Try the free Family Link parental controls app from Google. Whether your children are adolescents or young adults, the Family Link app lets you set digital ground rules remotely from your own device to help guide them as they learn, play and explore online. For children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your country), Family Link also lets you create a Google Account for your child that's like your account, with access to most Google services.

With Family Link parental controls, you can:

Guide them towards appropriate content

• View their app activity − Not all screen time is the same. Help your child make healthy decisions about what they decide to do on their Android device, with activity reports displaying how much time they’re spending on their favourite apps. You can see daily, weekly or monthly reports.
• Manage their apps − Handy notifications let you approve or block apps that your child wants to download from the Google Play Store. You can also manage in-app purchases and hide specific apps on their device, all remotely from your own device.
• Feed their curiosity − It can be hard to decipher which apps are right for your child, so Family Link shows you teacher-recommended apps on Android that you can add directly to their device.

Keep an eye on screen time

• Set limits − It’s up to you to decide the right amount of screen time for your child. Family Link lets you set time limits and a bedtime for their supervised devices, so you can help them find a good balance.
• Lock their device − Whether it’s time to go and play outside, have dinner or just spend time together, you can remotely lock a supervised device whenever it’s time to take a break.

See where they are

• It’s helpful to be able to find your child when they’re on the go. You can use Family Link to help locate them as long as they’re carrying their Android device.

Important information

• Family Link’s tools vary depending on your child’s device. See a list of compatible devices at
• While Family Link helps you manage your child's purchases and downloads from Google Play, they won't need approval to install app updates (including updates that expand permissions), apps that you have previously approved or apps that have been shared in Family Library. Parents should regularly review their child’s installed apps and app permissions in Family Link.
• You should carefully review the apps on your child’s supervised device and disable those that you don’t want them to use. Note that you may not be able to disable some pre-installed apps.
• To see the location of your child or teenager's device, it must be powered on, recently active and connected to the Internet.
• Teacher-recommended apps are only available on Android devices in the US and to parents of children of certain ages.
• While Family Link provides tools to manage your child’s online experience, it doesn't make the Internet safe. Instead, it is intended to give parents choices about how their children use the Internet and to encourage conversations about Internet use.

App ChangeLog

  • – Not all screen time is created equally, so Family Link enables parents to set time limits for each individual app or game that their children have on their device.
  • – Parents love that they can set a daily screen time limit, but sometimes children need just a few more minutes. Now, parents can grant more screen time directly from their own device.

requires following permissions on your android device.

precise location (GPS and network-based)
Allows the app to get your precise location using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine where you are, and may consume additional battery power.

view network connections
Allows the app to view information about network connections such as which networks exist and are connected.

find accounts on the device
Allows the app to get the list of accounts known by the phone. This may include any accounts created by applications you have installed.

measure app storage space
Allows the app to retrieve its code, data, and cache sizes

full network access
Allows the app to create network sockets and use custom network protocols. The browser and other applications provide means to send data to the internet, so this permission is not required to send data to the internet.

read the contents of your SD card
Allows the app to read the contents of your SD card.

run at startup
Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the phone and allow the app to slow down the overall phone by always running.

use accounts on the device
Allows the app to request authentication tokens.

prevent phone from sleeping
Allows the app to prevent the phone from going to sleep.

receive data from Internet
Allows apps to accept cloud to device messages sent by the app's service. Using this service will incur data usage. Malicious apps could cause excess data usage.

Most features on Google Family Link is working except for "Filters on Google Chrome" it has not worked since August 2019. My son has been able to visit all unauthorized websites (mostly gaming) even though I had blocked it. I can't access the settings cause it gives an error 500 page cannot be found. Google's tier two team has been working on this since Oct. and it still hasn't been fixed. Due to Covid-19, schools are closed, kids are learning online, Chrome is not safe for kids to use.

