RetroArch is an open-source project that makes use of a powerful development interface called Libretro. Libretro is an interface that allows you to make cross-platform applications that can use rich features such as OpenGL, cross-platform camera support, location support, and more in the future.

It comes with its own built-in collection of applications to provide you with a 'one-stop-shop' for entertainment.

Libretro and RetroArch are perfectly suited for creating games, emulators and multimedia programs. If you want to learn more, go to our website (listed below).

RetroArch is a multi-versatile program, that means that in order for it to do anything, you need modular programs that we call 'cores'. These cores DO NOT COME OUT OF THE BOX. You need to go to "Online Updater -> Core Updater" from within the app to download them.

* Eye-candy menus to choose from!
* Scan files directories and add them to game system collections!
* View database information about each game once added to a collection!
* Download programs ('cores') online
* Update everything!
* Download Game & Watch games and play them with our exclusive Game & Watch emulator!
* Built-in input remapping
* Ability to remap controls
* Ability to enter and load cheats
* Multi-language support!
* Over 80+ programs('cores') now and counting!
* Play multiplayer with NetPlay!
* Take screenshots, save states and more!

* No DRM
* No restrictions on usage
* Open-source
* No push ads
* No spying
* No ads period

    It's great with amazing cutomisation. But the version is iffy. Can acces the shaders through a file explorer, high chance of crashing when navigating the menus (but during gameplay), and you can't use all of the shaders provided. They would either fail to load, or just not look on how they are supposed to. The PC version is the more reliable version to get

    download It's the best emulator on Android by far but I do have a few problems, 1. The UI design is quite basic. 2. You can't copy cheat codes and instead have to write them out by hand, though it comes with cheat files containing a large variety of cheats. 3. It doesn't remember my options.

  3. Jerren Sia-avatar

    cores The UI is bad. The app does not support bluetooth reconnect (meaning if the controller disconnects and you reconnect it, it will not do anything unless you go to multitask and go back). There is a bug that involves the menus quickly shifting and changing to the point that it's uncontrollable (again multitask fixes it).Some of the menu titles are 'null'. Pressing BACK on android did not do anything. GBA has a 50/50 chance of crashing the app on start game or exit game. If you want GBA then use the individual emulators, but NES/SNES/GBC works fine. In other words. UNOPTIMIZED BUG FACTORY. Update 2: Had to change to 2 star because of their G&W emulator. (I have not tried it yet). Sadly, RA64 is incompatible with my device. The GBA emulatorapp (pizzaboy) I found works fine. Not ideal for 32 bit or upwards emulation.

  4. Polar-Star-avatar

    android Just a warning to everyone, this software is not very user-friendly. But once you learn how to properly use it, it's the best emulation app on Android hand down. I highly recommend this and if you're looking to emulate some classic games on Android, it doesn't get better than this! I recommend you read up on how to use it however.

  5. Giuseppe Ventura Giordano-avatar

    Giuseppe Ventura Giordano

    switch Could be the best emulator out there, but the interface is absolute *, with the same options in different menus. Fast forward doesn't work on any gba emulator that I know of but the community is so confused about its own interface in the forums and github that it will probably take months to the devs to notice. I swear that there is code here copied from r/badUIbattles, worsened by it having options that can only be changed with a keyboard or controller. Its so bad that it has to be intentional

  6. dogeboy46-avatar

    ios This app is amazing to me because I just love playing old classic retro games like sonic, mega man, contra stuff like that well I mean it has a lot like A LOT of emulators such as Sega, cap com, nes, PS PORTABLE and much more from when I started playing so far there's not too many bugs I've found in "Retroarch" there is one like my cheats won't load in or the game crashes because it is too much space but either than all those bugs I enjoy playing sonic, mega man, contra, streets of rage, and more so it is a 10/10 for me. : ) nice job

    roms -10 stars for this one. Yes it may have all the emulators right there for you, but there are many problems. The controller support is beyond broken. If you have to change your batteries you're going to have to reset the game because you're now player 2. If you get a phone call say goodbye to all progress because the app is going to crash. Do yourself a favor and go download the individual emulators. I've been using emulators for over 15 years and I've never seen these critical flaws.

