The dictionary is useful but I don't really like the quizzes; you have to get a perfect score (and then some, sometimes) on them just to unlock the next difficulty. This is completely unnecessary, just let users play whatever difficulty they want.

Update: The pronunciation feature not working issue is still there. It kills one of the reasons to get the app. Hope it can be fixed someway in the future I bought the premium version as I liked the app. Dark mode + some inspiration from wordweb would be good. The definitions are top notch and does not have any bias whatsoever (try fascism between this and others) But, It does lack some definitions like China is mentioned as porcelain but no mention of country when the online version does mention it there! India for example also had detailed info considering the omission for China being odd. For quality, word of the day feature, audio pronunciation, thesaurus, some games I would still recommend it. Just know some definitions could be missing here It sucks the online version is more feature rich than the offline app version but that's that. Hope things get improved in the future.

Love the way this app looks and it is a constant companion ony studies. The only recommendation I would give is that there would be a larger database of words accessible. Sometimes words that I cannot find in this app are found in a simple search, ironically, from Merriam Webster.

The most annoying feature of this app is when my finger accidently touches a word in the definition and it takes me to another page. HIGHLY ANNOYING! I am not lazy. I can type the word; I don't need to tap the word. If they don't fix this then this app is garbage.

At its core, there are only two distinct parts to judge; the data and the UI. The data; selected entries, definitions, synonyms, etc. are fine. It's serviceable and, as always, a couple of steps behind Oxford. For the UI, though, M-W can't even be bothered with something as basic as themes, or a dark mode. Do you get migraines or have light sensitivity? Too bad. M-W can't be troubled. Need to be cautious about battery life? Not M-W's issue. A dictionary. The most simple UI to make. So lazy.

A tremendous resource inside a great app. Ad free is worth a few dollars. Games are a good beginning. Hope they continue to develop. After enjoying Merriam-Webster's podcast, Word Matters, for as many months as it's been running, am really glad I downloaded this. Well done, all the way around.

This used to be a good app until it quit allowing you to type in the word you were looking for in the dictionary. Now I guess you have to scroll through every word in the dictionary to find out what zebra means?

  8. Timothy Allen-avatar

    Timothy Allen

This is the ultimate dictionary app. There's nothing missing and it's easy to use. I do wish that Webster's Official Scrabble Dictionary was available on the Play Store. It's one of the things I've missed a lot since switching from iphone to android.

  9. Michael Marano-avatar

Lacks definitions found in now defunct MW 3rd Unabridged app by Paragon (MW pulled license). Annoying UI quirk dismisses keyboard after a few seconds of typing, requiring second tap in search field to resummon.

Always enjoyed this app. But from 3/21-3/26 2021 it began crashing. Tried everything but finally had to run updates and now it's fine again.
