precise location (GPS and network-based)
Allows the app to get your precise location using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or network location sources such as cell towers and Wi-Fi. These location services must be turned on and available to your device for the app to use them. Apps may use this to determine where you are, and may consume additional battery power.

This used to be my favorite app. I used it for my outdoor job and motivated half of my coworkers to get it too. The last few months had reported significantly less accurate reports, but I assumed it was a bug they'd fix. Then I heard they're limiting its access to iOS, I was crushed. This was a poor business decision and betrayed a very loyal cliente. In theory, I would've paid a little more money if it meant I could maintain my subscription, but that's a moot point now. It's too bad...

Do NOT download! This *was* the very best weather app I've ever used. It had all the features I wanted & found its weather predictions to be much more accurate than other apps I've tried. I was happy to be a paid subscriber. But a couple of weeks ago I opened the app & was confronted with an alert Dark Sky sold out to Apple, & effective July 1, 2020 the app will no longer work on android. I'm angry. Now I'm searching for another app with similar capabilities. Frustrating. Thanks, Dark Sky.

  3. Jeff Conley-avatar

After a friend recommended this, I quickly subscribed to the paid version. This has been a great app with wonderful features and excellent accuracy. Over the years I've recommended it to many friends. Some of them purchased the subscription also. It is therefore extremely disappointing that the developer is choosing to abandon their longtime supporters. Apple's slap in the face to the people who funded Dark Sky, has resulted in them losing a family Apple music subscription.

Its been said plenty of times already, but I don't think it can be stressed enough.. i used to love this app and its accuracy! As a motorcyclist, it was nice to know when you were going to encounter bad weather. I cannot believe they are restricting their content to JUST iPhone users.. I will miss the app, but I'm sure something better will come along.

  5. Tina M-avatar

The fact that this went from a 5 star app to a 1 star app says what you need to know. This used to be the best weather app, period. Heck, I'll even go on record saying it was the best app period. It did what it said it did, it did it accurately, and it did it with a good interface and no ads. I would have gladly paid three times as much as I do. That's garbage now that we are no longer allowed to use it. I'm keeping it long enough to get my refund.

  6. Chris Anderson-avatar

This was my favorite weather app. It is easy to use, with a minimalistic, uncluttered design. The precipitation forecasts are spookily accurate and make me feel like at least one part of "Back to the Future Part II" had come true. Unfortunately, the developers sold the app to Apple, who have decided to discontinue the Android version. Apple makes a couple of Android apps - Apple Music and Beats. They could keep making this one, and I'd keep paying for it. But they've chosen to take the low road.

  7. Jeremy Garcia-avatar

Not especially accurate, but I liked the layout and widgets. Now acquired by Apple, and not only are they axing the app itself on Android, but also their API, affecting all the smaller weather apps relying on them as a source. Forced me find Today Weather, which not also has a nice layout and details, but more detailed widgets, and can select from sources (including AccuWeather which more accurate for my area), rendering this app redundant. Sad to see it go, but found better app. Silver lining.

  8. Josh Crosby-avatar

Another fantastic app ruined by a corporate monopoly. Don't waste your time downloading it, since Apple will be disabling it this Summer. It was great to have a clean, functional weather app not bogged down by extra junk and ads, but Apple had to go and ruin that for everyone. They're even shutting down use of the API that countless other weather apps use next year. Ridiculous.

Was by far the best weather app, easy to recommend and well worth the subscription. After being bought by Apple, they announced they'd no longer support the large android userbase. Utterly ridiculous when they say their goal is to help as MANY people as they can stay dry and safe. Horrible anti competitive move and really shows how much this company prides its values.

  10. Kay Goluska-avatar

I too have been a loyal user to Dark Sky. It has been an amazing weather app and the best one in my experience. This acquisition by Apple and the subsequent removal from loyal Android users is a terrible marketing move in my opinion. Instead of making me want to have an apple device, ever, it has left a bad taste in my mouth. Rotten apple, excuse the pun. So, do not even download. It will just be a disappointment come July.

  11. Aaron Louthan-avatar

Formerly an amazing weather app that I used for years... Now that Apple has taken over and is discontinuing support for their API, website, and Android it is near worthless to me. I have an iPad as well, but cannot in good conscience continue to use on there given the decision to remove all other support. Sad that Google will publish their apps on multiple platforms yet Apple insists on keeping all their applications in their own ecosystem.