  8. Kubero-avatar

    ps2 For whatever reason, it'll randomly crash not too far into starting a game sometimes and when I visit other apps, it frequently crashes. I was using the mGBA core and it happened multiple times. If this was fixed, then it'd be an easy 4 stars. If you're using this, make sure to save or make save states often.

  9. John Elmwood-avatar

    John Elmwood

    steam Beats snes9x and snesretro16/8 by far. This emulator lets you actually configure settings to reduce input latency which is utterly atrociously bad on other emulators. Also bug free in comparison to other emulators. The UI could have a simplified version, the average user may be overwhelmed in comparison to the other emulators which are a lot simpler to setup.

  10. TR PL-avatar

    TR PL

    xbox one The perfect one-stop emulator. The menus are a bit hard to navigate (especially the default one) but once you get used to it you can personalize it however you like. There's almost 0 aspects of RetroArch that can't be changed in some way. It also has incredible performance compared to others, this was the only emulator which could handle n64 reasonably well on my budget 2018 phone

  11. The Gaming Delphox-avatar

    The Gaming Delphox

    Very Good Emulator, Not User Friendly. This emulator can do so much with almost any console, It's great! But the problem is the ui is pretty complicated and takes a bit to get used to, but once you do you will love this app.

  12. Kinotsu-avatar

    Very complicated but also very powerful, capable of running a ton of different emulators. Not for someone that just wants simple emulation, this app requires you to find and load 'cores' which are like packages and mess around with tons of settings to get the emulator you want and everything running properly. Could definitely use some simplification to the navigation and interface because currently it is very annoying to set everything up. BUT, it does do the job and works great. And its FREE

  13. Charles Choc-avatar

    Great for emulating an assortment of vintage consoles. *Almost* a one-stop shop. Performance is fine (if not great) for older consoles, but newer platforms are infinitely better served by stand-alone emulators. DS, 3DS, Dreamcast, and GC performance is miserable/unusable in RA, for example. The one exception to this is the dedicated ScummVM app (latest version not available here), which is a much better experience than RA. I also prefer stand-alone MAME for arcade games. A noble pursuit...

  14. Benjamin C-avatar

    Benjamin C

    It's almost something amazing but it has a awful ui and emulating anything with 3d graphics has been a bad experience. Literally all the stand alone emulators, ppsspp, drastic, dolphin, all work better. I'm able to play nds games on my tablet using drastic without lag, but this app using any cores and I get insane lag. I think this app is great for any emulation of classic 2d consoles or gameboys and can be a one stop shop for all of them, and while being free without ads.

  15. x LikeABossk-avatar

    x LikeABossk

    Love retroarch, great software, does what it's meant to and fantastic amount of different settings too, very convenient to have nes, snes, n64, dreamcast ps1 and so on all in one :) Dolphin (GC & Wii) core is terrible though, Dolphin app works far better

  16. Wolf Of Redwall-avatar

    Wolf Of Redwall

    It's good but some games don't work right. like i have all of the files for red earth but none of the mame or final burn alpha cores will run it. In Some arcade games you can't move or use normal attacks but most games run fine.

  17. calvin zwicker-avatar

    calvin zwicker

    A very versatile emulator is ruined by what is hands down the worst ui I have ever had the displeasure of using, it is a confusing mess of subdirectories, bad text fields and bugs. Please use a standalone equivalent to the emulators found in this

  18. Greg Rayfield-avatar

    Greg Rayfield

    This is pretty cool. It took me a little while to figure out how you start each of the emulators but I got it now. Some emulators close out the app and send me back to my phone's home screen. I'm assuming because I need a more powerful phone. Anyway, I like RetroArch. It's worth buying. (Update) removed one star because new update isn't compatible with my phone. All others were fine.

  19. Patrick star-avatar

    Patrick star

    This is one of the best emulators out there with the most Variety of systems, at first I was confused about how to use it but with a little research it became easy to set up and I could get it set up. My biggest problem is using a controller ( I think it's the controller I was using) it is a little Finicky.

  20. Erik Ebbesen-avatar

    Erik Ebbesen

    Impossible to effectively use without a controller. Can't even close the search keyboard without a controller or closing the app. Big fan of the desktop software but you're way better off with stand alone emulators on mobile.

