I am using this for personal notes and sections of text for some writing that I'm doing. I'm pretty pleased with it and what you get on the basic account is pretty good. I may need to upgrade at some point for the extra minutes but you do get more than that, like importing files and personal dictionary. That seems pretty good value, especially compared with alternatives. Recognition is pretty good but text still needs editing. That's alright for drafts. Thanks, Otter!

  2. Dewitt Tripp-avatar

I wanna give a 5. Cause I love the aesthetics of interface. I've used this once before. So the only issue I have with is the 100% accuracy. It hasn't been that for me, so theres some words I'll have to correct or fill in, which can be a hassle once I decide to do that. Is thos supposed to be 100% accurate? I done know and maybe there a way I can do something different to achieve that. Still a keeper.

  3. Paul Welsh-avatar

Not always accurate with identifying the speaker, but the text is very close. If the volume is high enough it works best. You'll appreciate the top keyword feature, the very responsive developer and the 600 free recording minutes (because if you need to record more than that you need to get out more). If they could nail the speaker better I would go to 5 stars.

  4. Raven Brown-avatar

I rave about this app all the time!! Its so useful and, the ability to modify, correct, or update the transcriptions whilst following along with the audio is truly a cut above other applications that claim to do similar work. In fact, I hope to purchase the additional features as soon possible so that I may relay my absolute fascination for this amazing app!

  5. Dominick DeSanto-avatar

    Dominick DeSanto

Great free app for getting ideas saved. The voice to text and voice recording/playback features allow for more comprehensive review of your notes. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because if there are pauses between words during the voice-to-text recording, then it automatically creates a new paragraph each time. This new line can't be copied with other lines. So if you plan to copy the text in order to paste it elsewhere, "select all" only refers to one individual paragraph of text.

  6. Jarron Nunez-avatar

Used in professional setting for meeting minutes. Those before me were upset they hadn't thought to use an app like this. It does well with converting voice to text in real time. There are some errors here and there but that's understandable. You can edit transcripts in-app. It also recognizes voices which has been a helpful feature. Best feature is the karaoke style animation that occurs when you play back a recording.

  7. Jack-avatar

This app is good, it nearly always gets what I'm saying right enough, although you cant talk too fast But its normally close enough you can figure it out anyway and having the play back of the recording attached to the text means it's easy to find what you were saying anyway Easily one of the best on the market considering its free

This app is extremely valuable for students, journalists, podcasters and pretty much everyone who ever has a meeting and wishes to record valuable information. Real time transcription for lecture and discourses is a real star feature. Easy editing and unlimited storage on the cloud helps me remember my notes for a long time! Good job Otter!

  9. Robert Cornelius-avatar

This app is vital for my functioning of everyday life because of Psychological and Physical limitations. It is essential for academic lectures and labs, Dr. appointments, legal consultations, and phone dictations (to name a few). I am not deaf, but I do have significant hearing loss where critical words in conversation are frequently lost. Otter's dictation isn't perfect, but is steadily improving with use. The addition of photos within the text body and synch with audio is irreplaceable!

  10. Ken Charles-avatar

Great service. So very accurately captures the spoken word and translates to text with few errors if the speaker enunciates clearly. I'm very pleased with Otter. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes to have a written record of lectures, conversations, videos, podcasts, etc.

  11. sandy lenahan-avatar

This is a great accessibility tool. Its not perfect but it has made my job transcribing meeting minutes so much easier. When I have my hands worked on in June this app will be even a bigger help with my job. I do have the premium app and use the folders & uploading the text and adding vocab unique to my field.

  12. Hector M. Ramirez-avatar

    Hector M. Ramirez

As a hard of hearing person this app is helping me survive during this COVID-19 pandemic. It's my #1 accessibility tool to help me stay connected with folks on the phone and the computer. And since so many public announcement and updates about coronavirus are not captioned or have ASL this is what I use to stay informed and safe.

