The faithful adaptation of the board game: Mr. Jack Pocket! The famous and thrilling 2-player cat-and-mouse game.

The Pocket version tweaks the rules for shorter, more intense games.

Whitechapel, 1888. Despite the police’s best efforts, Jack is still on the loose. The famous Sherlock Holmes is tasked with ending the crime spree of this maniac. But Jack has a few tricks up his sleeves and disguised himself as one of the detectives on the crime scene! It is up to Sherlock to unmask the madman; but he must hurry, or Jack will vanish into the night…

Each player endorses one role: Sherlock or Jack.

Sherlock's goal is to clear every other investigator until there is only one left: the one Jack is impersonating. In order to achieve this, he will need to have line of sight over his fellow detectives; each night Jack will have to tell if he is currently visible or not, allowing Sherlock to eliminate suspects. On the opposing side, Jack's goal is only to delay the investigation until dawn, when he can escape. Each night, both players will be able to reshape the board in order to shed a dim light on the streets of the city, or to remain hidden in the shadows...

Play against an adjustable AI to sharpen your mind or test your cunning against players from all around the world!

To sum up, the game features:

• The universe of Whitechapel inspired from the original board game, digitally modernized

• A tactical gameplay for tensed games

• A solo offline mode and an online mode

This looks like it could be an amazing game but please, please, please fix the online dual mode. Was unable to play an online game as the app would randomly kick either me or the other player out of the game at the start. I will reconsider my rating if you can fix this.

  2. Kevin Bolt-avatar

    Kevin Bolt

review If the developer is reading, I'm thoroughly perplexed as to how to play in Duel mode with a friend on the same device. As far as I can tell, a critical aspect of this game is that the player who is Jack knows the suspect card they are playing as. Yet in Duel mode I can find no way at all for the player who is Jack to find out which suspect they are. The Duel mode game just goes straight in to the first turn. There doesn't seem to be anything I can see to click on for Jack to see who they are.

rules The game itself is fine. I am a boardgame fan and wanted to try this for a while. The app is ok but the AI cheats big time. When the computer is the detective it makes decisions they only make sense if you know who is Jack. Takes the fun out of it.

  4. Thomas Clancy-avatar

vs mr jack Unplayable on Android TV or box. Game launches, then notification screen pops to let one know about online play, Asmodee Digital account, and tutorial with no way to by-pass it. Works fine on Note 9. For the purests, this plays nothing like the box game.

  5. Willa Dawne-avatar

    Willa Dawne

how to play I have the game in the box and on my phones. I've been playing it on my phones for two years -- Samsung Galaxy S5 & S8+ -- with no issues in single player or duel mode. Never has crashed or had any glitches/bugs/etc.

A fun way to pass the time. You basically have a tile grid in which other characters can "look" down depending on whether the view is open or not. Each tile has a person on it. If your character does not see a person that is Jack, they are flipped over. If they see Jack in their line of site, all people in that line of site are kept face up. The idea is to narrow down the search until you only see Jack. In the mean time, the AI tries to frustrate your search through certain actions. It is a lot of fun and a great way to pass time. The AI is also challenging. As opposed to other reviewers, I have never encountered any problems.

  20. Anna Ziółkowska-avatar

    Anna Ziółkowska

I played this boardgame years ago so I remembered rules a bit but still I went through this app's tutorial. It was the worst game tutorial I have ever seen even if rules are really simple. If you want to purchase the game, read the rulebook first. Also I think that "speeding up animations" option doesn't spead up the tokens drawing enough. Game takes much longer than it should because of all those rotating tokens and flying stuff. This is frustrating experience. Game itself is great, app not so much.

  21. Joseph Hendrix-avatar

    Joseph Hendrix

This is frustrating. The computer uses move cards but then does not move the character. I'm not able to do this!

Update 4th Jan 2018: Game still freezes on AI. Also Chase mode seems buggy (doesn't come on if you're Jack). Game looks pretty, just needs a patch. Sadly Asmodee have been really bad at fixing known issues.

