Google Family Link is a parental controls app that helps you keep your family safer online. We know that every family's relationship with technology is unique, so we've designed tools like Family Link that give you the flexibility to choose the right balance for your family and help them create healthy digital habits. Family Link's easy-to-use tools allow you to understand how your child is spending time on their device, see their device location, manage privacy settings and more.

  With Family Link, you can:

  Establish digital ground rules
  • Set screen-time limits – Family Link lets you set downtime for your child's device and time limits for apps, so that you can help them find a healthy balance.
  • Guide them to age-appropriate content – approve or block apps that your child wants to download. Family Link also allows you to choose the right YouTube experience for your child: a supervised experience on YouTube or YouTube Kids.

Manage and secure your child's account
  • Protect their privacy – permissions management in Family Link allows you to make meaningful choices about your child's data. View and manage permissions for websites and extensions accessed through Chrome, as well as apps downloaded on your child's device.
  • Secure their account – Family Link gives you access to manage your child's account and data settings. As a parent, you can help change or reset your child's password if they forget it, edit their personal information or even delete their account if you feel that it's necessary.

  Stay connected on the go
  • See where they are – it's helpful to be able to find your family when they're on the go. With Family Link, you can locate your children on one map, as long as they're carrying their device.
  • Get notifications and alerts – Family Link delivers critical notifications, including when your child arrives at or leaves a certain location. You can also ring devices and view the device's remaining battery life.

  Important information

  • Family Link's tools vary depending on your child's device. See a list of compatible devices at https://families.google/familylink/device-compatibility/
  • While Family Link helps you manage your child's purchases and downloads from Google Play, they won't need approval to install app updates (including updates that expand permissions), apps that you have previously approved or apps that have been shared in Family Library. In addition, purchase approvals will only apply when your child makes a purchase through Google Play's billing system, and will not apply to purchases made through alternative billing systems. Parents should regularly review their child's installed apps and app permissions in Family Link.
  • You should carefully review the apps on your child's supervised device, and disable those that you don't want them to use. Note that you may not be able to disable some pre-installed apps such as Play, Google, etc.
  • To see the location of your child or teen's device, the device must be turned on, recently active and connected to the Internet through data or Wi-Fi.
  • Family Link parental controls are only available for supervised Google Accounts. With supervised Google Accounts, children get access to Google products like Search, Chrome and Gmail, and parents can set up basic digital ground rules to supervise them.
  • While Family Link provides tools to manage your child's online experience and keep them safer online, it does not make the Internet safe. Family Link cannot determine the content on the Internet, but it can give parents the opportunity to make decisions about how their child spends time on their device and determine what path to online safety looks best for your family.

Very disappointed this app use to work and now we can't see our child's location it doesn't update app use, it doesn't update location. And constantly says device is offline when it's online. What is the use of having these apps to protect your child and monitor their use if its not working.

This app has caused me more trouble than it has helped. It has taken me like an hour to download a paid purchase. I also have had issues doing a factory reset on another tablet even though I deleted the account and told the app to stop monitoring the device. Now I am using on a completely new device and the experience is still horrible so far maybe things will improve who knows

I love it, I've used it 4years, my kids respect it. I added a 3rd party app 2prevent my children from modifyin settings, they don't &Won't hav the option 2opt out @13, I'm their dad, I bought the phone, I pay 4the wifi, I pay the cell phone bill, I can install an pp on their phone that they can't &won't have access2. Adding a PIN 2various areas of the app 2prevent settings from being modified would be helpful. It's a groles a great job in assisting parents, no other app does it better for free♥️

Very good but a LOT of room for improvement please: 1. I can't limit the YouTube app!! I don't want my kid to access it but there is no way to stop it using Family Link 2. I have allowed some games, but my kid wants to sign in inside those games, he can't. I don't get an option on mt mobile that he needs permission... I have to physically enter permission on my kids device. Great and much needed initiative

I'm a 33 year old mum, I'm not techy, I struggle. Really worried when my daughter was ready for a phone but Family Link has been fantastic, so easy to install & use. Very thankful for the app 5 🌟

Very informative and helpful in controlling and supervision of your kids' activities on the phones. I am new to it but have enjoyed making my guys go to bed on time. I am also fully aware of what they are downloading and installing on their phones. I can also delete or block any unauthorized downloading of a game or anything that is not desirable or educational for their age. Thanks to Google for family link and related activities that keeps me informed about their activities on the internet.

This has been really useful for setting time limits and locking the phone at bedtime. However, it does not have the option to lock screen brightness or volume and these are features I desperately need. The play a sound to find the phone feature is nice as well but it has a glitch that makes it not work until the phone is turned on after an unlock timer(i.e. phone locks at 10pm, phone unlocks at 8am, find phone feature does not work until you manually open the phone the first time after 8am.)

A year later with new phones and now it seems to work. But I had to set up the library on the computer, the rest on the phone. I took several hours to find a way that worked. Not so user friendly to get up and running. ... The most annoying app here! I have managed it to work on a phone now broken. Then tried to install it on three other devices and just loops between error messages. Many hours spent in vain.

Thank you Google for offering this service for free. This service is the only reason I have the convenience to video call my child on a universal device like an Android phone. A phone just offers us everything we need in one. Child Gmail accounts and Family Link are underrated. TMobile was charging my girlfriend $30/monthly for a similar service. Her son at the age of 8, was able to download an app for sexual video chatting with strangers. Google rescued our lifestyle.

The app has been very useful in making sure my 12-year-old granddaughter, who lives with me, stays safe online by limiting what apps she can d/l & requiring permission to do so, setting age appropriate limits, set & track time limits, check surfing history and the ability to see where she is when away from home. I believe in appropriate limits and this app is a good tool. Not being aware of her online activity would be tantamount to dropping her off in Times Square at night.
