It allows your Android Device to act as target (1st Screen) for ChromeCast-enabled Applications (like YouTube, Google Music) Please note: This is a early Beta version. Some (if not all) things might not work correctly. Additionally casting Chrome Tabs, Netflix and Play Movies are not yet supported. Because of DRM, Play Movies and Netflix might actually never work. Works quite well, but control is on the slow side. Not sure if that's this app or the chromecast system generally. Could even be the fact my tab had to download the song I was casting on a slow connection. Hmm...what a useful review... :\

Good idea, free app, so I'm not complaining, but it doesn't work, at all, on any of 4 devices. On two old phones (droid and droid X) it crashes on startup. On new devices (Nexus 7 2nd gen and Nexus 5) it runs, is detected as a Chromecast, but client devices always throw a "Can't connect to your chromecast" when trying to connect or cast anything. To be useful, this would need to work on old hardware (if it takes a Nexus 5 to run on, it's ReallyExpensiveCast :)

Google has updated their Chromecast protocol and this now doesn't work as if should. I get the "cannot connect" message as well when in the Chromecast app, but I can stream music from Google Play Music to my phone connected to my stereo. Sometimes I have to disconnect and reconnect to get it to work right.

If Google TV Remote can work on my wireless and wired mix network, Cheapcast can work. Wireless devices can't see Cheapcast on GTV. Same devices can control GTV box via a wireless to wired network connection.

The only app I've been able to get to work is YouTube. Cheapcast is running on my Neo X7, of course Netflix doesn't work because pirates definitely want to rip material from a stream on Android, better put in DRM! Not sure why Pandora doesn't work, DRM? Plex->Plex is a better solution for casting server content. So, as near as I can tell Cheapcast is only useful for YouTube and content on your phone...

Installed on cheap tablet, which has JB 4.1. Chromecast remote device (android 4.1 device) sees my cheapcast device but not connecting, gives an error "Could not communicate with your Chromecast (%1$s)". Same error happens when i install cheapcast on SE ArcS.

Why is this app so large and why does it need permissions for taking pictures/video, recording audio and reading my location? Surely all of that isn't necessary to just playback media across a network connection?!?!

I'm not having total success with this app, it's a bit temperamental, yesterday it wouldn't even play from Google Music for 4 minutes without quitting, but today it's played for an hour without trouble and appears to be playing back from my Plex server quite well right now. I hope it stabilises as it could be extremely useful.

Installed CheapCast on my OUYA, then installed Chromecast on all my other devices. They could see my "OUYAcast", but when I tried to connect to it, I got the error "Could not communicate with your Chromecast (%1$s)". This happened with every device. I even tried it with CheapCast on my Nexus 4, but I got the same error. Everything is connected to a Belkin router running in 802.11n mode. Remote devices are running a range of firmwares, either on JB or KK.

The only thing so far that doesn't work for me is Hulu (ads play but video errors out). Everything else works great!