  25. Matt Perrin-avatar

    Matt Perrin

Game AI periodically gets stuck and deadlocks itself, requiring exiting the gane. Hope it gets corrected soon because vthis is a nice little timewaster / brain teaser. Avoid the tutorial, just jump into the animated rules.

  26. Jeff Sotski-avatar

    Jeff Sotski

Plays well, no freezing up. Playing against AI, darn near impossible to win. Game mechanic or super AI is the problem. Removing game out of frustration.

  27. Andrew Griffiths-avatar

Freezes when waiting for AI to take its turn meaning at most I can play 1 turn. I've tried pressing and swiping everything but no luck. Waste of time and money

  28. Jenő Szabó-avatar

  35. Dawid Mitura-avatar

  42. Grá Linnaea-avatar

    Grá Linnaea

...but the artwork is mediocre, the English translation is terrible, and the infuriating slow animations make this nearly unplayable. The artwork and English are forgivable, but until they fix the irritating animation speed, I'd suggest avoiding this one.

  43. Stephen Terleski-avatar

    Stephen Terleski

Great digital port of the physical game. Captures the suspense and challenge. If anything I'd change it would be to make the AI graphics faster, and also to be able to retract a chosen action (grab the move sherlock by mistake and stuck with moving sherlock...).

  44. Rebekah Witherspoon-avatar

    Rebekah Witherspoon

Fun strategy and thinking ahead: "if I do this, then he'll do that, then I'll do this". The only way that I have won as Mr. Jack was when using the 3 optional characters: James Maybrick, Walter Sickert, and Lizzie Williams. Their tiles have street/wall configurations that make them easier to hide from the detectives. For example, Walter Sickert's tile has 3 walls, so he can only be seen from one direction, and no others can be seen through his tile. Wish these were sold as an expansion to the board game!

  45. Antonello Piemonte-avatar

    Antonello Piemonte

... of the boardgame. Fans of the latter will do no wrong in picking this up. No issues, responsive developers. Wish it had online multi player, hope the sales keep going to afford this feature.

    Yoav Itzhaki Krenzler

The cards aren't in favor of the AI, I think that people aren't aware to the possible solutions. Try the tutorial before playing. It took me some time to win at easy mode but once you gain the hang of you understand it is easy. I can't stop playing it, really addicting. You can play in solo either as Jack or the detective, but notice that you have to choose the right animation when you choose the game lvl.

  49. Elizabeth Alderson-avatar

    Elizabeth Alderson

Great game, like the solo, good brain exercise, yes the AI is tough, but I like. One problem, if doubling a detective on one space, can't select the space if on the side of the grid as it goes off the screen (width). So lost a few times when I couldn't select the space to double up.

  50. Kane Cheung-avatar

    Kane Cheung

Good brain burning deduction game. The AI is a bit tough, as in it gets the better actions a lot of the times and it ends up screwing up your set ups quite quickly. The new characters make things even tougher by adding more barriers into the mix. The games i have won were simply when the game favored me with the right action at the right time. Also, it would be nice to have an indicator for when who is about to get 2 turns in a row and having the option to change actions before it is executed. 👍

  51. Preston Rawson-avatar

    Preston Rawson

Horrible game if solo, only worthy against another person, AI always deals itself beneficial hands that almost always gives it a setup to win...random card generation doesn't exist, Which defeats the point of playing this game. Update: after continued playing have determined to delete game and materials, wish I bought a different game.

  52. J J-avatar

    J J

Solo play a waste of time and money. Poor rules explanation. Tutorial a joke as it assumes you know the rules prior.

  53. Søren Kiilerich-avatar

    Søren Kiilerich

Needs a surrender-button (when you know you've lost, but you still need to play your actions and wait for the sloooooow animations. The 'speed up animations' in the settings doesn't work. Apart from that it's a great game.

