Use this diff utility to compare text, binary files (HexDiff), complete folders and SD-cards.
It can compare documents too (the unformated text of them).

+ And you can also store information about all the files located on your directories, to detect changed files later.

The functions of DiffTool in detail:

1. Compare 2 Texts:
- supports:
text files,
clipboard text,
source code,
text of documents (Microsoft Office and Open Office),
compiled Android XML (diff Manifest file)
- supported file formats:
ASCII, ANSI, ISO-8859-1, Latin1, CP1252,
UNICODE (UTF-8/16/32 little and big endian),
DOC, XLS, PPT, RTF(latin1 only)
- ignores differences on whitespace
- ignores end-of-line format differences (Unix,Windows,Mac)
- search for text or line numbers

2. Compare 2 Binary Files (HexDiff):
- files can have any format
- HEX and ASCII display
- checks differences on whitespace and end-of-line
- search for HEX, ASCII text or the address
- when having tons of bytes which differ, showing all details can take a while

3. Compare 2 Folders:
- checks if files are 100% BIT EXACT
(to compare by HASH run 4.)
- include or exclude subfolders
- compare the content of ZIP, JAR, EPUB and APK
- search for file names
- use double-click to compare/merge files or to merge/synchronize folders

4. Store Folders State:
- Stores the state containing the info of files located on your directories. By viewing this state later (see 5.) all files changed, since the state has been stored, are displayed.
- This feature can also be used to compare two SD-Cards. Store the state of card 1, after it, replace card 1 by card 2, view the stored state (see 5.) and all the files which differ will be shown.

5. View Stored Diff File:
- loads stored diff's, also of other Diff/Patch tools
- loads a folder state file and checks changes

6. View the Text of a File:
- views any text file, the text of supported documents and clipboard's text
- views AndroidManifest.XML of any APK

7. View a Binary File:
- Hex Viewer

8. FGrep:
- search for text in files and documents (find in files)

On the Result Screens:
- colors:
red = old content A
green = new content B
red/green = changed content
yellow = inline changes
black = identical content, A=B
- pinch-to-zoom
- export results as text
- works on big and small displays! (uses an integrated view instead of 2 panels)
- you can search for text, file names and line numbers
- press long on a file to open it
- pressing long on the left side, opens a scrollbar having diff info too

DiffTool is also an ideal source code viewer for all developers to check their changes on C, C++, HTML, PHP, C4droid *, Python ® **, AIDE ***, Java ® **** and any other source code.

Reviews From google play store

This was exactly what I was looking for to compare my README on my GitHub to that of what was on my phone. The UI needs some work. If it wasnt for the 10K downloads, I wouldnt have downloaded this because of how the UI looks. I really like how there is an option there to use what is on the clipboard. The scrolling is really touchy. I have a feeling that may be so you can quickly scroll to the bottom quicker. Zooming in and out needs work as well. Will definitely keep using this app.

The app works, however it would be nice if it could give a percent difference between two text files.

I tried to compare two audio files (a .wav file and a .flac file.) Both were about 93MB and 76MB in size respectively... and after about a minute of my phone doing things, the app crashed.

The app told me the file type *.DOCX is not supported, and that I should get a *.DOCX format file. It still told me the files were identical, but they were not the same.

Works but you cannot compare from USB OTG and the UI is a bit hard to use.

OK - love this! Only took me a minute or so to figure out the GUI - but once I did, I loved it. Exactly what I was looking for - I use Beyond Compare on my windows machines and needed something for my Android devices. I do freelance work and needed something to transfer my work product and timesheets between multiple devices to keep them all up to date! This works! Also - now with this, I only have to SyncTunes one of my Android devices (like my phone) and then use this DiffTool to update my tablets! Finally! Thanks!

Great and unique app! Nothing else like it on Play Store—or, at least for Android, anywhere else AFAIK. The dev has stated that this app is about functionality and *not* about being pretty, and I wholeheartedly agree. This thing just works.

The GUI could be better (more professional), however the app itself works OK and is very useful :-)

Easy to use and functions very well - great app! Thank you for sharing your work!

UI isn't pretty and a little unintuitive at first, but if you don't want to spend hours comparing and copying the contents of two folders and their subfolders, then this tool is a godsend!

Great tool, developer is very helpful, when a new version quit working on my phone (Oneplus 6), he responded with a test version within a day that worked.

A bit like a Unix diff output but using colours instead of symbols. Difficult to work out what the differences are and found occasions when the colouring was inaccurate.

