Nostalgia IS NOT an emulator.

Nostalgia is an emulator frontend. It is a single menu to display all of your retro games and launch them directly to your favorite android emulators behind the scenes.

Do you want a clean frontend app to unify all of your android emulators. One that shows all of your different games with cover art and descriptions instead of just titles? Nostalgia is your answer.

Nostalgia is best experienced with a controller.

Tested controllers: Ouya, Wireless Xbox 360, Nyko, Moga, Wired PS3, Shield. Others may work but haven't been verified.

About the in-app purchase:

• There is only one in-app purchase in Nostalgia to unlock the full version permanently

• I will NEVER charge for additional features of Nostalgia on Google Play. Ever.

What is demo mode?

The ONLY limitation in demo mode is that you can only select one game console to launch an emulator for. You can still use all the other features and fully populate all of the menus for any system you have so you can see what it will look like.

What is Nostalgia?

Nostalgia is a user interface compatible with many android emulators. Install the emulators and then use Nostalgia's configuration menu to set the emulator to use and the game directory. Once you have set those fields, Nostalgia can go out and fetch the best shot at the cover art and descriptions for the games. Once those steps are done you will have a fancy new menu for each of your emulated systems with cover art and all. You can see the complete list of compatible emulators below.

Some of the Features:

• Automated Cover and metadata fetching

• System and game level emulator selection

• Multi-platform game searching

Worked for one day and now either crashes or will not launch any game. Emulators do fine on their own. Built in emulators of this app don't even work. Nvidia shield user

I'm so disappointed in this front-end. :-( I tried the trial version with the Atari 2600 emulator (lr-stella), and it mostly worked, so I paid for the full version, and I can not get ANY other emulators to work with it. I tried lr-fceumm (the NES emulator I use with RetroPie), and the gamepad is completely unresponsive; none of the buttons work in-game. Pressing R1 gets me to the RetroArch menu, which looks *completely* different from the RetroArch menu I get if I run RetroArch standalone, as if it is a different version, but nothing else works. MAME (lr-mame2003) I can't get working at all; selecting a game simply causes the screen to go blank for a moment, then I'm right back to Nostalgia. Same thing with FB Alpha (lr-fbalpha). Same thing with SNES (lr-snes9x2010). I gave up after those four. Nostalgia doesn't trap and display errors from the emulator, it just dumps me back at the game menu, so it's impossible to troubleshoot. These are the same emulators I use with RetroPie, so I know my ROMs are fine. I can start RetroArch independent of Nostalgia and games work fine, so this seems to just be an issue with Nostalgia, not the emulators.

Easy to use, exactly is what it says it is, a front end. One of the best there is. Only negative is, I wish there were more configuration, user editing available (such as adding systems/consoles that aren’t on the list adding emulators that aren’t on the list & editing rom info that imported or failed to import.) Also a sort/list all roms on all systems function would be nice.

When i was about 12 years old, i was lucky. I had all the game consoles, but i wanted a unified system. "One to rule them all". Finally that is here. This frontend is amazing, seamless transitions and easy to learn game integration. Once you get it setup its a dream to use.

This is a great emulator frontend. I've been using it since the Ouya, and now that I've migrated to the Shield I'm so pleased to see it's still around. One important element that a lot of users are likely missing is the use of a controller. It doesn't work that well without a physical controller to navigate and play with. Some see that as an issue, but as I'm primarily playing on my Shield (and also using my old Ouya controllers, which work just the same as they did before on the Shield). It doesn't take too much work to set up (unlike RetroArch, which is powerful, but a nightmare to navigate and operate). You can see the cover art for the games, which is pleasant and a nice little polish for when you're playing games with friends and they spot the cover of some game they haven't played in 15 or 20 years. Quick Edit: For those looking for a more straightforward and mobile friendly app, look at ClassicBoy. It doesn't offer a ton of systems, but it does have some pretty nice touch controls and lots of setting options for the user who wants to bother.