  2. Tom Corcoran-avatar

apk This is super and works seamlessly, I wish we had discovered it sooner. The feature of being able to shutdown access to child devices at a set time is fantastic. Has anyone had an issue adding a second Google account to a child device? When we try and add a school account so they can access Google Classroom I get "Couldn't sign in. There was a problem communicating with Google servers, try again later." When Google should have more staff working from home to help all of us they have cut staff :-(

  3. Andrea Heckman-avatar

app Love this app. My 8 year old daughter got a phone for her birthday. This app allows me to monitor what she's downloading and what she's doing. It also allows me to set limits on things and block things when needed. The location function is very accurate. Overall, it's a very useful app to keep your littles safe and know what they're doing!

  4. Thomas Greene-avatar

ios I would rate a 5 star but not until the loophole is fixed.. my child is pretty slick when it comes to technology.. "I've taught my little padawan nicely." She has figured out that removing the battery once her set time limit has been reached that it kinda restarts the time or confuses the app and allows her to go over her time by tremendous amounts. My solution to the problem was to super glue the battery into the phone, but it would be nice for Google to fix this problem.

  5. Scott Matthews-avatar

review This has been a great asset in offering my kids an affordable computer and giving them freedom to access information while managing what content they are viewing. My biggest problem is that the notifications for when my child tries to buy something on Google play do not seem to notify me. I have to know to go into it. That may be a problem with my Galaxy, but I don't think so.

app download The application is great, but I would strongly recommend to allow setting multiple schedules . For example my kid is allowed to play with the tablet for 1 hour during the morning and 1 additional hour on the afternoon. The only way to allow additional 1 hour time during the afternoon is needed to manualy extending the original morning schedule. Most of the time I'm not around and I see the addional schedules very valuable to use. Thanks for all

  7. Justin Cook-avatar

iphone It seems like a great idea, but the limitations are absolutely ridiculous. Once its liked to your child's account you can't remove it until they turn 13 or you DELETE THEIR GOOGLE ACCOUNT! And since its tied to their google account, if they login to a chromebook, it will follow them. This will prevent them from installing extensions...there is NO way around this limitation. These limitations make this app completely useless. Stay as far away from this app as you can.

cost Loving that I can set times for certain apps. When starting the process I asked if my son wanted a password to open his pad like I do my phone, he said yes but has since changed his mind and I can't undo that in the app which is frustrating! Other than that it sends me notifications of what apps he wants to download and I can and extra time if necessary! Also we found set up very difficult- I had to set up a Google account for him on his pad as it wouldn't accept my login I had used.

google family link 2 parents Can not setup Google classroom account on new Chromebook. It works on phone which is no use we need the Chromebook for school. I have tried Google support for 2 hours and nothing works. Instruction are for phones. Keeps asking for parent code even after turning off this feature. I am not getting the notification on my device for code. In conclusion, this app is a pain because it doesn't work with Google classroom accounts and personal accounts.

  10. Ryan Shaffer-avatar

google family link both parents Had a difficult time reinstalling this app. Had to be removed so that Chromebook could be used for school work. After reinstalling, it would only finish on one device and error the other. Finally found out that you have to add the device with the + on the main page. It shouldn't have been that difficult, which is the lower rating. Also don't like where kids can just remove the app if they want, but I'm guessing there was a reason for them to do that

  11. Nathan Filz-avatar

Google has a ways to go on Family Link. The issues on the support forums are rarely responded to directly. This should be where massive amounts of resources are being dumped. When there is a missing feature or it's missing the ability to change a setting within family link, the only option is typically allowing a child to have full access either with the parents profile or by removing the restrictions. That being said, what it does, it does very well. I do trust my family with it.

  12. Kevin McKinney-avatar

Great app to keep track of what your kids are doing. Great to set time limits. Controls can be used to allow certain apps and web pages and require children to gain request to visit certain web pages and download certain apps. great to be able to see their location and their history. Darn kids are too crazy these days, and need a little bit of supervision. We were probably crazy too.

  13. Antonia Branston-avatar

It was all fine until we were told to use Google classroom for her schoolwork while in lockdown. Family Link is stopping us from logging into GC with her school account, so we are having to choose between her being able to do schoolwork on her own device vs being properly safeguarded. This is extra rubbish as they are both google apps designed for kids & should be capable of working together.

