These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine approximately where you are.

precise location (GPS and network-based)
Allows the app to get your precise location using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine where you are, and may consume additional battery power.

  1. Tim McLarnan-avatar

Bit of a scruffy interface, but incredibly useful to me. I'm involved with the horse co-op at my college, and we need to get the horses into the barn during thunderstorms. Getting alerts that lightning is coming before we hear the thunder lets us get out and catch the horses before it gets dangerous to us and to them. So, yeah, this app saves ponies!

  2. Adam Deary-avatar

Okay now I have worked out how to use it properly (didn't realise it was set to show nearby strikes only!), The app is not that bad, but still only as good as Blitzortung, but no ads....

  3. Steve Brandt-avatar

Useful to a point. It would be helpful if the radar was animated to show direction of movement.

  4. Michael Zych-avatar

Cool app, but I wish when you shared a strike it would show your location and the strike on the map. It's zoomed way out and just gives the GPS of the strike and how far it was from you. And you can't click on it to open it up on Google maps. I'd like a clear graphic showing your location and the location of the strike.

  5. Kate Wood-avatar

Love thunderstorms, love this app. Using the Pro version - better than the free one, and not that expensive. I use a notification for it that sounds like a lightning strike and it alerts me when there's a strike within 50 km (adjustable).

  6. H Strawlair-avatar

Very limited app, the free version would be fine but the pro version is not even close to worth it. Fine if you're just an enthusiast or curious where lightning was within an hour of your current time, but when it comes down to tracking those strikes to ensure they do not cause a wildfire, this app is only moderately helpful.

  7. Stephen Green-avatar

Have just discovered this app and for general tracking of lightning it's brilliant. It is so precise it tells you the exact location of the strike down to the road where it struck!!! I have been using the hurricane tracker by the same developer and it too is excellent. I recommend both 👍

  8. Simon Neale-avatar

I've noticed that the app is not that accurate any more. Not sure why, but I've found other apps to have a greater degree of accuracy... This one seems to be out. Otherwise it's a good app and really simple to use.

  9. Glen Bell-avatar

Update: App works as it should now. Thank you for responding! ---- The App has recently continued to crash on Android S9. Not just my phone but other acquaintances as well. Please advise.

Fantastic, . . Real-Time Lightning Strikes as they occur. Great control over App Settings. Been using it for years without any problems. Thanx Developers. 5+ Stars.

  11. Johnny J3EBI4A-avatar

Great work , still missing your old Weather Timeline app 🥺.

  12. Colin McDonald-avatar

Great app, would get 5 stars if you could loop the lightning & rain. But like it for lighting photography.

  13. Ma Rk-avatar

Love seeing the dot appear on the map before you hear the thunder. AWSOME!!

  14. Troy Griffis-avatar

It does a very Accurate Job of Lightening Location and Movement

  15. Stevie Wallace-avatar

Quick reaction to lightning activity in your local area. Ideal for photo opportunities.

  16. John Jewell-avatar

I have found the Pro version is worth the upgrade for setting personal preferences in tracking and notification

  17. Mark Sanderson-avatar

Clear view of lightening, easy to track storms.

Good early warning, but wish you could whittle down to approx 10 mile .

  19. John V-avatar

Like app then paid for pro and no warnings when lightning around?

  20. Andy Wright-avatar

AFAIK there's no history of hotspots or ability to see thunderstorms develop as there is no looping video. The app only shows current radar, so you cannot judge any movement of a stormfront. IF the app had useful looping of video it could be awesome. Also, no user manual that I could find for things like defining the colors on the radar screen, only FAQ.

Does what it says it does. I'm glad of it so I know when to protect my radio equipment.

  22. Jimmy Pierce-avatar

Would not work on Android 10. Got it working after rebooting the phone 2 times. Works great. Thanks a lot.

  23. Shane Lang-avatar

Excellent app. Works perfectly on Android 10. Had lightning storm yesterday and within 3 seconds the app notified me...amazing.

  24. Cecil Paradiso-avatar

Great and timely app. Would like to see option to animate radar with historical strikes that go back beyond just 60 minutes.

Good can still be improved.... .

  28. Marian Shaw-avatar

This app is great, thank you. I am glad that I have gone pro 🌞

This app is both instructive and amusing. The combination of lightning tracking and weather radar is just the thing for planning for the arrival of storm cells. I'd like some way to tell the speed and direction of the local air masses, but I won't mark My Lightning Tracker down for not being a different app. It does what it says it will.

