** Due to the change of the song database structure, playlist filename cannot contain special characters or whitespaces. Sorry for the inconvenience.

** In case of a persistent problem with Droidsound-E, the only way to get it fixed is to send me E-mail and describe the problem. Crash reports through Google Play won't help in most cases. ***

Google Play Reviews

  1. Lukasz Bubel-avatar

Best chiptune player around!!! Superb audio quality and hundreds of formats supported!

  2. Mistsofnowh3r3-avatar

changelog For old or otherwise unusal music formats this app is the best on the playstore.

  3. A Google user-avatar

    apk Plays every format imaginable

  4. Nicole Winters-avatar

droidsound e github Ive been using Droidsound and Droidsound-E for what feels like ages. Whenever I get a new android device its one of the first things I install. Using a systems native sound format saves a unbelievable amount of space with no sound loss, and this program runs every format I try to toss at it. Great job dev!

  5. Mike Mee-avatar

I use this as my only retro and modern game music player. It can handle almost every ST tune I throw at it and all of the Nintendo DS rips I've cone (via ModPlug tracker) are perfect too. I like the CSDB updates as I can listen to the C64 being pushed to the limits :-)

  6. Sean Suprenant-avatar

This has been the best music player I've seen for Android. It's played every kind of file I can throw at it. I've upgraded my phone to Marshmallow, and it stopped working right, but I was able to fix this by updating with the latest unofficial build from the developer's github.

  7. Tommy Sanders-avatar

Good. But for some reason my snes rsn files arent playing or showing up anymore. Ok solved that problem. What would be great though, and helpful. Would be folder names also showing in search results

  8. mihaelkyeah ksjn-avatar

Only one suggestion, if it wouldn't be too compromising, that maybe fade out (plus additional length, so as to reach the third loop and then start fading) is available for looped songs but it detects non looped ones to skip quickly? I've been using fade out on (7 seconds) along with 10 seconds of additional length so as to be able to hear non looped sounds entirely (like the SNK bios and others) but it takes forever to skip obviously. So, would this be too troublesome to implement? Thank you!

  9. Skie Strife-avatar

Updating my review since the white-window problem was fixed very quickly after it was mentioned. Droidsound-e improves upon the original, adding much better file support and a much more tolerable GUI layout. DS-E is so good at what it does, that I've installed android emulation software on my pc just to be able to run it, as it far exceeds the Chipamp plugin for Winamp. If you love chiptunes, you cannot go wrong with DS-E!

  10. CSVee-avatar

I'm impressed, this one of the few music apps out there thst support brstms and other game files. However when I tried to advance the music to a different time (e.g., from 1:00 to 2:23 or anything similar) with either the slider bar or the fast-forward/rewind, it refused to work and just replayed the song, regardless of file format, from the beginning. Also, my m3u playlist is not read, despite working on my default app. Can I suggest trying a layout/style like Brawlbox has for looping files?

  11. Finn Fann-avatar

Honestly I love it. Support for all my favorite lesser known formats AND the developer responds very quickly. I'd go into more detail but I'm too busy enjoying my ogg, opus and midi files.

  12. Feliksas-avatar

Please, add an option to DISABLE auto-rescan on every damn app start, it does nothing but waste time, if the content does not change. Or at least make it a background service.

  13. Mop Mop-avatar

Phone updated to Marshmallow. App no longer seems to be able to read from external sd even though it has storage permissions.

  14. Corwin Brence-avatar

For MIDI, VGZ, even PSF files, this is very usable, ad free, and decidedly not sucky. Great work!

  15. Corey Scott-avatar

Edit: Thanks! I was not aware of a forced mono option on my phone :)

  16. DragoSmash-avatar

It has supported any and all of the formats I use, and the feature to add individual tunes from an nsf to a playlist is amazing, it's literally the best player

  17. Daniel Brodzik-avatar

Perfect continuation of a wonderful app! Light-years ahead of the original in every way. Please keep up the good work!

  18. 宮坂ウーゴ-avatar

A pretty good vgm player! I wonder if there will be 2SF support soon. Keep up the good work!

  19. David Radabaugh-avatar

    David Radabaugh

Plays all the emulated formats I have found and they all sound spot on to the originals. Highly recommended.

