approximate location (network-based)

These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine approximately where you are.

precise location (GPS and network-based)
Allows the app to get your precise location using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine where you are, and may consume additional battery power.

This app sux Im not able to use ANY of my hue lights anymore, I have no control of them whatsoever. What happened??? I use to love my lights now they are unusable and not worth ALL THE MONEY I SPENT ON THEM this is absolutely ludicrous. WHAT A TOTAL WASTE OF GOOD MONEY

  2. Ken Ponech-avatar

Even bought a new bridge... still can't connect

  3. Hi-avatar

    Works ok 4 me

  4. Roel Cools-avatar

    Works as it should

  5. Mike S-avatar

Was a great app. I have issues with them bullying me into using the new app. This app is much better than the new one. But now they have ruined the alarm option in another bullying attempt to make me "move on". Bullying is for losers and apparently Phillips Hue.

  6. Jim McArdle-avatar

This whatever you call it (app???) is about as terrible an application can be. Must have need developed by a near humanoid, but I am not sure exactly the capabilities of chimpanzees. It's editing capabilities result in scene deletions if you are not careful, and if you attempt to add more lights, the 'app' constantly turn off the new lamps after they are added. Do not waste valuable memory loading this on your phone.

  7. Kyle Verry-avatar

What the hell?!!!! You jerks promised you wouldn't update the app, but you did and TOOK OUT FUNCTIONALITY! For God's sake. What is wrong with you people?! I paid well over $1500 for my system and all 51 of my lights and this is what I get?!

  8. Luka Bencich-avatar

The update sucks! I had all my scenes and stuff on my old phone and now, on the new I have nothing! I can't copy all the scenes and sincerely I'm pissd off!

  9. Nadeem Remtulla-avatar

    Nadeem Remtulla

All of a sudden my lights keep turning on in the middle of the night or really any time after I turn them off in the day even! What's going on!? Please fix asap!!!

  10. Consuelo Helbling-avatar

    Consuelo Helbling

It was working then just stopped can't get the 3rd light to stop blinkung.

  11. Sean Yee guan-avatar

When I sign in account correctly but I cannot open this application when in outside when I'm in connect to the wi-fi at my home it will be works I do not know what happened maybe you'll need to do some update by the way I using Samsung Note 9 it cannot be connected

  12. Eric Brock-avatar

When I use the widget it just says cannot connect to bridge. If I open the app it's fine. Fix the widget for the galaxy 8 active and I'll change the rating

  13. Angie-avatar

Works well for turning lights on and off but I can't figure out how to set any timers. I guess support is non-existent because they ignore my emails for help.

  14. Jessica Bauer-avatar

Bridge connection doesn't work on widget. Takes way to long to connect to bridge when app is launched. Switching to a different Hue app

  15. James Webb-avatar

App refuses to log in through Google

  16. Shawn W-avatar

It's better than version 2. Way better.

  17. David Clarke-avatar

Thanks for bringing the old widget back!

  18. robert cox-avatar

    Not user friendly

  19. David Nicholas-avatar

Warning DO NOT update the app the new update removes scene sharing. I managed to get a previous version of the app off my old phone and can still get my scenes back. Philips say this is for security. I think just another attempt to force onto gen 2 app. Why make a new app that removes functionality? Gen 1 allows scenes to be set across rooms and with only some bulbs

  20. Noel Thomas-avatar

Come ON Philips! Don't lock editability of Alarms when you THINK(misguidedly) another device or app created them. I've sent multiple emails to support about every bug I've come across, this being one of them, and not one of these bugs has been acknowledged or addressed. Im using 3rd party apps due to better app design, which have no problem editing these "locked" alarms. Dev team, don't drop support for this app. The product is expensive, and I'm NOT using your gen 2 app. If its "time to move on" as you say, I'll stick with All4Hue. EDIT: UPDATE AFTER SAYING THERE WON'T BE ONE, AND ALARMS ARE STILL "DEVICE" LOCKED!! %$$%#@!!! Give us an app that DOESN'T treat us like idiots.

  21. Celeste C-avatar

What did you people do to my EXPENSIVE light system????? These freaking apps don't support my gen 1 bridge anymore??? And this is a gen one app??!??!!! Time to move on. Up yours!

  22. Tim Davies-avatar

DO NOT UPDATE!!!! Removes scene sharing and thereby removes functionality

  23. Sea Hill-avatar

Kinda terrible compared to the 3rd party 1s

  24. Brian Flores-avatar

This is much more better than the second generation app. It's a shame that the developers stop working on this.