  14. Shanon Harvey-avatar

This is an awesome app to use for kids of any age who have a hard time regulating their own phone time. It is s also great for young kids, you can limit their daily time, put a bedtime on it where it locks up during those hours a nd only the parent can unl it, it tracked what they do, they can't download apps without your consent and you can use GPS to see where they are. It is a necessity for all parents to use on their kids phones.

  15. Chelsea Graham-avatar

This is great! Helps me keep track of what my kid downloads and prevents him from things he shouldn't be doing or looking at. I like that he requires my permission to download things or to watch things. I can also keep track of where he is which is essential, especially today!!

  16. Meera Joy-avatar

Now I've full control over his device. I can lock and unlock his device anytime, set overall limit for his screen time, limit for individual apps, bed time etc. And he also knows that the device automatically gets locked once he reaches his limit. No more arguments required to make him switch off the device. And also no app gets installed in his device without parents permission Now I'm totally worry-free that in my family link app, I can monitor how much time he is spending on each app.

  17. Ben M-avatar

Really simple to use once you've set it up. Does take some time to set up initially as there are lots of options to go through. As this was my first time setting up family link I was surprised how long it took (about 20 mins). Now it's done I love how easy it is to use and control content.

  18. Mario Milunović-avatar

You should implement website filtering on system level. My little hacker has found a way to access blocked website through another application. For example, you can access YouTube in Viber app even when YouTube is blocked in Chrome browser. Also, we need option to exclude selected app from any time restriction.

  19. Josh Mandell-avatar

So I do have a I don't like the fact that I cannot let my daughter have Google music it opens up but you can't find any music onI try to login with my account personally and it was still won't let me do that those are things that I think should be change. Some parents probably don't even use that service bc the kid can't have it this. Also bc certain things can't be changed like that I almost concerned make an adult account just for that and I didn't bc it's not worth the risk.

  20. Eduard Boer-avatar

Very good app. Missing some important functionality such as the ability to exclude certain apps from screentime. I would like to exclude YouTube-*music* and WhatsApp. Also the app isn't working on Android TV! Please fix this. I found a bug: child can't turn the alarm off when screentime is over.

  21. Catfish Diver-avatar

Doesn't let me add my child's email . Says something went wong and asks to try again. Eventually was able to get it to work by rebooting both adult and child devices and trying again (4th time). The error message should provide some clues about why it isn't working rather than a forever retry loop. Such a waste of my time.

  22. Václav Brožík-avatar

    Václav Brožík

Completely useless on shared devices like tablets! Family link accounts cannot be added to secondary user profiles on Android devices. This limitation does not make sense as the main reason for Android secondary user profiles (or more limited restricted profiles) is to create them for kids.

  23. Brittney Ortiz-avatar

Love love love this app!!! I love that my daughter can have a cell phone and im not stressing about everything...recently i had to punish my daughter. However with this app, her punishment is now a bedtime on her phone. It will lock at my specified time and open back up just in time for her alarm to go off...really love that everything is easy to use and extreamly customizeable...overall its just am amazing app...

  24. Joanna Schaper-avatar

I like it and most of the flexibilities, but I wish I didn't have to create and then apply to each profile. I would rather have one profile to open on the Chromebook and then each person could use individual email while still under the general web/app restrictions. It is just a lot of extra steps

  25. Fran Kear-avatar

Its ok. I do hate that it messes with youtube kids. It wont let me add a kids acount. Edit: I tried to use the link you posted and it doesnt work. I could not hit send. The app is also not letting me set up google classroom with my email on my kids devices. This is getting to be more frustrating.

  26. Tierra Bundrige-avatar

If there was a 0 for no stars I would choose it. I had to delete all accounts it blocked (me) the parent. I took off all the restrictions, used parent access codes and nothing works. This is ridiculous. When u restrict alot of things you literally cant get by no kind of way.