  13. scott benson-avatar

I spent a lot of time researching transcription/dictation appsand wish I would have found otter soonerit's quick easy and cost-effective. I'm sure you can spend a lot more money and there's a point but I don't understand the diference. I've tried a lot of Trials and got the same out of this I did out of others but way cheaper

  14. Yoon Lee-avatar

Wow. Using this to dictate parts of my dissertation. Custom vocabulary feature really helps, especially since many of the terms I use are specifically to molecular biology. It definitely takes practicing organizing your thoughts for dictation, but that's not something specific to; Using any dictation software requires clear thinking for coherent speaking. is absolutely the best choice in terms of transcription quality and price.

  15. Kim Doss-Cortes-avatar

    Kim Doss-Cortes

I am a freelance journalist who uses Otter as part of my job. I used the free version until this month, but am not upset about paying the $10/mo to continue using it. It's a lifesaver for journalists. It even learned to recognize people I interview often and auto-tags them. I have tried other transcription services. None hold a candle to Otter. Thanks so much for the app!

  16. Merle Kaplan-avatar

So far, so good. This app is helping me transcribe and record phone interviews. It mis-hears a word or phrase here and there, but that's to be expected. And it beats, for my purposes, using an expensive transcription service.

  17. Dimitri Santana-avatar

    Dimitri Santana

This is an awesome sonication application! As a student it is important for me to take accurate notes and this app does the trick. Granted there are some words that do not come across properly from the professor but overall for generic lectures I use it all the time for taking notes.

  18. Lynda Wallis-avatar

This voice to text application works well for taking meeting minutes. It get some words wrong which is expected with the way different people talk. This has saved me time with all the meetings I have on a daily basis.

  19. Buckso Dhillon-avatar

I just love using this app to help with the writing of my book! I go through before sending it to my email, correcting all the misheard words which can be a few if you're not very articulate! But it's easier that way

  20. April McMillan-avatar

Almost perfect transcription of important notes and meetings. Easy to start recording with the widget. In fact I LOVE the widget because it makes Otter easier to use (& remember that I have the app on my phone so I can use it).

  21. Rory Gascoigne-avatar

A really good app that has proven hugely beneficial for my dyslexia. It really enables me to get my ideas down. There are a few things that could be tightened up, but such is the nature of AI at present.

  22. Simantini Chavan-avatar

    Simantini Chavan

Loved the way it has but then bit disappointed for not all the words have been captured properly and hence no proper sentences... Enough scope for improvement..wud have surely tried the premium product had it not been for such disappointment

  23. Nolan Dyck-avatar

Love the transcripts! I've suggested this app to several people for their voice notes. It's been a great game changer for us. We have transcribed many of our meetings, videos, as well as writing longer emails.

  24. Graham Longbottom-avatar

    Graham Longbottom

Excellent for staying on top of large quantities of meetings. Speaker differentiation is good. The more time you have to review and edit the notes/transcription the better it gets, but still valuable straight out of the box.

  25. Albert Castro-avatar

I have a 40 minute-long record and it only transcribed 5 minutes?! At the same time, why is my hour-long record shows just half its length when viewed through the web browser? Is this what I susbcribed for amounts to?!

  26. Barbara King-avatar

Usually pretty good, especially in normal meeting environment. One occasion, with music playing as I described a recipe I was preparing, was absolutely hilarious. Great that the audio is kept along with the transcription!

  27. Vicky Kuy-avatar

Its been really helpfull in transcribing my lecture recordings. Takes a bit of time and obviously a few little mistakes in the transcript but its helped to get the main points on paper which have helped with my exams.

  28. Miguel Guzman-avatar

Used to be extremely good for note taking for college courses. But I disappointed with how the introduce without any warning or reason to why they put a 40 minute transcript limit. I don't have enough money to afford premium.

  29. Ainura Iskakova-avatar

    Ainura Iskakova

Absolutely amazing application! Totally love it, thank you for this great app. I wish it was a bit cheaper though, but I understand that it is worth it, it's just a bit expensive for me.

  30. Ranjan Sharma-avatar

Sadly it can't record Microsoft teams meeting notes saying it's being recorded, for personal meet it works good. In post covid-19 we mostly will be using online meeting & this tool need to be able take notes from zoom, team, hangout Skype etc.