  20. Kayvon Javid-avatar

I love the new ui and that you can change the volume on miniusf and any file.

  21. Ma Om-avatar

Edit - Thanks for the update. I found the update. Awesome. Thanks for your hard work and speedy updates. !!

  22. David Newman-avatar

But when will you publish the app again?

  23. Jason Sanders-avatar

This app is a lot better than when I last saw it. Much better interface and a crazy amount of supported formats. Nice job! Not a perfect score though because there's still some minor bugs. Only one I haven't been able to work around is that Shuffle is broken...

  24. Bob Mocadlo-avatar

Works great! One minor improvement would be the ability to manually reorder items in a playlist; right now, you can only remove individual items or add them to the bottom of the list. Being able to sort by the video game name would also be nice (as that's mainly why I need to reorder the tracks). The ability to turn individual tracks on and off would be nice as well, but I'm not going to fault anyone for that, as it's probably a major programming feat!

  25. Adam Gashlin-avatar

Excellent work bringing together oh so many projects for Android. Plays great on most rips I've tried, 1.664 interface update looks nice.

  26. Lucas P.-avatar

This might have been the best update this app has ever seen. Now all playback issues I'd once had have been flawlessly corrected. You are a truly devoted dev!

  27. Ford Seidel-avatar

This app fixes a plethora of issues with the original droidsound and is by far the best chiptune player for Android! The new UI is also quite nice.

  28. Adrian Black-avatar

This is one of several apps I would miss if I had to move to iOS. Thanks for all the updates too!

  29. COMBO-avatar

So good, wish you made a PC version.

  30. Ibrahim Naufal-avatar

The good: I can enjoy old vgm without converting them to huge files. This is the best app for it. So, thanks. The bad: Can't reorder songs in playlists. Interface is as dated as the music. Can't put individual subtunes separately in a playlist. Default length settings make small 1 second minitunes play for minutes, and if I lower the length, good longer tunes will get shorter. I play vgm via chipamp on PC where tunes end in a natural manner. Hope I can get the same experience on this app.

  31. Uriah Jackson-avatar

Everything I like about the original, but with even more features (endless play is especially nice). Best of all, it works with Lollipop, and has a responsive and active developer. My only problem is that it took me so long to find out about.

  32. Ethan Brown-avatar

Being able to switch the method of song order(the order they play in, not just the one they are viewed in) would be nice. Unless I'm missing something. Sometimes I need to play by filename, other times I need to play by title. They also seem to play in a weird order. I'd kinda like to drop them into a playlist file saved in that folder and have them play in a set order when you hit the playlist. Would prefer to make on PC and transfer, as it's easier. Seem to have some problems naming the playlist.

  33. Pablo's Corner-avatar

For some odd reason, no matter if I were to uninstall, update, etc. BASSMIDI will not work anymore and no matter what soundfont I use, the MIDIs will never play. Everything else works fine but I don't know what happened to BASSMIDI.

  34. Edward Swiftwood-avatar

    Edward Swiftwood

Just like the original, except so many times better and more extended. Wish I had discovered the replacement earlier is my only complaint, and that's purely my fault. Keep up the awesome work!

  35. Casey Campbell-avatar

The developer is actively involved and has fixed many issues within hours of them being posted. Objectively superior to the original, with the ability to symlink to any folder that works on newer android os. No more fiddling around to get my external SD card working!

  36. Gregory McCanna-avatar

    Gregory McCanna

Whenever I play a song that has a loud sustaining note (such as Andross) it sorta cuts in and out only when that note occurs. All of my other USF's are fine such as SM64, Paper Mario, and Conker. I might see if this occurs on my Shield but its a bit annoying nonetheless at least on my Snapdragon 800 Note 3.

  37. Sirena Ruiz-avatar

Love this app so much, wish there was a way to get LazyUSF to stop constantly pausing for seconds on some songs. Also MT-32 does the same thing!

  38. Brach Speicher-avatar

Actually supports infinite playback, subsongs, and appears to support more formats than the other app with a similar name. I assume it's a continuation of the other codebase, but this is highly appreciated!

  39. James Kendall-avatar

Thank you for reviving a old friend. I have one issue with it though it keeps producing a floater text that says onupdate. Not sure why. I miss spoke it's a toast notification. The issues is even odder then I thought it seems to be a bug in two TouchWiz widgets. When I first play a song the two widget fire up intents then the onupdat toast start. Edit I found the widgit that was conflicting with this and now that i have unistalled ADL DMX Calc im nolonger experiencing the issues.

