It's really easy and helpful! I really like this app, and I need it so I can learn (and eventually master) Icelandic before I hopefully move to Iceland when I'm older and have the resources!

Really nice app, it makes fun to learn a new language, in my case Icelandic. The methods to learn new words aren't the standard stuff and you have also the possibility to say no to a new word if you won't learn it when it isn't necessary for you. Five stars for this app. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  4. Oleksandr Miroshnichenko-avatar

    Oleksandr Miroshnichenko

I think that learning the names of basic everyday items is essential to surviving in another country and this app starts you out with exactly that. Awesome app! I can't brag about it enough and I highly recommend it to anyone who's interested in learning ANOTHER language! I would give it MORE than five stars if I could!

Besides the ads and stuff the app works pretty well and I hope I dont have to change this... :D

  35. Katharina Hobrak-avatar

    Katharina Hobrak

I've been using this app for a while, and it's an okay app for learning words, also if you use the free version. But I've so far found two words where the written word was something different from what audio said. Also even worse, are the countless times the translation into Norwegian was clearly wrong. Because of this I feel I can't trust the app completely, because there is no way for me to know if the word they are teaching me are correct. Would upgrade to premium if it wasn't for this.

  36. Anna Zborowska-avatar

    Anna Zborowska

So far I like the app but it's only been two days. The only thing that is super annoying though is when a new word is introduced and a lector pronounces it, it switches to the English translation for that moment. I would very much like to follow the letters as it's being pronounced, can't it flip to the translation AFTER it's been pronounced? Thanks.

  37. Mel Tells-avatar

    Mel Tells

The app makes it really easy to learn words in many different ways. You learn how they sound and have to learn how to spell them as well, but you don't have to type the special characters yourself because the app has the letters pop up on the screen.I wish there were full sentences, but that might come later. I'm still learning words. And it has a lot of words to offer!

  38. Matthew Bauman-avatar

    Matthew Bauman

Great, but they teach the compound words before the individual parts. Sometimes you can figure it out, but not often enough. Also, days should be longer than 24 hours, or they should let you repair your streakby doing a lesson twice a day for a few days. Oh, and the "suprise package" is never a suprise, it's always the same deal.

  39. Catherine Mahoney-avatar

    Catherine Mahoney

I downloaded this because it offered what I was looking for - Icelandic. I really love the interface and it offers something different to Duolingo. I will be curious to see if it can offer helpful grammar learning, at the moment it is just offering 1st person for basic verbs, but I like the inclusion of relevant verbs for vocab topics. My main issue is that the app suddenly closes two or three times in one session. I won't pay for the app until this issue is fixed. (S9, everything up to date).

  40. LordeGhoul-avatar

Fun and interactive, and it's made in a way that is less intimidating. So if you feel like you might have issues with memorizing words, you can always refer to certain topics and practice more. Eventually it'll become second nature! So far I've completed the first Food topic, it was actually fun. Not only does it teach you to speak it, but it teaches spelling, and to familiarize yourself with hearing the worlds and learning to associate them with certain representative visuals. I like it.

  41. William Patrick Harrison-avatar

    William Patrick Harrison

Love the app, very easy to use, clear recording of pronunciations, pleasing visuals/audio, my only minor criticism or suggestion for improvement is the swipe/wordsearch method feels too obvious to help train memory as it doesn't challenge you, especially as it shows the word path if you don't type it that quickly. But I'm very aware this may just be a matter of how I prefer learn. Otherwise a beautifully made app. First accessible way in to Icelandic I've found.

  42. Airida-avatar

Love it! But I don't have any way of paying for the subscription to get unlimited time and 5 minutes are definitely not enough. So maybe for people that can't pay for the subscription you could watch an ad every day or several ads every 5 or more minutes to keep the unlimited time.

  43. Mario M-avatar

    Mario M

It's definitely a good way to get the basics.

  44. Ernest Gonzalez-avatar

Love the low impact 5 minute sessions. Really helps me to feel like I'm making progress, and learning at least a little something. The interface is super intuitive and the icons are very easy to read for the vast majority of words so far.

  46. The Capturist-avatar

    The Capturist

Really helpful tool to learn a hard language. Drawings help out a lot! At first I was upset about only have 5 minutes per day for free but it ended up being enough for one day and I do feel great progress. All in all this is an excellent app.

