1882년 어느날 캠버리지 대학의 몇몇 학생들이 모여 심각히 논의를 합니다. 크리스천임에도 불구하고 마음과 생활이 세속적인 삶으로 가득차 있음을 깨닫고 , 기도하면서 해결 방법을 찾기 시작했습니다. 거룩한 삶을 살기 위해서 찾아낸 방법은 하루의 얼마를 성경 읽기와 기도로 보낸다는 것입니다. 그들은 이시간을 경건의 시간이라 불렀고 경건의 시간을 기억자! 라는 슬로건을 외치면 신앙생활을 해 나갔습니다. 결국 이들 캠브리지 7인은 중국 선교사로 헌신하며 평생을 하나님과 동행하면서 주님의 사역을 감당해 갔습니다. 후에 이들의 경건훈련 방법인 ‘경건의 시간(Quit Time)'을 여러 사람들이 사용하기 시작했고 놀라운 영적능력이 계속 나타나게 되었습니다.
