The Virtual Hope Box (VHB) is a smartphone application designed for use by patients and their behavioral health providers as an accessory to treatment. The VHB contains simple tools to help patients with coping, relaxation, distraction, and positive thinking. Patients and providers can work together to personalize the VHB content on the patient's own smartphone according to the patient's specific needs. The patient can then use the VHB away from clinic, continuing to add or change content as needed.

Patients can use the VHB to store a variety of rich multimedia content that they find personally supportive in times of need. For example, a patient can include family photos, videos and recorded messages from loved ones, inspirational quotes, music they find especially soothing, reminders of previous successes, positive life experiences and future aspirations, and affirmations of their worth in their VHB. A patient can also collaborate with their provider to create coping cards to use in response to personal problem areas they experience. Finally, the VHB provides the patient with positive activity planning, distraction tools, and interactive relaxation exercises including guided imagery, controlled breathing and muscle relaxation.

Adding photos from library to use with photo puzzle keeps crashing the app. None of the typical expectations are present such as loaded photos from my library in a group on the app.

I really enjoy this app. I highly recommend it for any (like me) who struggles to cope with anxiety. I've been using it for about a week. The "distract me" portion of the app really comes in handy with it's mini-games. My favorite currently is Majong, however, sometimes after completing a difficult level, the page doesn't refresh to move on to the next level. When this happens, I need to manually refresh the app and subsequently lose the progress on a level I had spent sometimes well over 30 minutes on. This seems to be the main downside that I have found within the app. Please fix soon. To have such a relaxing experience and immediately be put on edge again from losing progress is really upsetting. I often need to quit the app and won't come back for hours/days because of it. Hopefully this helps the developers and anyone looking to manage their anxiety. Great app, small bugs, but that's to be expected. I highly recommend this app, nonetheless.

My therapist told me about this app a few months ago. I like it, it helps calm my mind. But recently the app hasn't been working. I cannot login with my password. I put it in and click the accept but nothing happens. I tried updating it, uninstall and reinstall but that accept option does not go through. Like it's stuck or something. Please fix this issue, I enjoy this app and would still like to use it!

I like this app. I like the coping skills cards. I like the way you have set them first, problem areas, second, emotions/ symptoms, then third, coping skills. I haven't used this app very long but refer to it every day. It needs more breathing exercises for meditation skills. Breathing meditation helps me to cope in serious situations. Like in Yoga, or some forms of Tai Chai. It opens your hearing to the other sounds around and outside of you. J.M.

this app has been really helpful to distract from the downward spiral of negative thinking. I highly recommend it. the only drawback is having a password to get into the app. there is a recovery process if you forget through establishing questions and answers. But if you forgot those, you are locked out and have to reinstall the app losing your saved stuff. not really sure why there is a password feature. seems counter productive when you are down enough as it is and trying to get yourself better

I adore the app itself. It has been so, so helpful to me for years. I will never stop telling people how great the breathing exercise is for crises. But I'm very unhappy with the recent addition of security measures. Don't get me wrong, I understand that for many people there is sensitive information stored in the app. Adding security is definitely a good thing. But it should be optional. I'm personally not worried about other people accessing the app. What I am worried about is that during a flashback or panic attack, it's often hard enough to remember the app and open it. A password makes the app semi-inaccessible during crisis. In fact, I was in crisis the first time I tried to login after the change. I simply couldn't navigate the password set up when I was struggling to breathe and ended up passing out. Please make this a well-advertised option and not mandatory.

This is an excellent app for folks in DBT. It has a lot of great mindfulness functions in it. The guided meditation is very handy especially for folks with disabilities that might have difficulty finding those sort of videos on YouTube. I only gave it 3 stars because it's requirement to input a password every single time you open the app is a HUGE impediment to folks with disabilities and people in DBT with severe anger management issues. There is no reason for this as far as I can tell.

App used to be great and helped a lot but now I can't even get to the main menu cause the login screen is completely useless. All it will let me do is enter my password but the unlock button doesn't work nor does the unlock via fingerprint or forgot password. I'd really like to not have to delete & re-download cause I have a lot of stuff on it but it seems even that doesn't help. Hopefully this gets fixed soon cause this app was really helpful when it worked.

Exceptional app for stress management. I am a mental health therapist in a busy primary care clinic, and this app is one of the best I've seen in years! Easy to use, excellent topics (relax, distract, cope, inspire) and activities that can be individualized for each client. Well done!

This app is great when it works, but there always seems to be an issue. Often times I can't get past the login screen - I enter my password, hit the login button, and nothing happens. It seems like no one is actively working on fixing it updating the app.
