With the HSL app you can buy tickets for Helsinki region public transport, find the best routes and get targeted traffic information. In addition to tickets, there is also a journey planner in the HSL app. Journey planner tells you e.g. the best route and the ticket, which is needed for the route. In the HSL app, you can also see up-to-date transport information for the areas and lines you have selected.

    "an error occured" while trying to buy a single ticket. I tried again and then again, then again with an another card, still the same message. Guess I'm not paying this time. "An error occured" to whom is that a helpful message to troubleshoot? Am I lacking in data connectivity, in funds on card, something else, is the card provider experiencing issues or is the app provider experiencing issues; we will never know...

    For an app that needs to be used on a daily basis, it's very unstable and slow. Sometimes I had to restart the phone in order to open the app, as it would flash for a second and wouldn't show up anymore. Please also remove the prompt for enabling location services, which appears every time the app starts and came in the recent update.

    Worked okay (not 5-star perfect but usable) up until the latest update in December - now when you click a stop on the route planner to view incoming bus/tram/etc, the popup won't open and you can't view any details for stops, including timetables, etc. Which renders the entire route planner kind of useless if you just want to know when your bus is coming or in general know what number to take.

    There's no reason for using the journey planner in the app, it doesn't come with the filtering options of the website version. The new zones are already in place, but I still can't plan a route according to my ticket type in this app, ridiculous. Not to mention that cancelled times or routes appear in the route planner as if they were running normally!

    Inaccurate bus shedules, needlessly expeensive routes, forgets route search results when in background, often crashes when returning from background, incompatible with HSL's own RFID card platform. ED: And it breaks transitioning from adding a credit card so I can't even buy a 30 day ticket. Awful service!

    Second time you have deleted my account!! Why?? Even though it was recently used. "Please log in again." Annoying! And you can't rely on the ticket machines to work. Huge mistake to fire all of the conductors. Not tourist, or local, friendly at all now.

    This app has lots of bugs. Sometimes buying a ticket would result in an error but both my visa card and phone number were charged because I tried to switch the payment methods. Retrying to buy the ticket only incurs further charges without a ticket! Beware everyone!

    The app should indicate why I cannot select Zone. Reproduce: Be student, try purchasing day ticket with Student selected displays no Zones and gives no error. Even though students can't buy single tickets, this is confusing.

    I can't pay with DNA prepaid or elisa prepaid. I was using the data service from same sim card. I had enough airtime, no vpn, gps enabled and gave permission. totally useless, I prefer old sms tickets which were much more efficient. you can just send verification code to my sim card from app and by entering I can pay with the sim card balance.

    Frustrating experience. Tried to register and had to enter my country of residence, the Netherlands (for the phone number), but the list goes blank and never shows the second half of the list of countries. However I tried to buy a ticket and on this dialog I could enter the country without problems, so got it working. Hope the rest goes smoother. (Samsung S10)

    The app doesn't open half the time and just shows a white screen. Really bothersome when you're trying to quickly catch some transport and especially in winter when you want to keep phone time in the freezing weather to a minimum to give your battery at least a chance to survive the trip - which you now have to, because they'll fine you if your phone is dead, even if you'd have a season ticket, right?

    The app is not opening for a week now. Everyone I open it closes itself. I deleted it and reinstalled, and same stuff. One it opened, asked for location permission and that's it. No ticket option was opening, no map page was loading and now again just closes without getting really open at first place... Pleeeease fix the bug as I would really like to use maps for the routes and purchase tickets...! 😢

    07/2019: Like it, but not very reliable - I was checking other apps and then came back to hsl app when bus came and the screen stayed white. It was a bit embarrassing because the driver would not let me in the bus. I had to restart the phone (maybe clear memory option would have helped too) and with my oldish phone it took forever. EDIT 19.11.2019: keeps crashing when going through different tabs, tried to turn wifi and location off. Worked for a small moment until it did not. Stay on one tab.

