow band. While testing the Extended Playback feature out on the road I have noticed that my AT&T prepaid plan has poor network performance, so if you are out of the office frequently it might make sense to get a premium Verizon data plan. The RadarScopePro is a serious data rendering tool. It is not your typical emotional weather app showing a fluffy dog and kids running through the lawn sprinklers to depict a summer day.

  100. Jean-avatar

This is app is not worth ten dollars. You can only have 1 radar active at a time and switching between radars is a pita. There are free apps outthere that do this a million times better.

  101. Keith Robertson-avatar

Wondering why it charged me twice? Once in may and once in June when it should actually renew. The app works great but I don't want to pay for it twice a year.

PYKL3 WAS BETTER! Google, you MURDERERS! Now I get to use Radarscope, which I've had for a while. My biggest problem with this app, well there are a few. For starters, the base color palette is way too hype mongering. Pretty much places you under what you expect would be a severe thunderstorm when in fact it's just a light rain. Another huge issue I have run into with this program is that there seems to be problems with data retrieval, at least on my devices. Many times I have switched it on and been rewarded with 8, 10, 24 hour old images that refuse to update. Not even with force closes and cache clears. But other programs do not show the site as inactive as I can clearly still retrieve current images from the same site. Big problem for someone using this under severe weather. These are just a couple of reasons why I really preferred PYKL3 over rs but unfortunately now I don't have a choice for a good severe mobile radar app. Thanks, Google!

extremely disappointed with this app even on wifi the radar NEVER wants to load, not to mention it gets my location wrong, and when I attempt to change my location it for some reason changes the radar playback all the way to 6a.m and the only way to change the time back to current, is to uninstall the app and reinstall it, I'll definitely be looking into a different radar.

  105. John Kittz-avatar

    John Kittz

It stays 8 minutes delayed. You cant have a radar which stays 8 minutes behind when tracking storms. This is disappointing for a 9.99 app. If this isnt fixed I'll get a refund.

  106. Mark Okabe-avatar

    Mark Okabe

A solid radar app that works well with AllisonHouse and for the most part is on top of information, alerts and data in 5 minute windows. a good companion app to contrast against PYKL3 when looking for accuracy on storm info. One thing I've run into but not necessarily found an answer is when a radar station goes down. The callsign does turn red but I haven't found anything giving a report from NWS/agency manager of the radars status or return to service time frame. A would be nice thing to add?

  107. Bryan Riebel-avatar

Must-have if you live in tornado prone areas. You won't get warning notifications from this one, but you will be able to view the velocity data that is usually difficult or impossible to access from mainstream free apps. That's the green and red view that the pros use, if you didn't already know.

  108. Chris Rohr-avatar

    Chris Rohr

I do not think that this app is worth the money. I have used this app for a few years and very rarely have I found it useful compared to any other radar app available. The ability to only select one radar site at a time is very limiting, especially if you live equidistant from several sites. The radar does seem to be very accurate and updates frequently, however the picture appears pixelated and grainy. I do not think I would recommend this app.

  109. Jamie 0xJxxMx0-avatar

    Jamie 0xJxxMx0

This app is ok, however paying $9.99 every year is a bit much for what it offers. It's not a groundbreaking app. It's nothing special. It's not offering me something I can't get elsewhere for less money so I really do not understand why they want me to pay again every year. I wouldn't mind paying the initial $9.99 and then paying a dollar or 2 every year after that if they gave me a good reason for it. As far as I can tell this app uses the same systems as all the others and they provide the same services without the yearly wallet gouging. Doesn't seem right to me. If there was some sort of mechanical maintenance or tech upkeep to be done that's fine, but let subscribers know that that's what we're paying for. At the very least a reminder that the subscription is running out or has run out would be nice.

  110. Phillip Ramirez-avatar

    Phillip Ramirez

This is just a basic front end with a subscription. The actual views are geared towards weather professionals and if you dont know what they do will only cause confusion. Unless you pay 100 a year for the add ones of 10 a month. This is a basic radar you can get from other programs

Joined with loss of PYKL3 support. Would like to have ability to customize return filter so I can set the minimum return I want to reduce clutter. I notice that wind farms really show up on some radar sites. Noticed sometimes the radar data does not show up when opening app. Radar status messages would be a plus too to give ETA on fix or know if scheduled maintenance.

This app has literally, saved my life more than once on the water. Lightning tracker is a must have feature in my opinion. In addition, just remember weather changes quick and the app only updates every 5 minutes which is incredibly fast but still not as fast as mother nature. Be safe!

  115. Stanley West-avatar

    Stanley West

This app UI is very outdated for latest Android, very iPhoneish. The radar is good but you only get the radar and no velocity or other radar options. The app is a rip off cause you have to pay $10 to get less than what I've gotten on others for free then you have 2 different monthly pay options to get other features. Since there's monthly payment options this app should be free. Usually when that amount of money is paid for an app you get all features.

  116. Rick Rose-avatar

Seems similar to pykl but doesn't appear to have any smoothing. Doesn't have enough towns displayed. The roads and highways are barely visible. No ability to tap on a location and see a pop up for a link to the radar site closest to the point. Rather overpriced for what you get.

  117. Robert Phelps-avatar

Edited 6-27 from my original complaint about the app being broken by the 3.9.1 update I'd have to say RadarScope is one of the best radar apps on the Play Store, the price is worth it. Especially helpful when caught in a bed storm and your local news station isn't covering your area.

  118. D Bray-avatar

BY FAR...the best radar app. It's put together well with a wealth of information. No other compares! I have a subscription that's $9.99/yr. for extra features that no other radar app can do. Totally worth it and it helps the developer continue to improve the app.