I love this app; it's fun & intuitive. I am enjoying learning slowly but steadily, and I am currently still in the mainly vocabulary buding stage of Icelandic. I think as adults we often forget that we had to undergo many years of vocabulary building to become the conversationalists we are today. I appreciate this simple and easy approach to learning Icelandic. I am looking forward to someday surprising my Icelandic friend by speaking to her in her native language!

I got a warning on my screen saying "There was a problem with my login", I logged into the account where I was learning Icelandic, I really hoped my progress would stay at 17 words...uh NO, my 17 words are gone to hell, my progress went to hell and my hope went to hell.

The format of mini-lessons only available at intervals has really motivated me to use this app! My official "streak" is only 15 days because of some weirdness with the way they count days, but really I've used it every single day since I downloaded it, about 25 days ago. Not sure how much "language" I'm really going to learn here, but it's doing an excellent job of helping me learn to see a string of letters and figure out what sound they make--which is a very useful skill when traveling.

Exactly as decribed, fun, and the lessons are sized just right for in terms of time and content. As a pretty busy person, it is perfect for me to continue making progress each day with quick 15 minute sessions...easily building my vocabulary for further study towards fluency. I have used just about every app available and this is one of the better ones I have found, and inexpensive enough that I purchased the lifetime option. Well done.

This app is advertised to have pronunciation.. yet there is no such thing. So what's the point? Update, I'm hearing the pronunciation now, which makes the entire difference. I can say it along as I last. Some words are more difficult to pronounce but I'm getting used to it. The only thing I don't like so far is that it rushes me to make the correct answer or it gives it to me. Let me figure it out on my own, then have a hint key if needed.

Really enjoyed it! Wish there was more info upfront about how to cancel the recurring subscription/after the trial, as I can't sign up 4 such an expensive app without knowing how to get out, in case I try it for a week &decide it isn't for me (zero beginner here). I'm giving it 4 stars for the quality, pleasant voice, games &all but I have to try it for more than 2 mins, to give an informed opinion. Instead of 5 free mins to newbies you should give discounts to those who signs up,for the reviews

it's hard to find a language learning app that covers Icelandic, so kudos, but Drops only covers vocab, which isn't actually how language works. Especially in Icelandic where nouns decline differently depending on useage. Without grammar, a bunch of vocab is helpful if you are a bumbling tourist, but useless in actual conversation. Lucky for users of this App, most Icelanders speak English fluently.

I'm 4 days in. It seems very good but it hasn't given me any new words for a couple of days - despite me using it twice a day with 100% accuracy. It seems to be more focused on targeting me with upgrade offers... Also, I think the upgrade price of £139.99 is extortionate. I've bought a book+CD off eBay instead for less than a tenth of that price - which will also teach me essential grammar.

Really good but... It ist very (!) expensive to buy the premium version, in which you can learn more words and you can learn when you want. At the moment I use the normal Version and can learn every 10hours 5min. It is okey because I do it in the morning and evening but I don't know how long I can learn until the normal version says stop you can only go on with the premium. More than 100€ for one year is for a stundent impossible sorry.

Exactly what I was looking for in learning Icelandic. I like the repetition but with lots of different methods of asking the question. I like that a question is progressively more difficult the longer you've had a word. The ui seems easy and is bubbly and gamelike. Its good looking.

Very helpful to utilise memory by spending time on remembering one word in different ways, as this is how I learn. Interactive screen with dragging and swiping is making patterns woth memory also. Thank you to creators. Great app. *Edit. Every so often the app will freeze and I have to close and restart. Also while learning Icelandic numbers it is only teaching masculine numbers 1-4, need the feminine and neutral also. Great app again.

This is a very good app, the only thing is that for free you can only "play" 5 minutes every 10 hours so you can't "play" for long. Other than that, its really good. The paying version is for 33 languages, not just the icelandic, so it must be really worth it if you are into languages, and learning in a fun way.

I like the audio pronunciations. It helps alot. Also the pictures help alot. Great app! I'm going to upgrade when I can. I am editing my initial review to say that I still love this app but there's one problem. I have mastered over 150 Icelandic words and now have a new phone and want to transfer my progress to the new phone. I downloaded the app and didn't see any buttons for signing in if I already use drops so it's starting me at the beginning. Help !!