  21. Rainer K.-avatar

    Rainer K.

    Doesn't seem to work on my Fire HD 8 Plus. The cores don't install, they all download to 49% and then stall. Kinda weird. All other stuff gets stuck at 99% or even 100%. Same thing happens on my Huawei tablet so downloads don't work, great job. Even tried the newest version (1.9.0), same problem.

  22. Frederick Weiss-avatar

    Not for beginners. This is a very complex emulator for retro games which works well but does have bugs. Kudos to devs for such a huge endeavor. I wish there were better tutorials online.

  23. Lennart Hoekveen-avatar

    Lennart Hoekveen

    Don't like it. YET. Reasons. #1: UI pretty annoying in use, quite clusterf<3k-ish/ boring(therare old emu's with most accessible/pretty UI's) #2: Can't find way to access the app UI once control button overlay=off(I use bt Xb1 S joyst) #3: How to edit button mapping? And if I change, does it go for all emulators in RArch? I respect devs 4 noble/ambitiousgoal. But at this stage it's making my head spin so I'll just stick with separate emulators for now srry crappy review google only gives 500char

  24. Glenn Thomson-avatar

    Glenn Thomson

    There is no comparison to Retroarch. Yes, it can be buggy and the learning curve is steep. But, it is powerful and versatile without any cost or ad assault. I haven't come across an issue yet that can't be resolved with a little research or tweaking.

  25. Dallas Ware-avatar

    Dallas Ware

    Would give 4 stars as every console up to PS1 has worked perfectly, PS2 won't run even with a Xiaomi Mi mix 3 5g, however all of a sudden all of the downloadable cores have disappeared and you can only use the ones you already have downloaded. So at least until the next update the app is useless if you are only just downloading it now.

  26. ZJ-avatar

    RetroArch is honestly the best emulator in my opinion, just a few things and it looks beautiful and very useful but the only thing I really need the developers to do! is to please change it so thatwe can delete a core if we don't want it without having to clear data please!

  27. Sloppydj-avatar

    Follow a setup guide and you'll have access to so many options, it's hard not to recommend, just know there is a learning curve. Explore the settings tab and figure out where all the options live that you'll want later.

  28. Archie Williams III-avatar

    Archie Williams III

    Almost perfect. Too bad the repos got hacked earlier this morning 😒. That's why the cores, updater etc fails to retrieve and so forth. Otherwise a very enjoyable app. Have patience, they will get it resolved. Nofhing is safe from hacking.

  29. Terumimi-avatar

    So i used to use this app all the time since i couldn't get a DS emulator that worked well on my phone. All of a sudden, though, now i cant download cores and most things i do crash the app. I even tried the 64 bit version and it did the same. I used to love it despite how complecated, so PLEASE try to fix this.

  30. DrawCatDraw!-avatar

    I love reproach, and it's my favorite Android emulator. Recently, I got a new phone, and for some reason I cannot install any cores, they just say downloading, and it never stops saying downloading.

  31. Valcris Trepes-avatar

    Downloaded on a new device after a year or so of use on my old phone. Used to be my favorite way to emulate older games. Now no cores are available. Will update my review if and when it's fixed. Edit: That was quick. Good on ya, and thanks for what you guys do!

    It works fine but it crashes when ever I try to save state or anything like that, and some things does seems to load properly in the games. Specially when I try to save my game some of the info doesn't show up

  33. Arden-avatar

    This is probably the best emulator I've tried so far. The interface is not the most user-friendly, but once configured it works perfectly fine. It doesn't drain battery, only lose 8% after an hour of play. And most importantly...NO ADS AND IT'S FREE!! The only issue I find is when the core is loaded and you touch the fingerprint sensor, the app crashed. It happens a lot, and I hope developer will fix this.

    This is fantastic. I play on an S10+ and I have had no issues whatsoever. I grabbed this knowing that I would need to find games elsewhere, and I was able to download different emulators through the app itself. Well done!

    It works great, please keep in mind that it use the available resources on your device, so if there is 55 processes in the background it will stutter somewhat also, if your device is lacking in the RAM department you'll know it rather quickly. The control set up is what you make of it, if you have a weird aspect ratio you will need to tweak it A LOT or you may want to find one on the net and load it. It's an open source software so keep that in mind.