  27. Lenise Richardson-avatar

    Lenise Richardson

Love it! I am able to manage how long my child is on the phone and her laptop. I can block apps she download. This app shows the location of where y po ur child is when they are logged on their phone or computer. Thanks for coming up with the app.

  28. Chris-avatar

While set up and configuring both kids accounts was easy enough, trying to set up a family payment plan was unintuitive. Spent a few hours trying to figure that out. The reason it is two stars is because google play games does not work with child accounts. Which is annoying, and limits what the kids can do

  29. Tay Bock Ann-avatar

Still got an imperfection on this app. For multiple devices on same child account, is it possible to have an option to select the device that needs to control. For game/App downloading, even for restrictive option 3+ and below, could it also control with parent authentication? Not let children download the game/app by themselves?

  30. kevin gonzales-avatar

Its real easy to control how my children interact with technology. I enjoy being able to monitor times on certain applications and set a bed time schedule. Being able to look at current location of the device gives me peace of mind.

  31. jarvisrk-avatar

So Restrictive - this app has potential but is so frustrating as google retains control over everything. Parents can't allow children the use of YouTube or download paid apps. Google limits the countries where certain apps are avaiable (family pay, kids youtube) but doesn't mention this prior to you setting up family link. If you want to delete family link your children lose their google accounts completely. DON'T DOWNLOAD THIS APPLICATION.

  32. Willis Todd-avatar

Great for keeping kids safe and preventing over use of their phones. And free! Could have more options, and also they can reboot the phone and it works for a few seconds before family link kicks in, but otherwise great!

Cant install extentions or themes cant add another google account to my childs chromebook for school that is needed due to covid-19. Ive deleated and removed and uninstalled and its still running on the device, do not install this because you arnt able to ever take it off apparently unless you factory reset device and get a new google account and that isnt fair for your child to loose access to all of their accounts and loose everything on their chromebook. SHAME ON YOU

  35. BJ Nichols-avatar

Unable to locate basic is very hard to navigate. Simply trying to add her school email to give her access to that account was beyond frustrating. I had to search through each parental control section to figure it out!

  36. Jamie Jardin-avatar

Won't let me add my kids school accounts. Tried added the companion app Google Classroom, but that didn't make any difference. Says after I try to add the school account that it " Can't communicate with Google servers." Tried on all 3 my kids devices and get the same error message.

  37. Super Man-avatar

I think your new update is not good as before, one of my son's smartphone is still can access the internet and apps even though, on the family link the device is at locked state.. I check possible reasons ,but every settings that i put to the family link is right.

My ex partner set up the account and added my daughter's device. Then added me as a manager and I downloaded family link. It won't let me see the family account even after logging in and telling me I'm a manager. Just offers up adding a new device. Can't access my daughters permissions on existing device. Extremely frustrating

  39. Cindy Acosta-avatar

Very grateful for this app it allows me to have full control of my childrens devises i love that i can set limits on how much they can use it locks every night at bedtime im also able to monitor activity and location👌 you are able to lock and unlock their device anytime of the day and when its locked they can still at least make a phone call incase of emergency

  40. Tao Liang Shen-avatar

Time limit per app not available on Chromebook. Features should really be avail for both Android and Chromebook to stop all the confusions. Unable to connect to Google accounts. Unable to load Google sites made for public! Very very poor integration even within Google suite.

Thank you so much for the great app! Really great!! However I would appreciate a lot if you could improve couple things :) Could you please add possibility setting a limit for continuous use of the device? for example - I wish I could configure automatic device lock for 10 minutes after 40 minutes continuous screen time. Possibility to add some apps to exception list would be perfect! When device is locked due to general time limit or bed time - I wish I could set exceptions for some apps. Thank you for your attantion and help in advance. I was looking for such app for a long time :)

  44. Jolyn Tan-avatar

This app is great! Suggestions to make it better... 1.Currently, the time limit/bed time setting is one setting for all device. It would be better if we can have the option to set different limit for different device. 2. I am not able to "supervise" my other child, 15yrs, cause she has more then 2 email address. Putting her under my supervision mean her other email addresses will be deleted. Could you enable such that the child under supervision can have more then 2 email address?