  25. Suzanne LaFleur-avatar

    Suzanne LaFleur

I've tried the "new" app twice, months apart, have deleted it twice in favor of this one. I use my Hue as an alarm clock his one gives me far more control over what color(s) I wake up to, and whether or not I want a fade-in

  26. Tara तारा-avatar

    Tara तारा

This is the good one, the new one SUCKS. Useless. Nearly useless, glad I found the old one.

  27. adam trefry-avatar

Faster since update. Now when press back to exit app it doesn't ask you to exit. Sometimes it's slow to respond to light change but stuff works, need option for strobe light & hockey game connect so it flashes red when your team scores, I have 15 bulbs & 3 light stripes 1 of which is the plus and they all work great ●update app force closes! will not open anymore ●

  28. Gary Farr-avatar

Still never than the new version. It's simpler than the new version and the sleep timer is real useful.

  29. A Google user-avatar

I was surprised to see how user friendly the app is. The color schemes are pretty cool also.

  30. Jeff-avatar

I want this app back! Much better then the replacement.

  31. Dave Cartwright-avatar

    Dave Cartwright

This app is so much better than the one that replaced it. I use this app, not the second generation one.

  32. Jon Towler-avatar

This works alot better than the new app

  33. Joseph Rosado-avatar

  34. Felix Valencia-avatar

I don't know what everyone else is talking about but I had a nice experience with this version so far. I can control the lights on my 4g from anywhere with just a 2-3 sec delay, doesn't forget my bridge. The only thing I wish it had was a automation mode to smoothly trasition to differents colors or specifically shades of the same color, Or even a slow pulse effect. That would be awesome. I would pay 5 bucks for a professional automation version of this app

  35. David H. Mason-avatar

The first thing this app should do is enable turning lights on and off. But it consonantly forgets about the bridge. So when you want to turn lights on our off it doesn't work. I wrote a simple script that hasn't forgotten these settings but software developed by Phillips does. This is lack of attention to detail. Obviously Phillips does not have it together

  36. D.L. L.-avatar

This was the best application. The presets are super customizable and very user friendly. Operating the lights away from home is nearly impossible with the other iterations. It was an nice all inclusive app. Geofencing works well. Scheduling is smooth and consistent. So much is left out with the second gen. The scenes are my favorite.

  37. Kris Anderson-avatar

With each new revision or leap in versions alarms and timers become uneditable. They state, This alarm was created with a different app. Frankly I dont give a damn. The app, no matter the version should and MUST be able to edit or delete any and all alarms and timers created be any and all apps. Now on to the next thing, I am running Android 5.x, the Gen 2 app states it runs on 4+. 5 is still greater than 4, right?

  38. A Google user-avatar

Geofencing stopped working, app says not connected to the cloud account, which it is because I can't log in again after logging in the first time, unless I sign out again. New version of the app is terrible. How is this still the best smart bulb system out there ?

  39. A Google user-avatar

Now it just crashes immediately. Still I'm giving it two stars instead of a one-star I gave for the new app because I actually use this app and it sort of worked... Sort of. The people responsible for this deplorable piece of garbage should be shamed in a public forum on live streaming media.

  40. Trevor Counceller-avatar

    Trevor Counceller

Have been holding on to this for a while as a "good enough" app, even after buying several third party ones. Nougat broke it...onward to "progress" and the low rated "2nd gen" app. R.I.P.

  41. Mike Andrews-avatar

I've loved my Hue setup and this app for years. I upgraded my Nexus 9 to Android Nougat. Now the Hue app crashes on start and is unusable. Luckily I have other Android devices like my Nexus 6 and a Samsung Galaxy Pro 12.2 to add and control my Hue lights. The OnSwitch app works fine. PLEASE FIX!

  42. Jeevanand Kuharaj-avatar

    Jeevanand Kuharaj

Had the new version and now switched back to this because it is less buggy. What a shame Philips products were once masterpieces but now you can't tell them from no name brands apart. I won't replace my lamps once they fail. It's not worth it.

  43. Kenn-avatar

I don't know what ppl are complaining about. Not enough functionality? They made the api open for a reason: so indi devs could jump in and drive each other to compete. This drives innovation. For a basic app to control a few lights and schedules, this is nice and simple. Don't bother upgrading to their latest Hue app though. They dropped almost all functionality for some reason. It's literally half the app that this old one is.

  44. David Mentz-avatar

If you have downloaded the latest app and hate it, get this. It is (slightly) less frustrating.

  45. Jeffrey Applebaum-avatar

    Jeffrey Applebaum

5 hrs working on getting basic on/off to work with Alexa. Numerous pitfalls. Does work on my upgraded netgear AC router. A hard reset to factory default helped also. Bottom of the Hue bridge small pin hole & a paperclip. If more than 1 person setting up Alexa, will create downstream confusion. Best to have one name only for set up. Better entering serial numbers for light bulbs. Keep bridge physically close to bulbs. Ether net cable bridge to extender. Good luck.Jeff Applebaum

  46. Adi Dutta-avatar

Looks better than original app. Even less functional than previous app. Hope they improve this app. It's the only thing that lets the product down IMO.