  40. Ventil Ator-avatar

Edit: Thank you! You are right as its a bit awkward with editing posts every time. hehe It would be awesome if these features would be added. XPK unpack support, Upnp or DLNA option so people could get the music right into stereo equipment. A plugin/add-on for Kodi/XBMC perhaps too. Edit: Thats was a fast reply, and thanks. :) XPK was very popular to compress modules/music with. It have about 15-20 packers which is made to compress anything as good as possible. XPK unpack unpacks any of those with only 1 library. Deliplayer in Windows have internal XPK unpacker as far as i remember. The most important feature for many would be UpNp or DLNA support thou. I used "Cast Screen" to TV/Stereo with Chromecast and Droidsound, but Google Chromecast is sadly buggy in this mode. It works for awhile, then lags. Native Upnp would make Droidsound work with 100's of media apps/servers for TV/Stereo. Its then possible to use Windows, Chromecast, KODI, XBMC, Android, Raspberry etc. as output for modules. :)

  41. staticanimal-avatar

it's a great modules/videogame music player, but i'm having terrible issues skipping through the songs with the volume keys using the physical button music control mod for xposed on a lollipop touchwiz rom. sometimes, the tracks skip to the next after a split second after pressing the button, but sometimes, it doesn't skip at all, takes way longer or only skips when i turn the screen on again. edit: this issue has been fixed in the unofficial update (1.664)

  42. Christopher Chan-avatar

    Christopher Chan

What is it with chiptune players and nonstandard interfaces? What's so hard about including a standard eject button to launch a file browser?

  43. Ryan White-avatar

This player not only fixes some of the shortcomings of the original droidsound, but also adds a plethora of features and additional vgm formats as well.

  44. Alec Barr-avatar

I've tried this with almost everything from atari to GameCube and ps2 music in native formats and it works. I would like to see an Eq added soon though.

  45. Ale. Diaria-avatar

it won't let me add file nor folders nor nothing. only works with the examples.....

  46. Ricardo Saraiva-avatar

Maybe a refresh in terms of GUI. Material design should be on the roadmap.

  47. Mohammed Khoory-avatar

    Mohammed Khoory

Just awesome. And the author is awesome for listening to feedback too

  48. Mathew Valente-avatar

The crashes I was having seemed to resolve themselves. Seems to work well now but hopefully it won't try to update the database again since that's where the crashes took place

  49. Apple-avatar

With the new update that was released a month or so ago, it takes a long time, even a few minutes to open PSF or USF files, while the old version would load these instantly. Had to delete my PS2 directory because this was such a problem. Also the loop forever feature was removed. Is there any way to remedy this, particularly the former?

  50. Daniel Loughridge-avatar

    Daniel Loughridge

I have looked all over for a player that would properly see and play the various mini* videogame music formats. This one does...and quite well. Setting a new folder can be a tad confusing but can be worked out. Thanks for your hard work guys.

  51. Claude Freeman-avatar

Plays almost every music format under the sun. If it had AdLib Tracker 2 and EdLib support...

  52. Sonic blurman-avatar

I see you guys added the official USF,PSF and gsf plugins. Great job, no need for modo or minepsfplayer anymore. Just happy to see N64 support.

  53. Jarrod Drobot-avatar

I just wish it had the ability to turn off looping, so it will stop playing at the end of a playlist. pretty much perfect otherwise!

  54. A Google user-avatar

Droidsound-E is a player to be rivaled. With an easy to navigate UI, colors easy on the eye, and support for many formats, some quite obscure, it is a choice I found easy to make over other players on the play store.

  55. emily lostmyhead-avatar

    emily lostmyhead

Literally everything i was looking for. I can even convert on the fly for ringtone use.

  56. Szymon Kosecki-avatar

Great player with good modland integration

  57. Ed Byrne-avatar

After upgrading, playlists were not browseable, and I had issues with UADE players causing a crash. An uninstall and reinstall fixed it, and everything works great now. I love having the playlists on their own screen, makes them much easier to reference. Edit: I saw the clear cache suggestion in the manual, but didn't realize it referred to the Android application manager, I only did the clear option in the Droidsound settings. That was probably the issue.

