Editing my review and changing it to 3 stars because I made a mistake - you CAN sort downloads (I didn't realize this because they changed the way it works in an update and I had to turn the ability back on, which is still weird, but I digress). It is a good app, but they still need to update the player control UI so that you're not constantly hitting the scroll bar when trying to hit Play/Pause. Other than that, I have no further problems with the app, it works well for what it does.

Audio ads start playing at random over podcasts. If this is a new way to monitise I will find a new player. It's now even worse... Loud audio ads start playing at random even when the app is not being used. Just happened while using chrome. And happens 5+ times per day. Many others have reported similar issues before and clearly nothing is being done to fix this so it's time I bid farewell to this app.

I've been using this app for over 5 years and one small change has completely ruined it. Get rid of the audio adverts guys, they're awful and bugged to Hell. I've had them playing on a loop, cutting out and replaying midway through, and overlapping two adverts at once. They don't even work as adverts, just a messy terrible experience. Anyone got a recommendation for a replacement podcast player?

September 2021. Wow, audio adverts over the top of my podcasts. Time to find a new player. What a shame. I've been using this for years, love it and have no reason to change. The only thing I'd like is an easy way to change the playback speed, especially in Fullscreen Carmode so I can play casts with lots of music at normal speed - a simple 2 button +/- would be perfect.

It's over for podkicker. Was my app of choice but the ads just talk over your podcasts now. I can't understand why you'd burn your app this way after its been so good for so long. Money I guess? Anyway, I'm out and will look for another app. I don't recommend anyone use podkicker anymore. You'll see that I'll get a reply below ⬇️ "we're sorry but that's surely not how the app should behave" like many others. It's clearly how you want the app to behave otherwise you'd disable it 🤷🏼‍♂️

Not only have audio ads started to play, both while actively using the app, listening to podcasts, and while it's in standby mode, but it's now started to play the same ad over and over in a loop. Unusable. Needs to be fixed before I'll consider using it again.

Overall this is a very good podcast app with a couple pain points. Example: The scroll bar when browsing episodes is way too touchy so clicking around brings you way up or down in the list by accident. Additionally, when there's no internet collection it just blanks out which is confusing if you don't know what's wrong. Overall though it's pretty easy to use and lets you add your rss feeds too.

I don't know what happened with this app but it's using a crazy amount of data lately. It used 2 GB of data in the last 2 days without me realizing it. Since it's the end of the billing period, those 2 GB pushed me way over the limit and costed me $50. My best guess is the automatic download setting is ignoring the other setting that says wifi only and just downloading things on cellular network. Still I only listen to 5 or 6 podcasts so can't see how it can use that much data.

  9. Jinks B-avatar

    Jinks B

Free version now has audio ads that DROWN OUT the podcast you're listening to. Not pause then resume it. I've used this app for over 5 years and recommended it highly. No more. I will not be blackmailed into a monthly payment by having my listening experience ruined.

Used to be a great minimalist podcast app. Now it's constantly jamming extra audio ads into my podcasts. The player controls are too small and bunched together making making scrubbing past ads and interstitials in podcasts a frustrating task. Will be using a different app for podcasts.
