Great app. Have used for years. Do your research on hardware and video encoding before driving into this. As you can see from most of the reviews, people clearly do not know what they are doing when it comes to setting up their servers. My only issue with the app is mobile sync features. They stay stuck at pending for android unless I delete the device from the authorized list, uninstall the app, and then add the device back. Besides this I've had no issues recently.

Love Plex! I've set it up for myself and others. Bought the lifetime access. I wish they would bring back being able to pull the video from a cloud service like Google Drive or Dropbox. Otherwise, works great and rarely have any issues. Able to access my library wherever I have a good connection. Looking forward to more great things coming from Plex.

Once I installed the app not knowing that they're going to charge me to activate it on my Android phone. To find out that I can't cast it to my smart TV from an LG Q70. I want my money back. Not to mention I downloaded the app on my Smart TV and it won't work there either without a subscription.

Great app confusing choices in design. Why can't you manually change anything? Why does it all have to be automated meaning you have to learn how it thinks first in order for it to automate corrdctly? I don't know. Seems needlessly complicated however once you figure it out it's a really cool system overall. I'm worried at some point I will have more issues but for the time being I've figured out most of the quirks so this app is really cool right now.

Very easy setup. Very easy to navigate and I wish I would have taken this leap earlier. I can seamlessly watch videos, shows, listen to podcasts and music on all my devices with no effort in worrying about formats for each platform. I have a roku TV, couple fire sticks, windows laptop, ubuntu laptop, Xbox and iPhone on my network. All content works on all devices. Great product!

I played with Plex since it was recommended by friends after i got a TV with built in Roku. Works great for me. Easy to set up my library even though i had to rename hundreds of movies. I like it, works for me, no issues encountered. The metadata can use some work. Movies and show with names same as older shows will show incorrect metadata at times.

Plex Server is great at organizing your media. The Android app does go back and forth with every update on overall ease of use, but the ability to automatically sync shows on my phone before I travel is quite convenient. All in all, I am quite pleased with the service the Plex family of software is able to provide.

Will work for a while. Errors have always caught up no matter which android device I use. Disappointing since it costs on this platform but the free smart TV app works perfect on all TVs. Can't believe I paid for this on 3 android (family) accounts and all have stopped working at some point and in this case, less than 2 months since I installed it on this brand new device

I used to be a big fan of Plex and when it when the developers released a mobile app I was delighted! However, as others have mentioned, with every update there seems to be a new set of problems that affect the app in one way or another. The user experience suffers and in turn we are forced to write reviews such as this! With all the advancements in the automation of QA with tech like CI/CD, how is it possible to release software with critical bugs?

Works great! When it works, it works amazing! Could be a bit easier to access the whole library for Photos and Videos that you have made yourself as it is hidden a bit in menus. Also could be nice to get notifications of when the server is down and an error code possibly to explain why it went down.

I like to consider this app as a one time use. Meaning you get to use it without any issues one time, and then it won't load any of your content without having to log out/login or uninstall/reinstall. Pretty disappointed in the software compared to the service as a whole. I think this is a selling point on the paid service which is even more ridiculous.

This is everything I've always wanted in music streaming, and more. After ditching iTunes years ago, I finally have all my own music back, with the ADDED BENEFIT of mixing in music from TIDAL that I don't own with playlists of my own music. Automatic mobile photo uploading is just a plus. I discovered Plex when I started to disengage from Google and got my own NAS (Synology). Integration of Plex and TIDAL on my NAS is seamless. Couldn't be happier.

Just keeps getting slicker all the time, use this app often. I use it to watch movies so I don't keep the wife awake, some wireless headphones and good to go! I turned my 67yr old mom onto it recently and she picked up navigating before I could get annoyed with all the texts & calls asking questions. Worth the $5 a month for your Plex pass! IMO been running a plex server in our home for the past 6yrs now, the app is available on whack of platforms and they are updated regularly.