  45. Scott Reid-avatar

Good for setting and controlling kids screen time, following latest update the activity tracking now works as it should. Support is rubbish though like all Google apps.

Great app!! Reporting to parent has few delays and thre is some times that the kid's phone gets locked without any usage (reaches time limit with no usage) Should be improved so that a device can be used by more than one account.

  47. Brian Cashmore-avatar

This app sounds great until you install it. It takes over your childs account. You cannot add multiple accounts. The kicker, if you try and get rid of it, you have to delete you childs gmail account. All we wanted to do is add second account to chromebook for school since we are stuck home schooling with this corona nonsense. Now the device and account are basically held hostage. Do not install this app ever!

I lost a google account for my son that I've just created using this app and the email address is no longer available. So he will lose the chance to get his email address with his full name in the future. So disappointing.

  50. Mae Chandler-avatar

No help on set up. I can't even get someone to tell me however to allow adding more than one account on a child's profile. Edit: I already tried customer service. The person who responded to me keeps telling me how to add an account. I already know how to do that. I need to change the permission so that I can add another account. I've said this several times.

Great way to manage what my kids can and can't do with their tablets. Easy to use and does everything I need it to do, time limits, content filtering, etc.

  53. Eyvette Golish-avatar

Really easy to use and great for monitoring even devices that dont have a sim card and are just through wifi. Only wish there was a way to send apps to be downloaded from parent app. Example would be an educational app I found that I want to add to all my kids devices. Right now I have to go on each one separately and add it. If I could add it from my app would be so much easier.

  54. Heather Davis-avatar

Great app! I love it, its excellent for keeping the phone on a routine schedule and safe and easy monitoring for my kiddo!

  55. Diana Lozada-avatar

Love this app, I am managing 3 acc for my children, I can set the time limit in which they can be in their android devices. And when they are grounded I can lock it tio prevent them from using their devices. I'm having a small issue though, tried to add Dad(my husband) into the family group but we're being prompted that he isn't in the same country. I even changed it to make sure they are both set up in the same country, and still won't let me add him.

Great app, the only thing I'm missing is the app time limit with specific day period, for example 20min only in the evening

  57. Mark Valenzia-avatar

Thus far this app is super useful easy to setup and a brilliant way to keep kids focused especially in these trying times. If you have to home school your kids this app is a must.

  58. Wyatt Petersen-avatar

This is a great resource for parents and caretakers who have children with smartphones. I am able to monitor both screentime and content from my phone. My child(ren) can ask permission to download an app from their phone. If approved I can see information about time of use and stop or limit an individual app. The only thing I had trouble with was the family location. However after disabling the wi-fi( including the phone searching for wi-fi)the location service was more consistent and accurate.

  59. Carina Torres-avatar

Its a great app that you can get from Google without having to fork out money. You get phone and control what apps can and can't be used. I like the fact that it's control and not spying which is something that other vendors of similar apps offer. To me it's educating what to and what not to do on their phones. No different to how our computers are being allowed to be used. Filter unsuitable content (safe search) or using something like opendns. Great product, especially as it saves me £££

  61. jenn glick-avatar

Ok but limited use. It is all or nothing with this app. I would like to be able to give my child the use of his phone at certain times throughout the day and lock during other time but there is no option to do this. Only one bedtime lock with one set time and can only limit to a set block of time no option to choose certain times throughout the day to lock or unlock the phone.

  62. Ian Edgar-avatar

Just terrible. Clearly written by lawyers instead of software developers. So many dead ends, broken functions, and frustrations. My child's account is now locked, I am stuck in an activation loop, and can't remove the device to start again. I normally love Google but this experience is so bad my child's next device will be an iPad.