  38. Strongforce 99999-avatar

    Strongforce 99999

    RetroArch is perfect in every way possible, don't listen to the negative reviews. Sure the interface could be confusing to someone who has never used RetroArch before, but once you understand how to download and load cores, how to get your ROMs to work and how to get a gamepad working, this app is great. This thing is powerful, 5 stars for sure!

  39. Are you threatening me, Master Jedi?-avatar

    Are you threatening me, Master Jedi?

    I normally wouldn't recommend a 3* app, but it's a herculean effort that simply has no peer. You can do pretty much anything with it, and it's multiplatform. Those, of course, are also the reason for its flaws. It Really likes crashing, even if the thing you did works, but it doesn't like when you did it. Then, of course, you lose all of your config changes you made that session. I have had to do config setups for certain things 5 or more times due to the way it saves configs.

    Ok, im taking back everything bad i said about this app, its become the best of the best, ps2 play and dolphin dont work at all but they are broken emulators but you retroach i have high hopes for yous fixing them. Well done to the creators. :)

    This is an awesome app. It seems to work with all the core systems except for sega saturn. It's missing the yabause xtreme core. Other than that it works great.

  42. Ormiph-avatar

    Pretty good. Emulates basically every console you would need and does so pretty good. On screen controls are pretty iffy, but the use of a wireless controller makes it waaaaay better.

    Nice but it's not game I have found there is typed it's game it's app one of Emulators I have used it as well on Windows 10 to emulate first PC's Atari to emulate Mario 1 it's 1972 year game nice it looked like Dave on PC.

    Nitish Sharma

    I don't have any problem with the UI, though it is tough to get used to for the average Joe, I didn't have much of a problem personally. I have one major problem however. Everytime a setting I change, it doesn't get saved permanently whether it is the overlay opacity or the keybinds of my Xbox one S controller which is a BIG ISSUE.

  45. Banzom-avatar

    It's a good app with loads of emulators to use. The great thing is it's totally free and no in app purchases. I wish I had a better device for the 64 bit version but still this works for what I wanted to play. I've completed banjo kazooie on it. If you have a bluetooth controller you can hook that up. Ps4/xbox works. I 101% reccomend it if you need emulators.

  46. AssKicker47-avatar

    RetroArch is quite simply the most robust emulation suite on all systems it's available on, including Android. Not only that, I've tested it with phones dating all the way back to the OnePlus One, and it's worked perfectly on all of them. It offers a huge selection of cores and many GUI interface options for screen overlays when you're playing your games with a touch screen. It has worked perfectly with every single controller I tried pairing this device with, and the level of responsiveness this app has is only slightly hindered by the rather archaic-looking, slightly cumbersome menu systems. A modified version of the PC menu system would come a long way towards making this snappier (especially if you're using a controller which I hope you are). RetroArch is simply amazing.

  47. V.M. Hoffmann-avatar

    V.M. Hoffmann

    It worked like a charm in the past, but about two months ago it stopped working. What I mean - whenever I load content in PCSX reARMed or PPSSPP, Retroarch closes itself and force me to homescreen on Moto Z3 Play (stock ROM). Same thing is happening on Nexus 7 (2013). Sometimes content is loaded properly, but in ingame menu, when I push, say, Start button, it brings me back to phone homescreen. What could be wrong? Any help will be appreciated, thank you. Edit: it works again, except for PPSSPP

  48. Adi Napiza-avatar

    Adi Napiza

    Great front end for emulation. Some cores need to optimized though. For example, using the PPSSPP core is slow through RA (even after some tweaking) but works fine using the PPSSPP application itself.

    I had to drop my rating for this app to 4 stars instead of 5. There are some nagging issues that devs have not addressed. The chiefest among these is that the touchscreen calibration is horrendously bad. When I use the N64 gamepad - it somehow interprets a sharp right turn on the analog stick as a B button press. And the B button is way on the other side of the screen (this while playing in landscape mode)! The app also has numerous issues with freezing and forcing itself stopped. Otherwise it is a great app that emulates many video game consoles and arcade machines quite well. Retroarch is still my favorite video game emulator on Android - but these issues need to be corrected. I don't think my Android device is the problem here. I think the problem is in the app.