I've been looking for something to help learn Icelandic, as there's not much available for it I was pretty happy to find this app. Overall very helpful, I would recommend it for learning any language. The voices are excellent non-robotic haha and precise. I couldn't be happier with it.

This app is pretty good for teaching you vocabulary, I would say, but it tells you absolutely no grammar whatsoever, which is a major downside. You just can't learn a language without learning grammar. You will learn useful phrases, but not the language itself. Therefore, this app is not very useful for me. Sadly, I found no app that would teach me grammar, so I'll probably have to save up for a textbook. Don't recommend if you want to actually learn the language.

Very helpful! I have been wanting to learn Icelandic, but didn't know where to start. This app helps out a lot. I am currently using the free version, but I am planning on buying the lifetime subscription at some point. You get so many different languages within this one app. I'm either doing French or Hindi next. Thank you.

Seems like a great app but the cost outscales the free capabilities. I think it would be a bit better if it offered some more time per day to free folks or if the net cost was a bit lower to buy. I might suggest $25.00 for a year subscription since I can buy a full package (cd and book) to learn the language off Amazon for $35.00.

Only just started using it, it is a great complement to the book I use to learn Icelandic. I just think that to pronounce a word in Icelandic, hearing it and reading isn't enough, you do need more insight of Icelandic grammar to get it right as rules changes depending where different letters stand in a word. Overall, very good app!

Great app for learning loads of words and hearing the pronunciation. Nothing in the way of grammar to know how to put sentences together but in Icelandic this is really difficult with all the cases etc, but certainly enough to get by in pidgin fashion, I really look forward to my daily dose! Loving the new sections of useful phrases in Travellers Talk, especially now I've completed all the other sections and the app isn't really set up for just random revision once all sections are complete.

I gave 4 stars earlier review... upgrading to 5 stars...also paid for year's premium subscription. I still would like to know about the audio pronunciation of certain letters. If i were to suggest one improvement, it would be a list of written out pronunciations (as in a dictionary) of learned words, accessible through a menu. Also I wish, when app gives confirming pronunciation after I correctly answer, the picture & spelling would linger just a moment longer or hold if one touched the spelling

I've wanted to learn Icelandic for a while, but not too many applications offer this old language. So when I found this application I was thrilled! The audio uses good quality native speakers, which is very important for me, and the lessons are very simple. This application is also easy to use.

Good for vocabulary and pronunciation. I wish it taught more grammar and helped you learn sentences and noun conjugation. But overall a good vocabulary builder. I wouldn't consider it if you were wanting to use the language everyday though. I consider it more supplementary material to say maybe reading or something.

Great introduction to Icelandic. But through vocab alone you can't really learn a language. A nice addition would be grammar lessons and mabey something below the words indicating how exactly it's pronounced. This was my biggest problem with the app as I'm not an auditory learner, I can't pick up how a word is said just through listening, I need something to read and sound out.

Simple format using flashcard style of learning with games and pictures. I like that you can practice twice a day with the free version. I have a hard time buying this since it does not help with grammar or sentence forming. I would suggest units built on making small sentences or on conjugations if verbs.

I really like it, it's one of the best apps besides doulingo. The only thing I HATE about it is that you learn for 5 minutes then you have to stop for 10 minutes unless you buy the membership. Plus ads. I might just contact doulingo and see if they can add icelandic.

  138. Scott-avatar

The daily time limit is a little disappointing, and it'd be great to have explanations for word pronounciation, or tips on how to pronounce words (This feature might already exist; haven't used the app that much). Besides it's doubts it seems great!

Great app, makes for easy learning. Used duolingo before but they don't include Icelandic, however one of their features is a pronunciation test which this app doesn't include. Would be an improvement in a future upgrade so that you know whether you are saying things correctly.

Simple and easy to use, don't like the forced payment to proceed, something like this should be supported with ads and such instead of payment. Language learning is knowledge, knowledge is a rite and should be free to indulge.

From my first look at the app it applies new ways for you to learn the wirds you see, either by having to match it with a picture, or by having to solve several different puzzles for you to complete the word. Overall a great app.

It's all good for what it provides. Needless to say, it's just meant to be supplemental learning. You're not going to learn a whole language with this, but you'll definitely expand your vocabulary somewhat. I'd suggest full phrases as a category, maybe.