Great app, as for the other users that have problem regarding video is not streaming correctly that is in most cases bad video format, as for app and server sync it working excellent. I use plex server and app for few years, also use for RPi 2 and 3, PCs and everything work fine without any lags or problems, for those that have problems they didn't configure server properly or similar. Just continue with like this...

as an ex Kodi user, I can say I like Plex, but it has it's downsides. I used it for a while now and the premise is great, but like most of this community built software, it is buggy as hell. I love being able to watch my own movies on demand but every version I have has issues of some kind. The Android version has been horrible for playback recently, even on my 5G home network. The network and server are more than fast enough to handle even 4k HDR Blu-ray. I'll update when stops being an issue.

Echo what others have said, seems to be getting progressively worse with regular connection issues - spinning wheel until force closing and re-opening the app, likewise bits of my library appearing unavailable and inconsistently remembering my place in large audiobooks (offering to resume from 16 minutes rather than the nearly 5 hours I had listened to!!). Having said all that, when it works it works really well and the underlying system is full of potential just a shame the developers don't seem to listen to the feedback of their users.

The server is incredible and I love Plex as a whole but there is a MAJOR issue breaking the app with this version on Android. No matter if it's an Android phone, tablet or TV, playback just STOPS while playing anything on this update (7.29.x). Please look into this, and I will share on your forums and other places.

Bait & Switch! :( Why does it say under FREE FEATURES "• Enjoy streaming of any media on your Plex Media Server to other Plex apps"? In order to play my personal videos (stored on my PlexServer) on my phone via this app, I have to either activate a paid Plex subscription or pay $4.99+tax via the Google Play Store for a 1-time activation. Not cool.

Im annoyed that the premium feature is so expensive monthly and while i want the features, I'm not willing to pay monthly and not have it count towards the lifetime subscription cost so i intend to wait till i have some spare change and jump for the lifetime subscription to premium.

Every update breaks this app. The users have to get used to the new layout and things they do every single time they upgrade... It's annoying. Apart from that the app does not work for me since the last update... It was such a great idea but the execution in the mobile app is horrible.

I mostly use the mobile app for listening to podcasts. They've fixed the bug where you can't play downloaded podcasts. However, I still can't skip forward or backward when playing a downloaded podcast, or select a spot to play from. It causes the podcast to start over from the beginning. Force closing the app and reopening usually allows you to play from where you were before it started over, but this is highly frowned upon doing while driving.

Music sorting is gone every time app is restarted. For example, I select SORT / Album Artist, and after restarting app it's back to SORT / Title (default sorting). App works perfectly on iOS, but not on Android. Being a paid app these things should be taken care of. UPDATE 15/03/2020: After the latest update released on 11/03, the sorting issue is solved. Thanks!

Plex has fulfilled a need I had in my life so succinctly that I will always have a place in my heart for it. I have considered buying a lifetime pass but the benefits wouldn't affect me and I am concerned about the future of the company/program, but for the last four years Plex has suited my needs so well with very few hiccups. It takes some tailoring to iron out the kinks, especially when a new update rolls out, but I am still in love with Plex.

Frustrated with synced content. They really need to make accessing synced content seamless. Half the time the app keeps wanting to connect back to server on a weak data connection. There's no way for me to force it to go offline. Why not just make a tab call sync like Netflix which always shows the synced content in one place all the time (with or without data connection).

New video player DOES NOT WORK! For android tv, the new player doesn't work, never has. Every time the app updates, I have to go back into settings and disable the new video player. Please fix it. The back button on shield doesn't work, and the video is not full screen, it jitters, and the sound cuts in and out. Did plex even test it on the shield? It's kinda their flagship android tv box, so annoying for paid service!

I used to use Plex a long time ago and I was pleased with the experience. I recently decided to build another Plex server and I'm happily surprised at how well Plex has aged. The software is very good, there is very little manual maintenance for meta data on my library, Plex handles it all. I'm definitely considering purchasing a lifetime Plex pass, but at $150, I'm on the edge.

I have plexpass lifetime. Plex is a really low IQ app. It offers options to "customize" it that are useless and the standard options on what you will see on home screen lack desirability completely. The stuff plex wants to push will constantly come back in your face no matter how many times you disable it. I am beginning to REALLY dislike companies that openly ruin the user experience to nakedly advance their own monetary advantage at costumer expense.