  12. David Simon-avatar

Finally found an app worth paying for, only for them to sell out to Apple 6mo. later under the guise of "helping more people". In actuality all they've done is sold out all of the Android users that helped fund this app and make it worth using. There are a whole lot of people that will never go back to using Apple products, so they sure aren't helping any of us...I suspect that the only people that are being helped are the developers with the giant check Apple wrote them to sell out the rest

  13. Schuldig L-avatar

I loved this app, I really did. Dark Sky blew every other weather app right out of the water. I was more than happy to pay for a subscription and would recommend it to everybody I knew but it looks like the devs have sold out and moved into the walled garden of Apple. May your app rot in the deepest pits of hell.

Sold to the other side. It's sad to see that the best apps sell out and leave their users hanging, especially after paying for years. It was THE best weather app which is why I subscribed, and probably could have paid a little more for the yearly subscription. Literally an app I depended on for Florida's crazy weather! Bye Felicia!

  15. Kent Seaton-avatar

I have no clue what happened to this app. It went from "it can't be beat" to "slightly better than a virus". I'm guessing the team behind darksky got bought out by some really crappy software company that tries to profit off users telemetry. Even the default weather frog in the vanilla load of Android is better than this. Hard avoid.

  16. Josh B-avatar

*05/08/2020 Changed from 5 star to 1 because this app has been bought by Apple and will no longer be available to Android users come July 1 2020, but is still allowing Android users to buy a yearly subscription they won't be able to use. *Original: Simple, straightforward weather app. I like that it gives me just what I need in a compact layout. No scrolling through videos of weather halfway around the world or intrusive ads (*cough* weather channel app.) Customizeable notifications rock too.

Not kidding, this app saved my wedding. The photographers reassured my wife that the weather would be fine and would sneak her inside before the light drizzle came. It was so accurate. I had to buy it and use it all the time. But now they betrayed their loyal Android users. Too bad, especially since I paid for it.

  18. CedricThe Bull-avatar

Subscribed for a while now, was the best weather app around. Now off to the land of the sheep with a total disregard for your loyal Android users. How is restricting this to one platform "helping as many people as we can stay dry and safe"?! Such a shame, such a poor, ill thought out decision.

  19. J.M. Hardin-avatar

I really love this app, but it's been bought by Apple and they're killing its availability on Android in July. It has the best interface in information of any weather app I've seen on Android, but don't waste your time on it. Sure, you can see how good a weather app can be, but why set yourself up for heartbreak? Yes, The Weather Channel and WeatherBug want you to believe they have the best weather apps, but they're both filled with fluff and ads, making you wade through muck to find out what you really need before you head out the door to go about your day (when we're not being asked to stay at home). If you want a great weather app you can check this out, but for long term use I've switched to Today Weather. It gives you all you really need without a lot of fluff, and you can even use Dark Sky's data until Apple kills the API at the end of 2021.

Well it was good. But now it seem that after July 2020 it's will no longer be supported on Android. Good job selling out to Apple. It's probably why your service has sucked lately. This weather app was the best when I first download it. It's why I paid for the subscription, it actually was pretty accurate. Now I get an email saying you went to Apple, you went to the dark side. Apple = Shynet.

  21. Frank Twe-avatar

1 star. I really liked this app, it is accurate and precise with a great user interface. I've spent hours watching fronts move on the maps. I've never spent money on a weather app before, but this was a no-brainer. I recommended this to many friends and they subscribed as well. This was my go-to, at-a-glance weather report, to the point where it's the first app I open *every morning*. However, I will not be able to use it come July, as I have an Android. You lost a very loyal user! :(

  22. Ryan Dean-avatar

I've loved this app for 3 years. Never even had a dedicated weather app before this. However the developer has decided that to "help get this app to as many people as possible" sold to Apple. So now, all of it's loyal Android users, who have been paying the company for years no longer have access to it. It's now available to less people, Apple users already had the ability to get this app. Now everyone else doesn't.

  23. Rachel Burt-avatar

Loved this app, very useful. I used it almost daily. With them partnering with Apple, it is no longer going to be available to so many people. It's a shave, especially considering one of their reasons was to reach more people. How do you reach more people when you're only available to a specific set. Very, very disappointed in this decision.

