I love this app, it's helped my memory a lot. I even went with the subscription while I'm actively studying. However when I go to review the words in my collection the app is so slow all of a sudden. Takes 5-10 seconds to open the menu of each word ("•••") and another 5-10 seconds for it to register the option I tap. And scrolling through it takes 20-30 seconds for the list of words to appear. Would really love to see a fix implemented for this. Otherwise, I'm very happy.

  2. Mason Fletcher-avatar

Definitely worth $10 a month for more than 5 minutes of daily study. The app is super encouraging and makes learning easy.

  3. Daniela Lopes-avatar

    Daniela Lopes

Love it! The graphics are lovely and keep me from thinking about the words in English too much. This app alone won't teach me the language but it's a great help for building vocabulary, and I use other resources for grammar/writing/conversing. The 'milestones' and progress tracking is also super encouraging. I use this every day :)

It's an amazing so for learning, but you only get so much time a day to learn. After that you have to pay for more time to practice. If it were a cheaper price, I would sign up for the membership. I actually had the thought run across my mind that I should delete it, because yes not enough time. I'm only keeping it, because it's a good side app to go with my other apps. Just one question for the developers: what's better --10 dollars a month from 10 people, or 2 dollars a month from 1k people?

Easy, fun, & effective! Clear pronunciations and the pics aid tremendously in learning!

  7. Alexander B.-avatar

The words are totally random, not even as much as a topic or category. So far I found no way to replay the pronunciation. It's ok for a free app. The lessons are limited to 5 min per day. You have to pay to get more.

  8. Laura Savard-avatar

I'm really enjoying the lessons. With the subscription, there are no annoying ads, and I'm finally making progress with this challenging language.

  9. Suzanne Arruda-avatar

Good but the speaker needs to speak more slowly, at least in ghe beginner level.

My experience with drops Portuguese (European) is just the best! As I learned a lot from it. Using both google translate and drops is the way to go; to learning fully and the amount of 5 minutes makes you think the next day of all the words you used. 10/10 app defently would say to get as you can learn sooo much! From basic colours, pronunciations and other amazing things!

  18. CV Play and Grow-avatar

    CV Play and Grow

A great way to build vocabulary. I would say great for children too, given the picture association and repetitive nature. However, the spelling portion of the games would need to be for ages 10 and up. It won't impact the overall participation but it may cause frustration. The app does not generalize across Android and apple devices without words and pictures changing. (Ex. Couve -Android, repolho, Apple)

  19. Melissa Timoteo-avatar

I lovs this app!!! I'm Portuguese, but I really wanted to improve my speaking. There are many words I don't know and I'm not the best in spelling or grammar. The app has improved that though and the image to word association really helps. My Avó is very impressed with what I've learned and our conversations are becoming more in depth. I haven't bought the app, but everyday I want to more and more. Soon enough I will give in.

Just installed this and took the first 5 minute tour. Easy and fun. A good way to learn new nouns (that's all I've seen so far). But let's see what the next experiences will bring. Still finding it useful and a good way to get ideas (not just words) into my head.

I love the way they made this learning game very visual, it's easy to learn and looks beautiful. The downside is that you can only learn for about 5 minutes a day and you can only acces certain themes untill you unlock them by learning. That is, unless you are willing to pay of course ;) . What you pay is not a super high amount of money but if you want a completely free app, this isn't the one :). But yes, the quality is very good.

Interesting approach, and can use it for European Portuguese. Most apps offer only Brazilian. Update: The app is great for building vocabulary, but doesn't really help with being able to put a sentence together. Best used along with other language learning apps or lessons. Also there are issues with the payment process. I had paid for a year's full access, but it disappeared suddenly after about four months use. Attempts to "restore purchase" or with customer assistance go nowhere so far....

  59. Kerri Delaney-avatar

    Kerri Delaney

Good for learning. It's interactive and can do sessions based on the time you set. Only downfall is you can't search for particular words. Really disappointed in the lack of a search feature for when you need it. Paid €40 for the app and would like if it was a bit more helpful when you've forgotten a word or need one you haven't learned yet. Had to revert back to Google.

  60. Kieran Jenkins-avatar

    Kieran Jenkins

Have been using for 5 days as a complete beginner and so far finding it great. Beautiful design and intuitive interaction make it a joy to use. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is due to the length of free time each day and the cost to pay. More free time as a new user especially, or even just a free week would show what the experience is like when paid for, get me hooked on using it, which in turn would make me more like to subscribe.

  61. Summer Goldsmith-avatar

    Summer Goldsmith

Great app. The only one I have found to learn European Portuguese. There are various categories with many topics included in each category. It is fun, and offers a comprehensive learning style. It's wonderful. It also has the feature of showing the words you have learned that day, and so far. It has the ability to click on each of those words and hear it at a normal speed and then slowly. Highly recommend! Thank you Drops for offering European Portuguese!

  62. Neil González-avatar

Waste of time. As previous comments state, this is not a useful app to learn languages and frustrating that it's touted as free. You barely get the hang of this app before they start wringing their hands for your money. Waste of time downloading.

Only absolute beginners need apply. Waay too basic. In the 5 minute trial I did not learn a single new word. I kept rapidly skipping all the words I'm familiar with. Even then, the daily 5 minute limit is ridiculous. The drop idea might be clever, but it's meaningless without solid cirriculum. Style over substance 100% This is the worst Portuguese app I have used to date. -an expat living in Portugal in need of further advancement in the language.

Please check because you're still using Brazilian words (eg fazenda for quinta, abacaxi for ananás etc) but app itself is fun and effective and I've remembered loads of words just from this app! Been useful with Brazilian and Portuguese customers. But after all this time, it's a sign of complacency that words are still having to be corrected! Just run all your vocab past a native speaker or two!

  71. Sonia Beckford-avatar

    Sonia Beckford

I liked it so much I took advantage of the offer and paid for a year. I find European Portuguese easier to learn than Brazilian and this app also makes it fun. I did find the 5 min session easier than the 15 mins so it's good to have the option.

Great app! I am an intermediate, married to a portuguese for 10 years. The app is perfect to broaden the vocabulary and improve writing. I use the free version 5 min in the morning and 5 in the evening. I love it!

  73. Narcisa-avatar

I like the app and 5 free minutes are ok for new words if you dont need an intensive learning. but for the dojo option (when practicing the already unlocked words) i wish to do it without using my 5 minutes. It should be free or limited to a certain time.

pretty spankin good! but i wish there was more work for the foundations, and more conversational work for structured sentences. Good for key words, not good for learning a language.

  80. Nicola Meere-avatar

    Nicola Meere

it's a bit slow and there are some weird ways of doing things but it does do European Portuguese and a lot of repetition which is what people need to help them learn but for a more advanced this takes too long to get through so I don't think I'll bother.

  81. Evan Moulson-avatar

It's great, but I would really love different voices (to help me disassociate the word from the specific voice in the app) and the ability to speak answers to help me practice speaking.