    I have been using this app a long time with no problems, though traditional travel card has still been my primary payment method. Frankly speaking, I was intending to come to review this few weeks ago and give 5/5, because of its nicely implemented route planner. Instead, this has now become the most costly app I have ever trusted: I entered the tram but couldn't use my travel card as the tram's card reader was out of service. Oh well, I could always use this app... How wrong could I possibly had been! Ticket inspectors stepped in at the same moment. I just could not launch the app (and it was then the most recent version). Just kept getting the message "HSL keeps stopping". So, I got the inspection fee just for the reason I had this non-working app, and I was trying to purchase my ticket with it. Other passengers just pointed the faulty card reader, as I should have done as well. No other passenger had to pay the inspection fee. I would advise avoiding this app at all cost. It even wasn't enough that I cleared apps cache, restarted the phone AND had the travel card with me. TLTR; just by having this app, you seem to be liable that it is working. Even if you are carrying your travel card with you as well.

    "Avoid walking" in route planner is highly inefficient. Bare "old fashioned" timetables for a specific route number hard to find. Even after the HSL reply I find it hard to find the ”olf fashioned” time tables where all the alternative suffixes (letters) are merged in the same time table (e.g. lines 244 and 244K).

    Very mixed feelings When it works it works, but daily crashes are annoying. If you leave the app open for the day and open it later it gives the whitescreen bug and need to be forceshut.. Also sometimes it just keeps crashing over and over the only solution ive found is to uninstall and reinstall it again.. Tested on Oneplus6T android 9.0 OxygenOD 9.0. 17

    Took a bit of fighting to get to work, can't use a custom DNS server or a VPN to pay with mobile, also the account creation was quirky. I got it to work, though. Otherwise works well. But do expect to be in touch with the support.

    If even a recipe program allows fingerprint authentication why HSL requires writing a long password Every time I try to buy a ticket?!? While standing on platform, With freezing, snow and gloves, This Does Not Work! Buying in advance is a hazard, trains may be inoperative again with no warning from HSL.

    The updates are consistent and improve the app, but it still has problems when buying tickets (only reason I use the app) bying the ticket takes approx 4-7 seconds and it doesn't buy it everytime. As this is the main function of the app, it should work consistently and faster.

    The app is good and functional, times are accurate, but would be good to be able to buy ticket extensions for the physical travel card within the app, also it logs you out from time to time, but you only notice when you need to buy a ticket and by that time probably you are in a rush to stop remembering the password, some notification when your login session expires would be good, keep up the good work!

    Amazing app, it's getting better and better! Small request, would be nice to be able to extend zones for particular single tickets as well. It has happened to me that I bought a ticket for my relative or friend and then would realise that I need to include one more zone, unfortunately the app doesn't allow me to do so, I have to buy another ticket.

    The app does what its supposed to, but not without major issues in usability: if the application is closed with the back button, it will display a white screen upon next startup. This white screen cannot be closed with the back button at all, requiring the app to be force closed after every use to function properly.

    The app lags and crashes fairly often, it is not dependable for purchasing tickets in a rush. Multiple times I had to either delay the bus from starting or buy a ticket from the driver since the app didn't want to extend my ticket or buy a single ticket. Furthermore, Error messages do not explain much, and -the icing on the cake- although purchasing a ticket fails, you still get charged multiple times. Is there a way to refund the multiple tickets bought but were unusable?

    When ever you get an error there is only a general "An error has occurred" message. Makes it almost impossible to know what the error was. Whenever the error happens during purchase you still get charged as of the transaction was successful.

    I just got and 80€ fine because of this app. I arrived to the station a few minutes before the train arrived, I tried to buy my ticket in the app and it all seemed normal, I made it to the payment screen and tapped on the payment button. Then the previously green button just greyed out, I assumed it was because it would take a minute for the payment to be processed, no error message came, just the greyed out button, by then the train arrived and I jumped in. The grey button persisted and I tried to start the process again, to the same result: the paymet button would just grey out and I had no ticket, I tied to do it multiple times to no avail. Then the inspectors came and they could not care less about the app not working properly. They said it is not HSL responsibility and I got the fine. I have no idea what went wrong with the app, but whatever it was, I could have tried to buy my ticket another way if I had a warning or an error message, but all I had was the misleading grey button. It is either a major design flaw or a very costly bug. I will make a complain to the consumers agency for this case.

    Sucks!! 90% of the time hits me with 'an error occurred' when trying to confirm payment. No other explanation. Would at least be good to know why it failed. Uprofessional end result. It's hard to believe this was stress-tested before release. I appreciate many IT staff are pressured by ignorant management and unrealistic schedules and budgets, and I suspect this was the case here. Test by Production is unacceptable. If this sums up the situation, please feel free to kick some management arse.