  63. Tom Insley-avatar

Complete Garbage! Every time I open the app, it asks me to set up the link to my child's phone. It gets to the end of the process but does not give me an option to continue. So if you're looking for an app that will run you in circles for an hour and still not allow you to do a single thing it's meant for, then this will be perfect for you. If you're looking for an app to monitor your child's Google account .... keep looking. #GoogleFail #DoesntWork #CantGetPastSetup

  64. Rosa Feliciano-avatar

The app can still be bypass from the lock screen, so even if the phone is blocked, you can still access and use the apps and functions on the phone. Also the "blocked sites" option doesn't work as I've had blocked various sites and domains, but still opens the page. PLEASE FIX THAT!!! The app is useless at this point.

  65. Patricia Gallucci-avatar

This is one of the worst apps I have ever used unfortunatly I have to give the app one star. It claims to give you control over the apps/websites,the ability to set schedule of when the devices can be used, to be able to lock devices and block apps. NONE of this is actually true. If you set a schedule for the devices to be shut down, the times will change or not lock at all. If you block an app or lock a device, it will unblock or unlock by itself in minutes. Complete waste of time.

  66. Karan Sharma-avatar

Looking for unsupervised the account. But your app doesn't have option to do that. Because of that my child can't login with his other account. Online solutions are not matching with this app.

Great app. Let's me keep track and control what my kids do while im not watching. I wish it could let me control the time of each app individually though.

  68. Deep Sandhu-avatar

Months later and bedtime and time limit settings still don't stick so it's not much use tbphwy. Once it starts working, I'm sure it'll be fine. Plus, it would be worthwhile to be able to leave (or have the option to leave) dumbphone functions (calling, texting, photos) and perhaps some selected apps (e.g. educational ones) outside these limits. Also when it's locked and I call, can my daughter see the missed call? Plenty of room for improvement before it becomes a useful tool.

Seems to be several versions of this to download and found it all over complicated with all the different accounts and people that need to be logged in here and there. Went through the process once a while back must have done it wrong ad it was all a mess. Spent hours the other day doing a factory reset on my daughters tablet trying to unravel the mess we ended up and then trying to re do it all correctly. Seems to be working ok now.

During times that are supposed to be blocked, the phone will suddenly unblock. My son can download apps without permission, even though I have it set to forbid that. This morning the phone was supposed to be blocked until 8 am for "bedtime mode", but I discovered it was unblocked. Basically, every setting I set up seems to glitch at times. I like the concept of the app and I will probably still use it for showing my son's location, but I will use another app like Stay Focused for app blocking.

Overall good. My child likes pokemon go on her mobile but could not turn location on so i looked on family link and turned on location.but now the phone cannot turn location off .so its either switched on 24/7 or if i change the setting it cannot be turned on when they play pokemon go.surely there should be a setting to choose that lets the user turn on or off location as it drains battery when its on .which if at home is pointless

Great way to monitor and control kids activities. Its great to be able to set time limits and bed times for phones. I love being able to just set a limit and not have to argue or have confrontational conversations. Its also great to be able to make their phone ring even if it is silenced. This makes it very easy to help kids find their phones. Only thing I would change is that I wish it was possible to have kids school accounts work alongside and with Family Link.

Texting and phone calls count the same as playing video games. To ensure that my kids can still text or call in the event an emergency happens at the end of the day, you have to set a massive global time limit then individual limits for every single app. I want my kids to only play games for an hour but put on Spotify for 2 hours while doing homework and chores. Seems simple right? You cannot do that with this app.

Easy to add time for special occasions, control weekday and weekend screen time for two separate devices/kids. For my younger child, when she requests permission to download an app to her tablet, the request appears on her device and requires my password to be entered on her device. On my older son's phone, notification requests are sent to my phone from family link. I can view the requested app on my phone, and send approval easily. I do prefer the latter method over the former.

I love what it can do but I can find it complex to use, particularly when I've a number of devices I'm looking to manage.

I'm not using many of the features so far, but it works well. What i don't like is that it seems impossible to install YouTube. We trust our son to watch appropriate content and he knows that i keep an eye on his watch history Watching gaming videos is what he spends a lot of his screen time on, yet Google have decided to not even make it an option to install YouTube, only YouTube Kids, which he tried, but it seems to be for far younger kids and none of the content he watches is available.