  31. LaVonne Patoir-avatar

Super convenient and great interface! I wish I was able to go back in and continue a recording (especially if I accidentally start it). Overall, I definitely didn't mind upgraded once I exceeded the initial 600 minutes.

  32. Katherine Leath-avatar

    Katherine Leath

Works great for what I use it for. The only draw back is there is a cap (600 minutes) each month on how much you can record. But I will never go over that.

  33. Peter Swakopf-avatar

Works well, however still misses words that are more technical in nature. Like that it still records everything and you can listen and correct the transcript later if needed.

  34. Neo Gold-avatar

Very useful with high quality vocabulary. This is perfect to pen your thoughts to words and the software is exceptional is recognising the words and converting it to text. Very useful.

  35. John Cole-avatar

Nice app for automatic transcription of audio, live or prerecorded. Allows for editing of transcripts plus keeps your position in the transcript and audio file synchronized during playback.

  36. Richard Pope-avatar

Wouldn't be surprised if I eventually upgrade this to five stars. so far it's been intuitive and very powerful which is a tough combination to achieve.

  37. Kim T-avatar

Been using it for a year-just awesome. I can use it to record and transcribe other speakers or online presentations informally or to dictate myself. It has good grammar on its own. It has time stamps of you need that. And you can train it to recognize speaker voices. They are very generous on how many free recordings you can transcribe. I mean really generous. No interfering ads. They deserve to be supported IMHO. You can share the transcripts with others also and they store them for you online.

  38. Michael Rodrigues-avatar

    Michael Rodrigues

First time user. Very good translations and audio synching. Has helped me through many company projects. Some words get lost or misconstrued but it isn't deal breaking

  39. Mike Goodwin-avatar

Easy to use app. Has done a good job so far. After 40 minutes of transcription you have to sign up for service $9.99 per month. I'm not complaining.

  40. Donya Catlett-avatar

This is a timesaver and an essential tool for any work load. I use this app everyday which allows me to save time and spend time on catapolting myself quicker to sucess.

  41. Lukas Chapple-avatar

Awesome it is really handy if you need to rember a bunch of things your teacher says and makes sure you don't forget any tasks to do. Very accurate too.

  42. MeMc-avatar

I needed a transctipt, this app is great, Otter completed the transcription first time through, the way hoped for with punctuation!!! minimal corrections. yes it is Very good. Update 04-26-2020 Still happy with OTTER, just gets better!

  43. ishmael chavez-avatar

Love it great app. Best ive found to record plus the transcript really helps in not having to hear the whole lecture whenever you want to find something.

  44. Rickelle Lopez-avatar

This app is just what I was looking for, its mostly accurate in transcribing but it still manages to mistake quite a few words but excellent otherwise.

  45. Coolirma Chan-avatar

Full of mistakes and ignores utterances, i have to do everything by hand and when i try to edit on app ot won't play pause as easily as on the website. Please improve that.

  46. Jose Arguedas-avatar

Best app for transcribing. Very accurate, easy to use, tries to pick up diff speaking persons. Set up folders etc. 600 min free per month, what more do you want.

  47. Kenneth German-avatar

It's more efficient and effective than i expected but I think they should increase the free basic minutes from 600 to does perfectly what a secretary would do...note-taking.

  48. Enrica Bonora-avatar

I used it to record and transcribe the interviews for my thesis. It works great and it made me save so much time!

  49. Ian Scott-avatar

Voice to text fairly accurate. Doesn't work too well in noisy environments.

  50. Julienne Mwebaze-avatar

    Julienne Mwebaze

Really amazing and time saving app. Some words are not quite accurately recorded but those csn be edited. Thank you. Well i dont know how possible it is to strengthen rhe word recognition because i still had to edit the written version for quite a while. But otherwise it was really, really impressive.

  51. Daniel Pais-avatar

Really works. For me was a surprise how easy, accurate and time saving this app works. I definitely recommend it.