  54. Andrés Felipe Pabón Luna-avatar

    Andrés Felipe Pabón Luna

I enjoy the board game "Mr. Jack", so I wanted to give this apparently "light" version a try. It's not actually a light version of Mr. Jack, though, but a completely new game that just works well in a tablet or phone. I can't imagine the real game being any more fun than this. It's a brain burner, but one you can play in 5 minutes. Lots of fun.

  55. Grant Denis-avatar

Fun game to play, but the AI is absurdly hard even on easy. Perhaps a lower level than easy is needed for new players?

  60. Jeremiah Acevedo-avatar

    Jeremiah Acevedo

The game has great production value and it is extremely fun, however like others have mentioned, it is extremely difficult. Easy should be toned down a bit. Either that or the difficulties should be HARD, HARDER, HARDEST. The A.I seems to "randomly" get what it needs every single time. Will definitely 5 star when it becomes beatable. P.S: No need for a defensive reply Meeple Touch. The game is harder than it should be and that's a fact.

  61. Devin Turner-avatar

    Devin Turner

Excellent game and a very quality remake of the popular board game. Definitely a must-have for board gamers looking for a deduction game with Days of Wonder-like production values. I am looking forward to picking up the board game as well after enjoying this game so much!

Great game. Immense re-playability and just fun to play. Only problem is trying to view the rules on the phone. Very difficult to even locate--almost off screen icon on my phone--Samsung GS3. That's only flaw, otherwise excellent.

  72. Tim Suchomski-avatar

    Tim Suchomski

The developers did an excellent job turning this fun board game into an app. My only complaint is no multi-player. There is a single player ladder which is nice, but not the same thing as a multi-player ladder. Nevertheless this game is worth your money. You'll get loads of enjoyment from it as it's very challenging/interesting. As a single player game it's 5+ stars for how well the app is built and for how intelligent the computer AI is.

  73. Shawn Sieben-avatar

    Shawn Sieben

I have never played the physical version, but am really liking this digital version. Works properly at all aspects and is fun and challenge. Great to have a game where it feels like you truly need to outwit not only the board but yourself. Only nit pick is to have more interactive tutorial, like a demo run after the rules tutorial.

  74. Mary Mary-avatar

    Mary Mary

Really good adaptation of the board game. And the AI can get really hard so it's nice and challenging. I think this game lends itself to the app format well and the app developers did a really nice job too. So I sedimentary recommend this for anyone who lived the board game and everyone who likes detective brain teasers.

  75. Ryan Wallace-avatar

Having a feeling that tile draws aren't random. Nothing like being in chase mode and then being handed no possible way to win.

  76. Eric Wong-avatar

    Eric Wong

Really needs to support 2 player vs option. We just need to get around Mr. Jack's "hidden" hourglasses to implement it. All in all a good app to make a portable version of a Great game even more portable.

This is an absolutely fabulous board game for Android. The presentation is incredibly polished, the A.I. puts up a great fight (even on "easy") and the gameplay is just the right length for portable devices. This is how mobile board games should be done More please!

My only gripes is that the tutorial missions can be unclear (though there is a lightbulb moment when you do figure it out) and that exiting the game sometimes just restarts it. Otherwise, this is a solid forward-thinking game.

  81. Kenny Chong-avatar

    Kenny Chong

I love the physical copy of the game and glad we now have an electronic version for when I am by myself but still want to play the game. We need more of such boardgames on Android. Would be better if the statistics and rankings used the Google Play Games service. :)

  82. Paul Woodhouse-avatar

I love all of the games in this series, and the Android version of Mr. Jack pocket is a spot on implementation of the board game. The AI also seems reasonably decent so far, and I like the fact that it keeps track of various stats about wins/losses. I wish other android board games had this level of polish.

  88. Stephen Mawhinney-avatar

I've never played the board game but it doesn't quite work as a mobile game for me. Little to simple and not quite long enough. Much better board game ports out there (which isn't really the fault of the developers!)