    It took me a half hour to buy a 30 day ticket. I registered netbank, student status and a payment card, all went fine. Then when it came to payment.. 'there is an error'. Nowhere does it say what the error is, how to fix it, nor who to contact. Then I tried to sign in and out, and the app didn't accept my password, so changed my password to what it should have been, but that was the same as the previous password (which didn't work!). Now changed password, and now it works?

    This app and the service behind it have frequent serious issues. Often the ticket purchase does not work, or if you have, say, a 30-day ticket, you cannot access it through the app. Even a failed ticket purchase regularly charges your card, and it can take days for them to return the balance where it was. The terms of service are outrageous, with HSL taking no responsibility of their problems. You're much better of sticking to old-fashioned ways of buying tickets.

    The app is mostly decent, but there are a couple of annoyances. Like that you often loose your journey plan if you close the app and that it is impossible to buy the season ticket, I have tried tens of times on different days with different paymentmethods and always end up with an error. The single tickets work well most of the time and I like that you can buy the tickets for a number of people with the same phone, though it'd be nice if you could choose the number of same type of tickets to buy

    I'm here for a 1 week holidays and the App is not working at all... it even displays an error (when the news feed works which is not always the case) that the ticket service is not working. Given that there are no other practical alternatives I'm very disappointed. It seems Helsinki has a good public transportation system too bad I cannot experience it.

    It's so laggy and unreliable. I couldn't buy ticket when I was going off to work no matter how I tried, the screen just said error. So I had to pay the 4e fare on the bus. Then later when the app starts working again, I see on my bank that I was charged twice 2.8e for the ticket I never got!! So all in all I paid 9.5e for a busride that should have only cost 2.8 . Seriously scandalous. DO NOT USE THIS MALFUNCTIONING APP THAT WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY!!!!

    Would give 0 stars if I could. Multiple problems logging in and getting password reset link sent. And when I finally get in, it needs to confirm my phone number but it has the wrong number typed in. When I try to change it, it says MY number is already in use. Yeah obviously it is my phone number. Totally worthless app, I can't even purchase tickets now.

    i have been using this app every time i come to helsinki, purchasing daily passes or one time ticket, worked as a charm, until today. It kept complaining i was not on the internet, i cant update my credit card, cant update my phone number, and of course cant buy tickets. i first cleared the cache, then uninstalled and installed the app again, to no avail. since its weekend i have no app support but to find kiosks to buy tickets, what a bombet!

    Update 20180929: developers updated the app, and I can buy tickets from abroad now (with timezone set to Finland). Thanks! // Original post: Despite all permissions given, the app cannot check the time of the phone. Thus, it prevents you from buying tickets.. A solution seems to change timezone on your smartphone to Helsinki time. Didn't impress the app though, continued not feasible to buy tickets. Unfortunately not helpful for my upcoming Helsinki trip this way..

    Don't rely on this app for tickets or transport status information. Frequent major outages during workdays make your commute or trip a gamble. Get a stored value card instead. Those seem to work reliably. During outages you might get charged for a ticket that never gets delivered to the app. Eventually the charge gets cancelled, but it's impossible to match charges to issued tickets without contacting support.

    For me it was not possible to buy a ticket as the app told me to check the time of my phone (which was correct). It is also very unpleasant that you have to pay a higher price at the bus driver. I understand this measure if you want to force/convince costumers to use the app, but than the app should also do its job.

    Fetched my student status nicely, but unfortunately it's entirely useless when regardless of the payment option I choose, the purchase for the seasonal ticket will fail. I was pretty excited about replacing my HSL card with this but I guess not this time. If you guys can fix this within a reasonable timeframe, I'll gladly adjust my score because otherwise the app seems decent! Edit: the bandaid fix worked! But I suppose you already know that a "fix" like this isn't acceptable

    The app almost never works. Payment errors happens almost weekly and the payment system is down for hours. Sometimes the menus don't work, I can't select the ticket type, save my information, etc. Very often the news feeds on the home tab are just showing the spinner. I have so far had to reset the app completely twice and the payment history was lost both times.

