- and some more, just check the preferences...

Used permissions:

Phone state: Used to pause during a call. Otherwise it would only be muted by the system.

Wake lock: So the playback isn't stopped when you turn off the screen. Also for some optional features like disabling the auto screen off during playback.

Disable keyguard: In case you only want to use the app's lock screen. (And not return to the default one afterwards.)

Write/delete external storage: For some internal files in \.MortPlayer, e.g. cached folder covers from ID3 tags and track order lists.

Internet: Ads (AdMob)

Boot completed: To reschedule the alarm clock after boot.

Tasks: For "StopService" activity, to avoid the system returns to player afterwards -

True, it hasnt been updated in quite some time & some people may call that a "dead" app, but we need to ask ourselves why thats the case. It isnt because the dev gave up because when it comes to playing audiobooks it has great premium features like holding your place for when you come back to the app and it does everything you *need* for playing audiobooks and probably everything you *want* too! All in all It may not have EVERYTHING you want but has everything you NEED, for a free app its 5\5

Amazing app. Doesnt lose your place in large audio files. Make bookmarks and notes. Huge customization menu for appearance, playback and interface, menus, folders, etc. Custom widgets. Equalizer presets, bass boost, and reverb. There's an option to disable ads, but I haven't seen ads anywhere in this comprehensive and robust app.

I've been using this audiobook player since it first came out. As far as I'm concerned it does everything it needs to. Great app. It hasn't been supported since 2012 and I'm surprised it's lasted this long. It has a bug that causes it to crash, but you can work around it.

Installed on Galaxy 9+. Not played even single one sound, due continuously crashing on open command of any audio file. No where to send feedback, it offers to share about crashing, but opening android stock share menu to choose your way to share, but where? with whom? I do not keep all apps creators contact information for communications. The creators have to integrate crash error system in the app, what is typical approach. My rating of the app 👎👎👎👎👎

A really great app, but is unfortunately being let down now due to crashing everytime the folder is changed. I hope the dev can find the time to fix this great audiobook player.

It puts Audible app to shame. The one thing I wish it had is control of speed playback.

Best audiobook player around. I just wish the author would update it :( that crash bug is really annoying. No idea why you would abandon such a great project.

I'm a huge fan of this and the music player, but since Android has updated so much since 2012 (the last time MortPlayer was updated) things have gotten unstable. I still use it to play single files at night since I haven't found another app which will stop after one file plays. I do wish he'd come back and do some updates for the new Android versions, but I'm afraid that's not going to happen. Strangely, I chose these apps based on the name (he's a Terry Pratchett fan, as am I), but it's been a great choice for many years. Here's hoping for an update.

This used to be the best audiobook app. I've used versions of this going back to the old Windows Phones... this is pre iphone and pre android. And I have been using it on android for some time. BUT as other people have said, it has developed a bug where it crashes every time you access an audio book. It "works" if you just reload several times to do whatever you want to do. It is "functional"... barely. But it is in serious need of a patch and the developer is apparently entirely asleep at the switch. I can't recommend this app in its current condition.

Developer must be dead or something. Crashes every time I change audio books. It's been doing that for a year now, and hasn't been fixed. I would put up with it, but it's now repeatedly losing it's place too, and that's just unacceptable. Also doesn't report (or find, or save) position correctly for low bitrate files. I have a number of books that are encoded at 11khz monoaural, and a low quality setting to boot, and they've never worked right. Looks bad too, if you don't have cover pics!