  52. Jaegyong K-avatar

Great app. Absolutely love it! The premium plan is very affordable and generous. But the accuracy of the transcripts could use some work especially for audios that aren't so clear. An increase in speed would be great. It would also be convenient it was possible to directly download or save the transcript to your storage (phone/PC). The editor also needs improvement so that it can be operated more smoothly.

  53. ALEX N-avatar

Awesome App. The transcript is off sometimes but it helps a lot when i have to transcribe meetings and create meeting notes

  54. Wilson Engel-avatar

It's the best tool of its kind that I've found. Great tool but has had problems lately -- several conversations seem to get stuck in the processing queue every month since January, saying "waiting for wifi connection" with a cloud and an X icon. I have to wait til the 14th of the month and they start processing but still not caught up and there are 8 conversations to go. Without that it's just another voice recorder unfortunately.

  55. Dragon Cutie-avatar

It's really a good app but, this latest update of this app it's mainly paid, the time is also decreased now and so much more function are also reduces and make them as paid,i previously think that's the best app as it gives so much thing for every user to use it free atleast for 600 min but now this is all like other apps

  56. Hayley Macfarlane-avatar

    Hayley Macfarlane

I really love Otter. It's not hugely accurate but I know what I mean from what it's transcribed, and it allowed me to dictate on walks, which is great during lockdown!

  57. Tim M-avatar

Excellent app. Gets some things wrong but I mumble alot so what are you going to do? Wish the premium was a bit more affordable, or they offered a cheaper subscription for a more casual user that wanted less minutes but a simple export or share function. But they're a business and I'm not one of these idiots on ratings that beg businesses for free stuff. Lovely presentation, functionality and practicality and all in all just as good as I heard it was. Keep it up, team Otter.

  58. Rashawn Carter - Kamau-avatar

    Rashawn Carter - Kamau

I love this ap! Now it doesn't translate audio to text 100%. Yet, it does at least 95%. As long as words are pronounced properly. I love that I can email a conversation from my phone. Open the files on my lap top. Download and save the transcripts to my computer. I listen to a number of webinars and podcast. When a schedule to participate in a zoom conference in my calendar, it gives me a reminder and is ready to record. This helps me with my note taking. I also use it as a voice memo.

  59. Jemma Healey-avatar

The app is NOT as described! Basic version is described as having 600 minutes a month. However they without any notice have introduced a 40 minute limit on conversations, and require you to upgrade to premium to extend this. This was not the case last month where you could use the 600 minutes in any way you wanted and some conversations transcribed over an hour. There was no alert that Otter had changed this which has massively messed up a transcript I have recorded which is 61 minutes in length

  60. zero to 1-avatar

i am so satisfied with this app tbh couldn't wait to rate it. it's a game changer for me. and they even gave sufficient and fair basic plan for free. i really appreciate your effort. and i really wish i could buy the premium pack but unfortunately in my country we don't have access to PayPal or something like that. but anyways thanks a bunch

  61. Lannie Schafroth-avatar

    Lannie Schafroth

Does exactly what I need. Export audio and text is perfect. Just need better transcribing accuracy. I know that's always a challenge. I recently provided an update and changed my review to 2 stars. The developer contacted me and I have discovered I was wrong in my assessment. Great and fast support. I did suggest they fix the txt export to use the time stamp of the audio file. Changing to a 5 star.

  62. Grapho Analysis-avatar

    Grapho Analysis

Because I am not only using otter to do transcriptions of my own voice notes, the transcriptions are sometimes a bit off, but on the whole, it is amazing and I am very pleased with it. Even in a crowded room with the sound coming from very inadequate overhead speakers, the transcriptions are very good and I am very satisfied. I am very impressed with the function where you also have the recording available so you can correct inaccuracies. I love otter and can truly recommend it.

  63. Jennifer Garrett Richmond-avatar

    Jennifer Garrett Richmond

Great app! Super helpful for transcribing my devotions, practicing timing, and sharing documents.

  64. Melanie Heiserman-avatar

    Melanie Heiserman

I use this app all the time for my business. I talk through the day, reflect and build my next day through this app. I love it because it catches when I'm pausing and makes an indent in the paragraph, so I know where I left off. Also, the grammar is phenomenal. I don't have to say, "space" or "period". It does it automatically. Very impressive.