  58. Kyle Zhou-avatar

I've been looking for an app like this for ages. It plays every file I throw at it, whether it be an s3m or a mini2sf file. Furthermore, it's open source! What more can you ask for?

  59. lybxl psv-avatar

OK, tried the beta version. Works fine :) From the looks of it, it reloads bassmidi everytime I change music, causing 30 sec delay on huge soundfont. On old bass midi player (the ones from bassmidi android zip) there wasn't any delay except when loading the soundfont at startup which also took 30 second. So, any possibilities to reuse bassmidi when changing to another midi file? EDIT : yes, the soundfont is 1.57gb to be precise, CrisisGeneralMidi 3.01.

  60. Trogdorbad A-avatar

Oustanding! Thank you, now I can play my BRSTMs on mobile! I do have a question though - some of the BRSTMs I loaded in played with a ton of noise and static over them. Any idea why? I can email you some of the ones in question if you wish. It could just be because they were created in an earlier version of BrawlBox and were possibly compressed differently, but it wouldn't hurt to get an opinion from the devs if possible.

  61. Jon Garman-avatar

There's seriously a 40% correlation by chance/taste between the c64 examples you provided, and my favorites i pulled from HVSC a few years ago. Good taste sir!!

  62. The Fable Historian-avatar

    The Fable Historian

Only video game music player that can play .usf's and gsf's! That's epic. :-D

  63. glen turner-avatar

Best multi format player bar none, but where is the widget for the home screen for quick access?

  64. Stephen Bortz-avatar

Outside of being the most versatile chiptunes app on basically any platform, Droidsound-E is the most powerful music player on Android. Archive reading, playlists, song db scanning, and support for more file formats than you can shake an army of sticks at. Development is super active and bugs are handled unbelievably quick. The Dev is also very open to reasonable feature requests, which makes the app feel custom and community focused. Get this app. You won't be disappointed.

  65. Henrik Pauli-avatar

Few things: needs a wake lock (at least my tablet starts to go all choppy a minute after screen off), and i always press the green bar expecting to go up but it sorts instead

  66. Phillip Scott-avatar

Struggles sometimes with usf (n64) which is why I wanted this. Surely the phone can handle it :-) Never mind. I use another player normally for sfc/gym and it has a feature where you shake for next track. Would be a useful addition.

Better in every way than it's more stagnant cousin. Can't recommend it enough!

Plays most videogame music, NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PS1, Gameboy (Advanced), and some others. PSF plugin needs an update, but I think I read somewhere that the dev has fixed it in the next update.

  72. Tito Rios-avatar

I like it. Pros: everything cons: sf2 DOES NOT F**KING WORK

  75. aocodes-avatar

    It works perfectly now. Thanks.

  76. Craig Morris-avatar

I must say that this is a Fantastic Chip-Music player. I'm an avid ST music fan and I can confidently say that 99.9% of the music I tried worked perfectly. I was particularly impressed that the STe version of Lethal Xcess' soundtrack can now be Sid-enhanced along with the Digi-drum effects intact. Now if you excuse me, I'll be off sharing this on Twitter :)

  77. S O'Reilly-avatar

All the music from thousands of games on the NES, SNES, N64, Game Boy, GB Advance, DS, Genesis, arcade machines and older computer and tracker formats playable at last on Android. The UI is a huge improvement from the old Droidsound too! Thanks Droidmjt!

works beautifully now. had problems with startup scan taking too long for hvsc. after I let it run over night and disabled that option all is working fine now. (maybe that shouldn't be the default?) a must for every retro fan.

  85. Bill Young-avatar

For those of you that like file by file, it's fine. It plays just about anything you throw at it. It is good on the battery. It's just not good if you were looking for a music manager as well.

  86. Mindy McCalman-avatar

I used Droidsound on a BlackBerry and while I know it's not made for my device; I had to use a file manager on top of the app to play music - one song at a time. Droidsound-E takes care of all that and makes it work like it is made for it! Love being able to listen to music now continuous in a .7z file! Thank you so much :)

  87. Nick Hagman-avatar

If you have ANY issues, email the developer! He helped me, and this app is GREAT now! 5 stars!

  88. Pijus Biswas-avatar