  37. JW Hess-avatar

This is a great app! I have been using the free version for about a year and the technology amazes me. Very accurate strike data! I would be interested on how the data is collected. As for the negative reviews, come on people. Bugs happen and most are phone related. And those entitled snowflakes who complain about spending 2 bucks on a man's hard work think nothing of spending $7 in Starbucks on a cup of coffee! I was happy using the free app but just bought this to support the author. Good job!!

  38. Susie Miller-avatar

When I use the app and tap for a lighting distance from my home it always shows 24.7 miles away even when the lightning is on my street!! I live in the lightning capital of the U.S and do not receive the information I need. The notifications do not come frequently enough at all! This app is unreliable during a storm. UPDATE: I received a timely email from the developer. My problem is resolved and I love this app. The only improvement would be a time on the notifications without going to the app.

  39. Lee Butler-avatar

Great App, I use it for my work using a specific radius as we have workers constantly up in bucket trucks, cranes, and climbing power and transmission towers. It isn't safe to be up in the air when lightening is around. This has been the best app to give me exactly what I want. I have premium and it is definently worth it and more👍👍

  40. Br H-avatar

Mixed feelings about this app. I have used it for about a month or so. Today, for some reason, it stopped displaying the Google map on the screen, just a blank screen. Although my location and nearby lightning strikes were shown as coloured dots. I deleted the app and reinstalled from the Google Play store, and it has fixed this - the background map is again showing up. But I should not need to have to do this. Was this a glitch with the app or a Google problem? Not sure.

  41. Greg Campbell-avatar

An option to unpack grouped bolts is necessary! The yellow beach balls provide no useful information other than 'there's a storm in that county.' Yea, no kidding. Sure, I can zoom in, but by the time the individual strikes and storm movement patterns are resolved, the storm is in my lap. After a season of monsoon lightning chasing, I rarely use this app, preferring the lightningmaps web page. Also, on-screen zoom buttons would save much pinching.

  42. Brandon Blair-avatar

I primarily use the app for checking to see if I can swim or not due to lightning. Which it really good at. The only thing I think could be improved is being able to show two radiuses so I can be warned when lightning is close to the radius where I can't swim and the other is the radius I can't swim.

  43. Peter Robinson-avatar

As a firefighter this is a great app considering the amount of dry lighting we have had so far this fire season.

  44. Jim Bailey-avatar

Very nice app, a little buggy but nice. Screen movement, pinch and zoom needs a little work. The most annoying part of this app,is the oop up screen when you start the app, "no lightning strikes in the laat 6 minutes. Please loose that notification every time the app is started. Thanks for making this app.

  45. Troy Naylor-avatar

Fun useful app. I like that you can set a location other than you current location and get notifications on strikes. I have it notifying on remote recreational property we have in another part of our state. When its an active lightning day we can then monitor local sources for active wildfires.

  46. Tomm Gundal-avatar

What sweet little app! I've done real time testing via telephone teams, and by local observation. This thing seems pretty on track. Even the radar is very very good! It doesn't randomly turn on or make random connections to weird servers or drain your battery. Excellent app for weather hobbyists!

  47. Ben Hickleton-avatar

Loving it so far! The only thing I'd love is for the radar to display the last 5 or so images similar to other weather apps. That way we could tell what direction a storm is moving. Otherwise perfect!

  48. Michael Baker-avatar

So far, this has been my best app for lightning detection. I love the fact it updates so quickly and pinpoints the location of each strike. I use it often as my job keeps me outside much of the time.

  49. David Pettifor-avatar

Strikes show up within seconds on map...accuracy is within several meters. A lot of fun to watch while sitting through a storm, but also a great tool for determining if coming storm system may pose a lightning threat.

  50. John Walker-avatar

Reliable when others are silent. Useful, colorful displays.

  51. mark smith-avatar

The app is fantastic and fairly accurate. I like the way it shows the radar of the weather as it informs us of when the bad weather is coming towards us. worth having

  52. paul davis-avatar

    Great app great communication

  53. Don Denison-avatar

This is the most worthless app for tracking lightning. I set out on my front porch now for 3 evenings straight and watched down strikes move throgh my area. This app never once showed lightning within 36 miles of me.. What a waste of money.. i strongly recommend not purchasing.

has an issue where it wont load strike positions even in the middle of a thunderstorm (takes about two or three restarts) or your position, other than that, good app.