    Terrible app! Its slow, power consuming and not user friendly. Google maps ironically work much better for finding routes. Worse thing is that app will occasionally malfunction and HSL takes no responsibility in helping users to get into the public transport even if they have a purchased seasonal ticket. Terrible experience and customer care!

    unbelievably poor, just charged my card for 2 times €6.40, NO ticket though! So €12.80 out of my pocket and missed my train!! initially could not select my zone (ABCD), then got used the router optuon to get the zone and proceeded to payment and it took 2 payments but gave no ticket. now going to have shell out for a paper ticket for another €6.40 - after missing my train!! DO NOT USE!!!

    Full of buggs. When it works it is very practical. But most of the time you will be forced to uninstall and reinstall the app, create a new account, reenter all the credit card info and so on. Something that take half an hour so you will miss your train.

    Dear HSL! Why the app displays error message "We are unable to verify the time on your phone because ther is no network connection" instead of the ticket purchase page however all other application can use the mobile data? Can you please fix it fast, I can't buy my 7day ticket.

    The screen is white and the app hangs continuously, I sure hope I do not need to pay any fees due to issues with the app. Today there were apparently also some server issues. Would be great if it worked, it really needs to be more reliable.

    The most important feature, buying tickets, is a joke that just doesn't work. For the single ticket the payment doesn't work half the time while the 30-day tiecket has never worked. Making payments through an app shouldn't be anything new or special so make it work.

    Useless piece of junk. The app asks for my postal code but doesn't allow me to continue after giving it, fails to show any timetables because it can't figure out what time it is and keeps insisting that I have no Internet connection.

    It's quicker to go to the bus stop that to work out the app. It doesn't remember same old stops, it clears itself at the drop of a hat and DOESN'T off all options. It wants you to use the metro and walk 2-3km evert day.

    This is terrible. This new app is so much slow. It doesn't run smoothly on Android phone. The screen always freeze everytime I need to buy new ticket. Then I have to restart many times. It usually takes more than 10 mins just to complete a purchase. Additional feedback: Thanks so much for updating it. Now it works much better and the purchasing runs smoothly without any problem.

    It doesn't work now when i stop using it for 1 week it always say that ther is a problem buying the ticket saying its due to vpn but i dont have any vpn I try to redownloud it many times it doesn't work it just kept saying about the vpn thing.

    This app is painfully slow and unresponsive. It takes too many clicks and way too much time to get a ticket. Because of this app I missed several buses and got into awkward situations with bus drivers and ticket inspectors, even when I had the ticket. It takes 15 seconds to simply open the app. The previous app, without maps and routes was much faster.

    It's extremely convenient but the app keeps freezing all the time, I have an Android device. Have to force stop or restart to get it working again.

    The previous version of the app was much better and smooth. This new app is very slow that if I have to have ticket ready before getting in the train then I have to miss the train. Also it is pointless that you implement new things such as American Express way of paying when adding a debit card doesn't even work. Would love the adding of debit card be fixed.

    Unreliable. Get a physical hsl card as a backup, because this app crashes all the time. The interface is great and i really hope they get it working better soon.

    Constant errors occur while trying to purchase a ticket. While failing to buy via this app this costs me additional money as buying from driver is more expensive. Disappointed.

    Unable to buy a season ticket. The button to confirm identity does not open the link, rendering the app useless for my intended purpose.

    Several times I've given the feedback that having only 1-7 days and 30 days options are not enough and thus, one might need lesser or greater than 30 days depending on incoming public holidays, vacations and even weekends. That being said, I suggested to have being able to freely select the dates (Start and end dates) instead. But, all the time I got the same answer that "30 days is the most popular option & because of that we only implemented this." Once that's implemented, I'll update my rating

    Please test the application with a little ng ticket history. Seems after frequent usage the UI slows down significantly. Trying to buy the 2nd ticket takes almost a minute as you have to wait to be able to flip to left. UI is unresponsive, and when you push a button several times it queues these, it is visible the process starts as many times as the button starts. Please check typical mobile app testing guidelines!

    I am travelling from overseas. I have no SIM card in my phone. HSL has me stuck in a loop, even with my Visa card details entered first, it makes a phone number mandatory, and sends me a code to a phone number I cannot access. No way out. Even weirder is that my spouse was not sent a code to his (out of range) phone number. So he can use the app and I can't. Does the business really need to send a code if payment details are provided, or if so, why not an email option for code?