  65. G G-avatar

The best voice recognition but I refused pay tax to use software. The subscription model of software charging is nothing more than just another tax except by a private corporation which won't use it for the common good. I might pay $25 a year to use this cuz it has excellent voice recognition but I'm not going to pay $250 a year. Ridiculous. The developers say it is cheaper than competitors. Doesn't change my view that I won't pay for software as an annual hefty 'tax'.

  66. Jaco Bolle-avatar

Huge time saver. As an adult with learning disabilities, this app is making school possible. When I forget something the prof says, I can go to my transcript and read it. Update: You can even use your laptop to record (because of better microphone) and take pictures and make highlights or comments from your phone. Great for adding pictures of slides to the recording.

  67. Alan Acevedo-avatar

The dictation is not always perfect, nor is the multi-speaker recognition but Otter makes it EASY to correct if you need to. Having the conversation written makes it EASY to review longer recordings and of course the audio as well adds clarity. The widget makes it EASY to take notes at a moment's notice. It's a must try for anyone who needs to be able to take quality notes quickly.

  68. Spencer Scruggs-avatar

    Spencer Scruggs

I absolutely adore this app. It's been really helpful for getting transcripts that I can easily use to make sure my videos on my YouTube channel are captioned appropriately. It's super easy to use and so intuitive. I cannot recommend the free version and I cannot recommend even more the paid version.

  69. Andrew H-avatar

It attributes Multiple speakers even when there is only one. It at times has difficulty with words and short phrases especially when not spoken in an abnormal slower pace with clear enunciation. ultimately, the most accurate transcription tool I've found. dragon and others are supposedly better but when I tried them they were either too inaccurate or to cumbersome to be of use. I'd be willing to pay for the app if it was reasonably priced. Until then I'll utilize the free version.

  70. Demi P-avatar

Excellent for note taking! Makes life so much easier. Why didn't I think of using this sooner!

  71. John Culatto-avatar

Pretty amazing app. Best voice recognition out there for meetings and interviews, even on the free package. Makes reporting much easier, although sometimes could learn more from it's mistakes. Contextual and geographical analysis would take it to the next level though some of the attempts at transcription make you giggle.

  72. Tristan Jones-avatar

I like it a lot. I am an English tutor who uses it for checking student's speech and sharing recordings/transcripts with them. Recently, however, I've noticed that many of my recordings in app are not fully transcribed ie. My recording shows 01:00 but the transcript is only 00:15. Really wish you could re-transcribe without exporting then importing the audio. Hope it improves. 👍

  73. JR Carver-avatar

Awesome recording and transcription service. Allows 10hrs per month free. You can record and transcribe live or upload files. Transcription is pretty good, though not perfect, but enough to know where to select to play from a certain location and you can edit the transcription yourself. Recognizes different speakers voices. You can export audio, transcription or several other options. Great app. I don't even use any other recorders or transcribers anymore.

  74. Yowe Kemos-avatar

Absolutely amazing app that transcribes videos in seconds. I didn't believe it would work this good. I have been looking for a perfect software to translate videos to texts and I just found it! Requires a little editing afterwards but hey, 99.5% of the workload is done for you. Well done to the developers of this app.

  75. Andres Munoz-avatar

Great tool to replay meeting discussions and transcribing them. Can be edited and exported.

It has some good points. Every time the speaker pauses it creates a So there's a long long long string of sentences that have to be made into a paragraph. So many words are misunderstood and need to be re transcribed. I'm not sure it would be faster just type it out on a recording.

Helpful , I am impressed hopefully you will consider to lower the price of resubsciption. My only complaint would be the price for a year is costly Rs 700/month. Lower the price

Taking it for a test drive right now. Extremely impressed, just a shame on the cost for premium. A mid tier option would be perfect.

Does what it says on the tin, saves me a ton of time otherwise wasted in transcribing interviews. Far from perfect in its transcripts, but surprisingly good considering how many of mine involve people using specialist language, recorded in noisy environments. Features like the ability to automatically recognize different speakers by their voices are much appreciated and frankly amazing.

