Gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation are unique and distinct concepts with radically different implications for somebody’s day-to-day lived experiences, but in society they are often used interchangeably. Clarity is a mobile app that can help you gain greater insight into your gender and sexuality in a way that’s dignified and affirming.
Using Clarity, you will follow a guided experience through different aspects of self-identity. You’ll start by using a series of sliders to input where you feel you fit on the spectrums of gender identity, gender expression, and attraction. The app then aggregates this input to give you some guidance and insights. If you are questioning your identity, your self-perception may fluctuate over time as you experiment and discover what feels right and what doesn’t. As you go through this process, you can return to Clarity and update the responses.
Unlike many of the tools that are currently out there, this doesn’t just replace the previous responses, but rather adds to them, meaning that the more you use Clarity, the more accurate its assessment becomes.
Clarity is being designed with privacy, dignity, and affirmation at its core.

Great concept! Severely lacking in application of concept. Gender, expression, and attraction are not binary, nor are they simply integer lines, and the way the sliders snap to fixed positions is very inaccurate to myself. This is also very non inclusive of aspec people and non binary people as a whole. This needs a total overhaul.

Like other reviews have said, the sliders are a bit weird and only look at things in 2 ways. I suggest adding another option for attraction, where it measures the level of attraction in addition to the slider that measures who. For the aspecs out there. Otherwise, it's been a useful tool to keep track of how things fluctuate and what the actual average for me is.

I was expecting a lot more. I liked the idea of tracking my identity over time, but the app offers very little that a calendar and some basic honestly with myself don't already give me. Also, gender isn't a simple sliding scale and sexuality is much more complicated than "are you more into guys or girls?"

  4. AroAce Fox-avatar

    AroAce Fox

It's amazing if you fit into the binary perfectly. If you don't like anyone (Asexual/Aromantic), or if you like Genderqueer people (Skilosexual/Skiloromantic), or like ALL genders (Pansexual/Panromantic)you won't have an option in the sexuality category, and gender isn't just a stick between male and female, it's a large cluster of clouds. Doesn't covor a lot of things, but definatly good for someone in the gender binary, it's free so check it out for yourself! Seriously, try it!

The app itself is fine, I guess? The minimalist sliders are very pretty looking, but also feel a touch meaningless. If you're going to try and data-ize gender, just go all the way and show number of percentage or something. It also has a (as far as I can tell) completey unnecessary account feature. This could've been entirely local and nothing would've changed aside from the fact that development would be cheaper and there'd be less of a security risk.

Good interface and ui design, but the options could use expanding on, especially since there is a worrying lack of understanding for nonbinary identities. I hope the company expands it's options in the future to make a more robust daily questionnaire that will be able to help more people. I'm gender fluid and was hoping to use this app to track and chart how my gender/expression shifts from day to day. However the fact it averages instead of charting over time makes it u useable for my needs.

    ShadowX the vampire Official

Why have demigender positions on your spectrum visual if you don't have demigender labels on the app? This app is severely lacking in labels. This is no help to LGBT+ or allies. LGBT+ seek self discovery. Allies need education.

I gotta admit. I came in expecting more. It's so simple and not helpful at all, at least not for me. It feels like they take your "assessment"and just repeat what you put. One thing I don't like is that the slider has like fixed points. One in the middle, one halfway to each, and one at the edges. It would be nice if it moved more freely so that I don't put halfway feminine when I only feel a little feminine. Also, I don't enjoy having just feminine placed back in front of me when it was on half

This tracker is amazing. I don't always want to have to share how I feel with a person necessarily, but I DO want know how I've been feeling over time to see my own trends. Revelatory 🤯

  10. Allan W-avatar

What's the point? Three semiquantitative sliders that just literally average out 1-5 scores for three things. As someone exploring what being trans means to them I was hoping this would help me understand how my perceptions of myself were changing but it's too simplistic to really do much of anything at all.