  24. rackerbam-avatar

App is getting discontinued on Android and only operating on IOS. There are a million other reviews expressing their discontent and I wanted to add another because this app was amazing and was very accurate. It's hard to find another weather app that is as high quality. Very disappointed that I can no longer use it.

I have used the app for the past several months and even purchased the premium service. It's been nice and useful. After finding out today 3/31 that the developers have sold out to Apple and that android would no longer be supported and that service to the current android subscribers would end effective July 1, 2020. It isnt worth using or downloading the app. Way to let the android base go! If I find out that this is incorrect, I will be more than willing to update this review.

  26. Tyler Wilson-avatar

I absolutely love this app. I've been subscribed for about a year now. I'm the "weather guy" in my circle of friends and family. I used this app to keep us all in the know and up-to-date with what to expect. The hyper-local weather and notifications with precipitation graphs are beautiful and reliable. The app makes watches and warnings easy to spot and read, keeping us informed no matter where we were. You form a bond of trust with your weather app, and it feels like that was violated here.

  27. Nat Paige-avatar

Dark Sky was by far the best weather app for android, period. It was a no brainer to buy the premium edition. As someone interested in weather patterns and photography, I used this app constantly. Now, it has been acquired by Apple and is being pulled from android in July. It is an incredible move by Apple, but indeed a disgraceful one. Unfortunately, I cant help but give this the lowest review I possibly can. I will happily never visit this app on iOS. Cheers.

  28. Melanie Denyer-avatar

Loved this app, subscribed from the day of first download, would have happily paid more. Recommended it to dozens of people and have used it so much since. But apparently, Dark Sky don't care about their Android customers in the least, because they've just been bought and seemingly closed by Apple. Well, cheers for that. I still won't be buying an iPhone. I will be looking for a good weather app with management that care about their customers on all platforms.

This was by far the best weather app that was available to Android, so good in fact that I bought the premium version of it. The one star review comes from the fact that apple bought the app and is going to remove it from non apple devices. I am extremely disappointed in the fact that many users of Dark Sky will no longer be able to use it and the greed of the Apple Corporation is to blame.

  30. Matt Turner-avatar

TL;DR - Dark Sky bought by Apple, will stop supporting Android on July 2020. Save your money. It's been quite a good app and the layout is quite nice but shortly after purchasing a yearly subscription in March of 2020, I found out they were bought by Apple and will stop supporting Android devices on July. I know it's cheap for ~$2 a year for what you get but it's nonetheless quite frustrating to see an app go away that works quite well. Would have gladly paid more to keep it on Android.

  31. Owen Myers-avatar

Fantastic app, very accurate and fairly priced for the premium version. I'm giving the app two stars because DarkSky has decided to move to Apple and leave android phones in the dust. Even though I'm getting a refund along with everyone else, I think it's a poor business decision to be single-platform exclusive. I would continue to recommend this to everyone had they continued to support the app on android. For shame.

  32. Allan Wilson-avatar

Great app reasonably accurate, sometimes gets it totally wrong, but that's weather for you. Give us more to report e.g. current temp,, frost, etc It's been great having Dark Sky app but absolutely gutted they've sold out to Apple, A better idea for them would be sell out to android ( the best operating system for phones)

  33. Brian Cook-avatar

This was my favorite weather app and I am a premium subscriber. However I now regret ever supporting this group. They claim that their "goal has always been to provide the world with the best weather information possible, to help as many people as we can". What a lie! Nothing wrong with maximising your profits just be honest about it! It's obvious you are just a bunch of Apple snobs who used Android users to make it big! May Apple treat you as badly as you have us!

  34. marcus peckham-avatar

What! Sold out to Apple and will no longer be available on Android! What a let down, it was a very good app. Very disappointed with Dark Sky for letting customers down and annoyed with Apple. UPDATE: Just discovered Meteogram Weather Widget as an alternative, very happy with it. Also has a link to Windy too!

  35. Jonathan Ward-avatar

I absolutely LOVED this app. I have been a subscriber for years!! I would very regularly tell people who didn't have it about the app. Very often they would download it. After seeing today that they have sold out to Apple and will no longer be supporting they're very loyal Android, users I am furious. I only hope this was their version of an April fool's joke.