Love the app as it helps me transcribing the contents of various types of meetings, webinars, classes. There is a small percentage of terminologies missed out by the AI, but for a sound recording and transcribing app like Otter, it is nearly 99% perffect. It is also easy to share the transcription via email as a TXT file like in my case of a free user. It also helps transcribing audio files uploaded from your personal devices. Useful for those recording in classes with other apps and transcribing with Otter if the available time quota is run out. Highly recommended!

Disclaimer: this is the first voice transriber app I've used. Giving 5 stars because after 1 month of use the app is put together really well. Otter has done everything as advertised without glitching or stuffing up. I needed a voice transcriber and it goes to work immediately. It's not 100% all the time at discriminating certain words, but I'm only using this for non-commerical means so I'm happy. Keep it up!

Honestly, I feel very let down by the decision to remove import. I don't think it's a good practice, it undermines the trust (Evernote backlash comes to mind).I get that you want to convert more users to pay - but a proper freemium model (that users expect) is that you add paid features on top of the basic experience to attract sales, not force it by cutting away more and more of the basic experience.Personally this is a 180° for me( I've used just like 2-5% mins a month, but needed import :c

So far it's been the best transcription software by far. Totally recommendable, especially if you are a super busy student with not much time, nor experience and skills in transcribing. I know, it is a great skill in itself, but I don't bake my bread nor make cheese myself either...

This product has been useful thus far. First, when the professor is going at a faster pace than usual at giving a lecture or review I just record what I don't catch while writing notes. Otter is also great for paying attention to the lecture instead of needing to vigorously right every single lecture notes. Lastly, is helpful for those are auditory and visual learners. I would have a given it five stars but occasional errors occur such telling me that a recording is processing or not saved.

I've been using Otter close to 6 months now and it was great up until the free 600 minutes per month became a sham. You're now only allowed just 3 files and that's it or you purchase their subscription. So right now I think it's a rip off. The worst part is you can see ypur free minutes but ypu can't use it. So please its not free anymore.

I got Otter to transcribe a recording for the Between the Jigs Podcast, and it did very well! It was a bit flummoxed with the accents of the speakers (Newfoundland and West Kerry, Ireland), but I will use it again, for sure. Thanks!

Edit- great so far. pretty accurate. Actually love this app now it has got a better understanding of my accent. Have recommended it to a lot of people. Love watching people watch the app at work. People want to know what it is after seeing it work. Still a few strange words from time to time but acceptable.

I have found this extremely useful for creating a transcript of interviews both over the phone and in person. It is fairly accurate and it is easy to make correcting since you can listing along to your recording with the transcript. I am grateful that I found this app!

Incredible app. Accurate transcription for most accents. Great time saver.

A real fan! Writing made finger could never keep up with my thoughts. What a game changer. Needs a bit more refinement to accurately translate my words to text. However, now that I don't spend so much time typing, I can actually proof read.

Works well, fairly accurate and does surprisingly well with a range of accents. Sometimes it gets it completely wrong but the results can be hilarious, so I guess that makes up for it to a degree.

  94. ABHIJIT TOPPO-avatar

Each of the said word is not converted into text, 100 percent accuracy still supposed to be achieved. However so far 60 to 70 percent of accuracy seems to have been achieved. Works better than most of the other applications present in the play store.

Fantastic! Really amazed at how well the audio gets transcripted.

  96. Naoma Staley-avatar

I can hardly believe how well Otter works, and most of the app is available for free!? Incredible. My favorite features are the transcription, the time stamps, and the summary of most used terms at the top after the document is processed.

Good app to use to record meetings and it transcibes for you. You can audios and it can still do the same function. The outcome is pretty good as long as audio quality is good. It fails to transcribe other Languages other than English. Overall I'm happy

Program is extremely useful especially during intensive trainings and all of the sort. I recommend using this software, listening and taking notes by the AI is amazing! The difficulty is from prounciation, thus, a speaker must be a proficient English speaker