    This is the best emulator setup you can get. But has a steep learning curve. If you have never used it before don't expect to be up and running straight away. Search YouTube for tutorials. Once setup thought you will not need another emulator again. In fact setting up your emulators is half the fun of Retroarch.

    I've been loving this app for a while, but then it randomly deleted all my save files. Games I've spent almost two years playing I now have to start all over again. I don't know what bug caused the app to do this, but it definitely caused plenty of grief, and I'm really disappointed that I lost everything literally overnight.

    Hands down the best thing you can download on this God forsaken app store that is filled with copies upon copies of other good games, games that shove ads down your throat on every miniscule action and pay to win garbage which makes it impossible to find a playable and enjoyable game when searching for a way to pass time, they simply drown out anything good because of the sheer amount of them. I'd rather take an emulator and any NES game over 99% of the trash people dump on this app store.

  55. dragonballz1432009-avatar

    I'm a Twitch streamer and I post content to YouTube.... So why does your app have a recording function but no actual drivers to use it, and how am I supposed to stream? Edit: Not even the RetroAchievements works. Tried 3 NES cores including Mesen

    An emulator that can work and somehow covers a decent spread, or at least that's what it makes you think. Half of the platforms don't work and the ones that do lag. Not to mention the confusing interface. If you want gba and nds, it will work, sort of... but if nds is the goal. Just buy drastic.

  57. Michael Loney-avatar

    This emulator has some excellent potential. Every system you can imagine is unified via cores. Retropi uses a version of this for Linux, for example. Only problem is it's a little complex and intimidating for newer users. And it also doesn't appear to let me customize the save folder. I would do so to sync my saves using Drivesync.

    Extremely powerful but the gui does not follow touchscreen conventions. It needs days to familiarize with. Be prepared for some studying. For me the CRT shaders alone make up for the difficulty. Keep configuration simple and avoid per game control and input profiles you will end up messing your config and reinstalling everything. Also familiarize yourself with the configuration files & folders layout.

    I get what you've done here and it's brilliant. That being said. For the love of God, could you make it look a little prettier?? It is one ugly emulator, the idea is superb, execution (unless you're scanning for psx ROMs, crashes on OnePlus 8 pro and Asus Rog 2) That's my only real gripe, make it a little better to look at. Other than that, thank you. Until you do fix this. I'll be using the amazing front end that is DIG, doesn't have to be elaborate to be a good looking UI.

    it no longer opens without crashing. 5stars because i want it to work and I think it has so much potential. I changed the settings, I think because I set it to a Vulkan render, I can no longer use it. I also can't find the configuration file to fix the problem. I really want this to work. I really like this program as a concept. It's one of the best I've ever seen. I'm really sad that I can no longer use it. I'm going to try and fix it, but here's my rating. Best wishes.

    Downloaded this and was playing games with my bt controller in less than 5 minutes (ROMs were already on my phone). There are a lot of options I haven't messed with yet but so far it worked right out of the box and flawlessly. Thanks dev!

    It's good, just go look up a walkthrough of how to use it. Once you know, it's just about the only app you play. Some things just kinda slack. But I'm talking like PS2 or Even Wii games. Those are very needy consoles. Eat up all your RAM.

  73. Soumy Bhow-avatar

    Soumy Bhow

    This is the best free, overall emulator. It can emulate nearly every system well. The UI is a bit confusing, but once you figure it out then it's really easy to use. So glad I don't have to install an app for every emulator I need.

    I love my games collection built on many years, some consoles have gone to digital heaven with over use ^^ this delicious app saves carrying multiple old consoles from the loft/backroom/storage container to play said games collection. I can heartily recomend it, i have mostly been using it on my ps classic and recently added my phone and tv stick to the retroarch fun. theres plenty of videos on how to use this app, if you wish to tread the digital paths of nostalgia then look no further ^_-

    I have problems with a few cores, such as PSP and NDS, I can't run any game on the PSP core because it just crashes immediately, but on NDS, when I run a game, it lags so bad, the framerate is basically 2 or 3 frames per second. Literally unplayable on any of those two cores. And I can't run any games on PS2 cores either. I'm giving you 3 stars until you fix this

    Works great! Please add a round icon option. It looks horrible in the app drawer, like a small square inside a white circle.

