Button Mapper makes it easy to remap custom actions to your volume buttons and other hardware buttons. Remap buttons to launch any app, shortcut or custom action with a single, double press or long press.

Button Mapper can remap most physical or capacitive keys and buttons, such as volume buttons, some assist buttons, and capacitive home, back and recent apps keys. Button Mapper can also remap buttons on many gamepads, remotes and other peripheral devices.

Root is not required for most actions, however some require an adb command from a connected PC if not rooted. Button Mapper does not work when the screen is off unless your device is rooted or you run an adb command.

A few examples of remapping you can do with Button Mapper:
-long press to toggle your flashlight
-remap your TV remote control
-press to broadcast custom intents, scripts or commands
-long press to open camera and take a photo
-double tap to launch your favorite app or shortcut
-double tap to open your notifications
-swap your back and recent apps keys (capacitive buttons only!)
-use your volume buttons to adjust screen brightness
-long press to toggle "do not disturb" mode
-and much more

Additional features unlocked in the pro version:
-Simulate keycodes (requires adb command or root)
-Swap volume keys on orientation change
-Default to ring volume on Pie or later
-Pocket detection
-Themes
-Change back and recents buttons
-Customization of haptic feedback (vibration) on button press and long press

Actions that can be mapped to buttons or keys:
-Launch any app or shortcut
-Disable the button
-Broadcast intents (PRO)
-Run scripts (PRO)
-Camera shutter
-Turn screen off
-Toggle flashlight
-Quick settings
-Show notifications
-Power dialog

-And many more...

Buttons supported:
-Physical home, back and recent appsmenu buttons
-Volume up
-Volume down
-Most camera buttons
-Many headset buttons
-Custom buttons: add other buttons (active, mute, etc) on your phone, headphones, gamepads, TV remote and other peripheral devices

Additional options:
-change the long press or double tap duration
-delay initial button press for better double tap operation
-disable Button Mapper while using specific apps
-plus many more customizations

Troubleshooting:
-Make sure Button Mapper accessibility service is enabled and allowed to run in the background
-Button Mapper does not work with onscreen buttons (such as soft keys or the navigation bar) or the power button.
-The options shown in the app depend on the buttons available on your phone. Not all phones have home, back and recents buttons!

This app uses Accessibility services. Accessibility is used to detect when the physical or capacitive buttons are pressed on your device so they can be remapped to custom actions to accommodate your needs. It is not used to see what you type. Button Mapper does not collect or share any of your personal information, it is safe and your privacy is respected.

This app uses the Device Administrator permission. (BIND_DEVICE_ADMIN)
This permission is used to lock the screen if the "Turn screen off" action is chosen. If you want to remove this permission, open Button Mapper, click on the menu (three dots in the upper right corner) and select "Uninstall"

I purchased this app and was very happy when I could create shortcuts to various apps on my Sony Bravia TV remote. Then I found that my volume button was limited to one notch per click, so it take very very long to raise or lower volume. I had to do a search to discover it was your program creating the problem, and when I turned off your app, the problem went away. I then tried assigning values to the volume button, no luck. I then came here and found this is a condition of the app. Maybe you should have said that up front. Its totally useless and I am out my money. Its not that much, but its the principle of being up front and honest. If a product has certain bugs, even if its Google's fault, you should tell people up front. I see others have this same problem and it makes your app useless to me. I now have to search for another app that doesn't screw up my volume button.

Regret buying the app. The volume button breaks when using the app. You cant hold the volume button to adjust the volume anymore. U have to do it in increments. Disabling BM while volume panel or system ui pen doesn't work either. Some dev commented its by design. To me that's absurd. If you customize volume and adjust what the vol button presses do then sure, it's by design. If I leave it at default it should work as though it was on default. Which doesn't happen. It's otherwise an useful app.

Looks good but I haven't been able to get split screen to work on my shield. I enabled freeform using ADB, and ticked the force resize activity in the developers options but no luck, when I press the key I remapped to split screen (netflix key) it does nothing. Remapping to other things does work so I guess the app is good. The goal is to force VLC to stay playing in the corner when playing video in another app, since PiP always stops.

Changed Netflix button on Sony remote to open Plex. On first click it disables volume button hold (need to keep clicking) and TV LED keeps blinking rapidly as if some button got stuck. To stop LED blinking I need to force stop the app... I have my LED set up to always be off and it blinks once only when I click any remote button

This simple app voids one of the biggest blunders of MiBox remote. They missed a few very important buttons on the remote control. But this app is a simple good alternative. I hate MiBox for not providing Mute and recent apps button on the remote control and there is no way to restart the TVBox from the remote. You have to go deep in Android settings. But this app saves a lot of headache. Bugs: After installing this app, the up and down arrow keys start missing some times. Then you have to press home key a few times and then the arrow keys work fine. Note: I have not mapped arrow keys to anything. Please fix this bug and I'll update the review to 5 stars.

Purchased this app to use on my Sony TV. Works well for most tasks (I especially like that I can issue HTTP GET/POST requests from button presses on my remote). Two issues I've noticed: 1. TV Button Mapper Pro doesn't recognize the Volume Up/Down buttons on my TV (X90CH). 2. Although there is support for GET and POST requests, there's no support for PUT requests. These are required for certain APIs, such as Philips Hue. I had to build an endpoint on my home server that relayed a POST to a PUT for this to work, which is annoying. If the developer could fix one or both of these things, I'd increase my rating.

Volume buttons do not work properly on Android TV. When enabled volume buttons will only work with single clicks. Holding down the volume buttons to quickly change volume is no longer possible. I have attempted manually mapping these functions and using the alternate handler options as well with no success. This bug has persisted between two different modern Android-TV devices from different manufacturers. However, everything else appears to be functional. (Ver: 1.51)

I installed the app to map the YouTube button on the Onn Android TV remote. The remote apparently follows Google Chromecast reference spec. So it should have worked. But most of the buttons are not recognized. The 4 app buttons, the mute button, the TV button. The buttons I don't want to remap like the DPad and back buttons are recognized. I did try enabling "Alternate button handling" in Troubleshooting. No luck.

I installed on my Bravia TV and all looked well. When trying to change the Disney button to HULU it looked good and said I need to upgrade to PRO, which I did. I then tried many times to make the change which appeared it was going to work, selecting the HULU shortcut though just launches HULU and does not program the key. I tried the alternative settings, I tried using the Yellow button, I tried the long press options. Nothing seems to work, I'm now disappointed I paid for the PRO version.

Didn't work for me, even after paying for the "pro" version. Was able to record the button press under the additional actions section, but it didn't intercept that button's function at any point. So assigning new actions to the single tap, double, or long press didn't actually work to either stop the button's function nor do the newly assigned functions, even after changing the alternate button handling option under troubleshooting.
