Can you and your sister outfox a galaxy-spanning AI to save your home planet? A rollicking adventure with space pirates, spies, and snarky computers.

"Light Years Apart" is a 230,000-word interactive sci-fi novel by Anaea Lay, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

You trained at the Kempari College, an academy for super spies, fighting against the Aydan-machine interplanetary AI. Aydan-machine and its affiliated megacorp, the ICA, have monopolized control over FTL weft-drives.

You resigned from the College when your teachers ordered you to commit murder. Since then, you've wandered the galaxy for a decade, so long that your shipboard computer has become your surrogate parent.

But now, the ICA has blockaded Kempus, and you're in a unique position to prevent thousands of unnecessary deaths. Will you ally with the enemy, or return to the rebels who once betrayed you?

What's more, your hacker sister has brought your old flame back into your orbit, and the love you left behind is now mission-critical. As a former spy, you have flexible morals, but there are certain lines you won't cross. The blockade is real, and it's killing kids.

When your planet needs you, will you step up or storm off?

    Anoushka

The storyline was promising but executed poorly. It was confusing to follow and it felt like characters were thrown in and out of the story haphazardly, it was definitely hard to tell who was relevant and occasionally what was even going on

  2. Socially Undead-avatar

    Socially Undead

The whole story felt very disjointed and awkward. It ended abruptly before I even really knew what I was doing and I felt shoehorned into every choice. What I did didn't seem to matter at all. This wasn't advertised as a romantic book, but the romance it did have was weird at best.

  3. George Zou-avatar

    George Zou

This CoG was at best, somewhat interesting, and at worst, confusing and tedious. The premise had a lot of potential but the execution of the story leaves much to be desired. The ending was completely underwhelming, no build up, no pay off, no climax, it just... happens, written in the same tone as the beginning and middle of the story. Romantic options are sparse and almost non-existent as well. All in all, it's a very 'meh' CoG, entertaining just enough to finish the story but not much else.

  4. Adam Young-avatar

    Adam Young

I actually purchased this book. The story and plot are very good. The characters are unique and the dialogue is humorous and entertaining. The world building in game was awesome, specifically the artificial intelligence everywhere in game and the personalities that goes with the AI. The tattoos your main character has that come out when drinking was a bit confusing. Sometimes it was unclear which stat related to which choice you were making. This was a good read and I enjoyed it.

  5. Ihaia Tichborne-avatar

    Ihaia Tichborne

Played for about an hour, then got bored and stopped. Didn't finish it. For me the narrative fell off a cliff once it got to the third planet. Things got needlessly confusing, the protagonist's actions seem to have little impact, and the characters introduced were less interesting. I doubt I'll go back and finish it.

    IRONHILLdwarf

For $2.99 it is worth it. Pretty good with some decent story choices. For those who enjoy a bit of espionage/spy type adventures it will be a great but of fun. Though I would say relationships in the game are pretty weak on all accounts and the action is almost always non-lethal. It is also a bit short compared to many of the others.

  7. Cain And Conquer-avatar

    Cain And Conquer

this one was so freaking good! I loved it, couldnt stop! havent had that with a choice of game in awhile(but I do love CoG). This had a really fun story and good characters all around, a pleasant suprise!

  8. Aireen Nadia-avatar

Its entertaining but the ending is abrupt and didn't reflect much on my past choice.

  9. James Radke-avatar

Can't go more than 2-3 pages without crashing out of the app.

Game was okay, it was a bit underwhelming in most areas though.