The UI is odd, the scrolling has some odd acceleration to it... BUT, unlike the other diff apps for Android I tried? This one actually does diff two files, so it works

I'm not crazy about the UI, but it works! That's more than I can say about any other Diff tool on Google Play.

Great for smaller MB file size, tried comparing a 47mb binary file and the app crashes after the 'please wait finalizing'

Best difftool i have ever got in mobile. I know that UI is have issue but overall functions are superb. 👍👍

While UI is very different from other apps, this app provides incredibly powerful functionality that is definetly worth your time

difftool constantly keeps crashing and sometimes it dont even open

Gets the job done. Simple and easy to use.

Forget the Ui, it has excellent functionality.

Crashes on pixel 3 Won't open at all

Terrible UI, not at all suited for phones.

Not able to open this app its shows a crash massage

Useless app Doesn't even open

Can't compare samba

it even compares whitespaces

Better ui please

good job

unicode support pls

The use of no standard Android user interface conventions, and the dense and stark look and feel could only be justified by providing powerful functions and exceptional performance. This app does this. It takes some effort to find out how to use, but you end up with very efficient interaction, well worth the time. I wish it handled pdf docs but for now I can get most of what I need by comparing these by using binary/octal mode. Power users, especially those familiar with Linux diff, will be right at home, but Dev spent considerable effort making this app usable by a large segment of more advanced Android users.

It works, I'll give it that. The UI is horrible though. The entire UI scales when zooming. The default zoom is useless. The window scrolls faster than it is dragged which is a nightmare for precision work. But it does work.

Don't go by the ratings. This app works exactly as promised. UI might be a bit wonky for some but the app itself is exceptional

not useful to manage a file backup!

Couldn't get it to open. Crashes on start.

Doesn't work. Force close

Simply crashes all the time on latest Android.

App is ok but Interface...

Crash on start

won't open, instant crash.

it is amazingly useful

Great program, does exactly what it says on the box. I prefer function over form any day of the week, as long as it's usable stop complaining. It's light on resources, space and perfect for comparing anything file/filesystem related. Thanks Ludwig

Can't get more straight forward and functional than this. Get it.

Incorrect text file comparison, hard navigation between dirrefence's lines and hard to see added lines in "New" file.

needs overhaul ... offers delete options when results appear but app doesn't acquire 'external' sd card permissions when files not inernal. results scroll poor. folder path on selection screens spolit by "..." when path is too long.

The user interface looks like it was made in paint, and scrolling through any menus or large files is very hard to do

Should allow for su access to compare against system folders. Also, needs a lot of improvement on the UI.

doesn't show unicodes properly

It's a great app... But needs a feature of copying...

Free? This useful? Early beta? Pretty can come later!

Awesome! Thank you

Nice tool, poor GUI

an essential tool

First of all, let me stress that this app works as described! I'd love to give it a 5 but the interface is just terrible, and no options to speak of (e.g. treat apk files as files, not folders!)

This app is like me. It might not be the prettiest thing you have ever seen, but it does the job, and does it well. I will take hot function over hot looks ANY day! Dev: thank you SO MUCH for this cool tool.

Not very useable. Can't copy paste. Navigating a long list of files is hard, for my use. EDIT: Thanks for the reply, and for making your work available. I'm sure it will useful for someone, but doesn't suit my needs.

Needed to compare two text files. Found this and downloaded. Within seconds had compared and confirmed the one expected difference ... and highlighted really nicely (before/after). Brilliant!

While I could figure out how to use the app intuitively, I could not understand the output. I'm trying to compare two directories with a couple of hundred files in them. A side by side list would be ideal. This was just too tough to figure out.

Is there any option to save the differences between 2 text files ? Edit: looks like it combines the 2 files in 1, I just want to extract/save the difference .. thank you

The UI makes the app feel really old, but I'm honestly not sure how I'd change it. It's really intuitive and easy to use, though, which is what really matters.

I'm a longtime TextPad user and wanted to find the search in files capability for my Android tablet. DiffTool with Fgrep seems to fit the need. Play Store says the app is designed for phones. I hope it's not restricted against Android tablets.

Works well, except I wanted the option to retain the original file dates when copying to a backup; now, all copied files are dated to the time of copy.

Great app to compare and debug! Closest thing to Meld.

Nice app. Light weight. Is it possible to select the diff between the files?

Nice application. Need some more improvement in the functionality. While we select the option to remove the identical files, it only removes them from view alone. Physically the duplicate files still continue to exist on the device.