  47. Brian F-avatar

It doesn't work real well unless you are connected to the same Wi-Fi as the hub. Can you make it possible to have a device connect to the hub thru the internet so I don't have to be connected to my Wi-Fi with my phone to use it?

  48. ravin hurhangee-avatar

    ravin hurhangee

Worked well at start , but constant problems, £1,800 on bulbs, useless without a decent quality reliable app, THANK GOD FOR "HUE PRO" &"ONSWITCH" ,quality apps regularly updated.

  49. Robert Rogier-avatar

Friends, Androidians, fellow app users, lend me your attention I come to mourn Philips Hue, not to praise him. With great sorrow must I tell you that, Philips Hue, first of his name, has left this digital plane and entered the digital hereafter. He was a kindly app and usable by all. There are more flamboyant, user friendly apps, but none were Hue 1. His brother, Hue II, who this author dares call Poo, who now sits on the yet un-cold throne of Philips, did watch our beloved Hue 1 e'ne to the very threshold of death. When, Hue 1, no longer able to even get up and show his familiar self to our eyes, he dids't cry out for help, but none was't proff'd. Thus, slain by those whom do shortly dids't swear their n'er ending devotion and aid, Hue 1 was't slain. Then dids't Poo ascend to the place that, by all rights shoulds't been his brother's, namely the throne of the house Philips. And so we must now bid to our former friend adieu and goodbye. Goodnight sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. May Poo e're improve or find the same fate as was't giv'n his brother.

  50. Borrego Bob-avatar

I see a lot of bad reviews, especially on the Version 2 app. V2 would not install on any of my 5 Android devices which was odd but Version 1 installed just fine and has all the features I want. I find it easy to use and full featured including Themes, Timers, etc. Setup was easy...I have an Amazon Echo Dot which works great with the Hue system and requires TWO steps to get full functionality: Step 1- Installing the Phillips Hue app first (Version 1 for me) was easy and straightforward is necessary if you want to change the names of the lights, create ON/OFF timers and setup Theme for individual bulb brightness for different uses. Step 2 - Ask the Echo Dot to "Discover Devices" initiates the remaining step, once found, you can proceed to use your Echo to control the custom lighting configurations you created in the Hue app. As I mentioned, V1 is the only version that works on my phone, an Huawei Ascend Mate 2. That was initially a bit maddening. The path I took to successfully install the "Working" app was to use the link from the Instructions in the Phillips Hue box, that guided me to Version 1 and the rest is history. I took one star due to limited compatibility.

  51. Reuel Nash-avatar

Someone's grand vision got in the way of good, simple user interface. And now the program fails on startup every time.

  52. Igor Maric-avatar

Flaky. Nice concept, but dreadful software. New version seems to have been designed by a complete idiot.

  53. Stian Thorgersen-avatar

    Stian Thorgersen

This version is significantly better than the new version. Please please please continue to maintain and improve this version. If not please open source it and hopefully someone picks it up and maintains it. Phillips - Hues are great, but the new app is broken. Keep this version please.

  54. William Cunningham-avatar

    William Cunningham

The Home and Away features have never worked since I installed the app on its release. I can go on and on but it's obvious the people who wrote this app don't use Hue...

  55. Derek Antosiek-avatar

I can actually rename my lights in this one lol but seriously Hue has some of the worst software engineers around good God.

  56. Peter Berg-avatar

This app is the one to use. It's simple, has an intuitive interface and really promotes scene creativity. Hue version 2 sadly, does not.

  57. Andy Lovell-avatar

App doesn't load after denying permission to unnecessary private contents of phone, I believe this is against 6.0 rules. Next, app overall isn't very special, fix problems for 3-4 stars.

  58. Brett Smith-avatar

So far this app has been my lifeline, from shutting the lights off when I forget to turning them back on when I get home, this app has served me so well. The scene creation is easy enough and the scene sync helps soooo much. Much better then the gen 2 app

  59. Daniel-avatar

Gen 2's location services don't work yet and it offers far less customization for both scenes and alarms. I'll take my chances with no support for as long as it takes for them to fix the new app.

  60. Joshua Johnson-avatar

App basic and very glitchy. Hasn't been fixed for months but love my 3 lights!

  61. Luke Goegan-avatar

Lasts about 15 seconds before crashing, used to be great now unusable.