  55. Anne Marie Kowalski-avatar

    Anne Marie Kowalski

    2019-09-03T22:04:53.132Z

Had an older version of lightning tracker on another device which was better. It showed the strike and the thunder ring coming from that strike. This version does not do this.

  56. A Google user-avatar

Still good, I commented before though. Would be nice if it could be updated so the radius can be manually entered to help those with large hands. Makes it hard to get the correct distances.

  57. Peter Cornelisse-avatar

    Peter Cornelisse

    2020-03-29T21:24:25.858Z

Great for watching active lightening storms.

  58. Jason Ellis-avatar

Beautiful colours, implementation and design. Also from a developer whom I've purchased other apps that I trust. Perhaps a little widget "lightening possibility meter" would be a really cool addition.

  59. Darryl Dean-avatar

Good app but would prefer more accuracy in the numbers displayed. 50 is often closer to 80 strikes, 1000 is often closer to 1500 or even 2000 strikes when zoomed in.

  60. B Michael-avatar

Paid for the Pro $1.99, this app does accurately notify lightning strikes however, if I open up the app during a storm the "radar" option, shows huge broken up pixels of blue.

  61. viv reeves-avatar

Found this to be pretty accurate. don't quite understand the difference in yellow/red dots .... apart from the colour! thank you

This app saved a lot live livestock and homes last night. We live in the a rural area. It has been quite hot and dry. During a storm I watch where the lightning strikes on the map around us and am also alerted to how close it is. Then in the direction of the strike I look with high powered binoculars. Last night a strike started a wildfire. It was around 10:30 PM when everyone was sleeping. I saw the glow of the fire almost immediately and called the fire department. Only 20 acres burned! Thx!

  63. Russ-avatar

I really like the app, seems to work well, the only thing I wish were different would be for the radar to be a gif rather than a single picture.

  64. Stephan Egli-avatar

I really like the app but the notifications dont work. Ive gotten maybe 2 in total. I hear a lot thunder but no notifications. In the app they have instructions incase you have this issue. I follwed it but still doesnt work.

Perfect app for dangerous lighting moving in your area, it's notification ⚠ alerts ⚠ a must with a map that zooms in on the latest strike is pretty dang sweet..

  68. DALE SANDBERG-avatar

very fast seems quite accurate. Has been a big help with knowing where the lightning is causing trouble.

  69. bob f-avatar

meh... not that accurate. storming right now and tracking is inaccurate. according to map a strike was a block away. there was thunder but about 20 seconds later. so more like a mile away.

  70. Idaho JET Man-avatar

notifications are extremely delayed and doesn't notify of all strikes. Storm Radar is a much more accurate app. and it's free.

  71. Darius Doss-avatar

I really love tracking lightning strikes with this app. It is really useful.😊 keep up the great work

  72. sharon elliott-avatar

just had a thunderstorm, I looked outside.... app didnt even alert me! in fact I went on it and it doesn't even the show the lightening strikes!! I thought this was accurate

Many way better lightning apps available. Doesn't seem to recognise lighning strikes picked up by other apps. Big disappointment, foolishly thought a paid for app would be superior to free apps.

  74. Peter Ellis-avatar

Good on notifications but radar needs some work.

  75. J C-avatar

Its good but id really like an option so you can see the whole days activity vs 30 min ago or even better previous days activity.

  76. Bruce Reed-avatar

this app is one of the best I've seen for tracking lightning does exactly what it's supposed to do great job

  77. Kurt White-avatar

Love it. Great, accurate, fast. Customizable perimeter. Its the best for tracking lightning.

  78. Andrew Street-avatar

Very useful & easy to use app that helps me stay safe on the water. After a few near misses in the past i'm glad to have this app at hand.

  79. Chandler Paris-avatar

Does a great job of notifying me when lightning strikes are near and the map gives a great visual representation.

  80. Rupert Brun-avatar

An excellent app which presents the information in a clear intuitive way. It's a lot of fun, too.

  81. Earth Angel-avatar

Brilliant.. Clear, easy to use UI.. Went storm chasing last night and this was spot on!!!

  82. Robin Laroche-avatar

Love this app! Just remember predictions are as the crow flies.

  83. Bob Kramer-avatar

Works great.... seems quite accurate. Maybe a forecast option?

  84. Peter van Beek-avatar

Useful if doing an outdoor activity and fun to watch if indoors.

  85. mikeotherson-avatar

Excellent App! Especially fast when connected to my vehicles 4G connection!

  86. Vernon Tatum-avatar
