    Demitri Morgan

Practically useless for basic point to point navigation. This app has trouble parsing street addresses. Instead of locking in a destination, you get search results for the nearest matches for the street name when you enter an address. So, in essence, there is no way to just enter an address and navigate to it. The lack of granularity is completely baffling and means this app cannot effectively be used as a substitute for Google Maps.

osmand+ - offline travel maps & navigation v3.4.7 Navigation is getting worse with every new version, previously it took 5-10 seconds to create a route for 600 km, nowadays it takes several minutes on much powerful hardware. Navigation for walking routes treats that I'm still driving in several countries and warns about pedestrian crosswalks or speed limit, I'm not Usain Bolt to overspeed 50 km/h. Competitors leverage the same maps and their offline navigation engine works a way better, please, resolve performance issues asap.

  3. Piers Spencer-avatar

osmand+ - offline travel maps & navigation v3.4.3 Excellent map for finding footpaths, bridleways etc. Try different layouts until you find which is best for your needs. Download the maps you need. I've used it in various countries around the world and thoroughly recommend it.

osmand+ offline travel maps & navigation v3.4.0 Posting my feedback for the latest update here, since there no other option to do so. In the latest update, map markers cannot be selected anymore by long pressing. Hence the only way to remove a marker is through the menu; the "marker passed" button and similar functions cannot be reached anymore.

  5. Ulf Persson-avatar

    Ulf Persson

osmand — offline travel maps & navigation apk It works but the maps take up a lot of space compared to some alternatives. Map manager is very good. It does get confused in thight spots so you easily get to drive around.

  6. Caleb Stouter-avatar

    Caleb Stouter

This app is indispensable when you're traveling somewhere without a reliable cell phone signal! I actually used it to navigate for my entire honeymoon in Iceland with no cell service at all.

  7. Tiago Fernandes-avatar

When upgrading to latest version, it hangs at 95% of download. Installs in other devices but on my Galaxy tab 5e. Any idea of any this is happening?

Keeps improving, thank you for maturing app and map project!

  17. John Alot-avatar

    John Alot

The best offline maps and navigation available. This app is constantly being improved, the basic system is free, and the subscription is extremely reasonable. It shows elevation, trails, water and points of interest, with an optional wikipedia overlay. I've been using it for probably a decade now and have been both happy and frustrated by it depending on the latest improvement. They finally got it nearly right, only it will completely drain your fully charged Android S10 battery in 1 hour. :(

  18. John Sones-avatar

    John Sones

Complex confusing interface. I travel alot and map markers used to plan places to see, from waterfalls to resturants. Desire easy way delete when make mistake or no longer needed. Do NOT want markers deleted from map, even on hike, when select "marker passed". Want simple method of stopping vector-distance/direction from cluttering map. Want option to leave marker on map when press "mark passed" ( suggest add keep marker when passed function to markers "appearance on map menu".

  19. Troy Mostowy-avatar

    Troy Mostowy

From a Canadian perspective, entering addresses was difficult because the address look-up is a different order than entering a mailing address. Once I figured out how to successfully enter an address everytime, the application became my favourite map application!

  20. Adrian Silea-avatar

    Adrian Silea

This navigation software has steadily grown to become very detailed, flexible and reliable. The open source maps are accurate and detailed to the individual tree and bush, while the TTS voice guidance is fluent enough that you don't miss anything. Offline navigation, driving profiles, route options, map layers and much more. 👍

  21. Daniel Provorse-avatar

    Daniel Provorse

This app take a lot of learning to use proficiently. It works great for it's purpose but as far as I know it's route options and navigation work but not like other live traffic flow navigation apps. Been a while since I used it though so maybe those features exist now. All in all its a very powerful app and I've appreciated having it many times. This is my failsafe navigation app.

  22. Myutube Account-avatar

    Myutube Account

Cannot install on two devices, even though the developer states you can. Cannot get a refund within 2 hours of purchase, as stated by Google. A lot fake error messages when trying to install or get a refund. UPDATE:. I am using the same account. The issue is with Google. They have to fix their "issue".

Great open source app with no trackers

  25. CoachKen-avatar

Good for country driving but can't find street address.

  26. Nathan Lutterman-avatar

    Nathan Lutterman

It's a great application, and works better than Google Maps for navigation, to be honest. The OpenStreetMap data is somewhat incomplete in my area so, so there are hiccups but that's not a fault of the app - the data just isn't there. That's fixed with contributions by users like us.

  27. Rob van de Werken-avatar

    Rob van de Werken

Have been using it for years, especially when going abroad. Love all the features. Like all navigation systems, it has some quirks with routing (most likely map related). But those are consistent and they are no issues, especially once used to them.

  28. nrlonsdale-avatar

Single most best app I have ever purchased. In fact. The only app I have ever purchased. The only app I have ever rated. The only app I have ever loved. Navigated me from London to Athens on a bike without internet, through back lanes of Laos and found the best beaches on Tonga. Has gotten me out of the pooper more than a few times. All hail OSM

  29. Kin H Chan-avatar

    Kin H Chan

High quality map images; updates and improvements all the time; easy to use; full of useful features. Best among all similar products I have used. Highly recommended as it remains the best map app to me. I maintain my verdict since my last review.