  62. Frjim T-avatar

If u have 2 separate hues... U constantly have to reset it... God forbid that a small company like Phillips make arrangements for that

  63. Xacobe Vilas G-avatar

Bridge disconnects every day!! Almost the same happens with login information. Renders automation features useless.

  64. Matthew Fifer-avatar

I have a Samsung S7 edge and this app crashes soon after I open it up, every time. Please fix this issue.

  65. josh Patrice-avatar

Keep this app. The new one isn't as good and is missing features from V1

  66. Austin Kitchen-avatar

It won't link to the bridge after it finds it, no matter how many times you press the button.

  67. Chris Wedgwood-avatar

Doesn't run. A shame because the new application is even worse.

  68. Guido Liguori-avatar

Why have you stopped this app from working. It isn't brilliant but so much better than the newer version.

  69. Andy Müller-avatar

Might not be the most beautiful app ever made but at least works as it is supposed to.

  70. iutaro girotto-avatar

    Read title

  71. Phillip Buster-avatar

Doesn't work on Nougat at all anymore. The app is continually stuck in a crash loop. If I uninstall the app, it works until I need to edit something and then it crashes again. Basically on Nougat it's nothing more than a glorified light switch...

  72. Gordon Giddings-avatar

    Gordon Giddings

Extremely poor app support since Philips sold off the lighting division. Will not make future investments in this company (not the same from before). App keeps crashing after Hue Bridge updated a while ago. Still not fixed months later.

  73. A Google user-avatar

Can no longer open the app. It just immediately crashes.

  74. A Google user-avatar

But better than your new app... Ugh. Also the latest hub update broke my app, cool.

  75. ese mas loko-avatar

Really wish i hadnt spend my hard earn money on 200 dollar yellow lightbulbs cuz this wont find my bridge on note 5 or iphone 6s+ or my ipad since ur crapy update

  76. Jonathan Hayward-avatar

    Jonathan Hayward

It's a bit flaky with scenes, but at least the geofencing works, which it doesn't in the 2nd gen app. Organisation isn't as good in this app as it is the 2nd gen. It's a real pain having to use two apps.

  77. Draki McGrother-avatar

    Draki McGrother

50 percent of the times the app is opened it crashes. and once that happen it won't get to work again until the whole phone is rebooted. frustrating and disgusting

  78. William Welch-avatar

I will never buy Philips products again if this gen 1 app goes away.

  79. Tor Helgesen-avatar

I have to push the bridge button every time I use this app. That is not remotely controlled.

  80. Steve G-avatar

Way better than the new app, I hope they don't drop support for it

  81. Anna Snow-avatar

I have a Samsung and I have to delete the app every time I want to use it. Horrible and frustrating!

  82. Clyde Gale-avatar

Got it linked to the TV rear ambilight, using a Raspberry Pi, great for movies

  83. Joonas Kossi-avatar

Better than the gen 2 app but still could be a lot better.

  84. Eric S-avatar

Best Hue app from all free and paid for apps. Very customizable and simple enough features to really make it useful. A LOT of appreciation for this app.

  85. Steve Marsh-avatar

Has some basic fun features and - the marshmallow update issue seems to be working great

  86. Rokas Kontvainis-avatar

    Rokas Kontvainis

I need widget to show my selected lamps current state on or off. So i would know if accidentally turned any of them on and left.

  87. Josh Schinagle-avatar

Very inconsistent when trying to connect to the bridge.

  88. Bryan N.-avatar

Even though I'm logged in I can't use the home and away feature because it says I need to log in... no matter how many times I "log back in" it just keeps asking.

  89. Shannon Baker-avatar

Setup is terrible and not easily transferred.

  90. Ayan Ashraf-avatar

Better than the new one! I had to downgrade to this app after getting my lights.

  91. Jon Paradiso-avatar

I'd give the app four stars based on my experience with it on my phone but for some reason this can't be downloaded on a Pixel C

  92. Ryan Zorzi-avatar

Doesn't work correctly with Android 7.0.

  93. Simon T-avatar

Keeps telling me to update, but not from the play store, then says it has failed every time.

  94. Zia Ruma-avatar

improved! Previous feedback-doesn't light on when arrive most of the times! when needed, app doesn't find bridge! and so on....

  95. Mark Andrews-avatar

Manages to take a fairly simple concept and turn it into an over-engineered, tangled mess

  96. A Google user-avatar

Better than the new app, less user friendly maybe but overall way better.

  97. A Google user-avatar

Better performance than the newer generation

  98. Nick Velthorst-avatar

When I create new scenes, they do not show up in de scenes menu.

  99. Roy van Keulen-avatar

Please change back to old logo. Don't want new app...

  100. Andrew Paul-avatar

This app has so much functionality compared with the new one.
