App ChangeLog

  • This release addresses several issues:
  • * We've added safeguards to ensure that downloads are not fetched on cellular networks if you have "Wifi-only" checked.
  • * If you have an Android 9 phone with a display cutout (or "notch"), reading and listening layout is improved.
  • * Fixed a bug where seeking immediately after re-opening the app could take you to an unexpected part of the audiobook.

Reviews From google play store

Very easy to use, once you play with it a bit. More importantly, is it's 24-hour convenience and the access it gives you to partnering library systems, if your library has them. I have access to my county's libraries and the city libraries of my university, while away from either. The app itself can feel counterintuitive at times have to press buttons that seem like the same command 2x on different screens, but it is easy to use.

This app is handy but flawed. It has a decent selection of books but needs to be expanded in the early the often part of a series is available but not all of it and there are far less audiobooks to pick from than pdf books. Also the app tends to disconnect and stop after being on for about an hour regardless of the audio book that you have on. This is highly irritating as you have to stop what you are doing to reopen the app to listen to the book.

Libby has changed my life. The app is constantly being improved. One wish: to be able to continue highlighting across a page break, the way the Kindle reader allows me to do. Right now, I have to either make two separate highlights *or* fiddle with the text size to get the entire passage I want to highlight to fit on one page.

My whole family absolutely loves this app! We are all reading more! My 8 year old likes to download audio books and she and I will listen to and from school! I myself love to hear books while traveling long distances and honestly any time I'm in the car! It's great for my husband who has a 30-40 min commute each way to work. We highly recommen this app!

Nice app that I enjoy using, but I have two gripes: 1) I find it difficult to actually search for a book (search bar onky available after I click on "Library." Why not allow search from home screen?) 2) I only get notified when my library book is about to be returned (not when I get it in the first place). This means that when I have books on hold for months on end, I only get a notification saying I have 3 day days left on the loan. Yes, I have "Hold Ready" notification enabled.

I have been enjoying this app for quite some time and loving listening to audio books! However over the past couple months, my audiobooks have been stopping on their own every ten minutes or so. This has become an annoying problem. I have to open the app again and again to restart my book. Plus, it disrupts the story!! I hope they fix this soon.

The greatest app in the world. That's not hyperbole. I canceled Audible and am saving a lot on ebooks. Much better to use this then throw money into the black hole that is Amazon. App is well made and does everything. They also have a Windows 10 app with full feature parity. This is without a doubt the best app I have on my phone.

Libby is a great way to access audiobooks. It allows me to read when I have leisure time or listen while driving or working. I use it on my Samsung phone as an apps on Samsung Edge. If I open an audiobook with Edge and later open it from a home screen, the audiobook will not have synced and I will find myself at a different point in the text. The selection of books is determined by your library so it helps if you use more than one library. I save money on books and space in my bookcases!

I've been using libby for over a year now. I started out on Overdrive but prefer this interface better. Love how I can link several libraries and see the status of my holds, my history, add suspensions. The controls are super easy. The speed controls are really good. So many apps only offer you limited option but you can play the book on triple speed and go up in intervals of 5% if you use it for audio books. Best reading app out there!

LOVE Libby. It's simple to use. Audio/E-Book progress syncs across computer and devices, so I never lose my spot! I use tags to organize my genre 'wish lists' if only I had more library cards! Rated 4/5 as there are some features not yet available from the parent app Overdrive or similar apps, such as: book ratings, tag syncing, title requesting... would also be nice to have annual summary of borrow history (hours/pages, quantity, highest/lowest rates, etc.)

requires following permissions on your android device.

approximate location (network-based)
Allows the app to get your approximate location. This location is derived by location services using network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine approximately where you are.

view network connections
Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected.

pair with Bluetooth devices
Allows the app to view the configuration of the Bluetooth on the phone, and to make and accept connections with paired devices.

Allows access to the list of accounts in the Accounts Service.

full network access
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.

run at startup
Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allow the app to slow down the overall phone by always running.

control vibration
Allows the app to control the vibrator.

prevent phone from sleeping
Allows the app to prevent the phone from going to sleep.

receive data from Internet
Allows apps to accept cloud to device messages sent by the app's service. Using this service will incur data usage. Malicious apps could cause excess data usage.