  30. Mohammad Hassan-avatar

    Mohammad Hassan

I loved this app it's amazing but there are problems with navigation it's not smooth as other app and there are problems with navigation voice guide. Its guide me to another way that explaned in map and that in arabic voice guide. And i wonder if you can add 3d mode.

  31. Mayank Malviya-avatar

    Mayank Malviya

Ok I did that but now I have to download all the map data again several Gb all manually. App is not getting updated. It fails again and again. Wrote multiple times not response. In fact it downloaded more 74Mb when it is only 62Mb tells alot about the bug they have not fixed yet.

  32. Christopher Slack-avatar

    Christopher Slack

As a contributer to Open Street Maps I wanted an app that would make use of it rather than the locked down proprietary ones. This was good when I first started using it and it gets better all the time.

  33. Krištof Koman-avatar

    Krištof Koman

Offline navigation app based on Open street map cartography with plenty customization options and possibility to contribute to Open street map ecosystem directly within app. A little slow real time map refreshing during navigation, but one can get used to it.

  34. Julian Dühnen-avatar

    Julian Dühnen

Before I didn't approve of the lack of navigation options and map details, but it has now been updated with bike and public navigation, searching addresses is now much easier, and the app still performs great! Best offline maps app I've seen so far!

  35. Daniel Meis-avatar

    Daniel Meis

My go-to app for navigation, particularly because it's offline, and also because the map data is open-source. The major weak spot is that the US address lookup is mostly brain-dead. Also, the navigation algorithm doesn't understand US freeway exits. The voice instruction should be "take exit 58", not "turn slightly right". If/when these are fixed, I give it all 5 stars.

  36. Ray Stocker-avatar

    Ray Stocker

Great app. I'm able to to use my Garmin for navigating bike rides. I use the app offline for giving me my position relative to my destination. Very handy for when the legs are hurting!

  37. Peter Pollard-avatar

    Peter Pollard

Brilliant product! Lots of good, professional work has gone into it. We use it a lot for our walks (forests and fields). However, I have to block your use of the poneytelecom.eu server in France because of criminal behaviour. So I won't be using your 'Live' updates. Osmand can be a useful tool for bad guys. So why do you use poneytelecom. eu?

  38. Surya Hitam-avatar

    Surya Hitam

I use this app a lot. The offline maps are very detailed. The navigation works fine. It is well worth paying for.

  39. Jim Vincent-avatar

    Jim Vincent

I have used it a few times on my current bicycling trip. So far, it has met my expectations, & has worked very well! Keep it that way, & i will stay happy!

  40. Jerod Tufte-avatar

    Jerod Tufte

    Highly functional offline maps

  41. Adam Bower-avatar

    Adam Bower

Phenomenal app. Has a lot of options, which can be overwhelming, but once you get it sorted, having the custom options are amazing.

  42. Nick Hill-avatar

    Nick Hill

5 stars is back! not sure when screen lock control using the power button was re-introduced but it is back and i am so happy. the settings to control it could do with a little bit better description of what they mean and how they work, but that's a minor point. now i can just use one phone when i go cycling ;-)

  43. Martijn Lievaart-avatar

    Martijn Lievaart

Slightly confusing interface like all geo apps have but actually one of the best out there. Nice plugin system. Which geo app you like is very personal, but be sure to give this one a try.

  44. Frits-avatar

Been using this app for navigation for years. It has improved a lot over the years. In my opinion, room for improvement would be the search function and routing, sometimes it creates weird detours. Besides that it's excellent!

  45. Oliver Schneider-avatar

    Oliver Schneider

Perfect app. The only thing I'd prefer would be better instructions on how to update "offline". Way to go.

  46. Daniel Bucher-avatar

    Daniel Bucher

Only changes I'd like to see is the options for imperial units on the topo lines, and the option to use mgrs/usng gps coordinates. Other than those things, this app is perfect.

  47. Tatiana Andreeva-avatar

    Tatiana Andreeva

Thank you for this tool! I like it a lot and have been using for years. After the recent update, the voice guidance disappeared. Please advice what settings should be changed to get it back. I was using English instructions, so there should not be anything specific about the language.

  48. George Tasker-avatar

    George Tasker

The experience is generally really good but about every four or five times when the phone locks up the application database gets corrupted and has to be deleted and downloaded again. If I was able to have the database remain functional between phone lock ups I would be giving it 5 stars

  49. Anatoly Vizitiu-avatar

    Anatoly Vizitiu

DO NOT BUY if you live in USA. Navigation fails to start properly. No guidance audio or visual. Inaccurate tracking, as crow flies. Takes hours to calculate a route. By the time it calculates I reach destination. Galaxy Note 10 plus 5g

  50. Me Me-avatar

Works great for importing tracks created from other programs on PC. I use it on phone when traveling on motorcycle and want to follow my custom route.