  36. Macon Norris-avatar

This would have been a 5 star review. I've used and trusted DarkSky for years, both on Android and on my work computer, and it's my favorite weather app. BUT DarkSky has made the decision to join Apple, and in the process basically told all their Android users, even the ones who PAID, like me, that we'll just get shut down after June. Pathetic.

  37. Bryant Beers-avatar

I've been a dark sky user for years, and have recommended the app to many of my friends. It's one of the best weather apps around, and it'll be hard to find a replacement due to them selling out to Apple. Very bad decision on their part to cut off all Android users from both the app, as well as shudder the API. Giving this a 1 star in the hopes that some dev sees this. Maybe something good will come from 2020 eventually???

This had been my go to app ever since I had my first Android. It was also the only app I actually paid a subscription for because it quite literally offers everything and extremely accurate data and information. I'm astonished that yet again, apple has swooped in and took advantage of something that could be great for both parties, but instead shutting down our service and moving to a new API just for Apple consumers? Wow... Talk about money hungry. You have lost a loyal user due to selfishness.

  39. James Quinn-avatar

I've been an avid user of this app for years, and have gladly paid the subscription cost to support an indy developer. I'd happily pay two or three times the amount. I work outdoors, and Dark Sky has been an invaluable tool. To be told that the app will shut down, because the Devs have sold it to Apple, is tantamount to saying my money is no longer good enough. Apple don't sell phones, they sell needlessly overpriced status symbols. This will be dark sky's legacy for its Android fans. Congrats.

  40. Wyatt Drake-avatar

I love this weather app. It really does have the best UI you'll find on the Play Store and there's no constant ads like Weather Channel or Accuweather. However, theyre moving entirely to Apple and shutting down their Android app. Don't get this! You'll only set yourself up for disappointment!

  41. CJ Sutton-avatar

Great but please let us specify what adverse weather notifications we receive. Currently it's all or none. I don't want to turn them completely off cause I want to know about storms but I couldn't care less about the rip tide notification that I get nearly every single day. I care about unavoidable weather.

I almost never review apps & guarantee this won't get read by the development team but I just don't understand how they can say they want to "get this app to as many people as possible" by taking an app currently available to both platforms, & taking away access to more than half of the worldwide smartphone market. Congrats on your payday, I guess, but don't make it sound like your doing the world a favor. People are smarter than that.

  43. UltraNeros-avatar

I'm disappointed they are going to iOS only. This is the only weather app I actually like. It's simple and straight forward unlike the other confusing icon-themed garbage weather apps. I want the facts not a pretty interface to gock at. I'm disappointed this is going away and I wish there was a way to keep the app on Android.

  44. Aidan Payne-avatar

I'm pretty angry that DarkSky gas sold out, but have hope everyone! DarkSky doesn't collect any data themselves, they just use raw weather data from NOAA and use their own algorithm to get their predictions, so it's pretty likely that with them leaving a gap in the market someone else will come in and either just copy their system or re-develop something similar.

  45. Kelvin Brent-avatar

This used to be my favorite weather app of all time, then I get the message that it will be shutting down on Android, I was so disappointed. I would've been willing to pay a few extra bucks for the yearly subscription if it meant keeping it on Android. I guess it's time to say goodbye to this app.

  46. Marcey Samson-avatar

I purchased the premium Dark Sky when it first came out and recommended it to my family, friends and colleagues. I checked it 10 times a day during storm season. I reported data and helped make you better. But you are dumping us android users because you sold out to Apple. I hate I ever supported and depended on you and I'm so disgusted that you care so little for your user base.

  47. RocketFox!-avatar

Edit; WAS the best weather app. Now they've been bought by Apple, and are discontinuing service to android in a couple months. Don't bother downloading if you're new to this app. You'll just have to find a new one soon. GG Dark Sky devs. I'm sure you're laughing all the way to the bank. Capitalism rewards greed instead of providing the best service to as many people as possible. F*** off to Apple then. In the meantime, pull this down so new users don't get attached to a dead app.

  48. A Google user-avatar

Easy to use. Accurate. Easy to read. I bought the premium and glad I did. Update: I just discovered Apple bought this app and Android is being dropped like a raging skin disease. I subscribe to 2 weather apps and this was one. I cannot express my disappointment at this turn of events. Off to look for a replacement. Mar 31, 2020

  49. Michael Creane-avatar

I have loved this app for years. I subscribed immediately when the option became available for Android users and have continued to do so each year. I am leaving a one star review not because they sold to Apple (I couldn't care less), but because they allowed their Android user base to be abandoned in the process. Your users CLEARLY took a back seat to your wallet. Shameful.