Was working great and loved the ability to help manage downloads and access times. However, from one day to another it lost the accounts on both phones and all setup. It's like it never had been setup. If this is an update issue then it shows the lack of quality as an update should not suddenly erase all settings or lose accounts. Especially when it is an app to help protect family members. Very disappointed. I'll change my rating if this anomaly can be fixed for good. Shame as it was promising.

It isn't bad as there are plenty of things to help guide children in healthy electronic use. One of the biggest issues that I have with this app is that when their device is locked (due to bedtime or screen time spent) they can not communicate through calls. They can make and receive calls but they can't communicate through the call. If this feature was fixed then I would really have no issues at all.

  79. Jen Millikan-avatar

Love this app.. you can lock devices and apps. Set time limits for apps. The only thing I DONT like is that you cant remove it from device you have to completely delete the Google account. You can however use the suspend feature and go right back to it.. but I would like to remove it without having to delete my kids account. So please fix that issue and I'll give you 5 stars...also wish it followed fir EVERY platform across the board.

Wish it updated correctly with the amount of time our child has been using a certain feature. It lags bad at times.

This is a very good idea that needs more work. Currently rather cumbersome to use in particular when it comes to YouTube. The worst what happened was that the app completely blocked child phone making it useless, not even emergency numbers could be called (system interface access lacks permission). Factory reset was the only way to recover. IMO block of emergency numbers must never happen - reason for 1.

I absolutely love this app. Easy to use and actually works, This day and age its tough to keep certain things from kids, and vice a versa, so with this app it makes the almost impossible, a lot more manageable. And with lightning speed almost up to the second., and pin point accuracy. This App is a Must have for parents who want to monitor what their children see online. Comes in handy if your child is lost and has his phone on him, you can track the phones location.

I thought after link to my account would let me stay connect with my children, but it actually not, it is a controling software to control what your children can or cant do with their phone, i dont prefer this apps if you wish to treat it as some sort of linking to your children

I have been trying to use this for a couple of hours with no success. It says to update chrome os, already up to date. Can't set up my kid's account.

  86. andrei80-avatar

Very promising, except I've already reported 2 problems long ago and they were not addressed. Kids with phones with offscreen controls can just press task manager button after time has expired and start and use any app from there and if I delete apps list, WhatsApp can be started from the accessible phone app and from there links can be opened in their corresponding apps. YouTube, for instance. And, there's no way to set notifications to off when kids install apps. My email is full of them...

Good but could be better. The option to have split settings when a child has more than one device is required. Example: One of my children has both a phone and a tablet and, even though I can see them separately, I only have the option for one set of 'bedtimes'. Likewise, the tablet never leaves home but to enable location tracking for the phone I have to activate on both devices, etc., etc., etc.

Firstly, let me say that I do like this app, it is a decent tool for helping to parent children in this digital age. The ease of navigation and control is really nice, it has some great features for controlling managed devices. I especially like the capability of locking down the devices, and the way that managed devices display real-time location in Google Maps. Also, I love that it works for both iPhone and Android (only the parent app, you cannot control Apple devices with the child app). However, there are some seriously obvious features that should be in place: 1) The option to lock-down app access on for the night should not require locking the whole device. I don't necessarily want the whole device locked. There are times I might need to be able to text my child or let them listen to music, but not want them on social media or games. Given that apps on the managed device can be manually disabled/enabled through the parent app, there should be an option to have them auto disable/enable based on time of day (whether the usage limit has met or not). 2) Usage Limits should be able to bundle apps by category. I should be able to allow a set amount of time for games, or social media, or educational games, etc., that is counted against the bundle of apps rather than specific apps. For example, my teenager right now has a 30-minute limit on 5 different social media apps, which allows for up to 2 and 1/2 hours a day on social media. I want to allow only 1 hour a day, but allow the time to be used on any of the 5 apps. Like I said, I do like the basic premise of the parental app. It just is missing some CRUCIAL features to make it a GREAT tool.

