- RetroArch 1.7.5 Update!
An amazing compilation of emulators and cheats. I love how I can use my bluetooth controller (An EVO VR one incase you are wondering) with it and it works great. I recommend this for anyone looking for an "All in one" emulator.. My only issue is, I have 1 "core" too many and cant figure out how to uninstall them.
Yes it's complicated, it has a horrible menu interface and the touch controls aren't that great either. Nonetheless, this is a project of epic scope and when you grasp the basics you'll realise it is an immensely powerful frontend packed with features such as robust net-play, tons of shaders, savestates, fast-forwarding, core downloading/updating, rewinding, even achievements for some game systems. I am amazed and very thankful to the libretro team for this amazing piece of software, keep up the great work people! 😁
Great app using shaders can turn everything into HD. It lags when using any PS1 core. Would love overlay controls for more consoles. Once you understand how to configure the app it is great. It took a while and several times until I got it down. I would've given this a five star rating but PS1 cores are buggy and need more button overlays for all consoles.
All the normies should stop rating 1 star and bashing Retroarch because you dont know how to use an app! This is the single most wonderful piece of software my phone has ever been graced with, if you have any knowledge whatsoever on how computers work you will get this up and running in less than a minute! I am enjoying my childhood again playing banjo kazooie thanks to libretro😊😊
THIS IS NOT A "PLUG AND PLAY" APP! BUT IT IS GREAT! RetroArch is a versatile and very well programmed emulator. It takes some time to set up and to learn to use it. There are many good guides for setup and use of this app. There ARE bugs/glitches! That is inevitable with a free, open source project like this! I've played maybe 30 different legacy console games on RetroArch mobile, about 85% of them work reliably. That's more than good enuf for me! Be patient!
Very Good, need some little improvements. You can play any retro game , nes snes sega genesis etc, once you get the hang of it, you can configure controller button mapping per game, general config per core (per system), adding roms and editing existing playlist (roms lists) can be tricky.
It's great for what it does. However I think it's rather too complicated to set up to your liking. It's got a ton of options but the menu is not user friendly in the slightest. The app does not like to play games once you hard reset the app without exiting the core emulator. And the UI is frankly ugly to look at, which again is hard enough to customize.
PLEASE READ! Only reviewing due to the low score of 3.8! This app is amazing, used for years now, its open source, let's you play all your old favourites, and even gives you netplay too! What else do you need!? Yes its a little complex, because it is complex! Just read tutorials on the official website and all is answered there! Deserves a 4.5 minimum!
So... its really buggy and weird. Half the time games freeze up or glitch out. Some of the cores actually make it crash. Its pretty unstable. I was trying to play Dementium II and it just kind of froze up, then crashed. Ok so i tried reinstalling it too, but then when selecting a game it crashed, then kept crashing when i tried to select a game.
Best emulator out there! Only a very stupid person would have trouble setting this up; there were far more complicated emus years ago This app can emulate every system and more!!!! Come on!! Google how to use it if you're a tech simpleton
Very sloppy code. Many many errors making playing a psx game VERY frustrating. This might be fine for nes/snes games, but id rather use john nes/snes for that.
How do I remove the overlay on top of the sceeen? Also NES doesnt need l1 l2 r1 r2 abxy start and select. Can't change size or position of on screen buttons and on screen buttons on top of screen are distracting and cannot remove.
The only thing that ruins this is some roms dont play. I have 1 tomba rom that is playable, excellent by the way, but every other hame i try to play doesnt load or stops mid way. This happened to Jumping flash, doesnt load after the first screen, blasto, not playable at all, gta2. Doesnt even load. I did everything even finding specifically pcsx roms and yet it doesnt work. 10 minutes to get thrown back into the start screen, yeah its not worth it. If there was a paid version of this i would consider buying it since i love the fact that it connects automatically to my controller. Thats the only thing keeping me from uninstalling this thing.
I love RetroArch, but audio is broken in 1.7.5. Won't allow setting anything but 44,100hz, which causes crackling because my device needs 48khz. Attempting to set audio output to anything else causes an odd truncated setting (48000 becomes 470), which just gets overwritten to 44.1khz when the program is restarted anyway. For a few versions zip unpacking has been wonky as well, saying some things fail to load which used to load fine, but I unfortunately can't recall which was the last version that worked perfectly.
Absolutely wonderful emulator. Well... more of an emulator hub. People complain that it is to complicated, but it really isn't. Just ask for advice (I didn't even need it) and you'll start to love it.
Meh... It's alright. I only use it for it's netplay capabilities, which are really finicky. Managing cores is a pain, and requires individual downloads. Too easy to accidentally download one, and you can't even delete them after you do. Customizing controls is really difficult. It's not terrible, but not great either.
This app is complicated. No doubt. This app isn't for a quick Pokémon game. This app is for the person who wants everything in one and is willing and capable of setting everything up. Once it's done, it's a gorgeous thing. Like your first kiss on a cool, summer night.
Not as good as on Windows Desktops, and Notebooks. The emulator lags. I ran better on my Ol Skool single core PC years ago that's only better than the Original Xbox, PS2, and Wii, and I have at 8-core phone. It's not optimized for my Samsung Galaxy
I don't normally rate let alone review stuff but retroarch byfar deserves it, I found this emulator on my computer and thought if I could move my gameplay beyond my computer and I could, retroarch for Android it was great. The way the cores work and just everything this is the only emulator you will ever need. Please don't rate it badly because you don't know how to use it.
Still needs work. Controls are too small. Some of the emulators play the games really choppy and some of the emulators hardly work on some of the games I am trying to play.