  50. Ken Hunt-avatar

Devastated - iOS only. Announced 31/3/20 that as of July '20 Darksky will only be available on Apple, and that Android is being discontinued. I've been a long time subscriber with an s9, and it's simply the best weather app going. It's going to be a difficult app to follow, and so disappointed they've sold out. Update - the ratings for this app have dropped from 4.7 to 1.3 in 4 days. That should tell the devs that they have sold out, and it'll take them a very long time to regain any trust.

Loved this app, but... Dark Sky is being bought by Apple and will no longer work on Android by the end of July. “Our goal has always been to provide the world with the best weather information possible, to help as many people as we can stay dry and safe, and to do so in a way that respects your privacy,” Dark Sky co-founder Adam Grossman writes in the post. Explain to me how that enables them to "help as many people as we can?" By removing access for potentially millions of people?

  52. Colton Beery-avatar

Became inaccurate recently. Kept predicting temperatures a good 10 degrees cooler than they actually were, so I ended up sweating because I'd bring a jacket. Also, just a little bit grumpy about the recent announcement about how the Android app is getting shut down. Used it for years, so this feels like a slap in the face. "The app will no longer be available for download. Service to existing users and subscribers will continue until July 1, 2020, at which point the app will be shut down."

  53. Matt Phillips-avatar

I was so excited to find this app a few months ago when IBM destroyed Weather Underground after I'd used it for 7 years. Today I learned Apple bought Dark Sky and will be removing it from Android. Screw you, Apple. I hate you so much. Now I have to find another weather app that's actually worth having. Much easier said than done. This sucks. Apple sucks. Devs, you suck. Give me my effing refund.

  54. Chris Plumley-avatar

Sad to hear that this app will no longer be available for Android users. I like the app and have subscribed for some years, but feel let down that for them to achieve this - "Our goal has always been to provide the world with the best weather information possible" - they've chosen to abandon Android users all together, which seems to me a strange and nonsensical contradiction.

  55. David Boothe-avatar

Like others, I paid for Dark Sky when Weather Underground stopped working. (Had a paid subscription to WU for years.) Dark Sky has been excellent. How extremely disappointing that they're drinking the iOS coolaid. From the Dark Sky blog: “Our goal has always been to provide the world with the best weather information possible, to help as many people as we can stay dry and safe…” Really?? When the worldwide market share for Android is almost 4 times that of iOS?

  56. Chastity Adams-avatar

I loved using this app for keeping up with the weather on long motorcycle trips. After finding out that it sold out to Apple and is leaving its Android user base behind, I have to give it a one-star review. I would give it a negative 5 if it were possible. I am beyond disappointed/upset about this inconsiderate treatment of at least half of the app's users. It's a huge slap in the face for people like my rural riding group, who live in an area that is virtually inaccessible for Apple products.

  57. Mark Haferkamp-avatar

This was a great app. But Apple bought it and is shutting it down in 2 months. They says their "goal has always been to provide the world with the best weather information possible", but they aren't doing that by ending service on the world's biggest platforms (web & Android). Original review: Good weather app, decent interface, and no ads. Biggest problem is that it locks government-sourced severe weather alerts behind the paywall. For alerts, I use and recommend the official FEMA app instead.

  58. Lisa Severn-avatar

This was by far the best weather app, especially once they'd sorted the problem of upgrading with a premium subscription. Unfortunately they've sold out to Apple and this app will soon disappear from Android. I'm not going to buy an iPhone just for a weather app so we'll all have to find something else

  59. Melissa M-avatar

Was excellent, until.... This was my favorite weather app. It's super accurate with the rain forecast and every other forecast you can think of. Except now they're moving to the IOS/Apple Software ONLY and will no longer be available on Android. Which upsets me a lot because I've used the service for 3 years and I just find it unacceptable that you would have abandoned half of your Market.

