Try the free Family Link parental controls app from Google. Whether your children are adolescents or young adults, the Family Link app lets you set digital ground rules remotely from your own device to help guide them as they learn, play and explore online. For children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your country), Family Link also lets you create a Google Account for your child that's like your account, with access to most Google services.

With Family Link parental controls, you can:

Guide them towards appropriate content

• View their app activity − Not all screen time is the same. Help your child make healthy decisions about what they decide to do on their Android device, with activity reports displaying how much time they’re spending on their favourite apps. You can see daily, weekly or monthly reports.
• Manage their apps − Handy notifications let you approve or block apps that your child wants to download from the Google Play Store. You can also manage in-app purchases and hide specific apps on their device, all remotely from your own device.
• Feed their curiosity − It can be hard to decipher which apps are right for your child, so Family Link shows you teacher-recommended apps on Android that you can add directly to their device.

Keep an eye on screen time

• Set limits − It’s up to you to decide the right amount of screen time for your child. Family Link lets you set time limits and a bedtime for their supervised devices, so you can help them find a good balance.
• Lock their device − Whether it’s time to go and play outside, have dinner or just spend time together, you can remotely lock a supervised device whenever it’s time to take a break.

See where they are

• It’s helpful to be able to find your child when they’re on the go. You can use Family Link to help locate them as long as they’re carrying their Android device.

Important information

• Family Link’s tools vary depending on your child’s device. See a list of compatible devices at families.google.comfamilylinksetup
• While Family Link helps you manage your child's purchases and downloads from Google Play, they won't need approval to install app updates (including updates that expand permissions), apps that you have previously approved or apps that have been shared in Family Library. Parents should regularly review their child’s installed apps and app permissions in Family Link.
• You should carefully review the apps on your child’s supervised device and disable those that you don’t want them to use. Note that you may not be able to disable some pre-installed apps.
• To see the location of your child or teenager's device, it must be powered on, recently active and connected to the Internet.
• Teacher-recommended apps are only available on Android devices in the US and to parents of children of certain ages.
• While Family Link provides tools to manage your child’s online experience, it doesn't make the Internet safe. Instead, it is intended to give parents choices about how their children use the Internet and to encourage conversations about Internet use.

This has worked well for over a year. After the last update, my child began getting error messages that something went wrong. As soon as I removed the Family Link management of that account, the errors stopped.

Love this app so much! I can monitor what my child is doing on thier device, set restrictions, control what apps they can and cant download. I can even lock their device with just a single tap and set a time limit. I can be free of worry while my child is on YouTube and the app store. There is way to many things in the online world that children at very young ages shouldn't. Im so glad Google made this app.

Its a good app to monitor activities on your kids phone however there are many things they must improve on. Like, the parents should be able to listen the call recordings, they should be given the control to access the photos and videos of children. Also it should give the access to the social apps on the "monitored phones"

It's an awesome app for you to control your child or children's phones & to know what they are doing at all time and where they are at all times. I love this app.

I used this apps 2 years ago and it was working fine. Now as I installed it on my daughter's device, it keeps asking me to sign my daughter on her device everyday. This is making it difficult to control her device. Resetting device will take a lot of time, 1 mistake in resetting, will lose every important file on the device. This is very annoying.

Works nice but need the bonus time to work based on usage not immediately. Sometimes you want to give your kids an extra hour to use in the evening but bonus time is applied in real time which has no real practicality.

This app has been a nightmare. Every time that my child wanted to make a purchase I had to get into the settings and unsupervise his account, because it stopped allowing me to change the settings in Google Play and only gave me error codes. When I uninstalled the app because it wasn't working properly, Google deleted his email account that he had for years. Google has to be able to do better than this!

This is a great way to monitor kids tech use and show them exactly how much time they are spending on each app. We have educational apps which they have to use for set periods each day as part of their home study. It is great that I don't have to stand over them to see if it has been done, I simply check the app. It would be great if the user could see their own use for the current day, not just the history. Parents and kids would both benefit from that additional feature.

I would never use this app again. It is impossible to edit, frustrating to use, super restrictive at a parental admin level and when my child got a new device it stopped me doing a factory reset on the old device. To enable a factory reset I had to remove child from the Family Link which meant the Google account was deleted FROM EVERYWHERE - so before I could do this I had to set up a new account and transfer everything to the new that was linked to the old account!! DON'T USE!

Unnecessary corporate control. Created by helicopter parents or ones that don't have a good relationship with thier kids. If I want to set up a phone for my kid, I should be able to and also be able to choose what I monitor them with. You have enough market control with android i prefer this over apple, which is worse than you, but you are forcing me now to link with your app when maybe I want to use another. You are not responsible for what my children watch, I am, so bug off with this app