  31. Craig Corner-avatar

    Craig Corner

Like it. It needs a little polishing in some places. It would be nice to have the game list not just a list of box art, but maybe a list with art plus descriptions either side of the list, only showing box art if available. The blank box art is pretty ugly.

I don't get this app. It was not simple to fetch data for your ROMs due to the weird interface that uses swipes! Anyways, the deal breaker for me is that this frontend doesn't use my retroarch's setting. That was so confusing! Why would this app over ride my own settings from this frontend. Pls advise. Update: I had to copy over my original retroarch config file to get my setting into SNES directory. Why can't the app just use the original config file from retroarch instead of Nostalgia making its own. I hope you guys fix this because this was a bad impression of the app. Other than that, I'm liking the rest.

Pretty, and nicely configurable. This was a great app on Ouya and I'm pleased to say it's just as great now. The only thing I would like is the ability to put metadata where I want, otherwise it's the best front end IMHO.

  34. Sub Skrilla-avatar

    Sub Skrilla

This game browser is fantastic. Working great on my GPD XD. Really pleased. I was recommended to try arclauncher on my device but this app yielded much better matches on artwork for my roms and looks very tidy. A few suggestions for the dev.. I would love to be able to set this as the launcher on my device instead of opening this app on my current launcher, could that be possible? Would be great to be able to customize icons for apps in the android section and also remove the shading behind those apps. Thanks again, highly recommend and wish I found this before I manually set up a gazillion rom shortcuts on halauncher

Couldn't even get started because the screen align thing didn't move when I dragged it, instead it locked off centre and I couldn't see the button to proceed on the next screen. Reinstalling doesn't even bring up the alignment thing again. If the UI is this poor right away then I don't want to see what the rest of this thing is like.

Sorry to rate it low but I just wanted to get your attention. Since the updates it's been impossible to map my buttons on my moga to your app. The defaults don't recognize my L2 button, so I remapped them through the settings. And even though I mapped them correctly, now my dpad and analogs don't work, so I can't use the app to select anything. Bummer, because I prefer this over gamesome and I paid for this one. So until this is fixed I must use gamesome. But I know you're good devs so you'll fix it as long as you know there's an issue. I'll be checking for updates. Thanks

I really like the look of the app, few pics and icons don't match up in the settings but that's not a big deal. One thing I was bummed about is that there is no support for mupen64plus fz, ae is still good but I've had better luck with the n64 USB adapter, adding texture packs and much less crashing with fz. Another thing I wish we could do is specify where you want all the cover art downloaded. I'm hoping there is an update happening in the next few months, this app has the potential to be extraordinary.

Edited- Thank you ZamaStyle for the fast response and useful info to try to correct my problems. I think this is a nice app but the menu items are a bit off with what the text says. The following trouble I will figure out thanks to ZamaStyle feedback and suggestion. Also it simply does not work well with my shield controller and retroarch because it seems to map the right trigger and right bumper to toggle into retroarch. I can't seem to remap buttons in Nostalgia and retroarch does not seems to be the culprit as far as I can tell. Seems to work fine with other emulators so perhaps the button mapping problems lies solely with retroarch but the problem only occurs if Nostalgia launches retroarch.

...but seems to be broken on my nVidia Shield TV. Grabs metadata for my games OK, but when I try to start a game, the screen flickers and nothing else happens. Not sure if this is a known issue or not. I can start the games just fine if I run retroarch manually. Update: looks like having ROMs in 7z is a no-no. It's working great now. Devs are also very responsive. Give these guys your money.

  92. Adam Jewell-avatar

The only intuitive front end that can be set up to be used by other people without them having to know how - just a nice graphical system browser and a nice graphical game browser. Goes perfectly with the .EMU series of emulators by Robert Broglia as they also have simple menus (which can be mostly hidden after you're done setting it up for the first time) and can be configured to exit back to Nostalgia by binding a button (I use L2 on a 360 controller) Great job guys, I know of no better emulation set up including emulationstation on a raspberry pi. That allows for too much (post initial) configuration to the point that only the person that initially set it up can use it with any ease or without the danger of them accidentally messing it up.