Finicky at best on Android. I recently discovered this and created a server. The Android app is absolutely atrocious!! Its an embarrassment that the app continues to crash and has connectivity issues. Had to manually point this app and PS4 app to my server. Takes 5-8 connection attempts on android to STREAM MUSIC. I LOVE Plex and its possibilities, but its Android app is some hot garbage. Fix the crashes for 5 stars. I'm also a lifetime subscriber and dont regret it.

Used this primarily for music. The interface is functional but uses out of date interface theming and also doesn't follow common UI patterns so it's often hard to figure out what screen you're in or how you got there. The paid offline feature is also buggy, sometimes refusing to download, or skipping songs in a playlist causing it to misreport what song is currently playing. I've switched to Tidal as it has an attention to polish, down to handling of metadata, and streams FLAC just as well.

The android app does not appear to buffer/cache the music and thus playback is shite. I have paid for Plex Pass and to be honest I would be happy get to get money back. Great app for streaming pretty much all media, had a few minor hiccups initially with not being able to resume films after pausing and slight video to audio sync (now & then) but after upgrading the server pc to an i5 with 8gb ram they seem to have resolved it. Can now also stream to multiple devices without any lag or syncing issues. Streaming in house to multiple android devices and tvs. Great app.

I like the previous versions better because it was easier to navigate. There is a new bug that makes it so that when I leave a WiFi network I have to restart my whole phone to access synced content. If this gets fixed I'll be happy to change this rating but untill then I'll have to wait.

I am using this app on my Galaxy tab s5e. Issue 1: I filter the content in my library to show only unwatched. When I finish watching the last episode in a show and hit the back bottom to return back to the library the app crashes. Issue 2: When I try to cast to my TV from the app it shows that the episode starts and starts playing on device (no picture as expected) but it does not display the content on my TV. I am trying to cast the a Chromecast ultra. Offline watching could use some work.

For movies & music it's the best home experience. I've used Kodi for offline music & videos but that requires constant transfers between hard drives & inferior UI. Plex simplifies by AV files as I only manage 1 database & stream to LG TV, Android box, tablets & phones. My family loves it too!

You pay for a product you expect there be customer service to help with the constant problems. Instead, the onus is on the customer to search through 1000s of pages on a forum to try and find the answers. Not to mention when you do post, no one from Plex answers. Very frustrating, shouldn't be allowed to sell something if it's clearly still in beta.

I love Plex and it's really useful but this app is atrocious. If it doesn't get stuck in a loading loop it's playing the video in a tiny portion of the screen. If it's not doing that then it's forgetting how to sync files leaving an annoying notification on my phone all day. If it's not doing that then it's forgetting how to order my TV libraries. All to access a service I'm paying for on my own hardware. The UI is slow and unintuitive too. I'm running out of space now but you get the point.

While Plex is still superior to most other media managers, the android client has been progressively getting worse. It seems the development team is busy adding "bells and whistles" such as unwanted and counter-intuitive home screen customizations while ignoring core functionality and outright dropping other desirable features. The current version of the client crashes more frequently than older versions (I still run 6.13 on most devices) and it no longer supports some of my media formats

The movie playing works great to all my devices (phones, computers, ps4). The music playing in the phone app gives me some trouble (search internet for an issue in which music stops playing after a while) The sync feature to the Plex phone app is awesome, but clunky (e.g. if i download e.g. a tv season, can't start playing first episode until whole season downloads)...

Plex is hot garbage and yet still somehow the best service available for media sharing. If you're not a computer science major then just stay away, you spend more time trying to figure out why your server randomly dropped remote access than you will do anything else. There's no tech support, just forums with hundreds of other frustrated users. If you're desperate for a media sharing platform then this is the one but know that it will eventually erode your sanity.

Broken since the latest update. As others have observed just spins and never loads content from the server. Clear cache & data required to fix. Sync to device is a shambles for more than a few items, if you think it will maintain a local copy of even the most modest music collection think again. Can't believe I thought paying for this was a good idea. Maybe rolling back and doing some proper testing? Lots of h4 unsupported format errors which vanish on second attempt.