  60. Nick Houseago-avatar

Welp. Gone from 5 stars to none. Guess it doesn't really matter as it's being deleted soon anyway. I switched to Dark Sky when weather timeline stopped supporting it, because it became unreliable (was more likely to be raining when the app said sunny). Dark sky has been great, I have been subscribed since I switched, and have started using it as my go-to app elsewhere as well. And now Apple are canning it. Well done Apple. Just guaranteed that I won't ever buy anything from you, as you've proven you don't care about >50% of the world. Anyone know of an accurate (UK) weather app? Hopefully the next one I use won't get scrapped.

  61. Amber Fleming-avatar

LOVE THIS APP! But thanks to Apple buying it, I will no longer have access to it 😭 I don't understand why something like this can't be available to both apple and android. Sorry, Apple but your phones are way over priced and break to easy! Love my android and sticking with it! Wish i could say the same with this app! Dark Sky you have broke millions of peoples hearts!!! You will forever be missed on android!

  62. Tracy Bennett-avatar

This was my all-time favourite app but now they've sold us out. To Dark Sky say that 'Our goal has always been to provide the world with the best weather information possible...There is no better place to accomplish these goals than at Apple. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to reach far more people, with far more impact, than we ever could' Android users make up around 75% of the market share, but we've been dumped so thay can reach more people? Very disappointed.

Best app ever to be shut down by Apple. I love Dark Sky and subscribed right after trying it. It's been amazing. There are no words for how aggravating it is to watch it be bought out and immediately shut down. I hope the developer takes the fat payout and makes another better app just like this one! Sad to go.

  64. Ben Smith-avatar

I used to use Weather Underground. As I need up to the minute weather reports. But when Weather Underground stopped working. I found this app! And wow it works. Brilliant I've even paid the subscription. Worth every penny! Until today 31st March. App has been brought out by Apple and who are cancelling and removing the app on 1st July 2020 Not happy doesn't come close! 😠

  65. SJ-avatar

Dark Sky had been my favorite weather app BY FAR for a long time. Incredible minute by minute accuracy. Incredibly solid and reliable Android app. Too bad Apple bought it and Dark Sky now only runs on iPhone. Too bad for Apple, that is. Zero chance I would use an iPhone just for Dark Sky. 100% chance I will not forget this, Apple. Check out AccuWeather. Has the same kind of minute-by-minute accuracy and is solid and reliable.

  66. Wes Lentz-avatar

I spent years finding a good weather app. This one was it. But now the devs are "are reaching more users" by dropping all Android support. When your service was up for sale with cutting off over half the smartphone users in the world as an option, something tells me that was a lie

  67. Jeffrey Nedley-avatar

I originally gave this app 5 stars hands down because of how well it has performed and worked out for me. However, now learning that this app has been bought out by Apple and that they are killing not only the android app but the web API too. This is an absolute slap to the face to everyone who has LOYALLY used this weather service to get accurate weather information for years. I am very disappointed in the decision to allow apple to "better" the exposure of your weather services.

  68. Roshan Jacob-avatar

So I love this app and everything that's it's helped me with. If this is really becoming iOS only, I would be very upset. I've paid money for years for this app and it's a shame if it becomes Apple only. EDIT: Thanks darksky for jumping on the bandwagon. It's been a good 2 years.

  69. Candice Winzen-avatar

I've been using this app for over 4 years. I loved it at first, was in FL and it was spot on about the crazy downpours. Traveling back to Cali it was still just as great, just didn't need it as often because what's rain? Past year or so it's been pretty off. It'll be pouring rain and app says sunny. I know SoCal weather can be strange but come on. Today I get notified that the app will shut down July 1st because Apple now owns it and it doesn't want to play with android anymore. Bunch of 💩

  70. Thomas Feely-avatar

Brilliant app, now that it's bought by apple, they're shutting down the service on android. In the message they state that it's great because all they ever wanted to do was get accurate weather to as many people as possible. How do they accomplish this? By stopping providing the service to the entire android user base. Despicable.

  71. SuperSquishy !-avatar

This was such an amazing app I loved it an got so many people to download and even subscribe to it. Now I find out that they sold out to Apple 3/31/20 and are removing it from android. That's a really sad choice that they made. You would think that would have been one of the stipulations but hey I guess money CAN make you do anything. This was a 5 star app, don't waste your time anymore to get it!

