BusyBox is a software application that provides many standard Unix tools, much like the larger (but more capable) GNU Core Utilities. BusyBox is designed to be a small executable for use with the Linux kernel, which makes it ideal for use with embedded devices. It has been self-dubbed "The Swiss Army Knife of Embedded Linux".

Leave this installed if you always want to get the latest version of busybox!

Best Busybox app hands down! The pro version is definitely worth it. Even the self reinstall on reboot is very handy. It has not failed me yet. I am a little confused as if I have to use pro and the free version but I deleted the free version and just running the pro version. Overall 10/10 would highly recommend. Edit: on android 11 it doesn't automatically reinstall itself to /sbin so I have to manually reinstall on reboot/power off to /system/bin but it still works as intended

apk xda So if ur rooting a Samsung (modern + exynos), you want to install busybox module through Magisk. This busybox app, free and paid, is a waste, because it does not cooperate well with magisk and will probably leave you reflashing your phone again. Save urself the time, if Magisk doesnt have the download menu for busybox module, you messed up, start over.

  3. Zomby7e-avatar

zip Permission problem, I have installed this, but only super user can use busybox. The busybox of the magisk module is better.

mpt i remember using the free version a lot on my old Xperia Play. however i brought the pro version thinking i would need it in android 9 magisk and no, magisk has it's own busy box module. well, wasn't completely wasted money, since i did used (a lot) back in the day, so i finally paid up.

apk bug: upon launching app and pressing the Install button, it asks if i want to enable auto-reinstall-on-boot. if i select no, the app does nothing at all and the install button seems broken. upon relaunching the app and pressing install, if i select yes then it installs just fine and i have to turn off the auto-reinstall-on-boot feature.

  6. Christopher Lewis-avatar

apk no root Doesn't install on boot on Android 11 (even though the notification shows success it shows not installed if you open the app). I was hoping for the best, since the new partition structure was known before the last update. Yet another device switched to the Magisk module that works fine on 11.

mod apk Still using this app since my Nexus5 (kk 4.4.4). Many years later, and many many Google/LG/OnePlus/Motorola phones later, there is still no better implementation of BusyBox for Android out there. No issues to date and that says much about the app.

Unbelievable this is still updated regularly after all these years, great work! All those people giving bad reviews claiming this doesn't work have to understand the install method will vary from phone to phone - some newer phones especially don't seem to allow for installation to the /xbin folder, meaning you'll have to install to /sbin or /bin after every reboot. This is the way android is built now and no fault of the Busybox developer, so what worked on your old phone may not work now. Sheesh, you'd think people rooting their phones would put a little effort into understanding the process before down voting a fantastic developer....

  69. Matthew Nickl-avatar

    Matthew Nickl

If you've ever used the terminal in Linux, BusyBox gives you that similar function by allowing your phone to do or take similar commands. Windows and Command Prompt? Same idea. Most cell phones are just that, a phone. They don't need a terminal that can take commands or a command prompt that can take commands. You might not need it, but the guy who gave you the custom Rom or root method to get you where you are now needed you to have it to make your root method or custom Rom flash even possible.

I have no idea why I "need" this in my rooted custom ROM device, but here it is. No clear idea what it actually does. I actually had it removed from one device and everything worked normally and no other app complained about the lack of it. I've never actually had to open it, other than to perform the cumbersome update process, which is different from other apps. Thankfully it is not updated often.

Sorry - only one star left - but installer is broken for latest SuperSU versions on Android 7.x/EMUI5.x. Rooting works fine and SuperSU recognizes BusyBox Pro but installation of binary and links fails. BusyBox Pro even suggests to install "systemless" (as in my case) so it sees SuperSU and v.v.. Modifying system through i.e. ES-Explorer works fine (adding files and directories, deleting, editing).

No longer actually works. Doesn't even show up in SuperSu like your other apps that require root. That of course means that apps that need BusyBox like Viper4Andriod will not work. Contacted the developer detailing the issue and got no response. UPDATE: After hours and hours of troubleshooting I've found the problem. It turns out that BusyBox is NOT compatible with some versions of SuperSu. SuperSu won't even see it. Some of those versions are 2.79 and 2.56. Download the 2.46 SuperSu zip and flash and apps like Viper4Android will come right up. There's your fix right there for all you thousands of folks having trouble downloading the Viper4Android driver. Don't know if you still need Selinux Permissive but I left it on anyway. Got no help whatsoever from the Dev and that is why I'm leaving it 1 star.

BusyBox is one of the original Android root applications. It has always worked well, been well thought out, and been an essential part of any Android rom. Great job Stephen for helping to bring this to Android and for helping to keep it updated!

Doesn't work anymore. Magisk rooted, tried all locations in Android N. The other busybox app released by someone else works though.