It's a good idea to have supervision while still allowing privacy. A few things still need to improve, such as allowing the parent to suspend the restrictions for a few minutes to allow installation of non play store apps or installing a new phone without an hour of app install pop-ups. Or to group apps for screen time because I'd give time for games but don't care which of the games are being played.

  90. Erez G-avatar

Overall good app with seamless and robust integration to the device. There is one critical feature missing which makes it somewhat useless - ability to set limits and schedules to entire app categories like games and social. Having to set limit per each game out of many is useless. Also locking the device completely like bedtime or global usage limit setting without ability to exclude access to phone, camera, alarm clock, etc. doesnt make sense as well.

  91. Dylan Lawrence-avatar

This app has really improved. Now with the ability to set limits on individual app, we can finally control content instead of just "screen time", which has always been an overly broad term. Now with school being cancelled all of my children's classes are online, and having the ability to limit youtube but not the schools apps and websites is essential to my child's education.

Even works well on the 2014 Samsung tablet we handed down to our daughter. Really surprising as it's only updated to Android 5.1 ... Was easy to install on both ends and I feel like Google covered all the bases. Update: Time limits *per-app* are only available on devices with Android N and up. Disappointing but understandable.

Tried to connect a child's account to the parent account. Got an error about 'different countries' - checked the child's account, no country has been set up - and the only way to set up a country is to add payment method (credit card) from that country. No, sorry, isn't going to happen. Users should be able to set their play store country without any payment method whatsoever, and/or in the case of setting family accounts allow different members of the same family to have different "countries". This is a very poor design decision. Not user friendly and quite annoying.

Works great most of the time. I have been having issues with it not communicating quickly with the kids phones. Like if they have been on there phone to long and I want to shut there phone off I may have to( take there phone in my hand) shut there phone off and turn it back on for it to show it has been shut off. But when it is communicating correctly we love it and it works great.

  95. Ruthie Freeman-avatar

So easy to get around the lock times. All you have to do from the locked screen is swipe down from the top, tap the search bar, and it brings up the most recent used apps. Touch the one you want, and it comes right up! Also, even though I have blocked download access from the play store, she was able to download Samsung Kids without Family Link asking me permission. Besides that, I like it. I just wish the lock screen weren't so easy to bypass.

  96. Matthew Lyons-avatar

The app updates sporadically. Sometimes I'll get an instant notification of my child's activities, and other times I can wait 6 hours or more. I know my child's device is connected to the internet (as is mine) at all times, so the issue is not connectivity. The concept of the app is good and the layout is simple enough, but the functionality is poor. With no obvious alternative I will continue to use this...

The idea is good, but my children were able to find a couple of ways to bypass any limitations within minutes. You can start apps from a notification bar even if the phone is locked (eg. WhatsApp). Then all you need to do is to click on a link - web browser opens without any problems with the phone still (theoretically) locked. Or you can just run an app from extreme power saving mode. Seems like my kids are smarter than Google programmers. These flaws make the app pretty much useless.

  98. Murat DOKUMAN-avatar

When you initially open the app it directs you to create your own family group. My wife accidentally created a family group while her intention was to join the existing one. So she had to delete the other one. Now google says she will have to wait for 12 months to switch a group! Thank you google. My daughter's mother will be out of the "family" for the next 12 months. How genious.

So when it's the next day, and say I used all of the time limit my parent/guardian set yesterday, the next day it's still locked. To improve the app, you shoulf make it set to daily. So when somebody uses all their tike at about 7:00 PM, they don't have it locked until 7:00 PM the next day, they should be able to use it once the clock hits 12:00 AM. Thanks for reading my review.

Wow! I'm blown away! This is the tool I've been looking for. Verizon tried to make something as effective as this and in my opinion, doesnt come close to this. I applaud your developers and team that produced this fine product. Keep bringing awesome tools, that bring productivity, effectiveness, and user experience all into something any parent would love to use.