  51. Ofer Milstein-avatar

Useful app. Sometimes struggles to connect with GPS satellites, or looses signals, while other apps have no issue. Also, the search as cumbersome.

  52. David O-avatar

    David O

Overall love the app but 1 missing feature gets it 4 stars. When following a GPX route, it announces every little turn, even just bends in the road. It is very annoying and can only be stopped by turning off the voice alerts completely. Hopefully this problem will be resolved soon.

  53. Mud Thang-avatar

    Mud Thang

So far, so good! Hoping voice prompts will be sufficient through ear-piece on a motorcycle. Thank you OSM+ 🐸

  54. Walnut Dell-avatar

    Walnut Dell

My favourite app for walking and driving. Excellent in every way. Only drawbacks are it takes a bit of use to get used to it and doesn't offer OS maps as an option (viewranger is the app to use if OS is a priority). Only improvement I can think of would be a warning sound when phone looses GPS signal.

  55. J Roger-avatar

    J Roger

Use this app all the time. Great when travelling - can always see your location on the map via GPS (eg when on a local bus).

  56. Greg Verrall-avatar

    Greg Verrall

I've used this app for years to navigate in places where cell phone reception isn't available. Recommended it to my brother who was going on a multi day hike. He and his friend lost the trail and osm helped him navigate back to their car. Might have saved his life.

  57. Obywatel Kane-avatar

    Obywatel Kane

Well I HATE, literally HATE the idea, that when I want to download maps for a whole county/continent I have to do it ONE region at a time! PLEASE ADD AN OPTION TO DOWNLOAD MULTIPLE REGIONS WITH ALL STUFF INCLUDED! (Shading, terrain car map etc. WHEN ONE HAS BOUGHT THEM) Why? Doing 50 US states one by one, selecting available options (also one by one) is totally POINTLESS! Holding longer a country or continent should pop up an: "DOWNLOAD ALL AVAILABLE MAPS AND ITEMS" option! If you change it I will give you 5 *

  58. Cosmin Necula-avatar

I am currently using OsmAnd on my motorcycle trip through France. It has worked flawlessly and I thank the developers for their amazing work.

Great app with tons of options. I use it a lot while hiking or cycling. Also interesting on your vacation: no data use necessary when using this app. Highly recommended (at least the android version).

  61. Irskov Kazzimirski-avatar

    Irskov Kazzimirski

Very good and highly costumizable map app. Not always super easy to find what you need, but if you look a bit you can do so much with it and adapt it perfectly to your needs.

Good mapping, hard to erase points if you tap by mistake.. pointing at something. should an have undo ? Only complaint!

  63. Alberto Moreno-avatar

After paying for the app, it demands a subscription to use some of the features.

The app changed the way I travel. It just needs a powerful phone to work at full capacity without delays

Takes a while to understand this excellent app but it is worth it. I use it all the time on multiple devices for offline hikes. Great work team!

  66. Darren Biggs-avatar

This OSM app is actually better than the web application. Do not use it too much for directions but use it for reference. Especially helpful if you do not have cell service you can download maps.

  67. Gunther Wilke-avatar

    Gunther Wilke

Great offline Maps. You can download most of the world and have it stored in an efficient vector form. The UI needs some getting used to.

It may not be as good at directions as Google Maps the OSM maps cover way more than just driving, transit, and waking. If you find the maps aren't accurate you should update them in OpenStreetMaps and not rate this app poorly ad it only consumes the OSM maps. OsmAnd itself is great. All sorts of ways to customize it to the way you want, layers, details, navigation, it is all here. Spend some time to customize it. Great for driving, hiking, all sorts of usage with great world maps.

Could be five stars. But, I'm giving it four, only because it does not have a 3D view option for navigation on roads. Considering that there are plenty of other navigation apps that have 3D as an option, I'm surprised that this isn't even available. I do love how totally customizable it is. You can choose as many options as you would like to make it work for you. I also love the fact that it uses open maps.

  148. Mike Griggs-avatar

    Mike Griggs

I've used this app for for 8-years. Hiking and mountaineering and I'm not over dramatising to say that it has seen my friends and I, safely off some dodgy Summits in the clouds. I wouldn't go up into the mountains without it. This review is for the older version I haven't updated it this year 2020 in case it's not as good as the one I've got!! When we are finally rid of covid-19 I shall be going to the Atlas mountains in North Africa and osm will be coming!... Mike

Lots of features and customisation options plus the ability to contribute back to OSM from with the map. I use it primarily for cycling in Berlin and Brandenburg the navigation is often questionable decisions and seems to direct me into sand at least once every tour despite me telling it not to although that is mostly a data problem not the apps fault. It could be more battery friendly and certainly have a less confusing UI but this app is delightfully nerdy so I stick with it.

Nothing is as good as Google Maps, but it's the best alternative I knew. They improving location search sequentetly. Local calculations are always slower. The improved a lot for cycling as well. I still need the display for Navigation - voice is not enough. Sometimes speed is not recognized well for announcements.