  72. Wilkie Braten-avatar

I've been using this app w. Premium for almost a year now, it has impressed me with great features & up to the minute accuracy. I can't blame for selling to a larger company.. But why discontinue support when you already have the code written? In the past I have recommended this to many friends & Rate 5 stars.. Now that I'm back on the search for a Premium weather App.

I've paid for this app for a couple years now. The only app that I pay for a subscription to. As all the others have noted, this will no longer be available for Android after July. Major bummer because it's the only weather app I've found that I like. Cheers!

  74. Kai Cooper-avatar

Was a great app and service, until it was bought by (cr)Apple. It has become one of their proprietary technologies now, and as such, they're kicking Android development and support to the curb. (Way to sell-out like WU, Dark Sky!) All app & API functionality will cease on the 1st of July, 2020. But hey, us subscribers are all getting refunds at least. Woop-de-doo. A whole $2.99. Don't waste your time, money, or storage space on this. 1Weather and WeatherBug are your best bets, now. 🤬 you, 🍏.

  75. James Hague-avatar

Amazing app, but unfortunately they've sold out solely to apple and removing it from android, I've used this app for years and relied on it, why can't it continue to exist on both platforms??? Massively disappointed and disgusted, I hope you change your minds give them half the money back and leave it on both platforms, bad choice people at dark sky, bad choice.

This is a five-start app. I deducted two stars because they are now an Apple app and will cease being on the Android platform as of July 1, 2020. They will refund the unused portion of my subscription so I still gave them three stars. I will miss Dark Sky. They were one of the few developers that supported the Windows Phone platform when I had a Windows phone. Oh well, time to move on.

  77. Andrew Edens-avatar

loved this app on android and been a subscriber since day 1. always supported the dev team by telling my friends about how great it was and brought people over, even on iOS. unfortunately that will no longer be the case as you've abandoned your android users and sold your soul to a company that does not believe in a great product for all. enjoy your check from apple, you've lost me as a user today...

The best weather app. No ads or nonsense. Clean and fast radar. Good forecasts. Problem is they have joined Apple and are shutting down the app for the rest of their users. And I'm not willing to agree to their new terms. So, it was fun, Dark Sky, but you have joined the dark side.

  79. Patty Palmer-avatar

I understand why Apple would want to own the best weather app available....but WHY are they making it unavailable to Android users. This makes me angry and frustrated. I have used this App for quite awhile now and rely on it exclusively for weather information for myself and to watch the weather info of my family and friends. This seems so selfish of Apple to me. I would have paid more to keep this App if they had let me know. Dark Sky, you are a sell out. Apple, you are greedy.

  80. Nix-avatar

What's New? Bug fixes What's actually new? Oh we're leaving Android I am not happy with the fact that Apple bought out Dark Sky and deciding plan to remove access from using it on Android. I've been a monthly subscriber and loved the ability to set custom notification sounds to severe weather etc. This is why I don't like Apple, they restrict everything they own and don't bother about helping integrate with other devices other than their own.

A brilliant app that I have recommended to all my friends. And now they've fallen into the clutches of Apple who will end support for all Android devices, a great thank you for supporting our App by the developers. But what do you expect from a once great company (Apple) who doesn't innovate but only litigates. Thanks Devs.

I absolutely love this app...but I am loosing it. I love how in their blog post they claim that they want to give accurate and reliable weather "to as many people as possible" then in the exact same blog post they say they are shutting off Android users. Great middle finger to your users. BTW there are more Android users than Apple

  83. Tim Wald-avatar

Thanks for the update now I can put more widgets on your screen. Update waited forever to download the premium version and pay the 299 only to find out that it was bought out by Apple I will enjoy it until it's gone but I think we are being done a great disservice. This was probably the best weather app I have used on Android only to see it go by the wayside because of greed. Android offered Apple a version will they reciprocate?

  84. Don White-avatar

Selected this app to replace Arcus (my review over there explains why). Very happy so far. The user interface took a little getting used to, mainly the "transition" from a different app. Keeping an eye on accuracy, as that appears to be a concern for some. While I'm never enthusiastic about paying a yearly fee for a premium set of features, so far, the $2.99/year seems reasonable, and the 2 week "try before you buy" is helpful. 4-3-20: dropped rating from 4 stars to 1, greedy developers.