    This is the best emulator ever thanks for letting me have some nostalgia and it is a multi emulator so I can play every console from the nes until the ps2 i downloaded it on my pc too but there was a problem with the ps2 emulation on pc cuz when I try to emulate gta vice city stories it just gives me a black screen but it is still a ton of fun to play !😄😄😄

    Great multi-core emulator(s,) optimized and updated often for multiple O.S.s, and can be as detailed, customizable, and dynamic or as simple as you prefer. Great all-around emulator and decent front-end. Support the developers, please!

    After learning that, for some reason, some settings don't save unless you specifically save the app's configuration from the home menu, I found the orientation setting and got it to work. Had to go to User Interface > enable Show Advanced Settings > Home > Configuration > Save, restarted for setting to take effect, Video > Output > Orientation by 90 degrees > Save config and restart again. A great emulator, if a bit unintuitive and messy for new users that get easily lost in a hundred menus.

    Update COULD NOT find the metroid rom that i downloaded this app is USELESS Instead of making an app with a bunch of emulators on and making it hard to navigate for the app itself why not just make one emulator like gamecube for example and i could not find roms for the guy who made the pc emulators for your app

    I'm sorry for the 3 stars but I tried using the DOSBOX core to run Fallout 1 and it came up with Fallout Illegal Command. It also had no keyboard and looked like a PSX controller.

    Could not make it work. Nintendo DS emulator works, but slow, laggy, low fps. PSX emulator doesn't load anything.

    Love this multi emulator. Yes, it takes time and effort to make it work, so for those amateurs who want an easy emulator better go elsewhere. For emulator anthusiast like me, this emulator is heaven... It still far from perfect, but thats what we called progress.

    Great app Bit of a learning curve during set up but plenty of tutorials by retroarch and others online Once you have it set up it's a great multi consol emulator with a great UI. A bit of patience and watching a few online tutorials is well worth the end results

  90. Jason Sanders-avatar

    Jason Sanders

    So bad it's unusable. I can't understand who would actually tolerate this. They're overriding all system settings, inserting some crappy custom keyboard, using un-wrapped text so you can't read 90% of the items on the page, overriding scroll settings so everything feels sluggish and terrible. Given that the defaults on Android give a reasonably good experience, I really can't get over how much work they must have put in to make it this bad.

    Great all-in-one emulator!!! My only problem is I can't enlarge or adjust the positions of the gamepad/controller. Besides that, it's great and convenient!!

  94. GonnaRegretThis-avatar

    I live playing my retro games on there especially since I have the newest T-Mobile phone this app is the best bc I can download almost literally any console from the 1970s till 2000s which is crazy to me. Thank youuuu RetroArch

  95. Jack-avatar

    One stop for many emulators, you can download the "cores" which are essentially emulators right in the app. Very useful.

    It's a great emulation app, but it logs you out of RetroAchievements every time you exit the app. I'd give it a five star review if that wasn't an issue.

    Fantastic emulator. Runs games flawlessly. Only pain is having to scroll through the entire cheat list section everytime I load a game 😔 and there is alot of DS cheats.... Anyone know how to load specific chests without having to scroll the entire lists?

  101. delt-avatar

    This has been MASSIVELY improved! No more crashes on the cores i've tested (which might be due to new phone) and the UI is much better and less clunky than before. Some cores are still way inferior to the emulators they're from, or just plain unusable, just need to know which ones.

  102. NOOB GAMER-avatar

    Hello It seems like you have removed naomi_boot.bin as one of the files required for naomi/Dreamcast core to work After that,some games like neo Geo battle colisium and samurai shodown have started crashing as soon as they start Also, my opponents are no longer getting randomised as they should in king of fighters xi Kindly fix

  103. destoyerofeps-avatar

    It's a very useful emulator however it's very limited in what you can play I think it's it needs GameCube and Wii U then it's five stars

  104. Nafiz Amin-avatar