A tried comparing hand written file and a notepad txt document... It showed errors in the whole work.... As I think ur app just can compare the to same type text document

The best diff app, great support

While the results were confusing for me, not nicely listed in a pretty gui(dual columns), the popup menu that happened after the results was good enough to action a workable solution, so it gets a thumbs up. In any event, there is hardly anything like this in the play store, so your choices are really limited. This one is free while "file compare" costs if you want to compare folders.

A must have and an only if it's kind App. Nice work, Keep it up👌👍. Phone: Lenovo K3 Note K50a40 (Lollipop).

This works very well the only one on the market that actually works

good enough

I was way confused how to comapre my contact backups (which are automaticaly generated by sms contact backup software i hv in my phone) and get a unique no i deleted several months ago and did not remember the name too. This app compared on the fly and give the changes in colours and arrows helpd to jump between changes it had and did not hang at all . Beter then file compare software . way stable.. but interface is old school but gets the job done fantastically. Thanku got the girl that i deletd in anger.

I got a black screen

In my PC I like to use "Beyond Compare", in Android: "Diff Tool", the Best Comparison Tool for android! Thanks for the amazing App!!!

1- navigation is slippery and Buttons appear to have no activity 2- UI is ugly Update: "Buttons appear to have no activity" means they do not change their appearance whether being pressed or not. So the user may not be sure if he has pressed a button or not.

Crashes on start! Waste of band.

On startup it immediately goes to a black screen and just sits there even after waiting >10 minutes. Closed and restarted the app—same result. This is on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 running Android 5.0.2. Update: The dev is very responsive so chances are good for a fix soon. Adding another star. Update: The dev was very responsive, but couldn't determine why this app and a test module he sent go to black screen on my device. Are any of the other Tab S users running the English version of Android?

A great App! It has a *lot* of potential!

The user interface is a bit non-standard, but the app's functionality is outstanding!

Hopeless. A non-starter.

Superr :)

I am a big fan of diff/compare software. I use it everyday for work and research. This type of software is crucial to android programming and most other things. The problem is that most people don't know software and apps like this exist. I have been using BC for years and had always hoped that someone would come out with a great diff app for Android that was worthy. Thank you soooooo much. ---h311s|dr0id---

I really like that it works and doesn't give any hassle. But I dislike pretty much every single choice in the design of the UI. I guess I'm picky.

thank you ludwig for such an useful tool. i needed to compare 2 text files and it did it perfectly. but since you display the comparison text, please allow copying it in order to do a manual, selective patch. i meant to copy text from the right column, without the pluses and line numbers. thanks again, alex.

Now it works on my S5 with Android 5.0! :)

Needs a merge feature, otherwise good.

It works, but the interface could be more integrated and friendlier: horizontal view could show longer lines (now it just turns upside down), the font could be better (there's an option to select ttf file, but why not just use system font?). File listing could also use system widgets.

Hi, I am not usually one to this critical unless it is from a big developer like a social network; however this app has trouble responding to touch and making selections on my Galaxy S3. Also there doesn't seem to be a way of adjusting how files are compared? By date, by content, by hash? Pressing the back button just once quits the app? Usually an app will warn if you press too many times just before it quits... "diff" results are very basic and unbundled un- informative. If I can help in anyway please ask

Text compare worked, good job!

The best free compare-app for text files I have found so far, and the best when I am offline from my PC. Only the font looks a little strange, maybe a non-proportional font would work better. Thanks!

Been looking for years for a decent F|C tool, this one is so much more than simply "decent"... it's actually excellent! I don't lightly give 5⭐s to an App— I've been fighting rating "inflation", (which dilutes the rating system...) since my first smartphone, a Droid Incredible™ and I rarely find an App worth 5⭐! That said, this App is actually worth a "5" for a rating! Difftool's footprint is minimal, the App does what it claims, and does it quickly and thoroughly, the Developer is responsive — what more can one ask from an App? The Developer does give Users more; they package a large selection of fonts as an additional APK! How great is that? If you need (or just want) a file comparison tool beyond the kindergarten-level of "duplicate|not-duplicate", this is the file comparison App you need to get!

It does work but is so awkward to use its not really worth it unless really needed. Doing this using tools on a computer is far faster and less frustrating. UI is not good, scrolling is bad. Horizontal scroll is really bad. Not what I would call user friendly.

Obviously developed by a coder with a focus on geeks and not general users. Does what is says but a fresh coat of paint would make it great.

Does not start on Galaxy Tab S.

I just want to simply compare two folders for files absences without detailed file content comparison which took endless time...