  85. Tiffany Sitlin-avatar

Very sad to see this being taken from Android. I have recommended it to many people since I came across the website on the computer. The UI is simple and packs a lot of info. Apple and Google working together like they are for Coronavirus, isn't that better?

Wonderful app. Used all the time for my business as I found it to be the most reliable. No I learn that because I have an android phone, I will not be able to use the app as of July this year. They're blog says they want to reach the world, but I guess that just means the Apple world. This is a horrible choice, they should keep the platform open. Not sure why they would expect me to buy a new phone simply for one app that's very important for my small family owned business. Very disappointed.

Loved it until now, way to abandon your loyal customers that have helped to get you where are today just to try and make a little bit more money. There are already better app than this though apple! Also already redusing the services ready for the apple switch although you say we can use it until July! It is quite funny seeing your overall rating crash to the floor 😅 🤬🍏

  88. Cody Miller-avatar

I love Dark Sky. I use their app on all of my devices, as well as pay for the API for several home brew weather projects. The acquisition by Apple and subsequent shutdown is a sad day for me. I once again get forced to jump ship to another weather app. Very disappointing. Will gladly stop telling people to purchase / use the Dark Sky platform.

  89. Charlie Chan-avatar

Extremely impressed with this application, tells me all I need to know without delays in special weather reports, it's sad to see you guys move on to the Apple Environment and I am going to miss this greatly. Cheers and I hope it goes well for the dev team there! - CC

  90. Matthew Hill-avatar

One word: Apple, Second word: Avoid. Loved this app for weather but Android users got the bad end of the stick after we had our api access to dark sky data cut off from the 1st July 2020. Was a paid subscriber but taking my business elsewhere rather than fund greedy companies that sell out.

  91. Justin D-avatar

I loved this app it's sad that Apple had buy it and take it off of Android. Best weather app I've used. Been using it for almost a year now and all my friends and family always ask me when it's going to start raining because it so good. I highly recommend it. But sadly it will be no longer with us as of July 1st

  92. Bill Larrabee-avatar

This was a great app, and the developers say they wanted to bring the best weather to users all over the world. Then, they sold out to a company that supports only a quarter of the mobile users in the world - Apple. Sellouts. Time to switch to Android, everyone. Drive these Apple-only companies and apps out of business. So much for loyalty.

  93. Ian Davison-avatar

I wanted an app that would accurately forecast the weather and give me warnings of approaching rain and give me an indication of how long it would last, this app did that in spades. Beyond disappointed that one of the best weather apps out there has been sold to Apple who have then shut it down, shameful.

  94. Larry Nelson-avatar

Now that I'm used to the idea that we Android users were basically betrayed, I do want to say thanks. I have enjoyed utilizing the app over the past couple of years, both free and premium. It has been my go to weather app for quite sometime, and yeah, I will miss having it. I did knock off 2 stars for turning your backs on those who have helped you get to where you are. Not cool.

  95. Logan Coy-avatar

I am very upset that this app is being removed from Android ! It was the only weather app I used on my phone and watch, and was the only app I was willing to pay for. Apple could easily keep it on Android and make profit from it still, very disappointed and upset

  96. Custis House-avatar

Quality of hyper-local forecasts has been declining over the past year or so, so I wasn't really bothered that APPL scooped up Dark Sky. What really irks me is that after announcing their demise, they charged me for another year's subscription! Bad show.

  97. Samuel Fehling-avatar

Honestly, one of the best weather apps I have ever used. Beautiful, colorful, accurate, everything and more. I loved this app and recommended it to everyone I knew. But it's been discontinued on Android. So, it's not worth it.

  98. Matt Dill-avatar

This is the best weather app, one of the only apps I paid for from day one. Even being bought out by Apple doesn't mean you have to end support with Android. Especially since there are exponentially more Android users in the world than iOS.

  99. Dave Dammit-avatar

Seems good so far. I'd REALLY like to see bigger widgets. Can't find one 3x2 or 4x2. Edit: on my new Motorola phone, the widgets are resizeable. 5 star app for sure. No political silliness like the Weather Channel . Update 4/11: Dropped 2 stars because they sold out to the evil Apple empire and non-communists will soon lose this app.

  100. Matthew Faas-avatar

easily was the best weather app. was more than willing to continue renewing my subscription. Just found out today that Dark Sky is selling out to Apple to make the app exclusively available on apple devices even though the app is on both platforms...
